Welcome to the drive ↗!
Welcome to the drive! One editor cannot solve the whole backlog, but together we can do so much more. There are a lot of uncited articles that are about insects, such as these that you can test out your citation skills:

One source tag
Hello, a quick reminder that {{tl|one source}} ({{tq|this article relies largely or entirely on a single source}}) is a cleanup tag for articles that cite just one source, ''and that's a problem''. Quoting from the template documentation:
<blockquote>A single source is usually less than ideal, because a single source may be inaccurate or biased. Without other sources for corroboration, accuracy or neutrality may be suspect. [...] Citing only one source is not a violation of any policy. Consider not adding this tag to stubs, articles that are being actively expanded, or articles that have no apparent problems with verifiability and neutrality.</blockquote>
If the cited source is reliable, fully verifies ↗ the content in the article, and does not raise any potential issues of neutral point of view ↗, it's not a problem. This is often the case with stubs or short articles on uncontroversial topics. Since the purpose of citations is to allow readers to verify the contents of an article, asking creators to add redundant additional citations is not going to improve it, and in some cases might damage it (by obscuring the actual source of information).<!-- Copied from Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers/Archive 49#Articles with a single source --> – <b style="color:black; font-family: Tahoma">DreamRimmer</b> ('''talk''') 09:06, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
:Oh, my mistake, I was under the impression that pretty much any article relying solely on one source was inherently considered to be somewhat unreliable/undesirable and in need of at least one additional independent source for verification. Are there any particular articles I ought to remove the tag from? Ethmostigmus (talk) 09:22, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
::I haven't had the chance to go through every article you tagged, so it would be great if you could double-check and remove any unnecessary tags. – <b style="color:black; font-family: Tahoma">DreamRimmer</b> ('''talk''') 09:27, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Ethmostigmus brownii
Hi, {{Reply to|Ethmostigmus}} to highlight i just removed the line for Ethmostigmus brownii (Butler,1877) from your namesake taxonpage. I did that following notion on Chilobase 2.0. - which says its a synonym of Ethmostigmus rubripes Newport, 1845, although im wary as saw other bits that were not well updated, but see Chilobase link ↗

Species list template
Hi {{u|Ethmostigmus}}! Do you know about the {{tl|Species list}} template? It and its relatives make long lists of taxa so simple. I found out about it quite by accident a few years ago. It automatically italicizes species and infraspecies names properly, and it prints authors in small font. It has a parameter for hiding and one to set a header. It beats adding all the bullet points and formatting manually. – Elizabeth (Eewilson) <small>(tag or ping me) (talk)</small> 07:11, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Flameflower (fameflower)
I removed the redlinks because I found a reference<ref>{{citation |url=http://www.npsnm.org/pubpdfs/20.pdf |journal=The New Mexico Botanist |title=''Phemeranthus'' and ''Talinum'' (Portulacaceae) in New Mexico |author=David J. Ferguson |date=December 10, 2001 |volume=20 |pages=1–7 |access-date=9 April 2015}}</ref> that said that a common name for ''Phemeranthus'' is "fameflower", which is often altered to "flameflower". I thought it would be better to include the genus because of this, but I was trying to keep the species that you originally listed (that I found an image for). Perhaps we can just list the genus? Or perhaps all of the species with "fameflower" in their common names? Or perhaps drop ''Phemeranthus'' entirely because they should be "fameflower" not "flameflower"? What do you think?
