Metal Slader Glory sources

Hello there! I hope you're having a good rest from Wikipedia :) Look i have left sources that i have found regarding Metal Slader Glory that i have found so far at the article's talk page. I think with these remaining sources, plus the Famitsu review that was previously not scanned online (https://archive.org/details/famitsu0142/page/38/mode/1up), will lead to Metal Slader Glory becoming a potential GA if you want. Take care and have a nice day :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:42, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Translation requests #2

Hello there Tarkus! I hope you're doing well :) Look, sorry for bothering you right now but i actually plan to do a rewrite for Hyper Duel by Technosoft. I don't know if you have the time but i wanted to ask you what does it say in these two reviews by Saturn Fan ↗ and the Japanese Sega Saturn Magazine ↗ respectively. If you can also identify the name of the reviewers from each magazine (two ↗ by Saturn Fan and three ↗ by Sega Saturn Magazine) i would be very grateful. Take care of yourself and happy week :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:29, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
:Hi KGRAMR, I hope you're doing well. I don't have time to do these translations. I recommend using a phone with Google Translate and holding it up to your screen to translate in real-time. If you want, I can verify the information from the translation is accurate. <span style="color: #000000">'''TarkusAB'''</span><span style="color: #aa0000">'''talk'''</span>/<span style="color: #aa0000">'''contrib'''</span> ↗ 17:53, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
:{{re|TarkusAB}}Let me see if i can find the Google Translate program for my phone (which is a Redmi Xiaomi left by my dad) and i'll get back to you as soon as i can. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:59, 30 May 2024 (UTC
:{{ping|TarkusAB}}OK so, i downloaded and used Google Translate. This is more or less what it gave to me: 1) The names of the two Saturn Fan reviewers are Toshiyuki Nishimura and Yasuhiro Yamaguchi. 2) The names of the three Sega Saturn Magazine reviewers are Atsuko Suzuki, Akashiya Sanman and Ryoichi Kosaka. Are those their real names? (P.S. I also found out via two interviews with Naosuke Arai (1) ↗ and (2) ↗) that Hyper Duel was made by ten staff members more or less. If i understand correctly the SSM interview, the arcade version was planned from the design of the game's arcade board (the TEC442-A) and took some time. The Saturn conversion was made in several months out of high demand from players. Is that also right from what i gathered?) Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
::* I would not trust Google Translate with Japanese names. Kanji can be translated in different ways so unless you can verify through other means, don't bother.
::* The Saturn Fan interview is about Thunder Force. The only part he talks about Hyper Duel is when he says that they are thinking of porting it over due to player demand.
::* Yes, it was ten staff (Saturn version), and correct about the arcade board. I'm not seeing anything about development time.
::<span style="color: #000000">'''TarkusAB'''</span><sup><span style="color: #aa0000">'''talk'''</span>/<span style="color: #aa0000">'''contrib'''</span> ↗</sup> 00:40, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
::{{re|TarkusAB}}For a conversion made by only ten staff members, i will say they did a pretty damn good job upgrading the arcade original. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:54, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
::{{re|TarkusAB}}Thanks to your helpful advice and this last very important piece of the puzzle (https://web.archive.org/web/20150420080550/http://www.1up.com/features/pleasure-pain?pager.offset=1 - A planned North American release by Working Designs), i can now work on Hyper Duel :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:30, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
::Hey there! Sorry for bothering you once again but this Gamest article about Hyper Duel (https://archive.org/details/gamest0096/page/16/mode/2up) caught my attention. Why is that? Well, using Google Translate and the camera function, i was more or less able to deduct that Hyper Duel was Technosoft's first full-foray release for arcades. Yeah, there was Thunder Force AC but it seems that Hyper Duel was their first arcade original release. Is that more or less correct? Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:13, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
:::Yes it's their first ''original'' arcade game. <span style="color: #000000">'''TarkusAB'''</span><sup><span style="color: #aa0000">'''talk'''</span>/<span style="color: #aa0000">'''contrib'''</span> ↗</sup> 23:39, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
:::{{re|TarkusAB}}Cool! I think Google Translate will be a handy tool for future researchs. Of course i can also consult with you to see if what it's being said is more or less accurate :D I do intent getting Hyper Duel to GA status once everything is all done and i'll credit you for helping me with this effort :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:44, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
:::{{ping|TarkusAB}}Hello there! Probably a few months late XD but thanks your help, i was able to turn Hyper Duel and also Blast Wind (which never had an article before) into GAs. :::{{ping|TarkusAB}}Hello and happy weekend! Sorry for bothering you right now in case you're busy but i'm doing a reworking of the page for Gaiapolis and i came across with this info. It is a ranking system kinda like how Game Machine did with its top listings but i want to know how Monthly Coin Journal handled it: (https://archive.org/details/coin-journal-july-1993/Coin%20Journal%20July%201993/page/342/mode/1up). Thanks and i hope you're doing well :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:25, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
::::{{ping|KGRAMR}} Hi Roberth, I always enjoy hearing from you and hope you are doing well! :) So the scoring is a little complicated but I figured it out. If you go to the following page after the one you linked, you'll see a big table with the games listed on the side and columns labeled A,B,C, which actually represent regions of Japan. The table shows which games made the most money in the arcades last month in each region. So for example, Gaiapolis was the 4th highest grossing cabinet in region A. The magazine assigned these rankings points (e.g. rank 1 = 10 points, rank 2 = 9 points, .... rank 10 = 1 point) and then totaled the points for each game and that represents the ranking on the first page. So Gaiapolis was ranked 4,7,8,6,9,6,8 which are points of 7,4,3,5,2,5,3 which add up to 29 which is why you see 29 next to Gaiapolis on the first page. I don't think our readers need to know this complexity. We can simplify to ''Monthly Coin Journal'' ranked Gaiapolis as the 12th highest-grossing arcade machine in Japan in June 1993 based on an arcade operator survey. (Though that doesn't sound all that impressive) It's important to indicate "highest-grossing", not "most popular", since games had different costs, play-times, etc. <span style="color: #000000">'''TarkusAB'''</span><span style="color: #aa0000">'''talk'''</span>/<span style="color: #aa0000">'''contrib'''</span> ↗ 08:34, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
::::{{re|TarkusAB}}Thank you so much for the help! I just finished a full rewrite and restructure of Gaiapolis, which would not have been possible thanks to your previous help with translating the liner notes of the original 1993 CD album. I just hope that, with the sign that the game received a new CD album as recent as 2024, we'll see Gaiapolis being finally released on the Arcade Archives. I'm gonna go ahead and add the Coin Journal source. Thank you once again for your help and have a good day :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 10:49, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
::::{{re|TarkusAB}}Hello and happy weekend once again! Recently, i am doing a planned rewrite for Cho Ren Sha 68K and i stumbled upon a source of particular interest which might be useful for the reception section: this article by Game Hihyō (https://archive.org/details/game-hihyou-vol-58-game-magazine-scan-jp/page/n52/mode/1up). I want to know like a general idea was to what it is being said by the reviewer in that review to see if it might be useful in the reception section or not. Thanks and have a good day :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:20, 7 June 2025 (UTC)
::::{{re|TarkusAB}}Hello and happy weekend! Sorry for bothering right now in case you're busy but i'm currently finishing work on a full rewrite of Cho Ren Sha 68K for... well... the X68000. I came across with this interview ↗ regarding its inclusion on the X68000 Z. Since you have more knowledge of the Japanese language, i wanted to ask you to see if you could come up with a more resumed paragraph about it. I will credit you for your efforts once i take CRS68K to GA. Thank you and have a good day :D Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:56, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

