CIA World Factbook

At these edits: Ethiopia ↗ and Europe ↗ you created cs1|2 errors by including both {{para|website}} and {{para|work}} parameters. These parameters are aliases of each other so only one is allowed in any single cs1|2 template. I think that {{para|work|CIA World Factbook}} should be preferred over {{para|website|cia.gov}} or {{para|website|CIA.gov}}.

Trappist the monk (talk) 16:11, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

:Thanks for pointing that out and fixing it. — hike395 (talk) 16:15, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Deprecated nationality

Was going to revert this edit ↗ as I imagine it is creating a bunch of unneeded red categories. Since the parameter is deprecated across the board for all wrappers, why not just keep them all in one category? '''<span style="color:#00d5ff">Zack</span><span style="color:#007F94">mann</span>''' (Talk to me ↗/<span style="color:orange">What I been doing</span> ↗) 03:22, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
:{{ping|Zackmann08}} I just finished creating the categories about 1 minute ago. In my experience, when a tracking category has a huge number of entries, it never gets fixed: it's too intimidating. Breaking it down encourages people to start to fix things. I was just about to nibble away at these. — hike395 (talk) 03:25, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
::Fair enough. As long as they are documented. (I recommend adding {{tl|Infobox tracking categories}}) I've got a JWB script I'm running while watching the olympics... :::I used {{tl|Deprecated parameters category}} to all 24 of the tracking categories, which I believe you created. — hike395 (talk) 03:35, 21 February 2026 (UTC)
::::I did! Sorry what I meant is you can use {{tl|Infobox tracking categories}} on documentation pages. :::::Oh gosh, that would have been handy. I just manually added the deprecated parameter category to all 24 doc pages.
:::::I just thought of another good reason to break these out. I want to double-check that {{para|nationality}} isn't actually used in any of the wrapper templates. Implicit parameters inherited from {{tl|Infobox person}} are much less controversial to delete. Explicit documented parameters should probably be left alone until they're discussed at the corresponding Talk page. — hike395 (talk) 03:42, 21 February 2026 (UTC)

Sorry

Hey. So I know I left a detailed response on my talk page, but I wanted to come here and once again just say I'm sorry. You were very on point with your criticisms of me. I also want to genuinely thank you for the way you approached this. Other editors would not have been so kind or assumed good faith the way that you did. This AGF ↗ I DO NOT take for granted. Please know that I have heard (read?) you loud and clear and am rethinking my strategies in multiple ways moving forward.

As I said in my post on my talk page, we have collaborated in the past, and I sincerely hope we will again in the future. Thank you again for the valuable feedback. Hope your wikibreak was a good one. {{smiley}} '''<span style="color:#00d5ff">Zack</span><span style="color:#007F94">mann</span>''' (Talk to me ↗/<span style="color:orange">What I been doing</span> ↗) 07:03, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

Nationality cats

FYI, now that all the subcats you created with this edit ↗ are empty, I am going to revert it. Kudos to you for putting in the legwork to make that happen. I was initially against your idea, but it got cleaned up MUCH faster that way. So, you were right. At this point, the only cat left with more than 2 pages in it is the one for {{tl|Infobox person}}, which we are working on emptying currently. There is still a chance that others will pop up in the coming days, so still want them to get caught by the error check, but no longer a need to have multiple categories. Happy Saturday! '''<span style="color:#00d5ff">Zack</span><span style="color:#007F94">mann</span>''' (Talk to me ↗/<span style="color:orange">What I been doing</span> ↗) 17:50, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
:{{para|nationality}} is still listed as a valid parameter in infobox documentation (e.g., Template:Infobox economist/doc ↗). Before you remove the deprecated parameter sub-categories, you may wish to update the documentation pages to make sure good-faith edits don't produce mysterious errors. It's difficult to predict: the removal of {{para|nationality}} may raise objections from infobox editors — hike395 (talk) 18:16, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
::Crap! Good point!! I will update the relevant documentation pages right now. To be clear, the deprecation is still working. It is just putting them all in 1 category instead of numerous subcategories. Easier to maintain and clean up at this point. But VERY good catch about the documentation! :::{{ping|Zackmann08}} for your convenience, here ↗ is a search for "nationality" in infobox documentation pages. — hike395 (talk) 18:19, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
::::That search is a little too broad as it catches things like film and memorial sites. But I appreciate it! Got a different approach. Doing it now. :::::Interesting... Just ran through all the docs in :Category:Templates calling Infobox person ↗ and none of them still have {{para|nationality}} '''<span style="color:#00d5ff">Zack</span><span style="color:#007F94">mann</span>''' (Talk to me ↗/<span style="color:orange">What I been doing</span> ↗) 18:37, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
::::::That's actually great news! That means it will be uncontentious. Remember to also check :Category:Templates calling Infobox academic ↗. — hike395 (talk) 18:38, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Ran another check on all he relevant doc pages for the templates with cats in :Category:Deprecated parameters ↗ and Economist and Philosopher were the only 2 still with the nationality param. Officeholder still has it but that is a separate project, not a {{tl|Infobox person}} wrapper. Working on removing it there as well in a separate project. Break time but back later! Page mover granted

