Hey, and thank you for your edits ↗ to 2013 New Year Honours ↗. However, you have removed a great deal of the standard formatting from these that I did, putting it out of alignment with our established way that we write this and other Honours lists (relevant salutations and PNLs outside of the link, adding a comma between PNLs, and using full names). Would you be terribly put-out if I fix it up to how we normally keep these?

2014 Birthday Honours

Good evening, I really would like you to explain why you added the 'residences' and removed some of the post-nom templates. The residents were left out for a reason and I do not see why the post-nom templates were removed, some were kept but changed to an inferior template. : I'm happy to explain my edits. <ol><li>The places of residence of the added, as per the published honours lists, for consistency as they are listed for the New Zealand recipients on the previous lists on Wikipedia - e.g. see 2014 New Year Honours#New Zealand ↗. As far as I am aware, no objection has previously been raised about including the residences of those honoured. Thus not sure what would be the problem with adding this information. : Yes, the demonym for New Zealand is New Zealander, but, as per the list of adjectival and demonymic forms for countries and nations ↗, the adjectival is New Zealand. So, it could be said that Hilgendorf was a New Zealander, or that Hilgendorf was a New Zealand teacher, but NOT that he is was a New Zealander teacher. ::Agreed it is strange. A woman appointed a GNZM would be both a :Category:Dames Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit ↗ and a :Category:New Zealand dames ↗. The concerns about non-article pages may get added to the category are addressed by using Template:nz instead of nz-cats for lists and sort keys are unrelated to these articles.

Copy-paste move of Elias Scheres

Hi Paora, there were two men of this name, I can remember meeting both in the 1950s. You've mixed up the Wellington solicitor with the Wairarapa sheep breeder. Don't know why the Wellington man got his knighthood, the rest of the article looks to me to be about the sheep breeder (1863-1956) who got his knighthood in the New Year's honours in 1933.<ref>Evening Post ↗</ref> Are you able to sort the two men out? Parentheses

I was taught a parenthesis is a comma with added purpose. Bertie Germ was heavily promoted to children by propaganda from the 1930s on in posters on school walls etc. Bertie Germ unless washed off with soap and water did terrible things to any child and to children's unbrushed teeth. The status quo referred to is the status quo before the RfC: i.e. that the template size remains at 85% but that the original size of the postnoms should not be changed if that was 100%. It is certainly not a charter for fans of the small size to point to the mass addition of the template and say "look, it's 85% ''now'' so it should remain at 85% even though the original writer wrote it at 100%"! How on earth would you think this was the case? Reg Douglas ↗

Hi Paora. Regarding Reg Douglas ↗, I do not think it is safe to say that Douglas is living just because he does not appear in the New Zealand Death Index. While it makes it more likely, as you note yourself, he could have moved elsewhere and died there. He could have also had a legal name change or just had some other reason why he does not appear (a small percentage of individuals who are known to be deceased on particular dates are missing from the US Social Security Death Index and the French Death Index, so it could happen in NZ too). Another thing to consider is that the New Zealand Olympians Club could not locate him in 2012 ↗. None of this means he is deceased for certain, of course, but he is over 90 with no evidence of being alive in many years, so he seems to fit :Category:Possibly living people ↗ perfectly. Thoughts? However, it is clear that Douglas was still living (and most likely in New Zealand) in late 2009, when he was interviewed for an obituary ↗ for Bob Parker ↗, his partner at the 1956 Olympics and the 1954 and 1958 British Empire Games. Interestingly, both Parker and Douglas are mentioned in the 2012 article about the search for "lost" Olympic rowers by the New Zealand Olympians Club to which you refer, so not sure how exhaustive their search was given that they weren't aware of Parker's death reported in the ''New Zealand Herald'', the country's largest circulation newspaper, three years earlier. Given that Douglas won three Commonwealth Games medals, including two gold, for New Zealand, I'd expect some sort of obituary or other mention in the media if he had died between 2009 and now. So we cannot assume that just absence of evidence is evidence of absence when it comes to them being deceased - that's why we have the possibly living people category in the first place. As usual, got caught up in other things, but it is on my notepad of things to do. Your revert on 2007 Birthday Honours (New Zealand) ↗ a few minutes ago just moved it up.

Everything that supports the Ross Ferguson ↗ page - references, bibliography, news paper clippings, official government announcements, his official abbreviation for Botany citations - shows him as Allan Ross Ferguson or A. R. Ferguson or Allan R. Ferguson. I appreciate that folks who know him personally may well call him Ross all the time, but to the majority of the billions in the world (well, the millions who read Wiki) (well, at least the thousands that read his Wiki article), he appears as one of these variations of Allan Ross Ferguson.

This is in keeping with the direction of WP:COMMONNAME ↗, which gives "J. K. Rowling ↗ (not: Joanne Rowling)" as a specific example of "commonly used names in support of recognizability" - her friends may all call her Joanne, but J. K. is the common name for the wider world. An introduction to Wikisource, a free repository of digitised out-of-copyright books uploaded and proofread by volunteers, and what this means for New Zealand libraries and museums.