:::::{{re|TarkusAB}}Hello there! I hope you're doing well. While i was doing research for my future rework of Magical Chase, i came across with the liner notes of the official soundtrack (https://vgmsite.com/soundtracks/magical-chase-original-soundtrack/03%20Booklet%20Interior.jpg). Something that i'm trying to understand, based on what Google Translate throws at me with this Sakimoto comment: "At the time, when shooting games were still at their peak, the Quest staff were shining with excitement as they say 'Let's do something interesting with this group of people'" What i am trying to decypher, since this comment most likely is referring as to why Magical Chase was developed, is that they wanted to something interesting with the genre or is it something with another meaning. If you can help me out trying to figure out in a resumed manner what Sakimoto said in those liner notes, i would be very thankful for your help. Thanks and have a good day :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:26, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
::::::{{re|KGRAMR}} Hi Roberth, yes. He is saying: {{xt|At the time, when shooting games were really popular, all of us Quest staff were saying with excitement: "let's try doing something interesting with this team!". Us sound team members had the spirit of needing to make something special too.}} I would interpret that basically as you did; that shooters were really popular at the time, and so they wanted to make a shooter too but wanted to do something interesting/special/unique in the genre. <span style="color: #000000">'''TarkusAB'''</span><span style="color: #aa0000">'''talk'''</span>/<span style="color: #aa0000">'''contrib'''</span> ↗ 00:40, 3 September 2025 (UTC)

