Women in Red
Hi there, Olugold, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to have another librarian as a member of the project. I see you have some experience in editing but have not yet created any biographies of women. When you decide to do so, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules ↗. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:44, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Blocked users
{{Admin help|answered=yes}}
Hi! An Edit-a-thon event was organised under the IWUG ↗, we properly guided new editors to register on Meta but after a while some users were blocked for no reason. These users couldn't participate during the event because they could not log into the dashboard ↗
These users are Grace Nwosu ↗, Onkovictor ↗, Omalichababy ↗, Bhec Khey ↗, Ndubueze Jenny ↗, estheribeh97 ↗.
Can anything be done? Thank you. Olugold (talk) 05:12, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
: Hello, Olugold. None of the usernames that you have listed exists on English Wikipedia apart from Omalichababy, and that one isn't directly blocked. I don't know why creating a meta account hasn't automatically resulted in an English Wikipedia account being created too. I'll leave this help request open in case some administrator who knows more about this kind of thing can help. You may also be able to get help by asking at meta.
: As for Omalichababy, which does exist on en Wikipedia, maybe there's an IP block or an autoblock causing problems, though it seems unlikely if you can edit from the same IP address. Can you post a copy of the exact message that the users get, telling them that they can't edit? JBW (talk) 22:34, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
::Thank you JBW. I'll find out on Meta as you suggested because this kind of block reoccurs each we have an event.
::Below are some of the messages
::"Account creation error.
::You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia. Editing from your IP address (129.205.124.97) has been blocked (disabled) on all Wikimedia wikis until 05:02, 15 March 2022 by Tks4Fishe (meta.wikimedia.org) for the following reason: Open proxy: Visit the help page if you are affected This block began on 04:02, 16 February 2022 Your current IP address is 129.205.124.97. Please include all..."
::"You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia due to a block affecting this IP address. This does not affect your ability to read Wikipedia pages. Most people who see this message have done nothing wrong. Some kinds of blocks restrict editing from specific service providers or..." Olugold (talk) 10:48, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
:JBW I see that one of the users Onkovictor has an active userpage. Thank you! Olugold (talk) 10:54, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
:: That's a user page on meta, which is automatically displayed on Wikipedia if there isn't a separate user page on Wikipedia.
:: If the block applies to all Wikimedia wikis then it certainly needs to be dealt with on meta.
:: Since this help request has now been open for over 32 hours and nobody else has commented, it seems unlikely that anyone will, so I'm closing the request. JBW (talk) 13:39, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
:: One more thought. It seems obvious that you must be in Africa. I don't know much about this, but I believe that many African ISPs connect users through shared IP addresses, which are essentially a kind of proxies, and Wikimedia projects often block them as open proxies. I hope you can find someone on meta who knows more about that kind of issue. JBW (talk) 13:46, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
:::Thank you for replying swiftly Olugold (talk) 15:04, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

After reviewing your request for the "<samp>eventcoordinator</samp>" permission ↗, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:
- The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
- The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "<samp>confirmed</samp> ↗" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
- The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
- Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.
:Thank you so much {{ping|Femke}} I will definitely put this right into good use and will always ask for help when the need arises. Olugold (talk) 17:22, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Your tip has been scheduled!
Congratulations.
And thank you for helping the Wikipedia community by creating a new tip for Wikipedia's tip of the day feature.
Wow, I had no idea that the newcomer home page even existed.
Your tip is scheduled to go live on February 23rd ↗ this year, and every year. It will automatically appear on Wikipedia's main Help Page, on the Community Portal, and everywhere else users have placed the totd templates (usually on their user page or user talk page).
To see the whole schedule of tips, which we call the "yearless year tip collection", it's on the Tip of the day project page ↗
And, if you get any more bright ideas for tips. Please...
Write them all!
Thank you.
Sincerely, <span class="nowrap"> — ''The Transhumanist'' </span> 19:53, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
:Thank you so much. I'm glad the tip helped and will go live finally. As a newbie, mentorship helped me a great deal. Olugold (talk) 13:58, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
Out of curiosity...
