Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, the introduction of inappropriate pages, such as :Anna Sinyakina ↗, is considered vandalism ↗ and is prohibited. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox ↗. Repeated vandalism may result in the '''loss of editing privileges''' ↗. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Introduction to contentious topics
{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to '''Eastern Europe or the Balkans''', a topic designated as '''contentious ↗'''. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as ''contentious topics''. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics ''procedures'' you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard ↗ or you may learn more about this contentious topic here ↗. Thank you for your redirects
Hello, I noticed the redirects that you've been working on and I wanted to say thank you. I'm not sure how you're going about it, but out of curiosity I wanted to see what was left, and I created a permanent link for you {{oldid2|1256788932|here}} if you're also curious and didn't already know. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:41, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
:Firstly, thanks for creating the permanent link. It will most definitely speed up the process of creating the redirects.
:Secondly, to answer your question, it's a manual process. I copy the redirect name and then the article content (e.g. REDIRECT<nowiki>April 1 (Eastern Orthodox liturgics) ↗</nowiki>) from a Chrome tab each and create the redirect name. Most probably it is possible for a bot to do my job, but I have zero coding or tech experience besides being able to interact with the UI of any website, so I'm doing it manually, one by one. It shouldn't be take that long in the grand scheme of things.
:Again, thank you very much for the permanent link and you're welcome! May God bless you! 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 15:47, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

:If this is the correct medium to provide evidence, there are about 18,300 results according to this Google search ↗ once accounting for people with the name, although there're likely more results elsewhere because this is an informal insult that is also the actual name of a bunch of regular people, unlike for example "Dictator Trudeau ↗" which is easier to find results for. I just restored your edit ↗ on Irenaeus ↗ that was reverted by User:Remsense

:Your personal impression of candor is not sufficient, given the end point is improving the encyclopedia an you take responsibility for the merits of material you restore. ::Your response consists of boilerplate general allegations, without any to-the-point refute. If you want to keep your edit (like anyone else who wants to keep their edits), please provide a valid reason. I simply have a tendency to revert any edit (themselves revert or not) that involves unexplained non-trivial change.
::No, I do not have the full responsibility of the restored material, since I am reverting your revert, not making the reverted edit myself. I disagree only with your revert, and reserve my stance at keeping or deleting the content they added/changed. I prefer to leave it to others that are both civil and knowledgable in this field. Please take some time to reflect on this part of your logic. ''"Please don't let your misgivings with me make the encyclopedia worse."'' ask yourself, is this sentence really necessary? Even if there exists some personal prejudice, it is because of I think you are making it worse. Why would I make it worse to retaliate against you? The logic does not work. You talk of cherry-picking, but you may have ignored the countless edits you have made that I did not choose to revert because I think you are doing a good job.
::An advice to avoid making disputes less civil and less productive: when you reply to others, you may want to reread it as if you are making a edit of being bold, and someone sent you this.
::P.S. I almost missed this reply of yours because I do not actively watch talk pages. I got no notification either. Make sure to ping me next time. Hym3242 (talk) 12:58, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

::::@Hym3242 and @Remsense I think it's due time that we get into the specifics of my edit on St. Irenaeus.
::::What my edit did was:
::::# added an undocumented parameter "honorific_suffix" to make the text "of Lyon" appear under "Irenaeus" in the infobox instead of beside it (my reason given was "'''of Lyon' is not part of his personal name''")
::::# I added his saint titles, particularly the Orthodox ones, in the infobox (Venerable ↗, Hieromartyr ↗, and Church Father ↗) '''These are actual saint titles that have their own Wikipedia articles for crying out loud''', Remsense. I also changed "Bishop of Lyon", instead of just "Bishop"
::::# I changed the short description to replace "Doctor of the Church" with "Church Father" (the former being a distinctly Roman Catholic title, the latter being shared by RCs, Orthodox and a few Protestants here and there) to be more neutral/have equal coverage (I forgot the exact term to describe this practice)
::::Now what have I done here (and similarly done in other saint articles which Remsense has likewise reverted mostly without reason given) to "make the encyclopedia worse"? The infobox is typically the first read section of an article, and having basic information such as saint titles is important, and likewise is equal coverage. '''I also formally deny Remsense's allegation of attempting WP:POINT ↗ across multiple articles''' since "editors engaging in 'POINTy' behavior are making edits with which they do not actually agree, for the deliberate purpose of drawing attention and provoking opposition in the hopes of making other editors see their 'point'." I do agree with my edits and there are no editors I am trying to show my "point".
::::This sort of reminds me of that time ↗ a certain administrator decided to simply remove vital info from election infoboxes for the ultimate reason of "it looks ugly".
::::Hopefully we can conclude this discussion all on good terms pronto. I also think we should continue any further discussions on the talk page ↗ of Irenaeus instead of my talk page, as other editors can jump in to opine and provide to the discussion.
::::Cheers! 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 11:37, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

Stop inserting "Roman Catholic"
There are very rare circumstances where ''Roman Catholic'' is an appropriate disambiguation, particularly rare on articles about medieval figures. Your insistence on the term is out of step with convention and consensus. ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:01, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

::Talk:Catholic Church ↗ has long ago established "Catholic Church", "Catholic", and "Catholicism" as the conventional terminology. This has been confirmed in recent RfCs, such as one regarding retitled diocesan articles on the WikiProject Catholicism talk page you just commented on. Unilateral insertion of "Roman" is confusing, as it can lead to confusion regarding whether the intended reference is to the church as a whole or the Latin Church ↗ more narrowly. A more pertinent disambiguation would be "Eastern Orthodox" or "Oriental Orthodox" from "Orthodox", which you appear to generally avoid disambiguating. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:15, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
:::@Pbritti, thanks for informing me. I know that in many dictionaries "Roman Catholic" and variants can refer to either to the entire 24 autocephalous churches in communion with the pope or else just the largest, Latin one. It most certainly can be confusing for the unaware.
:::Regarding EO and OO, generally I always make sure to state "EO" and not just "O" referring to "EO" (after all, making "Orthodox" a piped link to "Eastern Orthodox" is more difficult than just making a regular wikilink to "Eastern Orthodox") however in the past I may have done so ignorantly.
:::Regards, 𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 20:25, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Thanks for your understanding. To be clear, "Roman Catholic" is wholly acceptable in circumstances where conflation with other groups like Old Catholics or Independent Catholics is likely. Thank you for you '''absolutely exceptional''' work on Eastern Orthodox saints. You're really a major asset to this project with your expertise in this field. ~ Pbritti (talk) 20:29, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::@Pbritti, thank you for your recognition of my work; I wish I had more help on it more than the occasional user dropping in to add a saint here or there but it is what it is. I'm simply surprised how rarely it gets edited (ignore my edits and it's a barren wasteland; there was one guy a while back who added a bunch of entries individually). To be clear, support means that "Trump" would redirect to "Donald Trump" instead of being a disambiguation page. If you changed your mind, that's fine. Malerisch (talk) 18:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Marko Arnautović ↗
Hi Bis-Serjetà?,
Just a friendly reminder, the lede can not contain Serbo-Austrian ↗ as it violates Wikipedia policy, specifically MOS:CITIZEN ↗ and MOS:OVERLINK ↗. Arnautović is listed as Austrian in the lede as similar to Mesut Özil ↗, he plays for the country he was born in and that his heritage is sufficiently mentioned in the early life section. By no means is it done to downplay his Serbian heritage, but it is done to adhere to Wikipedia policy.