Some future GA reviews

Hello there! I hope you're doing well. Just so you know ahead, my next GA nomination most likely will be Magical Chase for the TurboGrafx-16. But first, i must do a full rewrite for it outside of the main page, since i discovered a lot of really interesting info as to why copies of the game are so sought after. Once you see it on the WPVG talk page, that's my nomination. Take care and have a good day :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:13, 28 August 2025 (UTC)

:{{ping|KGRAMR}} That sounds great, Roberth! I will probably review it once it is up. Also, I will share with you that I recently created Template:Psikyo ↗ and may be improving the company page sometime soon. <span style="color: #000000">'''TarkusAB'''</span><span style="color: #aa0000">'''talk'''</span>/<span style="color: #aa0000">'''contrib'''</span> ↗ 19:04, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
:{{re|TarkusAB}}I actually dabble on Gunbird 1 not too long ago by finding reviews for it. I do know that Angeldeb82 did tackle Gunbird 2 and Cannon Spike in terms of finding reviews to establish the game's notability on the website. Perhaps in the future, i will tackle another Psykio game... Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:28, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
:{{re|TarkusAB}}Okay, so the nomination for Magical Chase is now open. I plan to find reviews for various game articles here so, i can lend my hand to one of the Psikyo article in the meanwhile before i prepare myself to do another potential GA, most likely another Atari Jaguar game article. Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:34, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
:{{re|TarkusAB}}Hello and happy new year! Just so you know before hand, one of my future GA projects might be Space Manbow for the MSX2 but i don't know when the draft i have planned for it might be completed, since it has a LOT of information to cover. I will work on it between other drafts i have planned but i want to do it slowly but surely, since i want to establish its notability before somebody takes notice of the current state the article is in and deletes it. I might release parts of my draft in phases to establish its overall notability though. Once you see it on the WPVG talk page, that's my nomination. Take care and have a good day :) Roberth Martinez (talk) 22:19, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
:{{re|TarkusAB}}Hello and happy weekend! Okay, so the nomination for Space Manbow is now open. I am now going to find reviews for a couple of SNES game articles here in the meantime. Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:52, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
{{re|TarkusAB}}Hello there! I hope you had a great weekend. I don't know if you noticed but i expanded the reception section of Metal Slader Glory with a bunch of sources talking about the original Famicom version. There might be two reviews out there waiting to be found (namely Marukatsu Super Famicom and Hippon Super!), but i believe the article is now at a level that you can nominate to be a GA. Just so you know. Anyways, have a great day:D Roberth Martinez (talk) 18:42, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

:{{ping|KGRAMR}} I did see you did that! It looks great. I may nominate it as some point in the future when I have time and the current GAN list shrinks. Question

Hello @TarkusAB, I want to reply to the edit summary ↗ I agree that placing the research content under Legacy works better, but I would like to ask about the sections themselves. For example, the 2048 (video game) ↗ article includes "Use in artificial intelligence research", which is not a section listed in the general sections of the Manual of Style, and the article is considered well written. In that context, are the sections I added, "Computational complexity" and "Artificial intelligence research", really so problematic as to justify the suggestion to stop editing? I wanted to highlight that they are two research topics, but I agree it is simpler to include them as Research inside Legacy, as you edited. Additionally, could you please clarify which other changes you believe are problematic, since the edit summary refers to "a lot"? I’m also in the process of completing the lead and expect to finish it tomorrow. After that, I plan to step back from editing the article as the work reaches a natural stopping point. Carloseow (talk) 07:15, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

:{{ping|Carloseow}} 2048 has no other legacy to speak of. That's why there's a dedicated section. With Sokoban, AI research is closely related to discussion about the game's legacy and computational complexity, so it makes more sense to group it. You also have only one small paragraph whereas 2048 has three larger ones. Splitting things apart with different headers only makes sense when those sections are large. Otherwise it's harder to read.
:The other change I undid was grouping the Games with History. Those sections did not flow well together. You ended discussion about the history, in chronological order, succinctly, but then went straight into talking about different random games. How is the reader supposed to know when the talk about series history ends, and the games list begins? These are really entirely different sections. You are also using those one-sentence paragraphs that you've been repeatedly told to avoid.
:The comment came from a place of worry that you were going to endlessly tinker with the article and it would slowly change back into what it was before. But I was thinking a little irrationally with my comment. I'll just unwatch the article so I stop commenting. Good luck. ::Thanks. Good catch. I converted these paragraphs to a list. Also, I added the pending lead. It is always good to have more eyes looking at an article to improve it. I don't have further changes pending. It seems my work on it has truly reached a natural stopping point, as planned. Carloseow (talk) 21:45, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

