Baritone and euphonium
Hi, now that euphonium ↗ and tenor horn ↗ are at GA, I've been working on tuba ↗ and baritone horn ↗. Rather than discussing the American "baritone" nomenclature question on the euphonium page, I was thinking we could somehow cover it on the baritone horn page instead. Once we have something decent, I think it's otherwise more or less ready for a WP:GAN ↗. What do you think? — Jonathanischoice (talk) 06:52, 9 February 2026 (UTC)
:@Jonathanischoice: I was just thinking of the baritone page earlier today. I was reading through ''The Technique of Orchestration'' by Kent Kennan and Donald Grantham where they say... {{tq|But even this distinction does not always apply, and it is, in fact, difficult to cite any consistent difference between the two instruments. Consequently their names have become practically synonymous today.}} Both are older American composers, and obviously this is not the case today.
:I have been trying to find some sources that give some better overviews between the history between the instruments in American music, but it has been a bit of a challenge. There is this treatise by Earle Louder ↗: ''An Historical Lineage of the Modern Baritone Horn and Euphonium ↗''; and this dissertation of the evolution of the instruments in school band: ''The Euphonium: Its History, Literature, and use in American Schools ↗'' Why? Re: Request to help in the review of Draft:Pietro Deiro Presents the Accordion Orchestra ↗ and the creation of a new page.
Hello Why? I Ask: I was glad to learn of your interest in Classical Music ↗ and your participation in the review of new drafts for the Classical Music Project. Perhaps you could assist with the review of Draft:Pietro Deiro Presents the Accordion Orchestra ↗? It has been submitted several times and I have recently completed a new update to the submission, but it has not received attention from a reviewer even though most of the objections appear to have been resolved. The article describes and documents noteworthy and historic performances of classical music ↗ compositions by one of the very few modern symphonic orchestra ↗s in the USA (during the mid 20th Century) consisting entirely of customized accordions on a major record label. It features orchestral performances by several leading jazz and classical music accordionists of that era including''': Carmen Carrozza ↗, Angelo Di Pippo, Charles Magnante ↗, John Serry ↗ and Joe Biviano (the "father of the accordion symphony movement in the United States") which '''helped to establish the young accordion ↗ as a legitimate orchestral instrument''' in the USA,<ref name="Jacobson">{{Cite web|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=bPhXe_qNy5QC&dq=Accordeon+Orchestra+joe+Biviano&pg=PA78|title=Squeeze This!: A Cultural History of the Accordion in America|first=Marion|last=Jacobson|date=Mar 15, 2012|publisher=University of Illinois Press|accessdate=Jan 21, 2026|via=Google Books}}</ref> and is listed on the Discography of American Historical Recordings ↗ (DAHR) database.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/objects/detail/357199/Coral_CRL7-57323_LP |title=Coral CRL(7)-57323 (12-in. 33-1/3-rpm long-playing)|website=Adp.library.ucsb.edu|access-date=January 20, 2026}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/mastertalent/detail/324141/Jose_Biviano_Accordion_Orchestra|title=Joe Biviano Accordion Orchestra|website=Adp.library.ucsb.edu|access-date=January 20, 2026}}</ref> These performances ere also critically reviewed in ''The Billboard (magazine) ↗'',"<ref name="Billboard">{{Cite web|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=hR8EAAAAMBAJ&dq=Pietro+Deiro+Presents+the+Accordion+Orchestra&pg=PA33|title=Billboard|page=33|date=June 27, 1960|publisher=Nielsen Business Media, Inc.|access-date=January 28, 2025|via=Google Books}}</ref> ''High Fidelity (magazine) ↗''<ref>''High Fidelity'', Roland Gellot Ed. Feel free to make any additional deletions or modifications which you might deem necessary, or even just join the discussion about the current review of the article. The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps.
I wrote a draft for the Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps but it keeps getting denied thrythe articles of creation. Would you mind taking a look at it.
Draft:The Battalion Drum and Bugle Corps ↗ Rickypriv (talk) 18:45, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
:@Rickypriv: Right now, the article has zero sources. This means we can not accept the article. Try looking for sources in local newspapers, such as through Newspapers.com, and try to get at least 4 good sources. Why? I Ask (talk) 18:47, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
::I was able to add a couple of sources Rickypriv (talk) 19:13, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
:::@Rickypriv: The ''Pipestone County Star'' is the only quality source of the bunch. An announcement of sponsorship in ''Percussive Notes'' and news from Drum Corps International (which teeters on a primary source) do not count as siginificant coverage ↗ per Wikipedia guidelines. You can still ''use'' those sources; but a reviewer would likely not consider them strong enough to approve the page. Why? I Ask (talk) 19:19, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
::::Im not able to find some other quality sources. Also im not sure how to make it look like all the other drum corps wiki like the show summery. Rickypriv (talk) 21:43, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
Infobox ranges
Hi, could I ask you for a little patience (and perhaps your assistance by commenting on the thread) to get the LilyPond SVG ticket T49578 ↗ across the line? It's perhaps the longer-term strategy rather than replacing all the LilyPond code with images in the Infoboxes. — Jonathanischoice (talk) 12:34, 24 March 2026 (UTC)
:@Why? I Ask - Hi again, by way of an update, the LilyPond Score extension now renders everything as SVG (finally!) which is a huge upgrade in quality, particularly on the mobile app and browsers on mobile devices. Take a look around, e.g. the orchestral excerpts and other snippets on the tuba ↗ article — Jonathanischoice (talk) 06:35, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
Please bring back edited information for Garo Tavitjan
Garo Tavitjan is artist of national interest, and his page was equally edited by example of many other articles on Wikipedia.

