Caerphilly Castle and the Beeching cuts



Hi MelonLost

You may remember our paths recently crossed at the Beeching cuts. We all make mistakes sometimes.

A few weeks ago my middle-aged children took me to visit the castle at Caerphilly. I have fond memories of the Caerphilly Castle engine from the late 1950s and early 1960s. I think the last time I saw the locomotive was in the mid-to-late-sixties at Stratford MPD, bright and shiny in its own separate shed, perhaps waiting to be moved to new accommodation somewhere. I have just a feeling in my bones that it was no surprise to see the engine there: possibly I had read something in ''Modern Railways'' or ''Railway World''. If you can find a reliable source, it might make a snippet for the ''GWR 4073 Class 4073 Caerphilly Castle'' article.