What are your favorite subject areas? <span class="nowrap"> — ''The Transhumanist'' </span> 20:24, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
:Gender gap, climate change, environmental health, language sustainability, advocacy/outreach, and librarianship. Olugold (talk) 07:59, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
:: Quite eclectic. Nice. I'm blown away that we don't have an outline on climate change, because that subject is huge and of critical importance. Out of all those subjects, only one has an outline, and even that isn't a perfect match:
::* Outline of library and information science ↗
:: Outlines map out a subject's coverage on Wikipedia, and provide a profile on the subject itself (by presenting its overall structure, usually on a single page).
:: It's fascinating to see how well Wikipedia's navigation systems support an individual's interests. Besides outlines, there are also indexes, glossaries, navigation sidebars, navigation footers, lists, categories, and portals. While climate change doesn't have an outline, it does have an index ↗, glossary ↗, navigation footer ↗, a category tree ↗, a portal ↗, and several lists.
:: Were you aware that climate change is one of the 3 main existential risks tracked by the members of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists ↗, who maintain the Doomsday Clock ↗? (The other 2 are nuclear war and artificial intelligence).
:: As climate change is a defining challenge of modern times, and Wikipedia has become one of the most widely available general knowledge sources on the planet, that puts Wikipedia editors on the front lines of the climate change problem, in a position to educate the world's population about this critical subject.
:: I'm highly impressed that you picked climate change and environmental health as among your favorites.
:: Regards, <span class="nowrap"> — ''The Transhumanist'' </span> 03:12, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
:::Thank you for this comprehensive information. I never knew there are outlines on Wikipedia. Climate change and environmental health are critical subjects that affects everyone, it will be a good thing if everyone does one thing or the other to mitigate the effect.-- Olugold (talk) 12:13, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!
<section begin="message"/>
Hello,
I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily.
With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:
- Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
- Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
- Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List ↗
Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents ↗
Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:
- The Collaboration List ↗ can now be transcluded ↗, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding <nowiki>{{Special:AllEvents}}</nowiki>. Learn more ↗.
- Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration.For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces ↗
If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons ↗.
We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Firewood in Nigeria
I was editing the article ↗ you created and saw that many references used didn't support the content as it was vague or out of context. Also the last section reads as "Outline-like conclusions about challenges and future prospects" from WP:AISIGNS ↗. The section names were very long which is usually found in AI generated articles. Also see Talk:Firewood_in_Nigeria#AI_generated_tag ↗
Please make sure that the article doesn't have any AI generated content as its not allowed here WP:NOLLM ↗ and only reliable sources are used. WP:RS ↗ Sddarealone (talk) 12:04, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hi @Sddarealone!
:I have removed the headings you think are AI generated because they have long titles. If you have suggestions for shorter titles that you think are suitable please go ahead and insert them.
:I am still confused on why you tagged the talk ↗. I thought I deleted the sections added by the user, or were they reverted? Olugold (talk) 16:03, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
::<small>Long reply incoming.</small> I see most of the citation needed tags not met with WP:RS ↗ in the Firewood_in_Nigeria#Use of fuel wood ↗ section. Here are my observations below.
::In the first paragraph, First source is from a blog post ↗ which also uses content from Wikipedia ↗. {{tq|According to Wikipedia,there are the traditional made and the modern factory made types}}. Second one is from guardian.ng that doesn't directly support the mentioned applications of split logs and small twigs, namely fuel and industrial processes. Only this sentence talks about fuel wood "{{tq|Many families still depend on firewood}}" which again looks out of context.
::Coming to second para, the journal source doesn't talk about capital investment, cutting tools or fuelwood use in farming. For burning method, this quote is good but looks haphazardly put. "{{tq|Perhaps the best way to do this is simply to dry or season wood before burning. When burned, moist wood produces less-useful heat and more smoke.}}". It needs some rework before using the source as a reference.
::Next to the applications of firewood in bullet points,
::* '''Cooking''' - Sources don't directly support the point that firewood/fuelwood also is used in commercial outlets across Nigeria. Also need a quote to support "It is used in traditional stoves or open fires to prepare meals and heat food".
::* '''Heating''' all check
::* '''Small scale industries and artisanal activities''' - pottery check, baking and food processing check, nomad4now source is a wordpress website (blacksmithing). See WP:WORDPRESS ↗. Last sentence check.
::* '''Charcoal production''' - fao.org source doesn't talk about charcoal production in Nigeria, second source check, third source only talks about the effects of charcoal use on environment in Nigeria.
