Links to draft articles

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Please do not introduce links ↗ to draft ↗ articles in actual articles, as you did to :Fellsmere, Florida ↗. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style ↗. {{#ifeq:{{lc:}}|yes|An edit has converted these links, into links to the not-currently-existing page (redlinks) where the draft will be placed if it is eventually accepted. 25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello, I'm Fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source ↗. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation ↗ and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners ↗. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. :Ok. I did not realize that was an non credible source. Also the plaque, that sentence is unnecessary. Thanks. WeatheredAviation (talk) 15:50, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
::Its not just credibility. The plaque was not mentioned in the source at all as far as I could tell. Same for the {{tq|"main transit terminal"}} claim, its absent from the accompanying source. fifteen&nbsp;thousand&nbsp;two&nbsp;hundred&nbsp;twenty&nbsp;four ↗&nbsp;(talk) 15:54, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
:::It does mention the transit hub, as stated, it was relocated to its current location. It says explicitly in the article. WeatheredAviation (talk) 16:03, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
::::The citation that accompanied {{tq|"It is also home to the main transit terminal."}} is here ↗ the modern page makes no reference to that information, nor does it contain any of "vera", "main", "transit", or "terminal". The archived version from 2017 here ↗ does not mention Vera Beach, only Indian River County of which Vera Beach is but a part. Please let me know if I've confused anything and I'll do my best to correct it. fifteen&nbsp;thousand&nbsp;two&nbsp;hundred&nbsp;twenty&nbsp;four ↗&nbsp;(talk) 16:15, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::Seriously… I visited there and the transit hub is in fact in Vero Beach. You do not need to get picky. On google maps you could look up where the IRC Go Line main transit hub is. The vero beach city limits literally include the hub. Fine, I can add a new source for goodness sake. WeatheredAviation (talk) 17:23, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
::::::Its not that I don't believe you, I do! But a core policy of Wikipedia is verifiability ↗, which necessitates the use of reliable sources ↗, personal knowledge and experience is original research ↗ and does not meet the bar for verifiability. Thank you. fifteen&nbsp;thousand&nbsp;two&nbsp;hundred&nbsp;twenty&nbsp;four ↗&nbsp;(talk) 17:32, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::::Okay thats fine then. Thank you for implementing this policy. WeatheredAviation (talk) 17:39, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

Highway abbreviations

Regarding this edit ↗, please revert yourself and restore the abbreviation to the text.

It is standard practice in highway articles to introduce the abbreviation for a highway name after first usage of the full name. We cannot and do not assume that our readers know that "State Road 607" = "SR 607". The abbreviation is in use in the junction list, so we need to introduce that convention to our readers. It's also standard to only introduce the convention once on first mention of any highway of the same class. By that, I mean we only have to spell out "Interstate 95 (I-95)" once on the first mention of any Interstate, so if in the next sentence we can have just "I-75" without needing to spell out "Interstate 75". First mention of any US Highway or state road? Spell out the name in full and follow it with the abbreviation, then you're free to abbreviate all other US Highways or state roads. If the article is about a county road, you only have to mention the abbreviation in the lead sentence and not for any other county road but he same principle. (Also, please note that per MOS:BOLD ↗, we wrap the full name in bold in the lead sentence, and we wrap the abbreviation in bold, but not the parentheses. It's a fussy thing, but the correct thing to do.) <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 14:40, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

:Thank you for explaining to me how the system works. I was a bit confused at first. Given your experience, I am thankful for your contributions to my articles so they can be put up to pristine standard. Thanks again. WeatheredAviation (talk) 15:58, 14 May 2025 (UTC)

Creating new county road articles

You've been creating new articles on county roads in Indian River County, Florida. Most of these topics have a redirect that currently exists at the correct title name. You've instead been creating new articles at incorrect titles. Instead, you should edit the redirect to replace it with your new article.

For example, instead of creating County Road 505 (Indian River County, FL) ↗, you should go to County Road 505 (Indian River County, Florida) ↗. That link will redirect you to List of county roads in Indian River County, Florida#CR 505 ↗, but then if you scroll up to the top of that article, you'd see the notice: "(Redirected from County Road 505 (Indian River County, Florida) ↗)". Click the link there and then edit the redirect to start writing.