:@David Garryson: Can you be clearer in what you mean? What do you mean by federal case? And if you are writing on behalf of an organization, you must state as such per WP:DISCLOSE ↗. Why? I Ask (talk) 17:08, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
:Many articles contain exactly as much data as the article on Garo Tavitjan. What is the reason that you specifically have animosity toward that article and not toward the others that we could send to your provided email address, where official representatives would also reach out?
:Our proposal is to de-escalate the situation and allow the article to remain, as it does not violate Wikipedia's policies, just as many other comprehensive and lengthy articles do not violate the policies.
:If you wish, we can provide you with many other articles that contain thousands of details about someone's career and countless statistical data.
:We would like you to help us have this accepted. David Garryson (talk) 17:21, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
::Can you provide some examples of other pages with the same information? Regardless, a list of ''all'' concerts, interviews, appearances, etc. falls under the banner of WP:EXHAUSTIVE ↗ and is to be avoided when writing a page. Marching Royal Dukes image
Greetings, User Why? I Ask: In the edit summary of your revert of my caption alteration of the above image at the Marching Royal Dukes ↗ page you appear to possess specific knowledge of the event pictured. Some "Parade of Champions".
Great.
If this is so, please add it to the ''image description'' for that image, as it will help other users better understand what's going on in it (and prevent misunderstandings that drive good faith edits awry). As on face it does not make sense as a "performance" (which the average user is going to associate a ''marching band'' with - a sports contest, mainly college football games, for which such vaunted triple-digit member bands are famous), since the stadium is completely empty (but for the comparatively small swath of audience facing the band) and there is absolutely no "anchoring" sports contest going on. (As the field and its sidelines are completely empty but for the band: there are no benches, medical tables, Gatorade jugs, and all the other telltales of a competition at halftime.)
Plus, the time signature of the image makes no sense (on face), as the metadata for it indicates it was taken at 22:23, 21 October 2017, ''10:30'' on a Saturday night. Which is pretty late for a comparative handful of folks to be watching a marching band in an otherwise empty stadium. With the image captured by a then new Samsung Galaxy 8 (that had first become available in late April of that year). Which in theory would have the right time (being a smartphone, and not a freestanding camera that often could have its time setting thrown off by comparatively frequent battery changes and their corresponding balky manual time signature resets). So, either the photographer (''Datalore47'', who has no user page) had their phone set a couple of timezones off or people really were watching that performance at that late hour.
In any case, since you seem to know ''what'' the event was, perhaps you know enough about it to add additional content to the image description here ↗ that can help broaden users' understanding of what is depicted in it. Including the actual hour span of the event. As that kind of clarifying data is what the image description field is there for.
Thanks in advance. Best, user ~2026-15788-89 ↗ (talk) 12:29, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
:@~2026-15788-89: You do realize that marching bands aren't beholden to football teams, correct? You did so much weird logical bending—with phone timestamps and water coolers—when all you could have done is Google "Marching Royal Dukes" "October 2017" and found this ↗ like I did. It is for the band competition James Madison runs. Why? I Ask (talk) 17:22, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
::Geeze. You don't have to get snippy. Historically, marching bands were best known for football...no doubt about it. It was their raison d' etre...on the scale we're talking about here. And the image's image description is "MRDs preparing for half time show on Zane-Showker Field".
::All I asked was if you knew more about that event to add it to the image's details, for ''all'' to benefit from. ~2026-15788-89 ↗ (talk) 17:49, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
::And, no, I did not do any "weird logical bending" - It's a football stadium, effectively EMPTY, at 10:30 at night...without any sign of there having ever been any game. Obviously on face none of that adds up. Doing some quick detective work via the link you offered just makes things more confusing before they become less, as the ''Parade of Champions'' is a competition of ''high school bands'', not college. Turns out the Marching Dukes play at the start and finish. Which obviously finishes late. Absolutely none of this is clear, or even intimated, on face. ~2026-15788-89 ↗ (talk) 18:00, 23 May 2026 (UTC)
