Rana dynasty

Hi, I see you are creating articles for each of the Rana rulers. Perhaps it would be better to integrate these biographies into the main [[Rana dynasty ↗ article? When there's enough material for a separate article (like Jang Bahadur ↗) these could be split off. Jihg 17:23, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Lij Iyasu of Ethiopia

Hi, I'm a little puzzled about your claim that Lij Iyasu ↗ was awarded the Knights Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. His reign was short, & to the best of my knowledge he neither made himself available to receive this honor (he spent most of his reign away from his capital, where the british embassy was, engaging in dubious activities) nor had he "performed personal service for the Sovereign" -- I assume this means the monarch of the UK. In fact, some of his official acts were potentially harmful to the British. I'd like to see a source for this claim. -- llywrch 23:25, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
: Your edit to the article on Lij Iyasu is too terse to explain its purpose. And the URL is not correct. -- llywrch 04:45, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of :Malerao Holkar II ↗

48px|left ↗ A tag has been placed on :Malerao Holkar II ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Order of the Chrysanthemum

In my view, your recent edits would have been more meaningful if they had been accompanied by at least one in-line reference citation, which then becomes something of an invitation for further development. This would have been particularly interesting for me -- and plausibly for others as well -- if it just happened to turn out that the thread of research which led you to these specific edits were a little different than my own. Do you see my point? As long as you're opening a door, I'm just suggesting that you consider making that opening a bit broader, wider, etc.? --Tenmei (talk) 19:07, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Tokugawa shoguns

You may recall a recent edit in which you modified the bland Succession boxes ↗ for each of the fifteen Tokugawa shoguns ↗. You substituted an enhanced "regnal" version; and this has generated some interest. This plausbile improvement is the subject of a discussion thread at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan #Tokugawa shoguns ↗. You may have a useful contribution to make in this context.

I find that I am not alone in preferring the previous version. My reasoning has to do with graphics and visual analytics ↗; but others may see things differently. I can't help wondering what you might think ... and yet, the talk page above suggests that you have not participated in this kind of give-and-take in the past. Perhaps this would be a timely opportunity to follow-up your edit by participating in the discussion about it? --Tenmei (talk) 21:08, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

:I again invite you to post a comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan #Tokugawa shoguns ↗? --Tenmei (talk) 17:48, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

::I have now reverted the shogunal succession boxes to a plain, standard format; but in doing so, I don't want to forget to thank you for your constructive contribution. Your explanation made it very clear that you were only interested in enhancing the quality of these articles -- and vicariously, ''your edits did achieve your salutatory objective.'' The thoughtful conversation your edit inspired was interesting; and it is likely to prove useful in the future.

::On each Tokugawa shogun's talk page, I've posted a link to the thread. If a similar issue comes up again, the archived thread may become a way for us all to avoid the necessity of "re-inventing the wheel" ....

Post-nominals for Americans

Thank you for your edits, however for Americans, please do not include post-nominal letters ↗ in the WP:LEAD ↗ or its infobox. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "{{mono|reviewer}}" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits ↗ on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial ↗ scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed ↗ to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles ↗, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages ↗.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism ↗ or BLP violations ↗, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process ↗). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here ↗.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. <!-- Template:Reviewer-notice --> Courcelles (talk) 04:56, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Ranjitsinhji

Thanks for your information about Ranji's honours and titles. However, I'm not sure that it belongs in this main article. I've moved it to the talk page for the moment, where other people may comment. But this is my view. Firstly, I'm not convinced by the importance of this information where it is not covered in the main article. Does it matter that he changed from Major to Lieutenant or from GBE to GCSI. These titles and his honours are largely symbolic as he was hardly a major military figure. Secondly, even if these are important details, they remain details and I would argue they are trivia (except where the facts are covered (or will be covered) in the main article. An encyclopaedia should not include such minor details as these in my view; however, there may be mileage in a separate article, such as List of titles held by K. S. Ranjitsinhji ↗ but I'm not sure it would be notable enough. Also, I am in the process of a major expansion of the article, which I hope to take eventually to FAC, and some of this information will be included very shortly. Finally, it is usually better when giving a reference to include more details, such as in the rest of the Ranji article, rather than give a bare URL for the reference. Please feel free to discuss this either on the article talk page or on my own talk page, and if necessary, we can ask for other views at WP:CRIC ↗ or elsewhere. Also, if you have any other information about Ranji but are not sure about the sourcing for it, let me know and we can see what we can dig up! --Sarastro1 (talk) 21:07, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Sourcing for Louis Mountbatten's honors?

