Auckland Museum Medals

I am willing to review the article for creation. However, it has an odd duplicated section of content below External links. Can you review and clean that up please ? Thanks Marshelec (talk) 08:15, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

:{{Ping|Marshelec}} That part is a section that'd be added to Auckland War Memorial Museum ↗ and not the medals article, if that makes sense (I'd have a COI adding it myself without the text being reviewed) Prosperosity (talk) 08:35, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
::@Prosperosity I hope I have done what you hoped for :). No pressure at all, and this topic may not be your thing, but if you are interested in forest reserves and bird sanctuaries, I have just nominated Bushy Park (New Zealand) ↗ for GA review. _Marshelec (talk) 09:02, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
:::{{Ping|Marshelec}} Wonderful, thank you! I'll have a look over the article - I'm not sure if I have the capacity at the moment to do a review, but I might see if there are any changes that could be made to help the review.
:::Also, would you be interested in drawing the park in OpenStreetMap and linking it to the Wikidata item? It looks like it's not currently shown on OSM so you'd have to find a map and draw it. --Prosperosity (talk) 22:11, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

William Green NZ Composer

Hello. The page I created about him has been removed. He lives in Auckland. I don't understand wikipedia very well. Could you look into this please? I left messages with the deleter but they don't appear to be active now for many days. I left a message on an administrator's page but have had no response. Thank you for your help. Kelly222 (talk) 22:17, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

:FYI, the article has been moved to draft space ↗ as it's clearly not ready for main space. '''<span style="color: #000000;">Schwede</span><span style="color: #FF4500;">66</span>''' 00:57, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
:{{ping|Kelly222}} Have a read of WP:COMPOSER ↗ - that may help a little. The article needs to explain why this person is notable (e.g. if they won awards, were part of a major production, were involved with albums that charted in music charts, etc.). At this stage it's much to brief to become a mainspace article - see what additional sources you can find about him and see if the article can be expanded further.
:Wiki articles on people who are alive tend to need significantly more sources establishing their facts, and explaining why somebody is notable. Does that help? --Prosperosity (talk) 03:50, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
::Thank you but we've been down that route already. The user who deleted the article seems to be keen to delete without looking carefully. Another user pointed out that liance had not considered the listing in the NZ encyclopedia and also agrees with me that a listing in the NZ encyclopedia is itself sufficient for notability. The composer guideline says itself that it's only a guideline and when I looked at it I see it seems to have in mind pop music. Kelly222 (talk) 21:14, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
:::{{ping|Kelly222}} That's right, a lot of the music guidelines are meant for pop music, that's why it's better to have a look at the composer subsection. There are a few major issues that would need to be addressed for the article:
::::1) It's a really tiny page. The article needs much more information, coming from multiple sources that discuss the subject.
::::2) The page should talk more about why he is important, based on major sources that focus on him and explain why he's important. Some of the reasons why a composer might be considered important are listed here ↗
::::3) The page formatting should match other pages on similar topics - I've had a look at NZ composers, and some formats that might be helpful are Richard Fuchs ↗ or Barry Anderson ↗ (also great guides for what level of detail and information is needed).
:::That someone has an article in Te Ara means they're almost definitely notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia, but it doesn't mean that ''any'' Wikipedia page on this person is okay. The page should also be detailed and explain why they're important, backed up with reliable sources (and some of those sources should focus on him as the main subject).
:::Does that make sense? Prosperosity (talk) 22:18, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
:::I've just had a look at the Te Ara website and I can't seem to find an article on him. Could you point to where it is? Prosperosity (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

''Ovalipes catharus ↗''

Hi, {{u|Prosperosity}}! I'm working on improving the article on ''Ovalipes catharus ↗'', and I noticed you're working on improving coverage on Aotearoan history and that you added information about Māori art cited to Vennell (2022) (I'm unfortunately unable to find a copy at any libraries near me to look into this in more detail). I was wondering if you happen to know of any specific piece of Māori containing ''Ovalipes catharus'' and if there exists an image of it which is suitably licensed for Wikimedia Commons. I'm hoping to place an image of the artwork in that section to show off an example. All the best, <b><span style="color: #00a9ff"><i>TheTechnician27</i></span></b> <span style="color: blue">(Talk page)</span> 16:15, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