(I have a strange fondness for plants ↗ in family Montiaceae ↗) — hike395 (talk) 06:05, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
:Later -- the only species of ''Phemeranthus'' that isn't known as a "fameflower" is ''Phemeranthus parviflorus ↗'' (according to the WP article at least). This makes me think we should either list the genus, or perhaps just drop it. — hike395 (talk) 06:09, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
::Cheers for reaching out! There's some variation between fame/flameflower among the ''Phemeranthus ↗'', however, the species that I redlinked all use a variation on the common name '''flame'''flower (with an L) on NatureServe ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.133284/Phemeranthus_brevifolius ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.147532/Phemeranthus_humilis ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.142179/Phemeranthus_longipes ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.151424/Phemeranthus_marginatus ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.1194200/Phemeranthus_rhizomatus ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.128515/Phemeranthus_spinescens ↗https://explorer.natureserve.org/Taxon/ELEMENT_GLOBAL.2.146279/Phemeranthus_validulus ↗, which was my rationale for their inclusion (in addition to the WP:SIA ↗ guidance that redlinks should be included). NatureServe only really accounts for US/Canadian species, but the other ''Phemeranthus'' species (and species of ''Talinum ↗'') listed there seem to use '''fame'''flower (without the L). It's a bit of a mess. Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 06:19, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Hello, fellow Melburnian bird nerd. Wanna chat?
I don't have that many friends interested in birding, and you seem like a cool dude. Up to talk about things? Zepherite (talk) 07:00, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
:Absolutely! I'm a bit of a shut-in, so I don't have that many friends interested in birds either to be honest. Not sure what your experience level is (personally, I've been birding for years but consider myself a perpetual amateur!) but, if you're not aware of it already, you might be interested in the BirdLife Melbourne chapter ↗. They run outings in and around Melbourne fairly regularly, and if you're able to get out to one it's a good opportunity to meet local birders. I'm not on Facebook, but my friends who are say there are a few decent birding groups that I can pass on to you if you're interested. Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 11:09, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
::I'll be glad to hear your recommendations. I'm pretty new to birding and ornithology as a whole, so I'll take any tips you might have. Zepherite (talk) 13:28, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Oh, fantastic! If you're not on there already, I'd suggest joining eBird ↗ to record your sightings and keep track of the species you've seen. I'd also highly suggest picking up a copy of CSIRO ↗'s Australian Bird Guide ↗ - it's pretty much the Aussie birding bible, and makes for a great resource for Wikipedia too. Not sure if you're a driver or not, but if not, you'll probably find the Melbourne birdwatching without a car ↗ site helpful. If you have a car, the Western Treatment Plant ↗ is probably the best birding site within an hour of the CBD. It's closed to the general public so you need to apply for a key from Melbourne Water ↗, but it is well worth it. Closer to Melbourne, I also recommend the Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve in Williamstown, Royal Park ↗ in Parkville, Yarra Bend Park ↗ in Fairfield (or any of the other parks along the Yarra eg. Yarra Flats and Banyule Flats further north, all are pretty decent), and the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens ↗. Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 02:35, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
::::This is a lot of very helpful information, thank you! Do you have any recommendations for winter-time bird watching? I'm currently on a work trip abroad and will be coming back around July, so I'm just wondering where the good spots for birding are during the winter. Zepherite (talk) 08:12, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::I'll admit I'm mostly a spring/summer birder, but off the top of my head you've got the Tasmanian migrants escaping the southern winter, eg. swift parrot ↗s, orange-bellied parrot ↗s, grey fantail ↗ ssp. albiscapa, etc, and the altitudinal migrants coming down from the alpine zone eg. some of the ''Petroica ↗'' robins. Swift and orange-bellied parrots are both critically endangered (swift parrot numbers in the hundreds, orange-bellied parrot numbers in the tens) and need to be observed with great care so as not to be disturbed - swifties can be seen at several sites throughout Victoria, going wherever flowering gum trees can be found, but orange-bellies can pretty much only be seen at the Western Treatment Plant and surrounds and may require a spotting scope ↗ so they can be seen from a distance. Robins are best seen in bushland and forests, places like Plenty Gorge Park ↗ or Nangak Tamboree Sanctuary in Bundoora. If there are particular birds you're interested in seeing, setting up eBird alerts ↗ for them may be helpful. Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 09:05, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::Thank you for replying, these are actually some very useful tips which I'll be taking note of for later. I'm very grateful for the time you took to write all this out :) Zepherite (talk) 18:12, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

A Little Tribute to You and Christine
Hi Ethmostigmus,
It was such a pleasure meeting you and your amazing mom Christine at Wikimania! I truly enjoyed our conversation—it was brief but incredibly inspiring.
