Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Re: Space pirate ↗ article

Hi, I undid your merge as I disagree that List of space pirates ↗ should be merged. it should more likely be deleted for being non-notable listcruft. If you believe Space pirate ↗ is non-notable on its own, please initiate an AfD. The discussion that happened in 2014 was extremely slight.<small>ZXCVBNM (TALK ↗)</small> 12:54, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

One article is a stub with only two citations, and the other is a list. One decent article could be created by merging the two together under a new title such as space piracy ↗.

Well, 53zodiac, if you believe that, then there should be a discussion on the List of space pirates ↗ and Space pirate ↗ talk pages. I'll see if I can find anything to increase the size of the space pirates page and find some sources for those on the space pirates list. --Historyday01 (talk) 15:37, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Braves (Native Americans)

Hello,
I've responded to you on both the talk page of the article, and also at the talkpage of the Wikiproject https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Indigenous_peoples_of_North_America#Braves_(Native_Americans) ↗. The latter is probably the more constructive response, so do please read that before deciding what to do. It's clear there was a consensus among editors (including Native American editors, whose voices should be prioritised in these discussions) that an article that assumes a commonality of warrior traditions among all the Indigenous peoples of the USA was inaccurate, hence the redirect. However, it's also very clear that you and other editors put in a hell of a lot of work building up a well sourced article. My suggestion is to retain that info, but put it in a more accurately titled article. if you took that material and combined it with what is already in the Plains Indians ↗ article under "warfare," you'd have an excellent stand-along article on Plains Indians warfare ↗ or some such, which could then be linked to from the main Plains Indians ↗ articles and the host of articles around the American Indian Wars ↗. If you agree, then I'll help out with the move. That way we avoid a fruitless edit war, etc. Does this sound good to you?Vizjim (talk) 06:53, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

That sounds good to me Vizjim. Plains Indian Warfare is a much better title. 53zodiac (talk) 17:17, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

:Great! I have work commitments today but will try to get to this tomorrow. Do you want to start the article? Vizjim (talk) 05:41, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

OK. I've written a very basic article, but feel free to make changes to it 53zodiac (talk) 17:35, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
:The use of Native American seems odd (Plains Native American Warfare ↗) because they were not Americans and were fighting against the US government forces. Maybe you should use something like Indigenous. <span style="color: #e0e0e0; font-family: georgia; background-color:#785673; letter-spacing: 1px;">&nbsp;oncamera&nbsp;</span> ''<span style="color: #ad0076; font-family: georgia;">(talk page)</span> ↗'' 18:58, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

::How about Warfare traditions among Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies ↗? Would need a few redirects to be created, but that would seem to cover all the bases.Vizjim (talk) 20:02, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
:::I moved the page to Plains Indians Warfare ↗ (although I should have uncapitalized warfare) since its main article is Plains Indians ↗ and figure they should match. If we are going to change it to that title, perhaps Plains Indians should be moved too to Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies ↗. <span style="color: #e0e0e0; font-family: georgia; background-color:#785673; letter-spacing: 1px;">&nbsp;oncamera&nbsp;</span> ''<span style="color: #ad0076; font-family: georgia;">(talk page)</span> ↗'' 21:39, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
::::If you look at the move discussions, there has been more than one attempt to make that move happen for the PI article. However, there are considerably more Indigenous (and ally) editors on WP nowadays, so maybe another attempt should be made?Vizjim (talk) 07:35, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on :Countrycore ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion ↗, such as at Articles for deletion ↗. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the {{Querylink|Special:Log|qs=type=delete&page=Countrycore|deleting administrator}}, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here ↗. <!-- Template:Db-repost-notice --><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> FMSky (talk) 22:25, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions to 4th Galician Uhlans (Emperor's) ↗. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because '''it needs more sources to establish notability''' and '''please provide enough information in your footnotes so as to meet WP:VERIFY ↗. To see what needs to be included in footnotes, please refer to WP:CITE ↗. It also needs more sourcing so as to satisfy WP:VERIFY ↗.'''.
I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page ↗.
When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. {{divbox|blue|3=This is an excellent start, an an extremely interesting article, unfortunately… it does not yet have sufficient reliable independent secondary sources to achieve notability under the Wikipedia framework. Many of the sources so far are either primary sources, or else from blogs, which, while they are interesting, and seem plausible, do not count as reliable for Wikipedia. My suggestion is that you drill down through some of the references that the current sources have, I especially think the Osprey source is a likely one. On top of that, maybe try to find some academic sources… just two or three solid academic sources will be enough to allow the article to be accepted. 4th Galician Uhlans (Emperor's)

Hi there, for some reason or another your message on my talk page wasn’t formatted to allow me to hit a reply button… not sure why… so came here to reply. You wrote -

'''“I disagree with your reasons for declining the article. Currently, it already has three academic sources: Thomas Mocharitsh's diploma thesis on Ruthenian military terminology, Evan Samborowski's paper on Galician military units, and Alexei Lithavorik's Russian language research on Austro-Hungarian units on the Eastern Front. I can't find many in-depth sources online, even in German, but my plan was to add more to the article when they became available”'''