::{{ping|TheTechnician27}} I think I remember seeing an image from a wharenui in the book showing a crab, but I don't have the book on me anymore so I couldn't confirm, sorry! The closest I can find on WikiCommons are the New Zealand Arthropod Collection pare carvings ↗, but no crustaceans there that I can see. --Prosperosity (talk) 22:58, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
:::{{re|Prosperosity}} Aw, that's alright, though. Still hugely appreciate the work you're doing in this arguably undercovered area, and if nothing else, I got to see some cool wood carvings with arthropods. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:YentownSwalmusicvid.jpg

64px|left|alt=|link= ↗
Thank you for uploading ''':File:YentownSwalmusicvid.jpg ↗'''. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content ↗. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline ↗ is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag ↗; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page ↗. Auckland Libraries navbar

Greetings Prosperosity, feel free to use the navbar I've been working on as a source for your new Template:Libraries in Auckland ↗ navbar. You can find it here: User:Whaleyland/Template:Auckland Libraries list. I was planning to make it live when more library pages were added, but that seems to be happening far too slowly. – '''Whaleyland''' (Talk • Contributions ↗) 05:44, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

:{{ping|Whaleyland}} Thanks! I'll see if I can use the structure of the navbar (some of them like the Ōrere Point library I'm unsure if they'd ever be able to have a page - unless there was a List of libraries in Auckland article and it pointed to a section). Prosperosity (talk) 23:39, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
::{{ping|Prosperosity}} For sure. Some are definitely more aspirational than likely to be realised. I think a good 75% of the libraries are suitable for pages. Many of the libraries date to before the 1989 regional restructure, some even to the 1800s such as Takapuna Library. There are maybe a dozen that have been created since 1989 and only a couple since the supercity was created in 2010. A partial solution could be to create a more comprehensive Auckland Council Libraries ↗ that has brief snippets for all of the libraries that don't currently have pages and use it as a springboard for individual pages. On a related note, the Auckland Libraries page needs to be split between the system and the Auckland Central Library. At some point the system and central library became conflated.– '''Whaleyland''' (Talk • Contributions ↗) 11:20, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello, Prosperosity. Your account has been <span class="plainlinks">granted ↗</span> the "{{mono|extendedmover}}" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages ↗. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect ↗ and move subpages ↗ when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover ↗ for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect ↗. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures ↗ and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when <code>suppressredirect</code> is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere ↗. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password ↗. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked ↗.

Chara sources

Hello! Thank you very much for your contributions regarding Chara. I was looking through the revision history of a few related articles and saw that you are the primary author for some of them.

I noticed that some sections could benefit from additional citations. I'm interested in the sources for both accuracy and personal curiosity, and I would be very happy to help add them if you could point me in the right direction.

An example I would like to give is the "Sound Sources" section of Live 97–99 Mood ↗. If you happen to remember the reference for that information, would you be able to share it? IDontFinishSen (talk) 17:04, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

Question about license

I see that you're the Wikimedian in Residence based at the Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira.
I welcome your contributions to the WikiProject gastropods. But I see that you use text from several publications that are, in my opinion still under copyright, such as from Arthur William Baden Powell.
Early in this project (I think it was in 2004) someone from New Zealand, did the same (even if he meant well) and was definitely banned. New I've read somewhere in Wikipedia:GLAM/Auckland Museum that the museum released many publications under a compatible license for Wikipedia, but I cannot find a confirmation of this. I would appreciate if you can you show me where this compatible license can be found. JoJan (talk) 13:58, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

:{{ping|JoJan}} Not a problem - it's a little hidden, but on the BHL there's a 'show info' tab which shows the license on the right side of the page. Most of the older volumes of the ''Records'' have been released under a CC-BY license. Prosperosity (talk) 19:55, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

:: I now found the license. Using all these works, that were previously under copyright, is a big step forward for Wikipedia. I appreciate all the efforts you're doing, because so much still has to be done. A small hint, I now use AI to improve these old texts for clarity and flow - but without changing the content of the article. JoJan (talk) 06:53, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