{{tl|Jct}} and and various other templates ''will not'' link to non-standard titles. They will expect the title to be of the proper form to link to the correct topic. Creating articles at the wrong titles also means they'll be an orphan. Creating them at the wrong titles means that someone else needs to come behind you to tag the redirects for deletion so that the articles can be moved to the correct titles. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 05:31, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

:How can I assist you best to create new articles at the proper titles? <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 20:49, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
::Well, it will not let me create the article. However, if I have an improper name but then move it, that works. Often, there are random spaces with redirects that are impossible to find. WeatheredAviation (talk) 20:51, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
:::I understand now. WeatheredAviation (talk) 20:52, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
:::Every one of these county roads in Indian River County has a redirect in place. Most of them point to List of county roads in Indian River County, Florida ↗, so that the links created by {{tl|jct}} in a junction list point somewhere. Unless the county adds a brand new designation that has never existed, you won't be able to create a new article at the correct title.
:::You ''can'' edit the redirects and turn then into articles one by one. In the case of CR 615, there's an old version of an article in the history of that redirect, and really that history should be preserved. Creating them at non-standard titles is making more work for other people to try to clean up your work.
:::So again, how can I help you to do things right the first time and be more self-sufficient? <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 21:08, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
::::So I do have a question. Should I add this article to the redirect page? There is a request for speedy deletion made on it. WeatheredAviation (talk) 21:13, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::Yes and no. I tagged the redirect for deletion, so we should wait for an admin to act on the request. I'd like to find one who will merge the history of the two pages together in the end, which is the best outcome.
:::::Your next article though, please just make an edit on a redirect to start the article so we preserve everything properly. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 21:23, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
::::::Ok. So we just wait? WeatheredAviation (talk) 21:26, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
:Here's another tip that will help you. Whenever you use {{tl|jct}} to link to a county road, please remember to include which county it is in with {{para|county1|Indian River}}. (The number in the parameter name refers to the order in which it appears, like how {{para|to1}} and {{para|to2}} work.) If there are two county roads in the same template, each needs to be defined. Then the link will point to the right place. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 18:11, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

Headings

You may not know this already. When we create a heading in an article, our Manual of Style says at MOS:HEAD ↗ that the heading text should be in sentence case ↗, not title case ↗. This means that of the standard headings we use on road articles, the one should be "Route description" with a lower case "d" on "description", not a capital letter there. It also means that the other standard heading should be "Major intersections" should not have a capital letter on "intersections".

You can also consult WP:USRD/STDS ↗ for other standards on writing and formatting highway articles for the US. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 20:58, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

:Thanks! WeatheredAviation (talk) 21:07, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Article

https://www.tcpalm.com/story/opinion/columnists/laurence-reisman/2025/04/10/time-to-tell-indian-river-county-what-main-road-needs-are/82787873007/ in the CR 615 article is an unhelpful source/link to use. It requires a reader to be a subscriber, so it really needs {{para|url-access|subscription}} added to the citation template, and someone who does subscribe needs to replace the details in the citation (author, date, title, etc.). <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 22:47, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Florida State Road 60 in Indian River County

I redirected that article to Florida State Road 60 ↗. We just do not write articles like that. The reason we created state-level sub articles of Interstate or US Highways is that for several of them, they are so long that we can't write about them in much detail without running into the limits from WP:SIZE ↗. We have a general principle that we only create those sub articles if the highway passes through three or more states (the "three-state rule"), but we also state that three states does not guarantee sub articles. For that point, see U.S. Route 8 ↗.

There has never been an analogous concept for state highways because they're just not going to be long enough to warrant splitting out sub articles. So, there is no "three-county rule" at all. The article on SR 60 can comfortably contain all of the content we expect there and a route description can be written at an appropriate level of detail without exceeding our size limitations. There is just no notability to a subsection of a state highway, unlike the segment of an Interstate or US Highway within one state, which at least has a different maintaining agency. This is then unlike a state highway segment in a single county, which does does not have a different agency from the segment in another county. <span style="background:#006B54; padding:2px;">'''<span style="color:white;">Imzadi&nbsp;1979</span>&nbsp;<span style="color:white;"><big>→</big></span>'''</span> 04:57, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

