Introduction to contentious topics

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to ''' Armenia ↗, Azerbaijan ↗, or related conflicts''', a topic designated as '''''contentious ↗'''''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and <em>does <strong>not</strong> imply that there are any issues with your editing</em>.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee ↗. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators ↗ have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit <strong>carefully and constructively</strong>, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

<p>Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics <em>procedures</em>, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard ↗ or you may learn more about this contentious topic ↗. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template. </p>}}<!-- Derived from Template:Contentious topics/alert/first -->

Flag of Shah Tahmasp

thumb|Flag of Shah Tahmasp ↗
Hi! Regarding this ↗. Do you have any reliable source that this was indeed Shah Tahmasp's flag? ("the lamb and the sun"). For my part I haven't, and flag of Persia, according to Encyclopedia Britannica 1771.svg the quote on the file page ↗ is only from a website https://www.fotw.info/flags/ir_per16.html#xvi ↗... The only published reference is the 1771 Encyclopedia Britannica (p.604 plate LXXXI ↗), but they only explain that these are naval flags "FLAG is more particularly used at sea; for the colours, ancients, standards, etc. borne on the top of the masts of vessels, to notify the person who commands the ship, of what nation it is, and whether it be equipped for war or trade, fee Plate LXXXI.", and there is no reference to Shah Tahmasp p.598 ↗ Can't seem to find any reference among available sources otherwise. The only possible hint I've had so far is a painting of Shah Abbas and Jahangir ↗ showing Shah Abbas standing on a lamb (facing Jahangir's "lion"), but this might just be a taunt. Do you have some certainty on this? <span style=" 0.2em 0.2em 0.1em; class=texhtml"><span style="color:blue">'''''Pataliputra!'''''</span></span> '''(talk)''' 11:40, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

:Hi. You are right to be cautious here. I actually do not have a strong primary source directly connecting the “lamb and sun” emblem specifically to Shah Tahmasp’s state flag. So I agree the attribution should probably be treated cautiously unless a stronger published source appears. Retreels (talk) 11:45, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

June 2026

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions&nbsp;to :Qutuz ↗. When you were adding content to the page, you added duplicate arguments ↗ to a template which can cause issues with how the template is rendered. In the future, please use the preview ↗ button before you save your edit; this helps you find these errors as they will display in yellow at the top of the page. You can also install the userscript ↗ found here to help find and eliminate these errors. Thanks.<!---Template:Uw-dupargs---> '''<span style="color:#00d5ff !important">Zack</span><span style="color:#007F94 !important">mann</span>''' (Talk to me ↗/<span style="color:orange !important">What I been doing</span> ↗) 05:28, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi, Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate the feedback and will be more careful to check for duplicate parameters and preview my edits before saving. I’ll also look into the userscript you recommended.
:Thanks! Retreels (talk) 06:08, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :Young Woman with a Fan ↗

{{Quote box|quote=<p>If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article ↗.</p><p>You may want to consider using the Article Wizard ↗ to help you create articles.</p>|width=20%|align=right}}
A tag has been placed on :Young Woman with a Fan ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement ↗. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://legacy.davidmus.dk/en/collections/islamic/dynasties/safavids/art/119-2006. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of ''information'', but not as a source of ''sentences''. This part is crucial: ''say it in your own words''. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators '''will be blocked from editing ↗'''.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you ''must'' verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials ↗. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission ↗ for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy ↗ for more details, or ask a question here ↗.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-copyvio-notice --><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> Tenshi!
