:I am honestly quite surprised that my submission got noticed ''so..'' ''quickly'', but perhaps that is due to the fact that I had gone for articles high up on WP:WANTED ↗'s list, when I was searching for articles to create. -BlueEleephant (talk) 17:49, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
::Hi @BlueEleephant. Nothing to it, I just clicked ''Random draft'' to review, and yours happened to come up. <span style="background-color: RoyalBlue; border-radius: 1em; padding: 3px 3px 3px 3px;">'''<span style="color: GhostWhite">qcne</span>''' <small><span style="color: GhostWhite">(talk)</span></small></span> 17:52, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
:::Oh, okay. I just checked at WP:AFC again and I realized the odds that my draft would have been noticed so quickly are about a {{fraction|1|80}} chance, considering that there are ~500 AfC submissions that still haven't been reviewed... -BlueEleephant (talk) 18:08, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
::::Last month the backlog was 3,500 unreviewed drafts, so you submitted at a good time. :) <span style="background-color: RoyalBlue; border-radius: 1em; padding: 3px 3px 3px 3px;">'''<span style="color: GhostWhite">qcne</span>''' <small><span style="color: GhostWhite">(talk)</span></small></span> 18:10, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::''Oh.'' Is the "It may take 2-3 weeks for your draft to be reviewed." message intended for when there are several thousand unreviewed drafts, or several hundred? -BlueEleephant (talk) 18:12, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
::::::That is just an estimate - when there are several thousand unreviewed draft the message changes to "2-3 months". It just so happened I came across yours and reviewed it. It's not a queue, they're mostly reviewed in random order. <span style="background-color: RoyalBlue; border-radius: 1em; padding: 3px 3px 3px 3px;">'''<span style="color: GhostWhite">qcne</span>''' <small><span style="color: GhostWhite">(talk)</span></small></span> 19:05, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
:::::::Oh, I know the submissions are reviewed in a random order, I was wondering if that message mean that it could take 2 weeks to review 800 drafts, or 8,000 drafts. But, it is good to know that the message changes, because reviewing ''800'' drafts is nowhere near as easy as reviewing ''8,000'' drafts. -BlueEleephant (talk) 19:43, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
::::::::Indeed! We're currently in a backlog drive, so much more reviewers are happening than normal. <span style="background-color: RoyalBlue; border-radius: 1em; padding: 3px 3px 3px 3px;">'''<span style="color: GhostWhite">qcne</span>''' <small><span style="color: GhostWhite">(talk)</span></small></span> 19:46, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

efn

Regular citations are rendered by {reflist} or {reflist-talk}, but even if you forget to invoke those, the software knows to barf the citations out at the end of the page anyway, automatically. But efns are rendered by {notelist} or {notelist-talk}, and if you forget to invoke ''those'', then (unlike with regular citations) the software ''won't'' automatically render them. They'll just be invisible.

The citation machinery is full of confusing stuff like that. You just have to slog through things as you learn all the ins and outs. <b style="color:red;">E</b><b style="color:blue;">Eng</b> 19:44, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
:Ohhh, okay, I don't think I've ever been aware of {{notelist ↗}} before, even though the name should be a pretty obvious one to search, especially since I have seen what it does before. The thing that tripped me up to making all 4 of those erroneous edits is the "Show Preview" button showing the note as appearing at the bottom of the page on the first edit, which confused me quite a bit, leading to the other 3. Regardless, thanks for the information! - BlueEleephant (talk · contribs ↗) 21:42, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
::Amazing the characters that hang about at Talk:MOS, isn't it? BTW, you might want to take a look at WP:MISSSNODGRASS ↗, WP:MOSBLOAT ↗, WP:YOURMAJESTYYOURSLIPISSHOWING ↗, WP:Iron Law of Infobox Ubiquity ↗ (note capitalization), WP:Location, location, location! ↗, and WP:DIFFUSINGCONFLICT ↗. <b style="color:red;">E</b><b style="color:blue;">Eng</b> 21:26, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::<small>Ironically, I think I have seen every one of those at one point in time besides the Iron Law of Infobox Ubiquity, and MOSBLOAT; I will go take a much more thorough look at those once I get done writing another reply. Thanks for the suggestions!</small> - BlueEleephant (talk · contribs ↗) 21:33, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

3nd

Take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?limit=500&fulltext=1&ns0=1&profile=advanced&search=insource%3A%2F%5B%5Ea-z%5D%5B0-9%5D*3nd%5B%5Ea-z0-9%5D%2Fi&title=Special%3ASearch . I've reduced it only down to Article space, and used a search similar to the one I mentioned over on the talk page. It is only 62, and it looks like abou 80% of them need to be fixed. Is that a place where you'd like to start?Naraht (talk) 03:25, 6 June 2026 (UTC)

:(Keep in mind that there are possibly well over 100 entries listed at Commonly misspelled English words#Documented list of common misspellings ↗, so "3nd" is just one of the advanced searches to be done abut these, but thanks for the link!)
:A quick glance of the advanced search and.. oh lord, that's a <em>lot</em> of typos; I may not have time today as I will need to go to bed soon, but I will certainly work on grinding down that list like a beaver gnawing at a tree tomorrow. - BlueEleephant (talk · contribs ↗) 03:32, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
::My personal Bete Noir in terms of mispellings is "John Hopkins University" (vs. Johns Hopkins University ↗) Doesn't help that there are real people named "John Hopkins". (And I even find *that* mispelling in references on non-english wikipedias) Have fun. And the best part is the trees keep growing. :) Naraht (talk) 03:41, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
:{{done}}, although I think I went a little too fast for <em>42 edits</em>, as I didn't realize that a few of my edit summaries were partially misleading; e.g. there were a few times I had to correct "23nd" to "23rd", yet I still used the same edit summary of {{tq|fixed typo: ("3nd" to "3rd")}}. {{break}}
:Not only is editing quickly rather tiring, (which I learned today, despite having fixed over 100 typos before here) it'd be better anyways to slow down editing to only one per minute, so I could adjust my edit summary to whatever string I am actually fixing, (e.g. ''53nd'' isn't the same as ''3nd''.) not to mention that there is no deadline ↗. - BlueEleephant (talk · contribs ↗) 17:45, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
::Edit: I somehow forgot to add that I skipped possibly a dozen entries where "3nd" appeared as {{tqq|3nd ed[ition]}}, or {{break}} "<code>|edition= 3nd</code>", as I figured those would need a lengthier process to figure out if they are actually typos: if I recall correctly, there were 3 instances where I checked the cited source to see if {{!tqq|3nd}} was an actual typo, and 2 times it was not, one of which was a "3nd edition" of something ''actually'' being listed as the "3nd" edition. - BlueEleephant (talk · contribs ↗) 17:59, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
::Yeah, 3nd edition is ugly. I looked at some of the 2st and made a mistake "fixing" 42st to 42nd in a complxed template about the NY subway only to find out that 42st was actually an indicator as to whether or not 42nd street station should somehow be shown. A few months ago, I decided (with the assent of WP:FRAT ↗) to *completely* remove a book from being mentioned in references by making templates for each of its editions. :Template:Bairds01 ↗ through :Template:Bairds20 ↗. That got interesting keeping track of numbers. :) (It is *the* primary reference book for fraternities and sororites, so used in hundreds of places across the editions).
