Victoria Square article - Points of interest

Great work on this article. I have a suggestion that you create new headings instead of "Points of interest". There could be separate top-level headings for: Buildings, Bridges, Statues, Installations, etc.

The content in the existing "Points of interest" section includes history, and buildings that are no longer in existence. Perhaps this is out of scope, but one building that I remember from my childhood is the Hay's department store (subsequently Farmers), that had a frontage on Armagh Street, facing the square. The building was notable for many reasons, including the roof top playground for kids, and the (rather dodgy) Father Christmas with the beckoning finger that was mounted on the front of the building, directly facing Victoria Square. See: Haywrights ↗, and https://my.christchurchcitylibraries.com/hays-ltd/ ↗ and https://lostchristchurch.wordpress.com/2011/08/05/hays-building-oxford-terrace-c-1959/ ↗, and https://epress.lib.uts.edu.au/journals/index.php/phrj/article/download/8266/8054?inline=1 ↗, and https://canterburystories.nz/collections/photohunt/2018/ccl-cs-5958 ↗, and in particular: https://www.peelingbackhistory.co.nz/christchurchs-first-christmas-parade-1947/ ↗, and https://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/130756396/mischievous-creator-knew-the-connotations-of-santas-beckoning-finger ↗ Marshelec (talk) 07:08, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Finish the WP:SPLIT ↗ procedure on Christchurch ↗

Hi Cloventt, given the acceptance above, you are free to finish the trimming of the Christchurch article in the history section. I have preemptively added the {{tl|main}} hatnote to the section. :Great work on preparing the new article split out from the Christchurch ↗ article. This had led to a major improvement. It has resolved the overly-large amount of content about history in the main article, reduced the difficulties of enhancing coverage of history within that article, and created an interesting new article that can now be further expanded.
:One of the points of the history of Christchurch that is worth expanding is the work associated with land drainage - since this was so fundamental to settlement on the flat land. I have a useful source, and plan to add some content from this source over the next week or two. I will also aim to include a small amount of the most pertinent information about land drainage in the main Christchurch article._Marshelec (talk) 07:58, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Victoria Square - GA review

I am willing to undertake a GA review of Victoria Square, Christchurch ↗. However, before I begin (or someone else gets started first), it is best that we find a time when both of us can be available. The guidelines suggest that GA reviews should be completed ideally within 7 days, but this is only possible if the nominator and reviewer are both available and can commit the time required. Please let me know a period over the next two months that would be best for you, I will see if we can agree a period for the review._Marshelec (talk) 01:49, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Bots require approval

See Wikipedia:Bot policy ↗. I'm not sure if your macron removal-detection bot falls within this, as it seems to be mostly about bots which edit in article space. If you haven't already, I suggest you read the policy and if there's any likelihood that your bot needs approval, better to ask about it (perhaps at Wikipedia:Bots/Noticeboard ↗) than ignore the potential issue. It is also possible that the functionality could be incorporated more efficiently in an WP:Edit filter ↗, which allows for edits meeting a given criteria to be logged.-Gadfium (talk) 22:56, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

Macron monitor suggestion

Sometimes there are links like <nowiki>a magnitude 7.8 earthquake ↗</nowiki> where although it is true that a macron has been removed, there are no words that should have a macron. Speedy deletion nomination of Mike Casey (entrepreneur)

Hello Cloventt,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Mike Casey (entrepreneur) ↗ for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can <span class="plainlinks">'''Casey (entrepreneur)}}&action=edit&section=new&preload=Template:Hangon_preload&preloadtitle=This+page+should+not+be+speedy+deleted+because...+ contest this deletion ↗'''</span>, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It started today on Monday June 16 and will run until Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible! ♦ <span style="font-variant:small-caps;color:#aba67e">''Dr. Blofeld''</span> 09:59, 16 June 2025 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

right|80px ↗
Hi Cloventt, I just wanted to let you know that I have <span class="plainlinks">added ↗</span> the autopatrolled user right ↗ to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed ↗. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested ↗ on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers ↗.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject ↗ templates, stub tags ↗, categories ↗, and incoming links ↗ to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies ↗, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller ↗ yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing!

Your nomination

Hello! I saw you had started preparing a nomination for the current elections ↗. You seem like a promising new face here :).

I just wanted to make you aware of some of the unspoken or semi-spoken expectations for candidates. You can find some good advice at WP:Advice for RfA candidates ↗, which states that few people succeed with less than 10,000 edits of experience. You've achieved quite a lot in your 3,000 edits, including 2 GAs, so I imagine that you can pass with a lower number, but still, I don't think we've had somebody pass under 7,000 edits in recent years. Perhaps the next election is a better option. Up to you of course!