Hello Paora. There is another version of this image here ↗, which I think is slightly better as it doesn't have the line going through his neck (if you zoom in on Trove, the quality is not bad). Although I originally uploaded a small version of it as a non-free image, I have since learnt that it should be out of copyright as it was published in Australia before 1955 (like this one ↗). I wondered whether it might be worth uploading the one from PIM over the file on Commons and adjusting the rationale? Kia ora, re this ↗, I was just trying to fill out the infobox and actually mindlessly copied George Washington ↗, which of course says he was the 1st President of the United States but also gives the "office established". I'll just say it gives a bit more visual meat to a lonely section of the officeholder infobox, which appears a bit sparse if you have only "succeeded by" in a single section; moreover I think there's an argument that it's nicer to have an demonstrated end when you're clicking back through infobox links. I agree with you that it's redundant, but it's also an infobox... redundancy can be the point. I'll revert you, tentatively, but if you revert me back I'll wave the white flag. The earliest publication of hers that I have found is her Ph.D from Auckland, and the dedication makes it likely that she is indeed a New Zealander. (I have been working hard on her sponges and her articles in wikidata, so there is no doubt about her notability.) But tracing her movements via her affiliations makes it very hard for any reader. Tereza's table of contents problem

It turns out that Tereza's issue with tables of contents that she mentioned at the Auckland Wiki meet-up is a stylistic difference. On Portuguese Wikipedia ↗, tables of contents are generated on the left-hand sidebar instead of underneath the lede. There seems to be a way to generate the table in-article (e.g. Jeanine Áñez ↗), but I couldn't see any wikiscript that would trigger this in the article. --Prosperosity (talk) 00:53, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

There never seems to be any official announcement, so there is generally a bit of guesswork, particularly when there are no events that the administrator is involved in during the period that they are in the role. Kiro was overseas in July for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, but I haven't seen anything about whether it was Winkelmann or another senior Supreme Court justice who was administrator then. Similarly in early September when Kiro visited Samoa. Then during the latest trip for the Queen's funeral, Glazebrook was apparently administrator for the first part of the absence, then Winkelmann was in the role from the middle of 20 September. We don't list all the times that the deputy prime minister is acting prime minister in his infobox, so would question the need to do the same when the administrator is "acting governor-general". Feedback request - ideas for an editathon based in Rotorua

Kia ora, I seek your feedback on a preliminary idea that I have been developing. This is for WANZ to plan an editathon based in Rotorua, focussing on articles and topics of interest in the Rotorua Lakes District. I have previously done some work on a few articles in the Rotorua Lakes District, and was aware that they were rather patchy. When I look into this further, there are major gaps - most especially the cultural aspects. It is disappointing to see the currently poor level of coverage of manawhenua and iwi topics. I would appreciate your thoughts. Do you think the idea is practical - that it would be feasible to find someone with the right background and skills who would engage with us ? If you think the idea is potentially worthwhile, what are the next steps ? FRSNZ list

Hi @Paora (and tagging @Schwede66). I've been right through the table adding the images that Wikidata knows about, adding in all the missing people to bring the list up to date, and trying to make sure people are linked to the right page. By my count there should be 793 people in the table but I'd welcome a second opinion (maybe it would be worth us having numbering in the table? It would assist in keeping the page and total number current in future). Technically the original fellows weren't elected but I think they're included in the table so I included them in my count.
I separated out the Honorary Fellows on Wikidata and made a category for them in Wikipedia. There are more than 250 of them though so I haven't gone through to add people to the category, other than where they were in the wrong one. Hey, I'm kind of new to enwiki. I was fixing disambiguation and noticed that the Moonlight Flat on Waitaki District#Geography ↗ links to Moonlight Flat ↗, but the page doesn't contain the one on New Zealand. So I wanted to add a redlink, but you reverted ↗. So, should I remove the link on Waitaki District? New Zealand English vs. Māori; italics

Hello! You recently reverted some of my edits that italicized Māori words. I could find nothing in WP:MOS ↗, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (New Zealand) ↗, or Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand ↗ that indicates this is wrong (or right, to be fair; there is little guidance). From my perspective, these words are not NZE but Māori, and Wikipedia caters to a global audience. I specifically avoided italicizing any proper names and the word ''Māori'' itself.

I would truly appreciate some guidance on this. I can see words like ''iwi'' possibly being common enough in NZE, but is it a loanword or a foreign-language term?

Unfortunately, Google Maps has taken to providing 16-digit coordinates in what is believed to be a copyright trap ↗ scheme. That level of precision is in the 1/100th of a micrometre ↗ range. WP:OPCOORD ↗ and MOS:COORDS ↗ calls for rounding or truncating coordinates, usually to DD°MM'SS" or D.dddd°.
