Clarendon Hills

Hey - I was hoping to get your help on the Clarendon Hills (B&P station) ↗ article that I just created. I think I had collected enough information to build out the article, but there's some missing data gaps, most obviously the exact date at which passenger service to the station was terminated. Is this something you would be able to find out? Also, the article currently sits in conflict with Mount Hope station ↗ in terms of which one was formerly assigned the name of Monterey. From 1850s-1870s maps, as well as the distances assigned to Monterey vis-a-vis Forest Hills and Hyde Park in the 1850s Boston Directories, it seemed evident that Clarendon Hills was the station that originally had that name. Just wanted to flag that for your attention. Any help you could give would be appreciated! Ro4444 (talk) 18:40, 5 April 2026 (UTC)

:@Ro4444: Sure, I'll see what I can do. I've moved it to Clarendon Hills station (Massachusetts) ↗ per the relevant article title guideline ↗. I believe you're correct about the Monterey name; I'll correct the Mount Hope article. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 23:06, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
::Oh that was quick. I saw your edits and that's perfect, thank you very much!
::One last thing, I think these two files of yours on Commons got crossed on names...the Hazelwood file actually depicts CH station and vice versa. Would you be able to correct that? Thanks again.

:::I'll probably do so more editing later. A note: when you're using a single ref tag for multiple sources, it's best to use {{tl|multiref2}} so they don't get smooshed together.
:::Good catch on the images - I've fixed the names. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:45, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Dashes on Big Dig ↗

So, the issue is that, per WP:MOSDASH ↗, it either needs to be spaced en dashes or unspaced em dashes. The old way was unspaced em dashes, so I changed it. If you prefer spaced en dashes, that's fine, but that's not what is on the page now. --<span style="color: #be0032;">'''Jprg1966'''</span> (talk) 18:32, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

:@Jprg1966: Oops, you're totally right, I missed that they were already em dashes. I've changed to spaced en dashes and restored the rest of your edit. Best, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 19:29, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

Crushed it figuring out approximate coords for Dunbarton plantation ↗. Appreciate all you do. Cheers, ~j jengod (talk) 22:25, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

:@Jengod: Thanks for the kind words! Sometimes old plantations and farmhouses are real tricky to track down, but this one wasn't too hard. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:59, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Loudoun Gateway edits.

I have made edits on the Loudoun Gateway ↗ train page. I think most of it is info that should be on there but may you give me feedback especially as you have fixed my edits in the past. Thank you - Wobs. Wobs100 (talk) 02:49, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

SF Illinois Street Line

I started working on an article about the ATSF operations in San Francisco at User:Mjdestroyerofworlds/Illinois Street Line. I thought this topic may be of interest to you - please contribute anything if you want. -MJ (talk) 19:16, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

:@Mjdestroyerofworlds: Thanks for creating this; it's an odd little topic. (Same with the WP line and its Potrero Hill tunnel.) I'll check ''When Steam Ran on the Streets of San Francisco'' when I'm back to my books next week, but otherwise I don't have much. A few potential sources with information about Pier 52 and Pier 54, both of which were used by the Santa Fe: https://sfmea.sfplanning.org/2010.0493E_DEIR5pt2.pdf ↗, https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/ca-court-of-appeal/1811286.html ↗, https://www.sfport.com/files/2022-12/EmbarcaderoRegisterNominationSec8.pdf ↗, https://sfplanning.s3.amazonaws.com/default/files/plans-and-programs/planning-for-the-city/sea-level-rise/SLRVCA_Report_11.pdf ↗ Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:31, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
::@Mjdestroyerofworlds: No luck with ''When Steam Ran on the Streets of San Francisco'', unfortunately; it only covers passenger service. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:34, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Opinion on galleries

I am asking several editors on their opinions on galleries, including you.

- TriStateGuy, NJ based TriStateGuy (talk) 01:07, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

:@TriStateGuy: What specifically are you asking about? Galleries are useful for some situations where showing multiple images can significantly add to readers' understanding of a subject. For example, two I have used are at Green Line Extension#Main project ↗ to illustrate multiple aspects of a major construction project, and at Alewife station#Arts on the Line ↗ to show a set of artworks at a station.
:If you are asking about your reverted gallery additions at Union Pacific 4014 ↗ and Southern Pacific 4449 ↗, I do not believe a gallery is useful in either article. Simply showing the same locomotive in different locations does not significantly add to readers' understanding of the subject. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:30, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Open Question lead: Berkeley/Downtown Berkeley BART

{{quote|When did Berkeley become Downtown Berkeley? (circa 1995?)}}

Here's an Oakland Tribune article from May 3, 1996 ↗ talking about the vote for the name change. Thanks for the idea for my own "open questions" page, too! -MJ (talk) 03:22, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

