Yes the InterCity 125 IS the world's fastest diesel train
There have been claims that the record set by that train has been broken, but these were never proven. To prove that the InterCity 125 is NOT the world's fastest diesel train, those claims must first be proven to be correct. They haven't, so the InterCity 125 is the world's fastest diesel train. Simples! Captain Cornwall (talk) 19:54, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, that is not the way Wikipedia works. You have to verify all that you claim. Sorry. Bhtpbank (talk) 21:54, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

:I have no personal animosity against you and certainly would not want any sort of "revenge" even if such was in my power, which it is not. :I have no objection to anything that is supported by a citation to a reliable source. I strongly object to changing the article to say something that the existing source does not say. Get a better source or leave the article alone. --Guy Macon (talk) 01:02, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
::I did make that edit, but there was a perfectly valid reason for it. River Severn ↗ - Longest UK river
Hi, There's a bit more to this than you might think. Over on Longest rivers of the United Kingdom ↗ it explains:
the Thames ↗ tributary, the River Churn ↗, sourced at Seven Springs, adds {{convert|14|mi|km}} to the length of the Thames (from its traditional source at Thames Head). The Churn ↗/Thames' length at {{convert|229|mi|km}} is therefore greater than the Severn ↗'s length of {{convert|220|mi|km|0}}. Thus, the combined Churn/Thames river would top the list. Sue Owen et al., in their book on rivers, generally restrict the length to the parts that bear the same name. Thus the River Nene is quoted at {{convert|100|mi|km}}, but would be around {{convert|5|mi|km|0}} more if the variously named sources were included. Many of the above lengths are considerably different from Sue Owen's list, some longer and some shorter.

Where a river ends in an estuary the conventional British approach has been to treat the river as ending at the end of the administrative zone. Thus the Severn ends at the mouth of the Bristol Avon ↗ and the Thames at the Yantlet Line ↗. The currently accepted end of the Severn Estuary is about {{convert|18.5|mi|km}} further, and the PLA's ↗ authority stretches now to Margate, {{convert|30|mi|km}} further. Other countries have different conventions, making comparisons of limited value.

OTOH, I agree that seeming to be unsure without explaining why is not satisfactory. Cavrdg (talk) 08:46, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon|link= ↗ Hello. I have noticed that you {{usertalk other|Cornwall|PATH}} often ↗|often}} edit without using an edit summary ↗. Please do your best to '''always fill in the summary field'''. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences ↗. Thanks! Danners430 (talk) 14:39, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
:Hi @Captain Cornwall, I’m noticing you’re continuing to edit without edit summaries - please include them wherever possible. Danners430 (talk) 17:32, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
::@Captain Cornwall you’re still refusing to use edit summaries. Please use them whenever possible. Danners430 (talk) 21:45, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
:::@Captain Cornwall you are still regularly editing without edit summaries. Why? Danners430 (talk) 17:38, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Mr Danners, Sir. I am aware of the date of your most recent mention of this whole edit summary issue. However:
::::As you can see, I do use an edit summary when I can think of one. But I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I am, in fact, autistic. So sometimes it's not very easy for me to come up with a good edit summary to put. Furthermore, I am unable to promise that my view of what constitutes an obvious reason for an edit will align with the view taken by others.
::::Thank you for your understanding. Captain Cornwall (talk) 18:55, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::It’s not hard to add a very basic summary to edits - “add content”, “alter source”… “ce” (copy edit)… it doesn’t need to be war and peace, but something is required. Danners430 (talk) 19:09, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::While I do admit that not all of my recent edits have summaries, I believe that it is a fair comment to say that I have been making an effort, especially when I recognise a possibility of an edit being controversial (the guidelines do acknowledge that an edit summary may not be necessary if the reason for an edit is obvious). I would like to emphasise that I always make sure to specify a reason when I use the Undo feature (even if the edit that I'm reverting could be considered as possible vandalism), as I recognise that this is one situation where providing an edit summary is especially important. I'm sure most Wikipedia editors will agree with me on this. Captain Cornwall (talk) 16:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
::::::Anyway, the conclusion is that there is work in progress on this front, and it will remain an ongoing matter. For me, that is. Captain Cornwall (talk) 09:09, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

Your edit to Ned Kelly
Hello there
I changed the lead to "police-murderer" rather than "convicted police murderer". At first I didn't see your point, but now I do. His formal conviction was for murder, not "police murder". Nevertheless, I think it is accurate and relevant to point out that it was policemen that he murdered. The sources also call him a police murderer. Happy to discuss on the article Talk page. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 00:47, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
:I have given some careful consideration to this matter. I now consider that details of his specific crimes, while possibly suitable for the lead, aren't necessary in the first sentence. Captain Cornwall (talk) 21:03, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