I’ve written a short blog post reflecting on that moment and celebrating both of you -->> https://muddyb255.wordpress.com/2025/08/08/natasha-christine-the-dynamic-duo/. Your dedication to Wikipedia and your love for nature really stood out to me, and I felt compelled to share that experience with others. Muddyb (talk) 17:01, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
:@Muddyb Mohamed, you are too kind! It's meeting lovely people like yourself that has made my first Wikimania such a special experience. My mum really is my best friend, so it's been amazing to share this experience with her. Thank you so, so much for your kind words - we're looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow, and hopefully we will have the chance to meet again at future events. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you :) Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 19:25, 8 August 2025 (UTC)

Buellia oidalea ↗
Hi, @Ethmostigmus! You reverted my removal of the close paraphrasing ↗ tag on the above article on the grounds that it needs to be rewritten because it's overly technical. I think so too, but this is not a copyright violation. Tagging it as such makes it less likely for the true problem to be addressed. Copyright violation is a legal issue and I'm working through a backlog of reports. That's why I'm not taking the time for ancillary difficulties I come across and why I'm undoing your reversion. Your reversion shows you care about Wikipedia and that made me happy; I'm not trying to get into an edit war with you, we're allies! Somewhere there's a list of templates and the one that best fits your needs is probably there...
I can almost hear the copyright violations jeering from their den of infamy, so I'm off to continue the fight. Kudos for caring the way you do. Stay fabulous! Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 20:10, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

Regarding See also section on Mouthwashing
Regarding the removal of the See also section on page Mouthwashing, you said, verbatim, "''Signalis really isn't relevant to Mouthwashing in any way besides being low poly and being set in space, this is not a substantial enough link to warrant a see also"''
I very much disagree with your opinion. They are both atmospheric psychological horror games with survival horror mechanics and narrative-driven sci-fi settings, and they also have an notable overlap in fanbases. The fact that they share a similar aesthetic is just the tip of the iceberg on the topic. Some of the only major gameplay differences are that Mouthwashing lacks combat and happens to be in first-person perspective.
I am hopefully expecting a reply that could touch on these points. Damnits (talk) 19:55, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
:Here's the thing: if there's a notable overlap in fanbases, there would be reliable sources covering the overlap. If there isn't, I would not describe it as notable. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 23:06, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
:I've played both games multiple times, so I am aware of their various similarities, but I maintain that there is no substantial enough link between the games to warrant a mention in a See also section. Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 23:12, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
Italic title
Hi Ethmostigmus. I've reverted your removals of the "italic title" template from several GA-class lichen articles; if we don't have the template in there, then the title does not render properly (i.e., italicized) downstream, such as here ↗. Feel free to remove them from non-GA lichen articles, as we (i.e. the lichen task force) probably added them overenthusiastically back in the day, and now only add them for this specific instance. Cheers, Esculenta (talk) 14:22, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
:Thanks for letting me know, I'll make sure to leave this in place on any GAs/FAs I come across. Rather curious that Template:Speciesbox ↗/Template:Automatic taxobox ↗ don't do this on their own - I was under the impression that these templates automatically output Template:Italic title ↗ unless certain conditions are not met, but evidently there is some difference between the italicisation of the automatic taxobox templates and the dedicated italicisation template. Cheers, Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 02:15, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
::I'm not sure what Esculenta is talking about. Everything on the linked recognized content page is italicized by the code on that page (or the code is lacking, and it is not italicized). Automatic taxobox and Speciesbox do automatically italicize the title of genus and species articles under almost all conditions, and manual Taxoboxes usually italicize the title (it is possible to break italics in a manual taxobox by putting a value in {{para|name}}). Plantdrew (talk) 23:02, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