:NVM, i finished it:
:How did this game come about?
:I was playing PC typing games at the time and wondered to myself if they could be made more interesting. At that time, by chance we started talking about how we could implement a typing game into House of the Dead 2, and the idea was approved.
:Was the idea to make an arcade game from the beginning?
:It was intended for home consoles, but deep down, I really wanted to try releasing it in arcades too. From that, when I asked Mr. Nakagawa in software group 1 if it's OK to use House of the Dead 2, and mentioned it could work for arcades. He said "sounds interesting, go for it" and so it was decided.
:Were there no problems for Sega creating a typing game?
:Our presentation was really popular. We made a video showing a word box appear, and then typing would "hit" the zombie and they would fall over. The boss, VP, Software group 3's Oguchi (''presumably Hisao Oguchi ↗'') and Sonic Team's Naka (''presumably Yuji Naka ↗'') all said it was interesting.
:It was made pretty considerate yes?
:Yea, originally we didn't have "fuzzy searching ↗", so there would be a lot of times the player would miss. Players would get stressed and not want to play. So from the beginning, we wanted the game to be accommodating.
:Would you say the most interesting part of the games is the words?
:There's another planner besides me on the team, and their knowledge really comes out there. At first, I was going to write all the text myself, but I thought to ask someone else, and their writing was really funny/interesting. He would watch television, and get ideas for writing. He did that for six months. When everyone else was stuck, he'd put us all in a good mood.
:Was there a really hard thing to work on?
:By far, it was the difficulty level adjusting. We took the difficulty system from House of the Dead 2, but customized it. For beginners, the words would not exceed a certain length. When the screen stops and the timing of the enemies was considered. In House of the Dead 2, you can take out enemies with a single gun shot, but you always have to type out a full word in this game, so with that in mind, we had to consider when the zombies appear, how long they are in frame, and word length. After all that, great typists can still beat the game in one credit, and beginners still died in the fist stage. It really felt like we should make the beginners play a little longer.
:The Dreamcast version as a lot of modes.
:The first job is supporting the beginner players. Drill Mode exists, which beginner players can use to practive while skilled players can improve their scores. All the drills are designed this way. We want both beginner and skilled players to have fun playing in a variety of ways.
:Were there any particular struggles with making the Dreamcast version?
:We didn't have much time. We wanted to include a two-player battle minigame, but didn't have the time. But we did reach the goals we originally had from the start, so I still felt satisfied in the end.
:It's pretty complete, isn't it?
:I made it as perfect as possible. I didn't want something I'd be embarrassed of. Call it the ultimate typing game. I wouldn't want to make another typing game if someone asked haha. The base of House of the Dead 2 made this possible. With House of the Dead 2 as the source material, all I did was add cooked rice. If you have the best sashimi, you can make great sushi.
:Finally, a message to the readers.
:I think the coolest things about this game is that you can enjoy it with lots of people in a group setting. We made funny words so people watching can laugh too. For single players, we want you to practice and show off your skills. Typing is pretty cool isn't it? You'd be able to do a typing job haha. It would be great to hear about people who get better with typing from this game.

::Thank you! Pretty much what I already saw from the other translations, but I feel a lot better getting a proper translation instead of one from AI. The bit at the end with the cooked rice analogy never came up in any of the AI translations (at least from what I could remember). Famous Hobo (talk) 00:33, 21 April 2026 (UTC)

Idea for best video game article

Regarding the list of video games considered the best article. I have a idea that could improve the structure of the page in a way that i think will be beneficial for editors & readers & i was wondering if you'd agree.

My idea was a article formatted with a table listing a chronological order of best game of all time lists, followed by the game that ranked #1 & #2

For example of the format
- Year / Publication / #1 Game / #2 Game / Source

How it would work is it would be sorted in chronological order.

This would give people a chronological history of what was considered the best game / games of all time.

If you have interest in such a project i would be happy to help you in anyway i can & i'm also interested in if there's a page that shows what sources are allowed. Never17 (talk) 05:17, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
