Just curious, do you have a source for the township being created in 1836? You added this claim to the article without a source in 2019 ↗ and as someone trying to improve the article, a source that has this info would be pretty useful. New Flint State Park deletion

I'd like to offer a contrasting viewpoint on the inclusion of the "New Flint State Park" on the List of Michigan state parks ↗ page. It seems a bit overly nit-picky to remove it when there are other less-developed parks included on the list and farther behind in their master planning, Gete Mino Mshkiigan State Park ↗ being an example. Additionally, the Douglass Houghton Falls Scenic Site ↗ and Saginaw River Headwaters Recreation Area are also included, with the former not yet open to visitation (construction to conclude next year, same as the Flint SP) and the latter being a "technically open" county-managed like the Flint unit. Since much of the Flint park is already open to recreation and it's somewhat unique disposition of being managed by Genesee County Parks, it makes little sense to not include it. Even if it were a more "traditional" state park unit having a definite "opening date," one may consider anything in the ''process'' of becoming a state park as being "established." A DNR press release stating this new park has been "officially established" may never be forthcoming, as the DNR won't necessarily know to use that specific terminology to allow the site to be re-added to a Wikipedia list. Some parks take years—even decades—before they are anything more than an undeveloped plot of land open to certain types of passive recreation (Coldwater Lake State Park ↗, I'm looking at you), whereas portions of this new Flint park are already open for use with remaining construction activities in certain areas wrapping up within the next year. It's a real, usable, visitable park '''today'''.

Taking in account the purpose of Wikipedia to be an accurate source of information and education, removing a state park which has been announced, on which remaining construction will soon be complete, and which is already partially open to visitation doesn't seem helpful. Is it the lack of an officially announced name for the park that prompted its removal? I don't believe that's necessarily a determining factor for inclusion or not. To think there's a "light-switch moment" where a state park goes from being non-existent to existing, especially considering the nature and make-up of this particular unit, seems a bit unreasonable. I note a similar park (Holzhueter Farm Conservation Park) is included on the Wisconsin list, although I haven't checked many of the other states' lists.

I hope you can see my point-of-view on this and we can restore this park to the listing of current, future and former Michigan State Park units soon. I'm more than willing to entertain other opinions on the matter, though, so let me know if you'd like to continue the discussion. Thanks. 00:36, 5 August 2025 (UTC) CBessert (talk) 00:36, 5 August 2025 (UTC)

:*If I recall, the inclusion of the New Flint State Park in the List of Michigan state parks ↗ page somewhat caught my eye because it had no link in an otherwise complete table. I don't normally partake in substantial editing of state park articles, other than adding photos and basic information where needed, but it is high on my list of Michigan topics. After the fact, perhaps I was wrong in removing the New Flint State Park. Maybe I just figured if it was important enough for inclusion, the article would have been created already, even though it isn't technically an inaugurated state park (but there are certainly many non-state park articles). There are a good amount of news sources and state links discussing the park, so I would definitely support the creation of the New Flint State Park and its inclusion in the Michigan state parks article with a ''pending'', ''proposed'', or ''tentative [date]'' for its 2026 establishment, according to ABC12 News ↗. You're right in saying that it shouldn't depend on a "light-switch moment" where the park can't be included on Wikipedia until there is an official ribbon-cutting ceremony. I was actually unaware of Gete Mino Mshkiigan State Park ↗ until I saw it in the state parks template, even though I've been through the Topinabee area many times. So, now I want to check it out next time. With New Flint State Park as an urban park similar to Milliken ↗, I'm sure there will be many local news sources and updates available for the park; the name will surely be changed to something more fitting once the park is established. But if it is being referred as New Flint State Park during the developmental stage, that name can certainly be used and linked throughout associated articles and templates. If so, the mention of New Flint State Park in the main state park article can probably be moved from its original listing in the "Other sites" table to the main "Michigan state parks" table with the rest of the established parks and "Remarks" made on its current status. Next time I'm in the Flint area, I will definitely check it out. —Notorious4life (talk) 23:55, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Michigan historical markers

Hi,

I've proposed deletion on several of your images of Michigan historical markers. Although you have released your photos under a free license, the historical markers themselves carry their own copyright. Unlike the US Federal government, the works of government of Michigan are not automatically public domain, and historical markers are not covered by freedom of panorama in the US. The files are:

If you disagree with me on these deletions, you can remove the proposed deletion tagging, but there are other deletion processes that would still apply like FFD ↗. -- Whpq (talk) 17:52, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
:I would just like to note that the text of the markers ''may'' be in the public domain, {{u| Whpq}}. If an individual marker was erected before changes to copyright law that took effect in in 1978 or 1989, then its text may have entered the public domain at the time of erection. Before 1978, a marker would have needed a copyright notice to receive the protections. Up to March 1989, the creator would have an opportunity to register a work for protection after the fact. After March 1989, copyright is automatic, even without a notice or registration.
:The TL;DR is that if it can be shown that a specific historical marker is old enough and didn't comply with the formalities, then that marker is in the public domain. This is an inquiry that needs to be done on a case-by-case basis. Many of these markers here have dates listed that are after 1989, so they are protected, but the Harrison marker is from 1988, thus its text is in the public domain unless the state filed for a copyright registration. A few have no dates, so we need to do further research. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 18:57, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
::{{replyto|Imzadi1979}} Fair enough. Any that are questionable can be challenged by removing the PROD for further investigation. -- Whpq (talk) 19:11, 18 January 2026 (UTC)

Map of municipalities in Genesee county is inaccurate.

Hello, The map you have here is inaccurate. The areas 'Lake Fenton' and 'Beecher' are school districts and not municipalities per se. I can provide an accurate map. Kkoleda (talk) 14:37, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Agreed these are "census Defined Places" however, they are not 'Municipalities" as the map is labeled.

"Is a Census Designated Place a Town? Understanding CDPs and Municipal Status
Legal Guide Team
Feb 22, 2026

A Census Designated Place (CDP) is a term used by the U.S. Census Bureau to describe a concentration of population that resembles a town or city but lacks its own government. This article clarifies whether a CDP is a town, how CDPs are defined, and what that means for residents. It also explains how CDPs differ from incorporated municipalities, the kinds of services typically provided, and what it takes for a CDP to become an incorporated town or city, if at all."

:*I'm aware. Simple solution is to reword the caption for the map, which has now been completed for all applicable counties. —Notorious4life (talk) 00:47, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