If you want to start helping more around deletion, you can ask for the NPP user right at WP:PERM/NPP ↗. That way, you can get more experience with other elements of deletion such as WP:CSD ↗ tagging. If you go for that, feel free to ping me, as I've already had a look at your AfD record, and liked what I saw. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:35, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

:Thanks for the great advice! I had similar advice regarding low edit count from other trusted editors, but I thought I’d try the new election process anyway.
:That said, NPP looks like a really excellent option for me, so thank you for the suggestion. I’ll look into applying there. <span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:monospace;">'''David Palmer'''//</span>cloventt</span> (talk) 20:27, 10 July 2025 (UTC)

:Hello {{u|Femke}}, I just wanted to back up your impression. We are looking at a rather strong candidate here who will face some stiff views over low edit count, even if everything else stacks up. I know David personally and hold him in high regard. He's got lots to offer.

::I'm not too bothered about people having stiff views on my low edit count; they'd be right, it's low! ::::Yep, very true, I've just created an opinion poll at WP:ORCP ↗ to get more feedback. <span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:monospace;">'''David Palmer'''//</span>cloventt</span> (talk) 03:10, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
:::@Cloventt, some advice: ''every'' candidate last time around who had a nominator was elected. Some with no nominators still succeeded, but I'm pretty confident you would not be one of them - I don't think a person can pull off ''both'' a lack of noms ''and'' a record-low edit count. But I'll also add that the one candidate who surprised me last time was one who evidently was known to a lot of longtimers from in-person events. So if you have a lot of people who know you personally, and you can get two of them to nominate you and tell us all how great you are (and I see you only need one more at this point), I think you may have a shot here. -- asilvering (talk) 03:12, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
::::I should add that I think it's a ''long'' shot, and my earnest advice would be to wait for a later election. But given @Schwede66's response above, I wouldn't count you out entirely. -- asilvering (talk) 03:16, 11 July 2025 (UTC)

:Also, if you use Discord, there's a NPP server at https://discordapp.com/invite/heF3xPu ↗. A bit less intimidating to ask quick questions there than on the main NPP talk page. By the way, I saw your comments about AfC at PERM and... yeah, I hear you. There's a lot of good to be done there, fixing up some nearly-there drafts and leaving helpful comments. <div>
The discussion phase of the July 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship ↗. You may discuss the candidates at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase''' ↗.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll ↗ software to vote, which uses a secret ballot ↗. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed ↗ to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page ↗ (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page ↗. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ↗ ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page ↗. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Your treatment of newcomers

... is miserable. You obviously want to drive me away. You use all the tricks from the book, to diminish my work and to insult me as a person. Can you please leave me alone .....!!!! If not, I will leave. I find it particularly nasty that after we had a debate in one article, you followed me to other articles. That's not civilized behavior. Photographer&#39;s Box (talk) 22:48, 20 July 2025 (UTC)

:I'm sorry you feel that way. I have no opinion on you as a person. I'm doing my best to give you some guidance.
:A word of advice: do not take things too personally on Wikipedia. There is no reason to become personally offended by other volunteers doing basic maintenance tasks on your article. ::What you are doing is not "maintenance". We had a disagreement on one article, and ''all'improvviso'' you discovered another article, I wrote. You are persecuting my work and THIS IS NOT OKAY. And you know that! Stop talking like an angel.--Photographer&#39;s Box (talk) 22:58, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
:::I intend to disengage from you here because you appear to be unwilling to take advice. I recommend doing the same from your side. Putting badges on the article and deleting 70% is '''<u>no help</u>'''. ::::Obviously you do not understand, why your remarks are so insulting to me. I have never received ONE CENT from the website, from the festival, from any of the photographers. You raise suspicions and I feel so helpless. Why, gosh, why did I ever go to Wikipedia? Just to be insulted! Just to be called suspicious? ..... No, you do not understand the miserable reaction your words are causing ....--Photographer&#39;s Box (talk) 17:37, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Rejection of Sahha article

Hi David,
Wanted to further get your thoughts on how to proceed with this. I have tried hard to avoid writing in a promotional style. There have been re-edits from the first push back and AI had not been used beyond helping me figure out formatting and inline citations. I've seen your QWikicite links and can use that going ahead looks like a cool project.

Back to the article... I have fully disclosed my conflict of interest. The work is not written by AI. Please help convey what I can do better. I had asked on the help desk.

My interest in this area goes beyond the company. This AI tech space and the overlap in health seems to be basically a deadzone on Wikipedia. The biggest AI communities in both New Zealand and Australia don't have a mention. The developments of AI in Oceania I think will have cultural and historical significance in the next 50 years and early articles in this area would help capture and accurately record history as it happens. Sahha is unique as it is one of the frighteningly few companies in the ecosystem which actually has science based insights out of health data with wearables. This is relevant to health academia and increasing integration of bioinformatics into every day life. Sahha underpins many other app systems which offer scales of wellness and such. If you can find another Company that exists that currently does this I will definitely include it in the article for objectivity. I cannot find one.