Ok, so, clicking on your article at first, I thought it would be an obvious easy accept. It has some formatting issues, and is a bit sprawling, but is the kind of military formation article that is usually a no-brainer… however… I had real trouble once I started going through the actual references. I am not at all trying to be unkind when I say, they are kind of a mess. There are various line citations, then a list of other possible sources? Are they supposed to be the works listed in the citations? It seems unlikely, as they don’t match. Are they like an “extra reading list”? Great if so, but then I can’t tell without fully reading them whether they are useful / on point for specific points or not. If we take it citation by citation…

1 - Grwar Rumyantsev austro hungarian army ↗ - takes me to a kind of random looking Russian website. It’s fine that it’s in Russian, and it’s fine that it has super simple formatting, but… who is ''Alexey Likhotvorik?'' The writer of this article? If so, who is Grwar Rumyantsev? Another author? Are either of them actual historians, or is this a blog of some sort? Which claim specifically is the line citation supporting? That the regiment was a cavalry unit? That it was in the Joint Army within the Austro-Hungarian Land Forces from 1813-1918? Or that it was affiliated with the Austrian Landwehr ↗? Or all three? Also, where in the document is it? Using “find on page” with “Uhlan” gives me several hits, but none for the 4th?

2 - Galician Military Units of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire - takes me to a blog, which is super interesting, but which doesn’t count as “reliable” for Wikipedia unless the author is an accredited academic, which she appears not to be.

3 - a masters thesis byThomas Mocharitsch, Ruthenian military terminology in the Hapsburg monarchy (University of Vienna 2010) ↗ - which… a lot of people wouldn’t count because it’s not actually published in a peer reviewed journal, but I’m actually more lenient than most - I think unpublished thesis SHOULD count. However… the line citation given has no specific page cited. That means I have to read the whole thing maybe. I go to the table of contents… it seems like the most likely section to find the information is pages 25-27. Check those pages. Nothing directly about the regiment. Use “find in page” nothing for either Uhlan, Kaiser, or 4th. Which leads me to assume it’s maybe not in there? At any rate, if I can’t find it, I can’t use it to support notability.

4 - The Napoleon Series ↗ - Takes me to the first source which actually seems to directly address the regiment itself, 18 very short lines. More or less a passing mention. But, assuming this is enough of a mention to count for notability (honestly, 9 out of 10 editors on here would say no. *I* actually say “yes, just”. However… who is Istavan Nagy? Clicking his name gets me nowhere. Googling the name, gets me the Hungarian Agriculture Minster, a painter who died in the 1930s, and a random NZ immigrant using a spinning wheel. No help. Is he an academic? Seems not to be, or at least I can’t prove it either way. The Napoleon Series itself? Is it legit? A blog site? Honestly hard to tell, but at any rate, doesn’t help me with the authorship of the article, so I can’t accept it as a reliable source without knowing more about the author.

5 - random website. Honestly not sure who or where? Dutch? Either way, can’t prove reliability.

6 - A published book! Now we are getting somewhere, this definitely counts as independent, reliable, and secondary. Ah, it’s a books about Maria Annunziata (1876-1961), the niece of Emperor Franz Joseph I… which isn’t promising as a source for a military regiment. The claim the line citation is supporting is “In 1884 the young Archduke Ferdinand Karl of Austria ↗ was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the 4th Ulan regiment.” Ok, that seems like the sort of thing that might be mentioned in a book about a princess. Ah… it doesn’t let me search inside. Well, that doesn’t help, but I will take it in faith that you’re telling the truth about it being in there, and accurately saying that. We always assume good faith after all. Is it likely to be a mention in passing though, or a substantial piece of writing about the regiment, enough to count for establishing notability? Difficult to tell. And no page number in the citation that might help me look elsewhere and check. Call this one a maaaaybe though - the first maybe we have so far…

Etc. as I went through the rest, it was all this kind of thing. And that’s a problem if I’m going to manage to get enough proof for notability. I would have LOVED to pass this article, it’s about a time period I love, and an empire I’m interesting in and want to learn more about. I absolutely think that it should be in Wikipedia if it can be knocked into shape. As it is though, I just couldn’t pass it.

So, here are my suggestions. Work backwards. Find a whole lot of sources which as Independent, Reliable, Secondary sources, and which talk directly about the 4th Uhlans for more than 5-10 lines. Go through those sections in the sources, as find specific factual points that they cover, and write them all down. Then, link all those sources together, citing them with line citations as you go, and making it easy for reviewers to find the specific information in those sources (by citing page numbers if possible). Then, once you’ve done all that, re-submit the article, and see how you go. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it in the queue, because it’s a topic that really interests me, of nothing else.

