Are you still on here?
Hi Neonorage, long time no see. How have you been? As you said to me nearly a year ago, {{tq|: Wikipedia will ''always'' need improvement and protection. Please do not stay away forever. Even if you do not edit, continue to follow article development. I do. I also compare the working environment here to that of other organizations I've known.}} {{tq|If nothing else, continue to ''use'' Wikipedia. I will be very disappointed if I do not see you contributing again.}} Wikieditor662 (talk) 22:17, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
:Still here. Thank you very much for the contact. I<nowiki>'m very pleased to see you contributing ''and''</nowiki> being recognized & appreciated. Emma Thompson
Hi, I think you may have misunderstood my addition to the Emma Thompson article. The relevant part of the source is not that Trump asked her out. It's the part that says "Thompson had just finalized her divorce" and that the year is l997. She has only been divorced once, and it's clear that it's Kenneth Branagh. It would be incorrect to say that their divorce happened in 1995. There's other articles too that back up this story, though they seem to omit the 1997 date and I want to avoid original research. ~2026-14479-23 ↗ (talk) 16:43, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
:Thank you for continuing the discussion. In my opinion, there are two points where you and I may agree or disagree. It should not be difficult to resolve. Finding a reliable source for an explicit statement of the date (the year alone should be sufficient). However, using a chain of logic to ''infer'' a date tends to run afoul of WP:NOR ↗ ({{tq|All material in Wikipedia must be attributable to a reliable, published source. Articles must not contain any new analysis or synthesis of published material that reaches or implies a conclusion not clearly stated by the sources themselves..}}) and {{tq|A source "directly supports" a given piece of material if the information is present explicitly in the source so that using this source to support the material is not a violation of this policy against original research.) Finding a usable source ought to be easy. The other point is that the Trump requesting a ''date'' seems out of place in a ''section'' titled '''Personal relationships'''.
:Finding a suitable WP:RS ↗ solves both 'objections'.
:
:I will find a suitable source and post below. Or you can. If I find a source you are welcome to use it. I will try to find one you can access. (By the way, I did not come to the article at random—the article is under WP:PC ↗ protection and changes made by editors without ''auto-confirmed'' status must be reviewed before going live.) — <span style="color:orange">'''N'''</span>'''eonorange''' (talk to Phil) (he, they) 05:39, 9 March 2026 (UTC) —

::Yes, I agree that Branagh and Thompson split/separated in 1995. But splitting is not the same as finalizing a divorce. For another example, look at the Megan Fox article. She separated from her husband Brian Austin Green for the final time in May 2020. Their divorce was finalized in October 2021. The infobox makes it clear that 2021 is the date their marriage is over, not 2020. Just like Thompson may have separated in 1995, but her divorce was only made official in 1997 as she was filming Primary Colors. ~2026-14479-23 ↗ (talk) 23:12, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
:::Yes, I agree. I will look further this week. I am trying ChatGPT 5.4 as a method to find sources for details like this one. Haven't decided whether it is worth the effort. I have to work up a good prompt with decent restrictions. ChatGPT 5.4 is much better for searching the ''New York Times'' than the ''Times'' own search engine which can only search for exact matches of a word or phrase. Good luck. — <span style="color:orange">'''N'''</span>'''eonorange''' (talk to Phil) (he, they) 13:41, 10 March 2026 (UTC) —
::::I'm not sure there's an article mentioning the year Thompson's divorce was finalized before she gave that Trump anecdote last year. I've searched through the NYT. Not every detail of a celebrity's marriage is made public. For example, Zendaya and Tom Holland apparently married secretly without the press knowing. Similarly, Thompson and Branagh had no reason to publicly announce their divorce is concluded at the time. I think the CBS source is the best because it includes that 1997 date. There are articles from People, The Telegraph, and Vanity Fair about Thompson's anecdote that name Branagh as the person she just divorced, but they omit the 1997 date that the CBS article includes. ~2026-14479-23 ↗ (talk) 20:44, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
:::::There very may not be such an article. I really don't have any further ideas. From reading a few interviews, I have a very strong impression that Thompson has closed that chapter and moved on. You could try the WP:TEAHOUSE ↗, place <nowiki>{{Help Me}}</nowiki> on your talk page, or ask an editor who works on Wikipedia articles about, well, actors. I'll look for a book that may have that detail. Maybe we'll both learn something. At this point, another task rather than getting bogged down. A suggestion; try registering an account; I think that might help communications. The hardest part for me to begin here was choosing a user name, so I just picked a neutral name, Neonorange. Having a user name helps others see you as a colleague and makes it easier for ''you'' to find your comments in a talk page, especially if you a a bit of color: see WP:Username ↗ (for function) and WP:Signature ↗ (for color...). — <span style="color:orange">'''N'''</span>'''eonorange''' (talk to Phil) (he, they) 03:44, 12 March 2026 (UTC) —
::::::I talked to Teahouse and they decided that my original edit to the Thompson article was acceptable. I hope this matter is concluded, unless someone comes across a better source in the future. And thank you for the advice about registering an account, but I really don't do a lot of editing of Wikipedia, mostly just a few corrections here and there. I think this is the first time I've had a conversation with someone on here after years. Thank you again for your help. ~2026-14479-23 ↗ (talk) 20:24, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