::* '''Campfire, cultural and religious practices''' - First source nowhere mentions wood or fire wood use in these practices. Second source is a blog post which again is unreliable in WP.
::For the talk page, I caught the refs used in the additions by Lillianneche in this section ↗ (see diff ↗) which weren't removed by any editors since it was added in 2023. As the editor clearly used LLMs so the sources used in that section can be unreliable, please check.
::These are just the superficial findings that I'm doing visually so there can be formatting errors in source code that needs to be checked. I'm restoring the maintenance tags and few citation needed tags until the above issues are fixed. Also if possible, do a thorough read and copyedit of the other sections like I did for the fuel wood one. Good luck. Sddarealone (talk) 19:26, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
:::I added the tags wherever I think a citation would be necessary. Also for journal and book citations, please use page numbers as pp.202-203 or pp.202 (for single page) or a quote to show where did you take the reference for the content from.
:::For e.g., {{tq|In colder regions or during colder seasons, fuel wood is used for heating purposes. It provides warmth in homes and can be used in fireplaces ↗ or traditional heating devices.}}<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Okonkwo |first=Emeka E. |last2=Ukaegbu |first2=Maureen O. |last3=Eyisi |first3=Afamefuna P. |date=2016-04-01 |quote="In most homes in Anaocha, firewood performs several functions and purposes such as cooking, frying, roasting of food stuffs, lighting, and warming of homes" |title=A Documentation of Some Traditional Aspects of Wood Consumption in Anaocha, Nigeria |journal=Sage Open |language=EN |volume=6 |issue=2 |article-number=2158244016649417 |doi=10.1177/2158244016649417 |issn=2158-2440}}</ref> Sddarealone (talk) 19:59, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
::::@Sddarealone kindly go ahead and remove remove every info you think is/are not okay. For the edits by the other user that you are still seeing, kindly go ahead and remove it. Thank you Olugold (talk) 23:42, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
:::The third source does not only talk about effect of charcoal production but also talks about use of firewood and charcoal.
:::..."In Plateau State, there is a high rate of charcoal and firewood usage and the business thrives very well. There is even a charcoal market in Jos the state capital, where people come from many parts of the state and even beyond to buy charcoal"...
:::Initially, the title of the article was, ''Utilization of firewood in Nigeria''... Olugold (talk) 00:05, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::@Sddarealone I have removed the use of firewood section you think is AI-generated.
:::I understand that some references are not reliable due to Wikipedia's referencing policies, especially primary sources...
:::Personally, in Nigeria,
:::*I have used firewood or fuel wood to '''cook''' while in the city and the village. I have also used '''charcoal produced''' while cooking with firewood to '''heat-up''' the room, roast corn/maize, smoke meat or fish, etc during large gatherings and parties firewood is used for cooking, large pots are placed on local firewood stands.
:::*I have also seen '''local small scale industries''' use firewood to heat up the local oven for bakery and other artisanal activities.
:::* '''''Ikpa nkụ''''' is an Igbo word that means scouting for firewood within the community and nearby bushes especially dry/dead branches, or discarded planks and bamboo from construction sites. When I was living in Maiduguri ↗, a city and state capital of Borno State ↗, I did ''ikpa nkụ'' as a child because I enjoyed scouting. My family had an indoor kitchen for cooking with kerosene stove, gas cookers, and electricity; and an open air kitchen for cooking with firewood and charcoal.
:::*During festival periods like new year eve, some communities have '''bornfire gatherings'''. Additionally, during my NYSC ↗, we had bornfire or '''campfire night''', firewoods were stacked properly and lighted for fire night.
:::I understand that I can't use my personal experience to write a Wikipedia article and sources are needed to back every claim, but the section is not AI-generated.
:::The sustainable future section as you stated earlier is not also AI generated. Most times, sustainability is about what we do now to have a better future... I used firewood as a child but because of environmental sustainability I am using better cooking options. The explanation above is my experience and not AI generated Olugold (talk) 01:39, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::I didn't copy and paste from claims from these sources, and I also did not quote them verbatim. So you might not see the exact words from the article in these sources Olugold (talk) 02:52, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::In the past, I have also been accused of paid editing because an editor simply thought I was paid. I have also been accused of knowing the subject I wrote about because of the style of writing. I have also been accused of writing stupidly because I used words like 'to further her education'..., ''Due to her love for acting''... I also understand that these are perceptions, and not facts.
