New Orleans car 29

I just noticed your recent addition of car 29 to the roster of streetcars in the Streetcars In New Orleans article. The information is inaccurate, and the reference is dubious. The number of seats in car 29 is 0. A better reference would be Louis Hennick's definitive work The Streetcars of New Orleans, or his "Appendix III" to that work, which can be found on my website at http://friedman.cs.illinois.edu/app3/App3.htm
There is also a web site devoted specifically to car 29: http://friedman.cs.illinois.edu/car29/Car29.htm

New Orleans streeetcar - Rampart reconstruction

I was glad to see your edit to the Rampart-St Claude line article announcing its reconstruction and imminent reopening. Do you plan to make a similar edit to the Riverfront line article? HGFriedman (talk) 13:52, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

:Yes. Although I don't have any information about what will happen to the riverfront line. I assume that it will stop at the foot of canal street because the overhead lines are damaged, based on my observations, past the canal street foot. I also have no idea when service will fully be restored as NORTA hasn't even acknowledged the fact that the overhead lines are missing. Likely, due to the fact that the canal street ferry terminal was a larger priority.
:Sidenote: Are you the guy who runs the runs the Friedman streetcar album site? Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 14:05, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

::Yes, that's my site. friedman.cs.illinois.edu/ :-) HGFriedman (talk) 15:26, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
:::Your site helped me solve a mystery. For years I had wondered why there was a sign on a building that said "Riverfront Streetcar Barn" even though it was nowhere near the line lol. Now it makes sense.
:::Also there's an abandoned NOPSI substation near me. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 18:07, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
:It appears that the Rampart St. Claude line will be operated from Elysian Fields to UPT. While the Loyola-riverfront arrangement is spun off into it's own line. https://www.norta.com/getmedia/5af0729a-d537-4ea3-8280-48dd7a72c05b/Streetcars_12,-46,-47,-48,-49.pdf ↗https://www.norta.com/getmedia/5af0729a-d537-4ea3-8280-48dd7a72c05b/Streetcars_12,-46,-47,-48,-49.pdf
:So I guess Loyola-UPT and Rampart aren't the same thing anymore lol. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 13:37, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
::It also appears they have updated the numbers, names, and colors. So uhh, we might have to do some major updates lol.
::Instead of the confusingly titled Rampart-St. Claude, there are now two branch lines. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 13:52, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Technology Connections ↗

Hello Tape fanatic 007, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Technology Connections ↗, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Technology Connections ↗.

Deletion discussions ↗ usually run for seven days and are ''not'' votes. Our guide ↗ about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability ↗, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with <code><nowiki>{{Re|</nowiki>Sdkb<nowiki>}}</nowiki></code>. And don't forget to sign your reply with <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> . Thanks!

Edit to New Orleans RTA article

You wrote that the Loyola-Riverfront line "Utilizes trackage from Rampart-Loyola, Canal, and St. Charles line." St. Charles? Did you mean Riverfront? I don't think it utilizes any St. Charles line trackage. HGFriedman (talk) 14:43, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

:Yeah that's a mistake. I'm very tired at the moment. Yeah no, it's not St. Charles it's riverfront trackage. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 17:00, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

New Orleans plans re. Desire line

Hi, Tape Fanatic. I just saw your mention in Streetcars in New Orleans, Future Network Expansion, about the switches installed at Canal and Basin. These were intended for what became the Rampart-St. Claude line. I don't think RTA ever seriously considered restoring the Desire line as it had been up to 1948, but railfans talked about restoring the Desire line when what was actually contemplated was restoring the old St. Claude line.

I don't have access to New Orleans Magazine to check what it actually said. But your next reference, from railwaypreservation.com, mentions the "Desire corridor." I think calling it the Desire Line was a bit of railfan wishful thinking.

I would recommend referring to it as Desire corridor or St. Claude Line.

Cheers, George HGFriedman (talk) 16:28, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

:Ah fair, I forgot the initial proposal had it go through basin street.
:I'll see if I can find a way to send you a scan of the article. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 16:55, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
::Thanks! HGFriedman (talk) 17:15, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
:::In the meantime I have retracted it. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 17:16, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
::::Ok. But you're right that the switches were there, at Canal & Basin and Canal & N. Rampart. I think they had been thinking of a loop terminal for a line roughly the same as the old St. Claude Line. Then they decided to through-route it with the Loyola-UPT line, so when that was built, the original (unused) switches came out. HGFriedman (talk) 17:23, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
:::I have emailed you a scan of the article along with another article I thought you might find interesting. Hopefully that will clear things up. Tape fanatic 007 (talk) 15:44, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
::::I just finished reading the two articles. Thanks for sending them! Very interesting. HGFriedman (talk) 16:11, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

New Orleans Streetcar Timeline source

Hello, I am a curator at a museum here in New Orleans and think this timeline would be really effective in an exhibition I am currently working on. I saw that you were the most recent user to update it, so thought I'd reach out. Are you the original creator? And if so, would you mind sharing where you pulled all of your data from? I'd like to credit the maker of the timeline if possible. Thanks NOLAAnthro (talk) 16:49, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

:Yes I am the one who made the Timeline, evidence: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Streetcars_in_New_Orleans&diff=prev&oldid=1221242129 ↗, might need some updating though. The information for the timeline is mainly from Chapter 3 of the book ''The Streetcars of New Orleans'' by Louis C. Hennick with some info taken from other Wikipedia articles, which themselves cite news articles for the newer lines. If you have any further questions let me know. Riverfront Streetcar Line in NOLA

While you're cleaning up details about the NOLA streetcar lines, you might want to look at the opening paragraph of this one. It states an opening date of 2016, which ignores the early period as Loyola-UPT starting in 2013. Knowing you are working on these articles, I did not want to change it myself. 17:09, 18 June 2025 (UTC) HGFriedman (talk) 17:09, 18 June 2025 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Hi SirHaydn 314 - thanks for updating WMATA ridership. Please remember to use edit summaries ↗; they're important for all edits, but especially important when you're making a large number of edits in a short span. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:54, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

:Oh yeah sorry, I've been going so fast I forgot. You know I probably should have used station codes for the templates and used one template, I didn't know how to do nested switch stuff until recently, but that is the benefit of hindsight. SirHaydn 314 (talk) 23:56, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
:Oh btw, feel free to proofread and ask any questions about the data lol. Given I was dealing with 98 stations worth of ridership data, I wouldn't be surprised if something slipped through the cracks. I really should have used Python to automate this but oh well. SirHaydn 314 (talk) 23:58, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
::I think the current system is fine - station names are easier to read than codes. I personally don't think the ranks are particularly useful (we can always note exceptionally high or low ridership in the prose of articles), but others seem to like them. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:15, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
:::Ah I was thinking about futureproofing by changing it to codes so that was a name change wouldn't screw up the template but tbh I agree with your decision. SirHaydn 314 (talk) 00:18, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
