Removal of blank spaces from infoboxes

Please don't do this ↗. The template is set up that way for easier editing. Many editors prefer it that way. Mjroots (talk) 18:48, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
::Honestly I am with this person on that edit - adding a whole bunch of unneccessary spaces that do ZERO for future editors is not in the least bit helpful, and it bloats the page. It certainly does not make it more readible, and I doubt that there is a single guide suggesting people do that. - NiD.29 (talk) 07:26, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

"Propellor" corrections

Thanks for your efforts to correct the spelling of the word "propeller". However, please be careful that you do not break existing links to cited sources, as you did here ↗. The link on the web, https://www.hartfordbusiness.com/article/europe-oks-hamiltons-8-blade-propellor , is misspelled, so it should not be corrected. Please look out for this kind of error, and don't correct them. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 04:05, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for November 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mike Mentzer ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Germantown, Pennsylvania ↗<!-- ([//dispenser.info.tm/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dablinks.py/Mike_Mentzer check to confirm]&nbsp;|&nbsp;[//dispenser.info.tm/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dab_solver.py/Mike_Mentzer?client=notify fix with Dab solver])-->. It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:55, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Sarah Vaughan (writer)

Hello Aerohydro. I have reverted the changes you made to the article Sarah Vaughan (writer) ↗. I am sure they were made in good faith. However, you not only changed the format of book titles, but reverted to an earlier version of the text. Her 5th novel became unpublished. Nl maclean (talk) 07:04, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Sesquiplanes.

The word literally means one and a half wings. The slightly broader French definition that is no longer really used was that one wing must be 3/5 of the other.
Please stop flooding every last biplane that has a slight overhand on one wing into the sesquiplane category as they don't belong.
The Hawker Hart is NOT a sesquiplane by anyone's definition, nor are most of the thousands of aircraft you added the category to.
An overhang, or a small difference in chord is not enough to define an aircraft as a sesquiplane.&#32;- NiD.29 (talk) 07:23, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

:Hello NiD.29, Thanks for your comments. I had the understanding that a sesquiplane was essentially a biplane with wings of unequal span - hence the edits I was doing - but now realise that was wrong. By my count I added perhaps one hundred aircraft to that category, not thousands (!), but it might've seemed to have been that number when you were reverting the edits.
:There are two entries that I'd like to check with you, though;
:1 - The Bellanca TES ↗ page, in the very first sentence, says that it's a sesquiplane. Admittedly, it's one of those strange inter-war aircraft designs, where one part of its structure served multiple functions. Perhaps the page needs some further editing, so that its text becomes consistent with its categories?
:2 - The Kingsford Smith PL.7 ↗ seems as if it's a sesquiplane. Contemporary articles certainly referred to it as such. http://aviadejavu.ru/Site/Crafts/Craft31767.htm ↗ http://nzcivair.blogspot.com/2010/10/more-on-bennett-airtruck_20.html ↗

I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added&nbsp;to :AD Navyplane ↗ have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. Thank you. {{PAGENAME}} ↗<!-- Template:uw-spam1 --> BilCat (talk) 09:14, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

:Hello BilCat - Thanks for reaching out. It's not clear to me - even after reading the guidelines ↗ - why the external links had been removed. You'd written the comment ''"spammy"'' next to your edit. Can you clarify where I'd gone wrong when putting in those external links? (I'm still in a learning process regarding contributing towards Wikipedia, and would appreciate the insight.) Many thanks, Aerohydro (talk) 10:42, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hi, and thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into :Rod Macalpine-Downie ↗. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move ↗", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history ↗, which is legally required for attribution ↗. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be ''moved'' to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits ↗, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab ↗ at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu ↗ for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect ↗ from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves ↗ to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-c&pmove --> HouseBlaster ↗talk 16:13, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

:Hello HouseBlaster - Thank you for your comments etc. I had tried to move a page "Roderick Macalpine Downie ↗" to "Rod Macalpine-Downie ↗", but fumbled doing so, and managed only to move the talk page, and not the article itself. Then did a cut-and-paste of the article's text over to the new page, thinking that would help matters, only later to discover that it didn't.(!) This was my first effort at moving a page, and it has proven to be a bit of a learning experience. Thanks for advising how to resolve this. Had intended to lodge the matter at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge ↗, but it seems someone (<bdi>Sdrqaz</bdi>) has fixed my mistake(s), and there's now a re-direct on the old page to the new one. It needs more in-depth coverage with citations from reliable ↗ and independent ↗ sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG ↗. :Hello User:M.Ashraf333, Thanks for commenting about why you moved the "Tom Webster (architect)" page into draftspace.
:I genuinely don't think that better sources are out there. I've been pondering what to do, At the moment, I'm inclined to make the page a stub; reducing and simplifying the text on the page, and filtering out references where appropriate. Suggestions? Recommendations? Kind regards, Paul

The Aviation Historian ↗ moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, The Aviation Historian ↗, is not suitable as written to remain published. :Hello, and thanks for the work you've been doing reviewing the articles I've been creating.
:I'm based in New Zealand, and it happens we have two Anne Salmonds here. The one who is an historian ↗ is quite well-known; the one who's an architect ↗, not so much.
:I meet up with a small group of Wikipedians once a month and, at today's meeting, I'd created the article quite quickly - without references, etc - just so that I could then show a colleague how to do things like renaming an article (changing "Anne Salmond" to Anne Salmond (historian) ↗) and how to create a disambiguation page (Anne Salmond ↗).
:Over the next few days I'll work on the Anne Salmond (architect) ↗ article, and then submit it for approval. Hopefully, it'll pass muster.