:::The reason they are italicized on the content page is because of the italic title template on the article page. If that template is removed, then the article title becomes unitalicized on the content page the next time the content page gets updated (weekly I think?). Esculenta (talk) 16:10, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
::::{{ping|Esculenta}}, so the bot that updates the content page is adding markup for italics when the italic title template is present in the article? Plantdrew (talk) 17:32, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
:::::Sorry, I know nothing about the specifics of how the bot works, just that the article title gets deitalicised in this content page if there's no template present in the article. Esculenta (talk) 17:35, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

Taxa named by cats
Hi Ethmostigmus, I noticed you had categorized many of Bryant Walker's authored taxa ↗ by common name. Although I doubt there's any documentation about this, I'm pretty sure that this category is to be used for the binomial redirect (he named/authored the binomial, not the common name). The same goes for the year of description, and (AFAIA), the distribution cats, although it seems that this scheme isn't being followed by any of these snail articles. Esculenta (talk) 16:44, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
:My assumption was that it was typical to put the article about a taxon in the relevant year/author categories even if the article is located at a common name title, but I certainly see your point. This seems to be common practice for groups such as mammals and birds where articles about taxa are typically located at a common name rather than a binomial, eg. lion ↗ is in :Category:Animal taxa named by Carl Linnaeus ↗, Cape Barren goose ↗ is in :Category:Taxa named by John Latham (ornithologist) ↗, etc. Honestly, I don't think most of these mollusc articles should be using the common name as the article title anyway, but the issue still stands. I think it's worth starting a discussion at WP:TOL ↗ - if there's consensus on how best to handle these categories in such cases, it should be included in the TOL guidance on categories ↗. I don't have a super strong opinion yet, as I can see sensible arguments for both strict and broad approaches here - I'll keep the articles located at common names in the category for now, but I'm very open to removing them and instead applying these categories to the binomial redirects if there's consensus. Noel Nolmgren
Hi there. First, thanks for reviewing the Noel Herman Holmgren ↗ draft and for your suggestions. I looked around and found some additional sources, which I added in places where there were some concerns. I agree, Holmgrens are not published extensively on the Internet, because they were mostly active in the pre-Internet era. Nevertheless, there are two accurate bios, one on JSTOR and another on the NY Botanical Gardens site. I can imagine that there should be more academic publications in the paper sources, but I don't have access to them. Now to the criteria. In my opinion, there are at least 2 valid criteria of WP:NPROF: 2) Asa Gray Award ↗ is considered the highest (or one of the highest) in Plant Systematics; and he got more smaller awards, there was Gold Medal of The New York Botanical Garden; 8) Holmgren was the editor of the Brittonia ↗ paper for 14 years, and all of the editors of that paper before him are considered notable. Each of these criteria would be enough. In addition to that, he was a curator of the NY Botanical Garden, he named 172 species/subspecies, and after him are named 6 or 7 species, which, in my view, is not small in botany. Also, his accomplishments in science, education, promotion etc are not the highest in the world, but also considerable as a sum. If there are some more suggestions, I can try to fulfil them, otherwise I have already done my best. Thanks for your help. Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 06:00, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
:Hey there! I see you've made some great edits to the draft adding awards Holmgren received and some more footnotes. You are absolutely correct that he meets criterion #8 of WP:NPROF ↗ as a long-serving editor-in-chief of ''Brittonia'' - I don't know ''how'' I missed that when reviewing the draft, but it was absolutely an error on my part, my apologies! I'll go ahead and resubmit the draft so I can accept it. Apologies again for the mistake, and thank you for bringing it to my attention! New Page Review Granted
right|80px ↗
Hi Ethmostigmus, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right ↗ to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation ↗ tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed ↗. If you asked for this at requests for permissions ↗, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.