For example, from the articles you created, Anhysteresis ↗, some headings and content look like AI formated because you think long titles are possibly AI-generated.
:::*'''Etymology and history''' to me looks like an AI generated title but it might not be true. Etymology means history of a subject. So it's just like saying History and history, which is common in AI generated content
:::Also, in Algebraic attack ↗ and Mary Margaret Revell ↗, the articles you created, I think the heading looks like AI generated, since AI generated content usually have long titles. Some paragraphs too.
- '''History of algorithms and preventive techniques'''
:::Kindly note that I have removed the tag. If there are sections you think are AI generated or formatted based on your judgement, please go ahead to remove them. Thanks you.
:::: @Olugold That was an unnecessary and a lengthy rebuttal which didn't clear the issues I had raised in the article ↗ and you made some WP:POINTY ↗ comments going as far as my edits on the articles I created here. If you really think the section names the articles I created are AI generated then some editor would have pointed out that already but there was no such objection raised in any of those articles you mentioned. <small> Also Etymology is the study of words (meaning of the word anhysteresis) and history is the series of the events connected with the subject (history of the process called anhysteresis) so I stand correct there also.</small>
:::: Now, nowhere in my analysis had I denied fire or fuel wood use in Nigeria. If you noticed, I kept '''nine references''' that you added in your last edit after my first reply. For other references, I only asked you to provide better sources for supporting the content as some of them are from blog posts WP:BLOG ↗ e.g., source ↗ and some content are not directly supported by journals. e.g., no mention of ring girdling in this source ↗.
:::: Also I kept the maintenance templates as the issues still persisted. The AI generated tags were added not because of copy-paste but issues such as citation and formatting (given very clearly). I had to clear some formatting in source code as there is no proper indentation in the sections. I asked you in WP:AGF ↗ to read the other sections as the information provided could be WP:OR ↗, something which is actually not allowed here.
:::: I'm restoring the content you blanked without explaining in edit summaries and keeping the maintenance tags until the issues are fixed. I hope you take my comments kindly as believe me I'm wanting to improve your article and not remove it. Regards, Sddarealone (talk ↗) 04:34, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Tagging @Gurkubondinn, @ToBeFree, @Zackmann08 for reviewing the points made above regarding the AI cleanup. Sddarealone (talk) 04:55, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Hi, I'd need quick context for my ping. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 14:25, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::It was a dispute on ai-generated content and unreliable sources in Firewood in Nigeria ↗ that has since been resolved by a concession. Olugold deleted the disputed section from the article including the section's references. Sddarealone (talk) 15:59, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Thanks! I currently can't dive into this with any helpful level of detail. If I was involved and there's a question about my actions, that would of course be different. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 00:32, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
::::@Sddarealone the examples I cited are instances of perception which might not be true. I removed the section as a way of resolving the issue. There's no need reverting the edits since the section has been removed. The editors you tagged can see or review these content whether removed or not via the view history and diff. Even if it is removed on the article, it's still visible via the article's history. Thanks for all you do. Olugold (talk) 05:10, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Thank you for your kind understanding and now I understood the reason for blanking the section but the article still needs to be reviewed for any formatting or citation issues which might be left in the current revision. Happy editing. Sddarealone (talk) 05:53, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

Invitation to assist in evaluating an Afc approved Igbo related article being disputed by user Dolpina
Hi, please do you mind having a look at an Igbo related Afc approved article discussing Igbo regalia and Headdresses currently being disputed and disrupted by a user Dolpina. I've been trying to invite some independent reviewers but they said the topic is outside their scope. Found you via your contributions on Igbo related articles. Please check here Talk:Igbo regalia and headdresses ↗ Igbo regalia and headdresses ↗. I'm about to open a content dispute but the instruction requires independent intervention in the talk page as a preliminary step if I'm not mistaken. Dreune (talk) 13:34, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hi @Dreune! I have gone through the article's talk and it's really a voluminous dispute. Can you summarize what the dispute is about abd how you want me to come in?
:Yes, ''Ichafu isi'' is an Igbo word for headtie, then there are ''nnukwu ichafu isi'' and the normal ones... Olugold (talk) 02:07, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
