I am old enough to have read the book in the 1990s and to have watch the BBC-series (and buy the companion) in 1999/2000, most Wikipedia-visitors will be too young for that.

Hi, Qwerfjkl. You are cordially invited to the brand new Wikipedia:Mentorship noticeboard ↗. I get the impression sometimes that we mentors are each toiling in our own cubbyhole or hamster wheel, quietly answering mentee questions with little to no interaction with other mentors. Question from Muffinbutt1985 (06:31, 10 July 2026)
So on this page it says there is a book about the guy slated for publication. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Dorsey_Swann Well, the citation is for an article from 2018 about the pending publication but it looks like for whatever reason the book never got published; I cannot find it listed on Amazon etc and it’s been sic years. (Seems a shame as this was an interesting fellow who definitely deserves a book about him. I was going to add the book to my to read list.)
I would like to edit the entry to explain the book didn’t get published, but I don’t know how to cite that; it’s not like they put out a statement saying “we decided not to publish after all”. There were press releases about publication and then just… no book. --Muffinbutt1985 (talk) 06:31, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:Muffinbutt1985, do you mean "The House of Swann: Where Slaves Became Queens"? If so, it appears to be on Amazon ↗, albeit unavailable to purchase.<span id="Qwerfjkl:1783677894127:User_talkFTTCLNQwerfjkl" class="FTTCmt"> — <span style="background:#1d9ffc; color:white; padding:5px; box-shadow:darkgray 2px 2px 2px;">Qwerfjkl</span><span style="background:#79c0f2;color:white; padding:2px; box-shadow:darkgray 2px 2px 2px;">talk</span> 10:04, 10 July 2026 (UTC)</span>
::It’s not available for purchase ANYWHERE. It is registered with several major bookstores but not a single one has a single copy in stock, because the publisher never actually put the book out. There isn’t even a photo of the book cover in any of the bookstore listings. That’s what I meant by “can’t find it.”
::I’ve seen this happen before, bookstore and even library catalog listings for books that don’t exist. Publishers get bookstore catalog listings for books in advance of publication. This book has not been published. If it had been, there would at least be cover art for it. Muffinbutt1985 (talk) 10:10, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Muffinbutt1985, if all we have is speculation, then there's nothing to be done, I'm afraid.<span id="Qwerfjkl:1783689883634:User_talkFTTCLNQwerfjkl" class="FTTCmt"> — <span style="background:#1d9ffc; color:white; padding:5px; box-shadow:darkgray 2px 2px 2px;">Qwerfjkl</span><span style="background:#79c0f2;color:white; padding:2px; box-shadow:darkgray 2px 2px 2px;">talk</span> 13:24, 10 July 2026 (UTC)</span>
::::I’m going to put something on the talk page about it because I am extremely sure the book doesn’t exist. I did some more “original research” and the book is not mentioned on the author’s Instagram either. Has a “my writings” part on his Instagram with screenshots of articles about Swann, but no book. The book never came out. Muffinbutt1985 (talk) 16:50, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