:@Mjdestroyerofworlds: Thank you so much! Looks like the board approved the change ↗ the next week.
:I'll keep an eye on your list as well. I do have a copy of ''Tracks, Tires & Wires: Public Transportation in California's Santa Clara Valley'' which has a chapter about the horsecars; I'm happy to scan the chapter for you if you'd like. It gives November 4, 1868, as the first day of service on the San Jose and Santa Clara Railroad, which ran on Santa Clara Street and The Alameda. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:42, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
::Thanks for being so kind and helpful! -MJ (talk) 03:53, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

Open Question lead: Acushnet

The New Bedford Board of Commerce was advertising as late as November 1935 that, as part of a sale going on at stores around town, rail fares would be reimbursed with large-enough purchases. This included Acushnet station (Ad here ↗), which indicates that people were still riding from there. -MJ (talk) 04:14, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

:@Mjdestroyerofworlds: Good find, but I don't think it's proof that the station was still active at the time. The list includes some localities that never had stations (East Mattapoisett, Osterville) and some stations closed prior to 1935 (Bournedale, Edgartown). Up til the 1960s, I'm finding some references to "Acushnet Station" as the name of the surrounding village (ex ↗) as well. From my personal timetable collection (currently being scanned), Acushnet is gone by the 1934 timetable. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 04:59, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

Making new article

I am currently on a article for the Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority via my sandbox. I believe its in your scope as its mentioned in Duffields station ↗. You are welcome to add/fix any mistakes on it, otherwise, I will put it into the article space. Wobs100 (talk) 00:15, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

engaging other contributors

Hi Pi!

Hope you're having a great day. One thing though - you have twice now edited/removed contributions made by another registered editor with no trace of any discussion or engagement whatsoever. In my case over at Gary/Chicago Airport station ↗. Your edit summaries read {{tq|cleanup/copyedits}} and {{tq|remove unsourced claim and excess image; format cite}}. This gives no hint you are acknowledging your fellow editors, their recent additions - and that you confirm you understand the aims for those additions. Worse, they read completely neutral, despite you clearly disagreeing with contributions others have provided.

Just to take one example: describing the removal of an image someone else just added as "remove excess image" is directly inappropriate, because it reads as if you are performing uncontroversial maintenance work, but someone (me in this case) just added this image, so the notion it is in excess is clearly not uncontroversial. It is not an universal truth. I'm sure you did not mean to, but you effectively treat me as a vandal, whose additions are to be summarily cleaned away.

''This is not the way.'' I invite you to discuss on talk when you dislike contributions others have provided - this way you can work together in finding a mutually agreeable solution.

I furthermore would ask you to clearly acknowledge in your edit summaries when you are editing back out newly added material. I'm afraid your editing style comes off as off-putting and non-committal. It's pretty simple - please directly address other editors if you must undo their work. Basically I need you to start acknowledging when your edits are directly impacting those of others.

You have done nothing wrong, exactly. I can understand some editors are very confrontation-shy and wish to stay out of debates. But here on Wikipedia you are sometimes required to communicate ↗. Regards, CapnZapp (talk) 18:55, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

:@CapnZapp: You are an experienced editor with >20,000 edits over 18 years. I know you know better than to add bare URLs ↗, uncited claims ↗, and images in the external links section ↗. I'm sorry that you're put off by my edit summaries, but I don't think the onus is on me to start a discussion with an experienced editor about basic things like WP:V ↗. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 21:27, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
::But why do you do the same to me when I used a link to cite my edit that was use 15 times by "experienced editors" like you? Acelalover (talk) 12:19, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
:::@Acelalover: You need to cite the source inline - please read Wikipedia:Citing sources ↗. Listing a source in the edit summary is not sufficient. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 16:26, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
::::Why do other stats and specs have no cites? Acelalover (talk) 17:44, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::@Acelalover: Unfortunately, sometimes editors do add information without citing a reliable source. If you see such information, the best thing you can do is find a reliable source ↗ and cite it yourself. If you're not able to do so, you can remove the claim or tag it with {{tl|citation needed}}. Do note that information in a lead section ↗ does not have to be cited if the same information is cited elsewhere in the article (see MOS:LEADCITE ↗), and that information in an infobox is often cited at the bottom of the box (see this edit ↗ for a good example). Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:18, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::I have followed your advice. How is it now? Acelalover (talk) 21:55, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
:::::::@Acelalover: Thanks for adding the source. In general, it's best to format the citation using templates: {{tl|cite web}}, {{tl|cite book}}, {{tl|cite AV media}} (for videos), etc. That produces a consistent display on the article and makes it easier to maintain. {{u|4300streetcar}} has kindly done the formatting for you. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:45, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
::::::::Thank you so much for helping me! Acelalover (talk) 01:57, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