Jeanne in Florida

Hi there, sorry about Columbia merging the Jeanne sub-article, that was my fault. I was encouraging Columbia to work on Jeanne. I didn't even realize there was an article for Jeanne's effects in the Treasure Coast, since it wasn't linked in the Florida sub-section. Furthermore, considering how short the Jeanne article is (and how much of the impacts were also in the state), and how much overlap there was between the Treasure Coast and the main section, I didn't even suggest doing a proper merger. Apologies for that. But thank you for your work on Jeanne. There has been a push in recent years to not have as many sub-articles, especially when the main articles are incomplete. That's partly why I suggested merging the content. ♫ Hurricanehink (<small>talk ↗</small>) 14:28, 7 September 2025 (UTC)

:However, keep in mind that the information on Jeanne’s effects in the Treasure Coast were barely included yet the storm caused more than $3 billion in damage and left a permanent mark on the area, as many sources state. I still think that these articles are necessary despite a “push” for them to be removed because they go more in-depth on what happened in certain areas. WeatheredAviation (talk) 14:55, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
::True, but $3 billion can easily be summarized and included in the main article. The main Florida section has a lot of list-like pieces of information without being particularly useful, such as having damage totals for several counties, but not many examples of damage. ♫ Hurricanehink (<small>talk ↗</small>) 15:15, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
:::I understand you want to improve the main article. However, removing important information is not the solution. Also, the Hurricane Jeanne section on Florida is large, and barely mentions the areas hardest hit, instead focusing on other areas in the state. This is why I made the sub article. I think it would be a good idea to merge Effects of Hurricane Jeanne in the Treasure Coast with Effects of Hurricane Frances in the Treasure Coast. That is the most clear solution here. By “improving” the main articles you mean you want to just add more general information onto them. WeatheredAviation (talk) 15:19, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
::::Parts of the article ↗ were merged, but I agree that removing information isn't the solution, which is why I reverted the merger for now. I still think all of the information could be fit into the Jeanne article, as there is little information in the Treasure Coast article that wasn't in the Jeanne article, and I think it could still all be merged. And yes, I think the best way to "improve" retired storm articles it that they be as thorough as they can. You're right that the article barely mentioned the areas hardest hit, but just making a sub-article might not be the solution, since a lot of sub-articles end up incomplete, with broken links, or barely adding anything to the main article. If you think it would be best to merge Jeanne and Frances's effects articles, then I suggest starting with a draft, as neither effects article is anywhere close to being complete right now. ♫ Hurricanehink (<small>talk ↗</small>) 15:25, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
:::::Exactly. I think that is perfectly the solution because merging the Frances and Jeanne Treasure Coast articles combines the information to make a complete article. I will try hard to make it work. WeatheredAviation (talk) 15:32, 7 September 2025 (UTC)

Just checking if you want to make the draft for the combined Frances/Jeanne sub-article in Florida. You wondered why the focus on merging, but that's pretty common when a sub-article is incomplete, and the main article is also incomplete. That's why drafts are useful to get everything together until you are done. ♫ Hurricanehink (<small>talk ↗</small>) 16:12, 7 September 2025 (UTC)

:Ok so is there a way we could both edit this draft? WeatheredAviation (talk) 16:13, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
::Yup, just make it at Draft:Effects of hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in Florida ↗, anyone will be able to edit that. ♫ Hurricanehink (<small>talk ↗</small>) 16:21, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
:::Glad to see there's already work on this, I was reviewing ↗ Effects of Hurricane Jeanne in the Treasure Coast ↗ and was going to leave a message here to recommend the author swaps "Treasure Coast" with "Florida" in the title because "Treasure Coast" is just too specific when the hurricane also affected other areas such as the Space Coast ↗, inland Central Florida ↗, and South Florida ↗. A separate page for one coast would be highly unusual and would only make sense if 1) a page about the effects in Florida already existed & 2) said page is long enough that a WP:SPLIT ↗ for one particular region of Florida would be justified. I personally think it's still a little unusual to create 1 page about the effects of ''two different'' hurricanes in the same state, but I haven't been active at WPTC in a while so maybe it's not as odd as I think it is. <b style="font-family:Trebuchet MS"><b style="background-color:#07d;color:#FFF">&nbsp;Vanilla </b><b style="background-color:#749;color:#FFF">&nbsp;Wizard </b> ↗</b> 💙 ↗ 15:05, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

Hey just checking if you’re still working on Jeanne/Frances’ effects in Florida? The Treasure Coast article will likely be merged soon by the way. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 14:45, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
