Longest flights ↗ and "unticketable"
Hello DigitalExpat ↗! Thanks for your many improvements to the Longest flights ↗ article. I am an aviation industry fan (having flown transport-category aircraft) but I'm sure I don't know the industry as you do. Still, I did some searches and couldn't find "unticketable" in use. Are you sure that it's an industry term? It's certainly not an English-language word. Even if it were an industry term (and even if it were an obscure English word), since it's not a word in use in English more generally, it could be jarring to many readers (who aren't industry insiders) as a non-standard word. It was jarring to me, and I am a casual observer of commercial aviation. Our audience contains many people who do not know all the jargon of the industry. Having said all that, we would need to find a way to express what you communicated in your change explanation: that the flights are being flown, but not regularly scheduled or sold. I'm not sure I understand as well as you do exactly what the status of some of the flights is. Cheers! Holy (talk) 18:05, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
Question on nonstop SIN-LAX route using ULR
Hello DigitalExpat. So you reverted my edit here ↗ on the longest flights ↗ article, is there a reason why you think that Singapore Airlines operating the nonstop Singapore-Los Angeles (SIN-LAX) route is not using the Airbus A350-900ULR (Ultra Long Range) aircraft at this time? Since the nonstop SIN-LAX route is longer than the nonstop Singapore-San Francisco (SIN-SFO) route via crossing the Pacific Ocean within the great circle route, they should be using the ULR aircraft on the SIN-LAX route as well instead of the regular, non-ULR A350-900. The airline utilized the ULR aircraft on that route since November 2018 before the pandemic. --<span style="color: #00f;">Allen</span> (talk / ctrb ↗) 17:05, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
:@Allen2 Hi Allen! Always great to meet a fellow wiki contributor! Yes, SQ did use to use an ULR on the SIN-LAX route but has since stopped. (note that SQ operates 4 "different" configurations of A350s but, only ULR gets a different ICAO identifier). ( I'm on mobile at the moment and can't find the press coverage of when they stopped the 1x daily ULR route to LAX) but there are some very good clues to show that LAX has no ULR service on SQ36 or SQ38: (1) look at the equipment being used on the flights - none of them are the registration numbers of the 7 ULRs that exist in the world ( see list here - https://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Singapore%20Airlines-active-a350.htm ) and also another clue is you can search for seats available on the 2 daily flights and you get Y class availability - ULRs have no Y class :) (only PEY). Yes you're right about the distance being greater than SFO, but then again SQ was flying non-ULRs all the way to the East Coast previously, so load factor, cargo capacity, and product pricing I'm guessing probably overrule any distance limitations :) cheers and all the best! Thank you for your edits on aviation articles
Hi DigitalExpat.
I would just like to thank you for the amount of effort and research that has been put into improving the many aviation-related articles you have edited, having added missing portions and tidying up things. Keep up the great work and continue to improve information on Wikipedia.
Thanks,
Holden. HoldenFan1104 (talk) 11:39, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
:Wow, Thanks @HoldenFan1104! Your quality contributions (and everyone's contributions!) make Wikipedia such a great reliable source of information, looking forward to keeping on building it together with you! DigitalExpat (talk) 18:29, 19 June 2026 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style ↗ that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in :Longest flights ↗, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page ↗ to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. :Hello @Danners430! Thanks for your message and making sure we keep Wikipedia articles aligned with MOS - in this case i even reread the MOS on Flags and certainly keen to understand your point as even the article says: "[...] They should provide additional useful information on the article subject, serve as visual cues that aid the reader's comprehension" and the very given example #2 in the MOS of List of WPA World Nine-ball champions ↗ seems to deploy the flags to excellent use to further the article's comprehension. The use of the flags that are in this article has always provided context for readers to provide greater context to the city pairs and countries being connected in my opinion. Suggest we open up a Talk topic on the article's talk page to get more input on this (and as it is relatively inactive, we can also seek outside input from the best general Wikipedia general input on the matter as more minds the better to make Wikipedia the best if can be (eg from the MOS article talk page or the TeaHouse?) I will copy and paste this over to the article talk page and revert the changes whilst there can be a healthy discussion on the matter, I appreciate your experience and opinions, cheers Danners430! ::The matter of flags in lists like this was previously discussed in the context of airport statistics, which I would argue is broadly similar. That discussion was at Talk:Amsterdam Airport Schiphol ↗ - User:10mmsocket is probably better placed to explain the issue with flags, as he's been at it much longer than I have <span class="nowrap"><span style="color: RebeccaPurple">Danners430</span> tweaks made ↗</span> 16:10, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Ah okay thanks for this reference, I will head over to read it now as I hadn't seen this one before - will go read now, thanks!
:::And I certainly appreciate your efforts, not to spar with you but as this article has had it for 5 years (which doesn't make it right), but while it is being discussed, have reverted article to stable state of those last 5+ years from the previous editors with flags, I opened the talk topic as well about it to get a great group answer on this, thanks @Danners430! DigitalExpat (talk) 16:15, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Thanks for sharing the link to that AMS and DTW talk pages, good to see conversation started on the matter. As this is at minimum an inconsistency now across a number of articles all in the WP Group of Aviation, I would think that a WP Aviation Group topic would the ideal place to seek consensus (and uniformity) on this...what would think of this? I'm afraid the the Longest Flight article's talk page is very low traffic unfortunately (the edit frequency to the longest flights topic and variety of editors is below what I would consider average for an ideal WP article - would you be open with me opening a topic on the WP Aviation Group page to seek a better quality consensus on this that we can all make sure articles can benefit from for the better of WIkipedia? Thanks @Danners430 again. DigitalExpat (talk) 16:25, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Absolutely no harm in advertising the discussion at the appropriate WikiProject :) <span class="nowrap"><span style="color: RebeccaPurple">Danners430</span> <sub>tweaks made ↗</sub></span> 16:26, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::FYI - I have copy pasted my reply into your reply on the article talk page ↗ to help to merge/give greater visibility to the conversation and good points being made :) DigitalExpat (talk) 16:28, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:PS - Thanks for the warm welcome to Wikipedia - my first 6 years here as a contributor are indeed early days so far! :) (you have 8 years my senior here as a wikipedia contributor so I shall I aspire to join you in the #14yearold club here as soon as I can! ;) DigitalExpat (talk) 16:04, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
::Aye apologies - it's what the level 1 notice about MOS says… I didn't really want to post a level 2 notice! <span class="nowrap"><span style="color: RebeccaPurple">Danners430</span> <sub>tweaks made ↗</sub></span> 16:08, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Ha, I appreciate it and totally understand :) It's a pain to do manual notices, I use those automatic notices myself - they save the fingers from typing! DigitalExpat (talk) 16:16, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