I'd like to springboard from here into being able to write further in areas of government health monitoring systems, insurance health surveillance and the AI community which is rising in New Zealand and Australia. I think these are societally relevant areas.
For Sahha, for notability I had ODT, News Japan, NBR, Athletech as references.

If the writing in regards to novel developments and partnerships was too promotional I will gut that, I included it to try ensure it clearly passed the test of notability but it seems that is irrelevant?

Thanks so much for any feedback in advance. Fivelidz5lidz (talk) 11:35, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

:The best way to get into Wikipedia is finding a subject you care about that has an existing article, and trying to improve that. This is the best way to learn about our culture and the ins-and-outs of editing. Hunting down new sources and expanding a topic. Starting off by writing a whole new article is really jumping in the deep end. <span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:monospace;">'''David Palmer'''//</span>cloventt</span> (talk) 03:48, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

Administrator Elections - Discussion Phase

<div style="border: 5px solid #ABCDEF ; padding:10px 15px">
<div style="display:flex; align-items:center;">
<div>
The discussion phase of the December 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship ↗. You may discuss the candidates at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Discussion phase''' ↗.

On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll ↗ software to vote, which uses a secret ballot ↗. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed ↗ to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which typically lasts between a couple days and a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page ↗ (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page ↗. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate who has not been recalled ↗ must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. A candidate that has been recalled must have at least 55.0% support ↗. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ↗ ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page ↗. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Hello, Cloventt.

I've edited this page; I've removed the failed verification, and I've added a link announcing his charitable activities. I hope that this finds you well.

Welcome to Phase 2 of the January–February 2026 NPP drive ↗. During Phase 1, we reviewed 16,658 articles and 4,416 redirects, and there is currently a backlog of 16,475 articles and 23,782 redirects in the queue. Fantastic job! Completing 22,502 patrols in the first phase made a significant dent in the backlog. Let's keep our foot on the gas for Phase 2, and I hope we can achieve even more reviews than Phase 1. I have no idea what is with your insistence on exporting information from Wikipedia to a website that simply makes it easier to vandalise Wikipedia Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive950#Hard_to_detect_mobile_vandalism ↗. A site where a BLP can be labelled as a pornographic actor by a troll https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q6007303&type=revision&diff=532094655&oldid=525824667 ↗ and have such libel last for 2 years https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q6007303&oldid=1009464371 ↗

Wikidata is certainly a better place for this data if you wish to make it easier for it to be vandalised, but I fail to see any reason how this change benefits the English Wikipedia. Do you enjoy making the jobs of vandals easier? Traumnovelle (talk) 10:22, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

:We’re not talking about a BLP issue—if we were, I’d agree with you. This is the approximate physical location of a building we’re talking about. Is vandalism of coordinate locations a major issue on Wikidata? I haven’t seen it anywhere. <span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:monospace;">'''David Palmer'''//</span>cloventt</span> (talk) 10:29, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
::Its just an example of how there is no functional oversight and even blatant vandalism runs rampant. Changing numerical values is a common form of vandalism, in fact there are 3 LTAs named 'Date-changing vandal' for example. If someone changed the coordinates to be off by a few numbers there'd be no way of knowing this has been changed from English Wikipedia. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:00, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

May 2026 Administrator Elections – Voting Phase

<div style="border: 5px solid #ABCDEF; padding: 0.5em 1em 0 1em;" role="article">
right|80px ↗
The voting phase of the May 2026 administrator elections has started and will continue until {{Administrator elections status/data|May 2026|end}} at {{Administrator election time|end}} UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at '''Wikipedia:Administrator elections/May 2026/Voting phase ↗'''.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote ↗ has a week to use the SecurePoll ↗ software to vote, which uses a secret ballot ↗. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements ↗ are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page ↗ (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page ↗. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall ↗ candidates must achieve 55.0% support ↗. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ↗ ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page ↗. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

'''Backlog update'''

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

'''2024 and 2025 NPP Awards'''

74px|left ↗{{no ping|JTtheOG}} was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
{{no ping|Hey man im josh}} and {{no ping|MPGuy2824}} won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

{{no ping|BoyTheKingCanDance}}, {{no ping|Rosiestep}}, {{no ping|SunDawn}}, and {{no ping|Vanderwaalforces}} were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame ↗ for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

'''January–February backlog drive'''

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to {{no ping|JTtheOG}}, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

'''May backlog drive'''

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026 ↗.

'''PageTriage'''

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed ↗ to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket ↗ if you're interested in following along.