I’m not trying to put you off, I would LOVE for you to succeed, and to keep editing Wikipedia and coming up with other interesting articles like this, that will add to Wikipedia as a whole. I really hope you hang in there and keep up the hard work. One thing I think might help is if you search for other articles of a similar type, and do some small edits on them - researching to add extra facts of sources, to help improve them. That might help give you a feel of what you need for the articles that you will write.

good luck 👍 Absurdum4242 (talk) 07:58, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

:The sources at the bottom of the page are from the original article on the German language wikipedia.
:Grwar is an abbreviation of great war. Aleksey Likhotvorik is the writer of the article and the owner of the website. You're looking for the section titled 4.2.1.1. Cavalry of the General Imperial Army. It confirms that the 4th Uhlans is a cavalry regiment and part of the Austrian joint army
:Thomas Mocharitsch's thesis confirms that 65% of the regiment's personnel were Ruthenian and 29% were Polish (see page 118)
:Istvan Nagy is most likely this Hungarian military historian and independent researcher with a special interest in the Napoleonic cavalryhttps://militaria.academia.edu/NagyLIstv%C3%A1n István Nagy-L. - Independent Researcher ↗
:Like I mentioned on the article's talk page, there aren't many military history books about the 4th Uhlans. I haven't found much on jstor or archive.org. Starting with the biography of Archduke Ferdinand Karl, I'll work backwards and see if the regiment is mentioned in other books about the Hapsburgs 53zodiac (talk) 20:29, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
::Ok, great, that gets us further along… so, Aleksey Likhotvorik being the author doesn’t help us because as far as we can tell he doesn’t have enough formal standing to be considered reliable (for purposes of determining notability), it confirms a detail, but doesn’t help us get the page accepted.
::Page 118 of the thesis, again, helpful to confirm a detail, but too passing a reference to give us notability.
::Istavan Nagy being an independent researcher helps us a lot, because it gives us standing to declare him a reliable source, despite this being a kind of a blog site… and like I said, the reference itself is touch and go as to whether it counts as being long enough to count as more than a passing reference, but I’ll allow that as one of the three. Where this helps us a LOT more though, is that, if you go through his actual published works, of which he has 24 papers and 4 books, those are likely a really good source of confirmation not just for this article, but for others. If I were you I’d try to read some more of those papers, and break the info I found out into different possible / already existing articles, which will really help strengthen them.
::Anyway, this is the process, just got to follow it, clean as many of the references up as possible, and just keep plodding.
::Also… re the sources at the bottom coming from the German version of this article, just be aware that if you are translating from that page, as opposed to writing it new using the same sources, you need to acknowledge that in this article, or you’ll possibly get a ding for copyright infringement…Here’s a link so you can see the policy 👍 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:TFOLWP&redirect=no
::Anyway, keep up the good work. Absurdum4242 (talk) 21:46, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
:::Aleksai Likotvorik's Grwar.ru is on wikidata. grwar.ru person ID - Wikidata ↗
:::Some of the text of the German article was copied over, such as the list of commanding officers. However, other parts of the article were rewritten by myself based on primary sources. There's another book included in the references by Manfred Rauchsteiner that mentions desertions and the distribution of Russian propaganda among the 4th ulans in 1914, and a book by Sergei Cholihy providing some context behind the garrisoning of the Ulan regiments in Lviv during the 1890s.
:::I've done a bit of backwards working and there's only one reliable academic source that provides a history specifically of the Galician Ulan regiments. The book is The Kaiser's Cavalry by George Schreiber, but unfortunately it has been out of print since the 1960s, is not available to read online, and has not been translated from German to English 53zodiac (talk) 18:16, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
:::I've resubmitted it with the citation from Mocharitsch also being used to support a paragraph describing the division between the Slavic enlisted men and the German-speaking officer class. Using the book about Maria Annuzianta makes sense because Archduke Franz Karl was her son (see page 214). The article also includes the two previously mentioned academic books:
:::The Mobilisation at the periphery, by Sergei Cholihy (2025)
:::The First World War and the end of the Hapsburg monarchy, by Manfred Rauchsteiner (2014)
:::I haven't yet been able to read Schreiber's book the Kaiser's Cavalry as it's not the sort of thing my local library or bookshop would have in stock. The plan is to add it at a later date, if and when it becomes available on google books 53zodiac (talk) 18:11, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
::::Ok, I’ve given it a look over now - the Choliy source is a great looking book, I downloaded it to read through fully later for my own enjoyment, ent, so thanks for that, but unfortunately the reference is not speaking enough about the 4th Uhlan specifically, so won’t count for notability. The Mocharitsch I can’t read fully, but the “search inside” gives me enough to think it’s enough to count - although it’s still a little touch and go. So that gives us two sources now, and we need a third - so almost there.
::::One thing I notice is that you still haven’t put the “translated from the German version of the article” on the talk page, and I’m going to have to insist you do that before we go any further. It’s the first thing on the check list that editors check, because it’s the thing that gets the most articles immediately deleted without debate later on. It needs to be in place right from the point that the page goes live, or as soon as someone inteoduces translated material into the article. Just to remind you, this is where you can find how to do this https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:TFOLWP&redirect=no
::::Its a shame when other editors have put in work later on, but the whole article gets entirely deleted, and the whole process has to start over again from scratch, so let’s try to avoid that 👍 Absurdum4242 (talk) 08:47, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
:::::Wrede's Mittheilungen des k.u.k. Kriegs-Archivs - Supplement. Geschichte K. und K. Wehrmacht 3/1.
