Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism ↗
48px|left|alt=|link= ↗

A tag has been placed on :Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the article appears to be about web content that does not credibly indicate ↗ how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable ↗.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the {{Querylink|Special:Log|qs=type=delete&page=Journal+of+Dramatic+Theory+and+Criticism|deleting administrator}}. <!-- Template:Db-notability-notice --><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> Fermiboson (talk) 06:55, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Proposed deletion ↗ of :Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism ↗
left|link=|alt=Notice|48px| ↗
The article :Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗ because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''Non-notable journal. Not indexed in any ''selective'' databases, no independent sources. Does not meet WP:NJournals ↗ or WP:GNG ↗.'''</blockquote>
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> Randykitty (talk) 16:16, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

Eureka
Hello! I saw you were doing some work on the reference materials at Eureka: A Prose Poem ↗. Somehow, all the references to Jeffrey Meyers's book were transformed to page 214, though they were not all on page 214. I'm not sure how to fix it so I just reverted and wanted to give you the heads up. Sorry for undoing your work as I don't know what went wrong. --Midnightdreary (talk) 14:38, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
:I also noticed that you changed the edition of the source. I don't have access to that edition so I can't confirm if the page numbers align. I assume you did so? --Midnightdreary (talk) 14:41, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
::Originally, two editions of the Meyer text were cited, but with conflicting information; the year of the edition was specified as 1992, but the publisher information corresponded to a 2000 edition. I found (and linked to ↗) the 1992 edition and checked that every single page cited aligned with the text that the note corresponded to. You should be able to double-check each one as well, as it's available to borrow in full from the Internet Archive! spida-tarbell 𐡸 (talk • contribs ↗) 18:36, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
:Hello! Not all the references were transformed to page 214; those referring to other pages are annotated as such in the next to the footnote itself (e.g. here is a fact from p. 214<ref name="meyers1992">{{cite book | last=Meyers | first=Jeffrey | title=Edgar Allan Poe: His Life and Legacy |url=https://archive.org/details/edgarallanpoehis0000meye_i3j1 | publisher=Charles Scribner's Sons ↗ | publication-place=New York | date=1992 | isbn=0-684-19370-1 |lccn=92017890 |p=214}}</ref> and then here is a fact from p. 215!{{r|meyers1992|p=215}}

::Hello! I think you need to look again. The citations are definitely all saying page 214 in the footnote. --Midnightdreary (talk) 19:21, 1 July 2025 (UTC)
:::Hi,
:::The short version:
:::* I made an edit such that the reference does not specify a page number, and all page number information is appended!
:::* I'm sorry I made so many changes (citation formatting, deduplication, metadata changes) in one go; that isn't good editing and it isn't good citizenship.
:::* Thank you for coming here to talk to me about it! You've put a tremendous amount of work in this article and I'm grateful both for that effort and for your willingness to talk through changes.
:::The long version:
:::It is true that because the first named reference was specific to page 214, that this page number was part of the reference text throughout; I do typically prefer to make the first reference without a page then append {{tlx|rp}} to that, using simply {{r}} thereafter. In this case I hesitated because I thought perhaps it best to minimize the visual clutter of e.g. consecutive <ref name="ex">example</ref>{{rp|214}}{{r|ex|p=214}} reference page tags{{r|ex|p=214}}, and I assumed (incorrectly) that it would suffice for the omission to tell readers that the default is page 214, but superseded by an explicit page number following the reference.
:::At the risk of redundancy, a longer apology: I'm sorry I overhauled this page without checking in via the talk page first. I realize that combining citations is one (typically benign) thing, but I made a lot of changes at once. It would have been more courteous and more competent to break those out into separate edits, such that parsing the changes and reverting as needed/desired would be more feasible.
:::To be honest, I got very excited about the article last night and didn't consider how not-helpful my "help" would be without giving other editors a heads up. I think this is a fantastic article and I'd be pleased to *actually collaborate* on -- most of all -- finding URLs where references might be read for free!
:::I fear "being taken for a madman"<ref>heh</ref> writing this wall of text, but I'd rather err on the side of earnestness here.
{{Reflist-talk}}
:::Thanks again,
:::spida-tarbell 𐡸 (talk • contribs ↗) spida-tarbell 𐡸 (talk • contribs ↗) 00:38, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
::::Thanks for looking into this. I'm not super familiar with some of the fancier styles of citation. I don't believe you'd need to engage in advance for something like this. Nevertheless, I'd like to point out WP:CITESTYLE ↗ that suggests that editors should not change an article's citation style if it is already consistent. Now the page looks quite inconsistent to me. --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:29, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
:::::Okay, I'd be happy to change the references to be consistent, if that wouldn't be too jarring. spida-tarbell 𐡸 (talk • contribs ↗) 21:47, 6 July 2025 (UTC)