right|80px ↗
Hello, Hike395. Your account has been <span class="plainlinks">granted ↗</span> the "{{mono|extendedmover}}" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages ↗. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect ↗ and move subpages ↗ when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover ↗ for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect ↗. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures ↗ and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when <code>suppressredirect</code> is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere ↗. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password ↗. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked ↗.

Change to section headings

In :Strand swamp ↗, you changed the section headings at the end of the article with the edit summary "use more standard ref section headers". :Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout ↗ states, "Heading names: Editors may use any reasonable section and subsection names that they choose." I use "Notes" for explanatory notes, if they are present, containing the {{tl|notelist}} template, "References" for in-line citations, containing the {{tl|reflist}} template, and "Sources", or, very recently, "Cited sources", for full citations (I see that I made a typo in Strand swamp, leaving out the 'd'). I have used that pattern for many years, in part because it aligns with the names of the templates, and I see it used in many other articles. I object to the characterization that is less "standard" than other variants. Donald Albury 01:55, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
:I was confused by "Cite sources", and I don't recall seeing "Cited sources". "Cited sources" isn't listed at MOS:NOTES ↗, although "Works cited" is noted. Instead of "cite sources", I went with the most common pair "Notes" and "References", per MOS:NOTES ↗. Any of the choices at MOS:NOTES ↗ would be acceptable to me. — hike395 (talk) 02:37, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

WP:GEONATURAL

I'd suggest you do some researching on the topics you're tagging before adding {{tl|notability}}. There is information available beyond coordinates and statistics for all of the Canadian cinder cones that have articles you tagged. You seem to be tagging them just because they are stubs. '''<i style="color: red;">Volcano</i><i style="color: black;">guy</i>''' 00:56, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

:@Volcanoguy I have been looking on Google Scholar for some of these and not finding anything.
:I wanted to tag the articles to encourage editors (such as yourself) to find more than an entry at Bivouac or BC Geographical Names or Catalogue of Canadian volcanoes. I'm happy to remove any of the tags if we can find information beyond simple statistics.
:if it's easy for you, can you add more references to these articles? — hike395 (talk) 02:25, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

::{{ping|Volcanoguy}} I see you reverted all of the tags. I believe that the tags are justified. I don't want to rush to WP:AFD ↗ to resolve this dispute. If you are very confident that such information is available, could you please supply non-statistical information for these articles, with citations to reliable sources ↗? I would consider the date of the eruption to be statistical information. — hike395 (talk) 02:38, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

:::For Big Timothy Mountain ↗, I just found an interesting thesis that had information about xenoliths. The tag for that article is thus not justified. But I cannot find anything for Kana Cone ↗. — hike395 (talk) 02:51, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

::::More digging around -- found Souther's 1992 treatise about Edziza, which talks about Kana Cone. If you know these kind of references, it would be much better for you to add them, as opposed to a non-expert (me) trying to find them from scratch. — hike395 (talk) 03:25, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

Aiport fixes

Can you check something? this edit ↗ of yours appears to have caused some convert errors ↗. I THINK that the errors are actually because the values supplied on those pages are just bad values... :::Also, I know I pinged you on Template talk:Infobox UNESCO World Heritage Site ↗, but if you have a few minutes to review that sandbox for me I would be very grateful. I don't think there is anything even remotely controversial there. Just the basic cleanup of duplicate parameters and the switch to the pushpin map code (the current Infobox code has TWO location maps... {{facepalm}}). If you feel this one needs a week or two to wait for objections, I'm more than happy to do that as I do realize it is an extensive refactor.