Hi. I realize you made this edit 2 years ago:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Louis_Mountbatten,_1st_Earl_Mountbatten_of_Burma&diff=343010289&oldid=343008144

But. Where did you get this list? Can you please add a reference? I'm particularly interested in the Order of Isabella the Catholic he apparently received from Spain. I've been trying to keep that article well-sourced, and I can't find anything that confirms he actually got it. Doesn't mean he didn't, because records before 1945 or so are pretty scarce, but nothing comes up in Google searches in Spanish, and it's not listed on es:Anexo:Condecorados con la Orden de Isabel la Católica#1922 ↗. SnowFire (talk) 01:10, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Ranji

I reverted your last changes to Ranji. As I believe I may have mentioned before, references should not be bare urls, as you included in your two references. Also, I am not convinced that www.royalark.net is a reliable source, per WP:RS. There is no indication of the expertise of the author, or any editorial control of the site. The information also looks very like the details in the Simon Wilde biography of Ranji and I would like to have a check for copyvio on that site. Finally, I'm not sure that the information about Nawanagar is relevant as the article is about the man, not the state. If you think the information is very important, please place a note on the article talk page and we'll see what we can do as it can almost certainly be better referenced if consensus is that it is important. I would note, however, that the article is already very long, with room to expand as I hope to include more on his time in Nawanagar soon, having acquired some more sources. Thanks. --Sarastro1 (talk) 23:02, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

# When you updated the avg. weekday ridership figures you ''also'' have to remember to update the 'Ridership per mile' column using the new figures.
# You deleted the APTA Q4 2013 reference and changed the Annual Ridership column heading to 2014, but that is incorrect – the Annual Ridership figures are ''still'' coming from the Q4 2013 APTA ridership report: so the old column heading, with its previous APTA Q4 2013 reference, need to be restored.
If you could make these changes when you get the chance, it would be appreciated! Thanks! --IJBall (talk) 16:18, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Prince Chichibu

Hi. The source that you mentioned says he was quietly passed over in the line of succession in favour of his brother Prince Takamatsu. Well, it is clear that heads of the previous cadet branches of the imperial family or maybe the government didn't want an ill prince ascend the throne, but there was no official announcement or even an official press release to say that he is out of the line. Under the imperial household law he legally held the third position to become the next emperor but he was not the best option for being monarch. So I think we should count his name in that list. <span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: #1E7HDC">Keivan.f</span> ↗</span><span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: purple">Talk</span> ↗</span> 19:37, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
:Well, It seems that you're not interested in discussing the matter. So I change the article's material. <span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: #1E7HDC">Keivan.f</span> ↗</span><span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: purple">Talk</span> ↗</span> 14:02, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
If you have read the section on succession disputes, also note that an official decision was taken in July 1944 to appoint Prince Takamatsu as regent, though in the event the plan was not carried out. Another postwar proposal also intended Prince Takamatsu as regent, not Prince Chichibu. There are references available for both. Again, please do not make any changes to the material based on your own interpretation of the facts unless and until you have references to support your changes.Aumnamahashiva (talk) 15:17, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
::You are the one who changes the material based on your own interpretation of the facts. Please just think of what you said. Because Prince Takamatsu was regent Prince Chichibu was passed out of the line. Funny reason!! You should prove that Prince Chichibu was passed out of the line by a strong and official reference, because many princes around the world become regent instead of crown princes or higher ranked princes but it doesn't mean that the others are passed out of the line. I'm just avoiding from starting an edit war with you. Don't use your rollback permission for reverting (or avoid from undoing) non-vandalism edits. <span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: #1E7HDC">Keivan.f</span> ↗</span><span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: purple">Talk</span> ↗</span> 15:35, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Likewise, I'm not interested in an edit war as I've numerous other articles to work on - so let me know what you think should be done re. the status of Prince Chichibu. I'm also curious to know how much you've studied on the Japanese Imperial Family, as they historically had a complex system of protocols which often greatly differed from those adopted by European royal dynasties.Aumnamahashiva (talk) 15:48, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

One suggestion I can make is to include Prince Chichibu in the line of succession, but place a note beside his place and the places of a number of other imperial princes from the collateral lines as "Potentially ineligible to succeed by the terms of the 1889 Imperial House Law."Aumnamahashiva (talk) 15:54, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

