Aircraft names in infoboxes

Hi, not sure if you are aware but there is a long-standing convention of not repeating the manufacturer in the infobox name. That's why the manufacturer is absent from most articles.
The convention is explained at Template:Infobox aircraft#Parameters ↗. Nimbus <span style="color:#2F4F4F;">(Cumulus</span> <span style="color:#708090;">nimbus</span> <span style="color:#A9A9A9 ;">floats by)</span> 12:26, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

I like what you're doing simplifying aircraft links, replacing technical model names with the more commonly used names. Keep it up! 10mmsocket (talk) 06:42, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Disruptive editing

PLease stop your disruptive removal of manufacturer from infobox titles of aircraft articles against the infobox instructions. You are edit warring ↗ continually on multiple articles over this. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:13, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

:Incorrect. I looked it up myself and that same page states, "including the manufacturer in the "name" field is not necessary. Some exceptions exist, such as aircraft which only have model numbers. (Example: "Boeing 737", but "A320")." Relton66 (talk) 02:19, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

:I was told the manufacturer name is never to be included in the infobox name unless the model starts with a number, which Airbus models do not. Relton66 (talk) 02:15, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::The infobox instructions for the field state to omit the manufacturer unless it only has a model number. A220, A380 etc is a model number. It doesn't mean literally a number. P-51 Mustang is fine, as it's more than a model number, but if it was just P-51 it would need the manufacturer. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:20, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Well the page explicitly says to use A320, instead of Airbus A320, so no. Relton66 (talk) 02:25, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::A320 page says no such thing. Please point out where the pages say to ignore the infobox instructions? Additionally you are edit warring over these across the project, when reverted you must take it to the talk page and discuss, not reinstate your edits multiple times over many months. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:28, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::The wiki project page you linked says that. Direct quote, "including the manufacturer in the "name" field is not necessary. Some exceptions exist, such as aircraft which only have model numbers. (Example: "Boeing 737", but "A320")." It is saying to add Boeing to 737, but not to add Airbus to A320. Unless they're just really confusing instructions. Relton66 (talk) 02:29, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::I never linked to any such Wikiproject, nor mentioned a Wikiproject. And even if I did, Wikiprojects are irrelevant. They don't get to decide what happens with pages, they have no authority or ability to own or say how pages look. Wikiprojects are for editors with similar interests to collaborate, they cannot set rules. I referenced the Infobox instructions which are pretty clear. They are what matters, the Wikiproject doesn't come into this in any way, shape or form. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:33, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::True, you didn't. I was wrong about that. But I got that directly from the A320 page that says the page should follow the guidelines there, which is where that quote comes in. I have no clue why that would be different across models. The page states
:::::::Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft/page content ↗ for recommended layout, and guidelines. -
:::::::Before going into the infobox. Relton66 (talk) 02:37, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::That Wikiproject content guideline, as mentioned above, is irrelevant and has no say. Wikiprojects cannot in any way impose anything on an article, they're overreaching beyond what they can do and while you can follow them if you want, they have no clout or authority and anyone can edit against them. If you are reverted, you don't continue to edit war anyway, that is a very basic principle of Wikipedia. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:39, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::Sorry then, I was under the impression it was a rule. Relton66 (talk) 02:41, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::No it's not, it's something some people would like but with no teeth. Infobox guidelines are more important, as is Wikipedia policies. And edit warring is always a very bad idea.
::::::::::Please don't get me wrong, you make good edits other than this, do please don't get discouraged. However be aware that Wikiprojects are useful, but non-binding. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:43, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::Can you show me the guidelines that states Airbus has to be included, if possible? And would that apply to other manufacturers as well? Relton66 (talk) 02:46, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::::Its the Infobox instructions for Template:Infobox aircraft ↗. Basically don't include if the name is unambiguous. A320, A380 are ambigious names and just model numbers. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:49, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::::Ultimately though only 1 rule counts. You can be bold and make an edit, however if someone reverts you that means you do not have consensus for the edit. In that case the onus is on you, the one wanting to make the edit, to go to the talk page of that article and discuss it and attempt to obtain consensus. If you don't, then you don't repeat the edit. <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 03:03, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

30px|alt=Stop icon ↗ '''You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war ↗.''' This means that you are repeatedly reverting content back to how you think it should be, despite knowing that other editors disagree. Once it is known that there is a disagreement, users are expected to collaborate ↗ with others, avoid editing disruptively ↗, and try to reach a consensus ↗ – rather than repeatedly reverting the changes made by other users.

Important points to note:
# {{strong|Edit warring is disruptive behavior ↗ – regardless of how many reverts you have made;}}
# {{strong|Do not engage in edit warring – even if you believe that you are right.}}
You need to discuss the disagreement on the article's talk page ↗ and work towards a revision that represents consensus among everyone involved. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard ↗ or seek dispute resolution ↗ if discussions reach an impasse. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection ↗. {{strong|If you continue to engage in edit warring, you may be blocked ↗ from editing.}} <!-- Template:uw-ew --> <b style="color: Blue;">Canterbury Tail</b> <i style="color: Blue;">talk</i> 02:24, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

Edit on K2 Airways flight 1732

Hello, I am the same person as ~2026-34081-04, and I would like to clear something up. I just want to keep it as “-400SF” and not “-400” because it is a freighter. I don’t want this to get to an edit war and if it does, I apologize. PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 17:24, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

:I looked into it and the vast majority of 737 crash articles used just -x00, even if it was a freighter. I fixed the other ones to help remove any confusion. Relton66 (talk) 17:25, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::They think we are edit warring, we aren’t. I want to clear it up. Can you keep it “SF” so that way we don’t get blocked? Or you could put “-400F”. Thank you. PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 17:28, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::Thing is, we kind of are, so let's keep it here for now. I'll add cargo plane after 737, because some might not know the F stands for freighter anyway. Hope this helps. Relton66 (talk) 17:30, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Alright that is fine. PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 17:32, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Yeah, I can see where you're coming from in this case, as there are still passenger 737-400s flying. Relton66 (talk) 17:33, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::Yeah that is true PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 17:33, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia! I don't want you to be discouraged by this, just a simple disagreement, it happens. Relton66 (talk) 17:39, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::Thanks bro, also on “2026 in aviation”, that plane crash in Akron was kind of notable, however there is no Wikipedia page on it. PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 17:41, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::So for the future, 2026 in aviation's notability policies were confusing for a bit for me, but what I think goes is that very rarely do crashes without articles get featured there, unless it's the first crash of an aircraft type or something. The page is pretty much a 2026 aviation recap, where the most important events stick. That's why some accidents that do get an article, like the Robinson crash in Taiwan don't get featured. It's mainly commercial aircraft, as it's hard for general aviation or military aviation accidents to achieve notability on their own. For this specific example, general aviation accidents don't really effect the industry as a whole, unless someone really famous (like JFK Jr.'s PA-32 crash) dies in them, that really kicks off changes. Relton66 (talk) 17:45, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::The Piper one crashed into a house, so can you keep that? PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 18:07, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::I think it would be reverted. I don't necessarily know for sure the rules of that page, so maybe try asking Rosbif? They seem to be handling the "in aviation" pages notability guidelines. Relton66 (talk) 18:09, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::Alright PENNAVGEEKJ1718 (talk) 18:10, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::I have reverted your edit @PENNAVGEEKJ1718 as the crash does not have an article, is not notable and is a run-of-the-mill crash. Bloxzge 025 (talk) 03:38, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
