Democratic-only elections

Sure, the early-to-mid-20th-century South Carolina U.S. Senate elections were just foregone conclusions, based on the Democratic primaries, but I think the infoboxes for the primaries should be kept in that section. —GoldRingChip 21:03, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
:@GoldRingChip: That doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. Why not put the infobox for all elections in the "results" section then? Because the purpose of an infobox is to briefly tell the story of the election; those infoboxes do that. Keep them in the introduction to summarize the article. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 21:29, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
:: Because then shouldn't we use an infobox for the general? —GoldRingChip 01:05, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
:::@GoldRingChip: No, because a 99%–1% uncompetitive landslide or unopposed race doesn't "tell the story of the election." –-A-M-B-1996- (talk) 01:09, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
:::: That's a good point. Then go ahead and change them back. —GoldRingChip 01:12, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Harry Harper

Thank you for starting on the expansion of Harry Harper ↗ last week. I had that article on my watchlist and finished getting the article to a five-fold expansion. I've nominated the article for WP:DYK ↗. See the nomination at Template:Did you know nominations/Harry Harper ↗ and propose any hook changes that you like. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:47, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Lloyd George

Re: this edit ↗. Lloyd George was NOT admitted to the bar. He was a solicitor not a barrister. DuncanHill (talk) 01:34, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
:{{Ping|User:DuncanHill}} Apologies and thank you for the correction. An Americanism slipping in, I'm afraid. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 01:35, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

Good work

Seeing that you made convention maps for the republican primary articles, and I just want to say that that's a great addition. Keep up the good work. GeorgeBailey (talk) 23:00, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
:{{Ping|User:GeorgeBailey}} Thanks very much! I'm hopeful that they (and the Democratic equivalents) can provide more comprehensive stories of the nomination process before the McGovern reforms. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 01:39, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Where exactly was William Brinkerhoff the mayor?

Thanks for taking the time to create an article for a notable from an era that is clearly under-represented on Wikipedia.

I'm going through the article for William Brinkerhoff ↗ and was going to update the article for Bergen City, New Jersey ↗, to reflect that Brinkerhoff had served as mayor. The Bergen City article says that it was annexed to Jersey City in 1874. Scannell says he became mayor of Bergen City at the age of 28, which would be 1874 by my math and not 1871 as listed in the article, but neither 1871 nor 1874 make sense give the history. The obituary in the Times says that he was mayor of the Township of Bergen, but neither Bergen Township, New Jersey (1661–1862) ↗ nor Bergen Township, New Jersey (1893–1902) ↗ fit those dates.

So my question is, where exactly was William Brinkerhoff the mayor? Any thoughts? Alansohn (talk) 18:47, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

:Digging deeper, I found this article from 1869 ↗, which says that "Mr. Brinkerhoff is a rising young lawyer, and has given good evidence of his ability in his profession. He was chosen a member of the Council of Bergen, and on organization, elected President of the Board, and afterwards became Mayor of the city on account of the resignation of Mr. Hilton." So maybe it was Bergen City after all, but the dates and ages are wrong in Scannell. Alansohn (talk) 19:00, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
::@Alansohn: Many thanks on this and your work on New Jersey generally. Both the Scannell biographies and the New York Times obituaries I've been using are sometimes off, but the confusion here is from my error; I mistyped the birth date in the first line of the article, but the infobox and Early life sections are correct (per both sources): he was born in 1843, not 1846. By my math, the dates line up with a mayoralty of 1871 per Scannell. Will work on further improvements with contemporary sourcing, though an initial search of public newspaper archives was fruitless. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 17:39, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
:::A year of birth of 1843 makes the dates line up far batter. I also had no luck finding further details, which may be a limitation of the publications included in the archives we're searching. I'm not giving up yet. Thanks again for creating the article and for all of your work. Alansohn (talk) 02:29, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
::::@Alansohn: I've updated with some more detailed information from the MacLean history of Jersey City, which gives a specific date of 1868-69 and goes into detail on Brinkerhoff's role in the consolidation of the city with Jersey City. This might be a useful source if you're looking for information on other politicians from Hudson County during the period; it has more biographies than Scannell and a detailed accounting of the pre-1895 history of the city. Cheers! -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 16:32, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::Thanks for all the work you've done! MacLean is a source I had never seen before and it will certainly come in handy in the future. Kudos. Alansohn (talk) 03:28, 24 December 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for Oliver Huff Brown

Thanks for the article you created for Oliver Huff Brown ↗. I noticed that there appear to be what look like references in the rendered article, but are just numbers in brackets listed with superscripts. Any idea of what this is? May I also point you to this article ↗ published in the ''Asbury Park Press ↗'' in 1971, which is a great summary of his life.

Thanks again for all of your work! Alansohn (talk) 16:04, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

:@Alansohn: Thank you! Apologies, I was subject to an open proxy block which I just got exemption from. That cite was intended to just be the other half of the obituary, and it's fixed. I'm going to work in the APP article now. Thank you again. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 02:11, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
::Glad to have you back. Glad that you're on the issue. Alansohn (talk) 02:19, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Broken reference

On 30 April you created the page 1976 United States House of Representatives elections in New Jersey ↗ and one of the references that you included was defined name=":24". This reference was never defined, do you know the source that it was meant to be? Thanks Freddieh9 (talk) 11:34, 7 May 2026 (UTC)

:@Freddieh9: Thanks for flagging. Not sure how the cite broke, but it was a citation to the source used for the same information in the following section. I've merged the ref names to solve the issue. -A-M-B-1996- (talk) 12:41, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
