:Dear DoubleGrazing,
:I am somewhat confused by your feedback on the Nathan M. Newmark Medal page. There are many pages exactly like the Nathan M. Newmark page on Wikipedia that highlight awards in a variety of fields. None of them have journal sources and they all point back to the organization that sponsors the medal. For example:
:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Noble_Prize (ASCE)
:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Medal (ASCE)
:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Prize (NAE)
:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_von_Karman_Medal (ASCE)
:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vilhelm_Bjerknes_Medal (European Geosciences Union)
:Can you help me understand how the Nathan M. Newmark page is different from these other pages. What kind of sources are you looking for?
:Thank you 74.95.202.210 ↗ (talk) 16:14, 13 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. I have sent you a note about a page you started
Hi Tanagnos. Thank you for your work on Haresh C. Shah ↗. Another editor, Ldm1954, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol ↗ and left the following comment:
{{Bq|1=This page was really bad. Wikipedia articles for academics are not long essays on someone, they are short statements of basic information. After heavy trimming the page still has far too many unsourced claims, and little demonstration of notability. Draftification for quality control is not unreasonable.}}
To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{code|<nowiki>{{Re|</nowiki>Ldm1954<nowiki>}}</nowiki>}}. <small>(Message delivered via the Page Curation ↗ tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)</small><!-- Template:Sentnote-NPF -->
Ldm1954 (talk) 11:41, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
:{{Re|Ldm1954}} Thank you for your detailed reviews and resources. I tried to model your examples, and I believe the story line for Dr. Haresh C. Shah and his contributions is clearer now. I have submitted it for review. I would like to make clear that I AM NOT paid by anyone. I am a retired earthquake engineering who is trying to create more information about some of the pioneers in earthquake engineering who have significantly advanced the field. I would also like to provide some advice for you: Comments such as "i am not paid to do this" and "this page was really bad" are not particularly helpful. Tanagnos (talk) 21:24, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
::While the page is a better, it is still a long essay/extended CV with many irrelevant details. As just one example, the "WSSI initiatives" is puffery ↗ because there is no evidence that he, personally, did this; notability is not inherited ↗. Terms like "early pioneers" is WP:Peacock ↗; the only way that statement can be used is '''''iff there is a specific statement by an independent source that states that.''''' Those are a few examples.
::N.B., I suggest that you do your due diligence before you advise. Ldm1954 (talk) 21:59, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
:::'''Addendum''':I forgot to add that Technical Reports by him have not necessarily been independently reviewed, so may not qualify as reliable sources. Ldm1954 (talk) 23:03, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
:::{{Re|Ldm1954}} So let me get this right. This sentence "Shah and his students were early pioneers in the application of probabilistic techniques to perform regional seismic hazard analyses and seismic risk analysis of large infrastructure systems." should say "Shah and his students preformed research in the application of probabilistic techniques to perform regional seismic hazard analyses and seismic risk analysis of large infrastructure systems." Would that solve the problem?
:::And the information on WSSI, if I were to state that he was on the board of WSSI, would that provide the evidence that he did the work. Or reference pages from the oral history where he discusses his contributions? thanks Tanagnos (talk) 23:07, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
::::For the pioneers, what you say is right.
::::On the other it is tricky. Just being on the board does not mean that he personally (or his group) did it. I have not checked in detail the oral history. Ldm1954 (talk) 23:20, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
:::::{{Re|Ldm1954}} As for reliable sources. All of those technical reports from the Blume Center are PhD theses. Are PhD theses not considered reliable sources? Do I need to instead replace them by the journal articles that were written from the PhD theses. I always thought that a PhD thesis was considered reliable because you have a committee to review it. Please advise. Tanagnos (talk) 23:24, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
::::::PhD theses are reliable, but the sourcing does not state which are theses. Some have him as co-author, which is not what a thesis has (even those written by the advisor, which I know has happened). Ldm1954 (talk) 23:30, 27 August 2025 (UTC)

This is not how we write articles, and COI
I appears that you are creating many articles based upon "An EERI Oral History Series, 2025" or similar. You have the format very wrong, see this guide. I corrected a couple, but will move others to draft for you to correct -- i am not paid to do this.
Are you paid by EERI? If so you have a WP:COI ↗ which must be declared. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:01, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