A tag has been placed on :Anne Salmond (disambiguation) ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because it is a disambiguation page which either
:::*disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic ↗);
:::* disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
:::*is an orphaned ↗ redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information ↗.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Christchurch Wikipedia Meetups

Kia ora! For the first half of 2024 I'm the Aotearoa Wikipedian-at-Large ↗, based in Christchurch and funded by a grant from Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand. As part of the project I'm running regular meetups in Tūranga ↗ where local Wikipedians can meet, chat, help each other out and collaborate on projects. I'll also be organising edit-a-thons, wikiblitzes, and training for new editors. The goal is to grow the editor community in Christchurch and convince local institutions that Wikipedia is worth taking seriously.

We're having an initlal coffee in Foundation Cafe on Sunday 18 February to talk about what Christchurch Wikipedians might like to do; come along if you're free, or drop me a line at {{NoSpam|mike|rove.wiki}} if you have ideas or suggestions.

We'll be holding a Christchurch meetup every 4 weeks, modelled on the successful Wellington monthly meetups ↗ that have been a big part of growing the Wikimedia community in Wellington and New Zealand. These will be both a coffee chat and a chance for collaborative work in the library's 4th floor workspace. The first two will be:

You can keep track of upcoming events at the Aotearoa Wikipedian at Large Event page ↗, see monthly reports at This Month In GLAM (e.g. January 2024 ↗), and join the monthly Aotearoa online meetup ↗. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk)

Citation styles

Are you familiar with WP:CITEVAR ↗? The policy indicates that one editor shouldn't unilaterally change the citation style of an article that has a consistent style without first seeking consensus. I noticed that you edited the article on [The Balloon-Hoax]] to what is, I presume, your personally preferred style, and that was unnecessary and inappropriate without discussion first. Thanks. --Midnightdreary (talk) 21:52, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

:@Midnightdreary Thanks for the message, but I wasn't aware of that. Going forward, I'll put a message on the relevant talk page, to get that consensus, before making changes.
:Re EAP and the Balloon-Hoax, you might be interested to know about an effort to build a trans-Atlantic airship, in Baltimore, in the 1870s. A German immigrant called Frederick W. Schroeder designed and patented a 'steerable air-ship', for which construction actually commenced. The airship - called the ''City of Baltimore'' - was according to one account was scheduled to depart NY in the Spring of 1876.
:Unfortunately, the project suffered from some setbacks (at one point the partially-built airship was destroyed by a storm, then funding became an issue), and so the airship was never completed. image ↗ patent ↗ article #1 ↗ article #2 ↗ article #3 ↗ article #4 ↗

Game of Wool: Britain's Best Knitter

Hi, ive just reviewed this article for New Page Patrol. It's good but can you please fix references 3-5, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 22:20, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

:@Atlantic306 Hello, Thanks for your message. I've tweaked the references you've referred to, but to be honest I'm not sure what was wrong with them. Please advise. :-) Aerohydro (talk) 06:09, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
:: From the menu on the linked website Im getting a page not found message at the bottom, and links not working, Atlantic306 (talk) 13:05, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
:::@Atlantic306 Hmm, that is strange. I've checked the links and they all work fine for me. The nominated pages all render perfectly, with no broken links at all.
:::Tested the links in different browsers (Chrome, Edge, even Android) in case that affected things, but it didn't. Aerohydro (talk) 04:13, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
::::Not working at all for me, safari and chrome on ipad and chrome on android mobile. Can you describe what the content actually is, if it includes actual episodes is it copyright compliant? regards Atlantic306 (talk) 22:06, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
:::::@Atlantic306
:::::I've taken a screenshot of the webpage detailing the first episode. You should be able to view it here:
:::::https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54947324738_ed209e2177_c.jpg
:::::The screenshot shows just the top part of the webpage. The whole page is very long and contains a huge amount of verbiage.
:::::There may be copyright issues at play. I see you're in the UK; I'm in NZ. If you happen to have ad filters, perhaps that has an impact as well. Aerohydro (talk) 04:01, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
::::::Thanks for that. Perhaps the site is unavailable in the UK. Regarding copyright it was whether they provided downloads of episodes, in which case they would need to have bought the rights, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 22:35, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Recent edit reversion

In this edit here ↗, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy ↗.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. <span style="color:#000E2F;padding:0 4px;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">S Philbrick</span><span style=";padding:0 4px;color:# 000;font-family: Copperplate Gothic Light">(Talk)</span> 11:56, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
