Just a note to let you know that your first edit to :American Indian Wars ↗ was reverted because you changed the name of the image file <nowiki>:File:Apache chieff Geronimo (right) and his warriors in 1886.jpg ↗</nowiki>, breaking the link to the file and causing the image to not display. Introduction to contentious topics

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to '''post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people''', a topic designated as '''''contentious ↗'''''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee ↗. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators ↗ have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics ''procedures'', you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard ↗ or you may learn more about this contentious topic here ↗. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template.
}} voorts (talk/contributions ↗) 16:05, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

Revert

Greetings,

You recently ↗ reverted my edit ↗, saying that {{xt|"The Secretary of War" is still currently the official title under the Trump administration, and the reasons of those RS insisting otherwise is blatantly apparent. To me, it's needlessly petty and spiteful, and why not use the new official title until the next administration inevitably changes it back to the old one?}}. However, current consensus ↗ is that the term "Secretary of Defense" should continue to be used so long as most reliable sources ↗ use it (see Talk:United_States_Department_of_Defense ↗ and Talk:United_States_Department_of_Defense/Archive 1 ↗). Since Wikipedia is based on reliable sources, we must use terminology based on that of those sources, not on our own personal opinions. Regards, Andumé (talk) 03:44, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

:I know the Trump administration is extremely controversial and polarizing, but shouldn't it be considered a "authoritative source" in of itself especially regarding their own policy making decisions? Many of those "reliable sources" (such as AP, Washington Post, and CNN) in question are media outlets that've been publicly feuding with Trump for several years now, and it extremely well documented on how contrarian some of them can be with even the most minuscule of his words. Their refusal to acknowledge the "Department of Defense" to "Department of War" is purely done to reinforce an opposition to Trump, and does such political squabbling really need to leak into that passage in question? Randomuser335S (talk) 04:29, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
::That may be, but even if the federal government is considered an authority on the naming of cabinet departments, it would still not be correct to use the name "Department of War". After all, officially, it is still called the Department of Defense, as the names of cabinet departments can only be changed by Congress, which it has not done (at least, not yet). Andumé (talk) 04:43, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

Title: 2026 United States–Israeli strikes on Iraq

The previous title, "2026 United States–Israeli conflict with pro-Iranian Iraqi militias," was clearer. This one, in my opinion, creates confusion, given that the United States and Israel have not attacked Iraq or are at war with the Iraqis and Kurds, but only with pro-Iranian militias. Furthermore, while the conflict in general and elsewhere has seen a ceasefire, in Iraq, the conflict continues between pro-Iranian militias, especially the Shiite ones, against the Kurds and in areas at odds with the Sunnis. There have been almost no updates on losses in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan. ~2026-30628-51 ↗ (talk) 09:07, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

:@~2026-30628-51 That was another user that change that articles title from "2026 United States–Israeli conflict with pro-Iranian Iraqi militias" to "2026 United States–Israeli strikes on Iraq." I honestly preferred the "2026 United States–Israeli conflict with pro-Iranian Iraqi militias" title, as the article I created covered much more ground then just the coalition airstrikes against the PMF in Iraq, such as the PMF attacks in Syria.
:I simply didn't contest it due to me not wanting to have that fight. I'll be happy to change the article's title back to 2026 United States–Israeli conflict with pro-Iranian Iraqi militias if there is a consensus. Randomuser335S (talk) 15:57, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
::@Randomuser335S However, you need to request modification and consent on the page, which I can't. I agree with you on the broader issues. Syria has complained of infiltration, especially in collaboration with Hezbollah, perhaps towards Lebanon. The new Syrian government is fighting both the Shiites and Hezbollah fiercely. It doesn't want to get too involved with Israel, but there have been attacks against Hezbollah in some Syrian villages by Israel, almost as if they were cooperating with intelligence. They're trying to seal off the Syrian borders, but it's not easy; they still have problems controlling all areas of the country. Regarding Iraq, we have a Kurdish president and a new prime minister of a mixed government in which Shiite political weight is significant. He must try to be impartial and not side with the pro-Iranians. Officially, the PMF would report to the Iraqi prime minister, but they were created to fight al-Qaeda and only for that. However, armed forces are still doing other things, both against the United States and the Kurds, and in some contested areas even against the Sunnis. Yet after the second Gulf War, Iraq was almost forgotten by the media. In Europe, many people were surprised that there were European troops there as well as American ones, thinking that after the fall of Saddam, everything was over and everyone had long since returned home. Spain secretly withdrew its troops without mentioning it to the media, given the heated controversy between Sanchez and Trump. ~2026-30628-51 ↗ (talk) 21:43, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