This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol ↗. Before you get started, please take the time to:
- Add Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers ↗ to your watchlist to follow NPP-related discussions
- If you use Twinkle ↗, configure it ↗ to log your CSDs and PRODs
- If you can read any languages other than English, add yourself to the list of reviewers with language proficiencies ↗
You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources ↗. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! <span style="color:var(--color-warning,#7d5f14)">Sennecaster</span> (<span style="color:var(--color-progressive--hover,#0056a3)">Chat</span>) 19:26, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Heads up on page reviews.
Hi! I've been getting a lot of notifs about you reviewing page moves/redirects I have made following the wake of Korshunova et al. 2025, particularly regarding Eubranchids and Coryphellids. First, I wanted to thank you dearly for checking my work; I am very enthusiastic in keeping taxonomy up to date, but do find myself flying by the seat of my pants sometimes, and it is comforting to know there are extra eyes giving me a stamp of approval, so to speak.
Second, though--I wanted to give you a heads up about maybe not bothering with more Coryphellid redirects until further notice. With the publication of Ekimova et al. 2026, a lot of the recent page moves I have made recently will likely have to soon be reversed (which is what I get for entering this field of study around the time rebuttals against Korshunova et al. 2025 would be dropping, haha).
Still, I might not get around to those immediately as I'm spending today cleaning up after a mess I made by jumping the gun. You can decide for yourself what you will and won't review, but I couldn't in good faith let the Coryphella notifs stack up without giving you a heads up.
The rest of Fionoidea ''sensu'' Korshunova et al. 2025 is still fair game though, no worries there.
Best fishes, 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 Snapplejackalope (talk) 16:51, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hey, no worries, thanks for the heads up! Mollusc articles don't get a lot of attention so your hard work is very much appreciated. No stress whatsoever about needing to reverse some moves, these things happen all the time in taxonomy :) Your page creations are reviewed as part of new pages patrol ↗, which checks that new pages conform to basic content policies ↗, and even redirects that may later be retargeted or expanded into articles can still be marked as reviewed so long as they are plausible redirect/article titles - in this case, validly published taxonomic synonyms are almost always valid for this purpose. MolluscaBase seems to have adopted the revision by Ekimova et al. so I'll step back and just let you cook, but don't worry if you see pages you created still getting marked as reviewed. Keep up the great work and if you need any help feel free to ask me :) Cheers, Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs ↗) 06:33, 3 June 2026 (UTC)

Sea redirects
After I read through your RfD on Sea mushroom ↗, I thought the issue of the several other similarly made-up common name redirects for marine life, is fairly straightforward, and I can start nominating them. But then the issue of multiple temp users adding the terms to articles had to be handled first. I did try with Alcyonium acaule ↗ removing Sea mulberry, but I don't really have the resources to go through every entry, some of them added long back, during article creation itself, and verify if the nicknames are really valid. Sea strawberry ↗ for example, appears to have a valid reference at its target, so we have to assume good faith. However from your user profile, I understand you have the means, and probably the experience, to verify them.<span style="font-family:Segoe Script"> Jay</span> 18:26, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
:Cheers for reaching out - I have been terribly busy these last few weeks so haven't had as much time for Wikipedia as I'd like, so apologies for the late response! I did flag the suspect users and temp accounts with @Asilvering when I realised they were connected to a blocked account. I don't know that much about this situation but as I understand it, this individual is using a large number of sockpuppet accounts and temp accounts (enabled via the use of a VPN) to make both constructive and non-constructive edits. You are correct to note that sea strawberry ↗ actually is a valid redirect, and that it's not the only good redirect created by Editor290439 ↗ (jakfruit ↗ is another one that's perfectly fine), but this mix of constructive and non-constructive edits seems to be typical of this individual. I am currently home sick with rhinovirus ↗ and on the bright side I now have the free time to go through those redirects and manually review their validity, so I should be able to handle them from here!