::Honestly, I should say that I have more knowledge about European dynasties than Japanese imperial dynasty, but I have also studied about Japanese Empire. Your suggestion seems good. Please include them in the line and add a note beside their names. <span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: #1E7HDC">Keivan.f</span> ↗</span><span style="font:'Pristina'"><span style="color: purple">Talk</span> ↗</span> 18:05, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Birth place of Maureen O'Hara

From WP:IMOS ↗;

The place of birth, residence and/or death of people who were born, lived or died before 1921 in what today is Northern Ireland should be given simply as "Ireland", and they should not be described as "Northern Irish". "Ireland" should not normally be linked, but if thought necessary should be linked as <nowiki>Ireland ↗</nowiki>, not <nowiki>Ireland ↗</nowiki>. For people who were born, lived or died in Northern Ireland after 1922 use "Northern Ireland", which will not normally be linked and should never be pipelinked.

For people anywhere else in Ireland at any time, "Ireland" should be used. Should pipelinking be considered necessary, <nowiki>Ireland ↗</nowiki> can be used after 1922.]]

Hope this clears up the confusion. Murry1975 (talk) 11:58, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

"Order of XXX Merit" vs "XXX Order of Merit" (in National Order of Merit (France) ↗)

Sorry, this is the second time I cancel one of your change on National Order of Merit (France) ↗ (first time was in mid 2013), here's the detailed explanation why your changes were wrong: the defunct order names were built in French using the "Ordre du Mérite XXX" pattern as those ministerial (or colonial) orders were established to reward their recipients for their "XXX merit" ("mérite XXX" in French); hence in English they should be translated into "Order of XXX Merit" and not "XXX Order of Merit". Compare this pattern with the present "National Order of Merit" ("Ordre national du Mérite") that replaced them. –BlaF. (talk) 09:44, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Hello {{ping|Aumnamahashiva}} I have noticed this in many articles. Like Sarvatra, I'm also interested in learning where one could find this online.
Thanks! - Zwerubae

Hello! Gazette of India notices are available at '''egazette.nic.in'''

For Defence Ministry notifications in particular, proceed to "Search Gazette," then "Search by Gazette Category" then under Gazette Category select "Weekly Gazette." Under Part & Section, select "Part I-Section 4" and select your desired date range. Via the site, MoD notifications are generally available from 1949 through the present, though there are some gaps from the 1950s and 1960s.

As I've also found recently, the Gazette of India is also archived on archive.org

Aumnamahashiva (talk) 02:09, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

I had commented on your page, moving the comments to talk page.

Hello, thanks for your edits for Indian military figures. Wanted to ask how you know which Gazette of India issue to look at for promotion dates to Major General, Lt General, etc? Like in the article you created for JS Nain?

I see that the reply you gave to Sarvatra, but I am still curious - how do you know which issue to look for? Do you guess the approximate dates and manually download and check each issue around the time?

Many thanks

Ranban282 (talk) 07:25, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

I usually start by looking up the army officer's service number (ex: IC-41067N for JS Nain) then going to archive.org, selecting "search text contents" then entering the service number, which pulls up the relevant archived ''Gazettes''. To fill in any gaps in the officer's schedule of promotions, yes, I go to the Gazette of India website, select "Weekly Gazette"=> "Part I, Section 4" and manually download and check the issues around the estimated date. You are welcome!

V.M.M. Nair ↗

Hello. It has been almost one month since you nominated the article for DYK, and there have since been a review and multiple comments on the nomination. However, despite these, you have still been unable to respond to the concerns given, and in fact have not edited the article since nominating it. If you still want the nomination to proceed, please respond to the comments as soon as possible so that it can move forward; if you no longer wish to pursue it, please feel free to inform the reviewers of this. If there is no forthcoming response for you within the next few days, the nomination may unfortunately be marked for closure as abandoned. Thank you and happy editing. Narutolovehinata5 tc ↗csd ↗new ↗ 10:59, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
:Please note that it is not enough to make edits to the article for DYK, you need to respond on the nomination page ↗, something you have yet to do although the nomination has been open for a full month. If we don't hear from you there soon, the nomination will have to be closed. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:43, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

:{{u|ILoveEatingBats}}, ''usually'' editors are allowed to seek the input from other users for a discussion at other places but care must be taken that the entire discussion takes place at one talk page to maintain readability. It is therefore advisable that you link to the main discussion when asking users for input at their personal talk pages even if there haven't been any replies there. I just did that for you since you are a relatively new editor. Sorry, {{u|Aumnamahashiva}} for using your talk space. The article :Dungar Singh ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗&#32;because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''unsourced'''</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist.
