30px|left|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history at :Grumman J2F Duck ↗ shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war ↗. '''Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing ↗'''&mdash;especially if you violate the three-revert rule ↗, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts ↗ on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring&mdash;'''even if you don't violate the three-revert rule'''&mdash;should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page ↗ to work toward making a version that represents consensus ↗ among editors. See BRD ↗ for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard ↗ or seek dispute resolution ↗. Hi there - I saw you did some page curation at Jennie Allen ↗. The article was created by a user of the same name, which is an almost sure sign of a WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY ↗. Best to leave them a {{tl|uw-autobiography}} notice to let them know that this is frowned upon, and to get them to refrain from making further significant edits to the article.

I'm debating on whether to propose it for deletion, as all the sources are affiliated with her publisher or her non-profit group. --Drm310 (talk) 20:58, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Removing projects

I have removed specific projects from the Historical page for school and university projects because I think that this has been damaging to the projects as they have been singled out for deletion. I am not sure how this kind of thing happens, but to lessen opportunity I deleted specific examples. Makes me sad.

The Reason Why I Reverted At Qilin

I reverted it because a one-line mention of a walking stick just sounds unimportant. For starters, is a "kylin" the same thing as a qilin? If so, then why is it spelled differently? Does the walking-stick have a profound, qilin-related impact on the plot? Does this "kylin-headed" walking stick have notability outside of the book? That, and "In Popular Culture" sections ↗ should not be a laundry list of every appearance the subject has made. If you think it's notable, '''then the onus is on you to explain and ''cite'' why it is notable'''.--Mr Fink (talk) 21:10, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

kmccook responds:
Yes, it is a variant spelling and as I noted when I reverted this it is mentioned multiple times in the book--The Last Dickens ↗ that uses the kylin throughout and in the final sequences, but if the onus is on me (bold letters, you sound very stern) I can't do much more to convince you. It is not worth an edit war. Kmccook (talk) 22:45, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Retiring and closing Kaffeeklatsch

I will be retiring from Wikipedia soon and wanted to let you know that I am closing down the Kaffeeklatsch. Thanks for expressing an interest in a place for women Wikipedia editors. Sorry I couldn't develop it. Lightbreather (talk) 19:27, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for July 6

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ruskin, Florida ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Uzita ↗. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. <small>Read the FAQ{{*}} Join us at the DPL WikiProject ↗.</small>

Projects on Talk:Elizabeth Gray Vining ↗

Hi Kmccook, I recently came across the above talkpage and was surprised to see that it had no wikiprojects but the following words:
:IP user 24.92.174.244 is adding unnecessary templates without sufficient explanation. This appears to be vandalism as IP User 24.92.174.244 is focusing on women librarians who are noted for social justice and labor activism.

:There is an unidentified IP user vandalizing librarian entries,

Looking at the page's history I see that you removed all of its projects and added the above words in April 2015. Sorry, but I don't understand what this means as the projects have been added by different editors and appear relevant to the article subject. I have reinstated the projects. {{Ivmbox|Hello, Kmccook. Voting in the '''2016 Arbitration Committee elections ↗''' is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

Adding categories

Hello. When you create a new category, it's really important that you categorise it to put it within the category hierarchy so that humans and maintenance bots can find it. Browsing the existing hierarchy or using WP:HOTCAT ↗ are both good ways to find suitable parent categories. In doing so you may find categories that duplicate the new one - for instance I'd suggest that {{cl|Authors' libraries}} is close enough to {{cl|Literary archives}} for separate categories to be WP:Overcategorization ↗. Cheers Le Deluge (talk) 18:54, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello & thank you, but these are their books, not their papers. I was looking at the Ransom Center collection and saw that they not only accept archives but also the books off shelves of authors. I can see why they merge in categories, tho. Thank you. Kmccook

Copyright problem on Horace Logan ↗

Material you included in the above article appears to have been copied from the copyright web page https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/flo79. Copying text directly from a source is a copyright violation ↗. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the content had to be removed and I paraphrased some. Please leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions or if you think I made a mistake. —
Diannaa&nbsp;<span style="color:red">🍁</span>&nbsp;(talk) 21:37, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
It was paraphrased and cited. but I'm glad the page has remained. Mr. Logan was impt. to rockabilliy legacies. Kmccook (talk) 12:43, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
:Your addition was flagged by a bot as a potential copyright violation and was assessed by myself. Your addition contained quite a bit of overlap with the source webpage, requiring copyvio clean-up. Please don't add copyright material to this wiki. — Diannaa&nbsp;<span style="color:red">🍁</span>&nbsp;(talk) 12:49, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
This was not looked at carefully. To me discourages participation. Perhaps the topic was not to your liking but this was dispiriting. Bots can be used one way or the other depending on bias and individual preference.

Edit summaries

Why do you keep putting the four tildes <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> in your Edit summaries ↗? It's not needed. <span style="color:green">'''Ten Pound Hammer'''</span> • (What did I screw up now?) 01:59, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
I thought that was how to show I did it. What did I screw up now? and how on earth did you see I was doing it? I think an admin told me to do it.

The kind of page you're looking at right now -- any page with "Talk" in it, like User talk:TenPoundHammer or Talk:Main Page ↗ -- ''that'' is where you use the tildes. Not in edit summaries (which is the really long skinny box saying "Edit summary" on ''any'' page). Like, right after the word "sentence" in this sentence. <span style="color:green">'''Ten Pound Hammer'''</span> • (What did I screw up now?) 03:07, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

Initially the Weinstein harassment posts were moved to their own page that was then slated for deletion and required a discussion to retain This certainly was not all male all editors, but the fact that the article had a deletion discussion startd with this statement: "Like everything else controversial in the news, this incident blew up overnight and will likely die down soon. If it continues garnering significant and important coverage beyond the original story, like California's or New York's statute of limitations for rape allows for charges against Weinstein, if there's a trial, an uncovered sex ring, crimes were committed, and so on, then I would say this article is appropriate. This story really has no impact right now other than Hollywood and politicians covering their behinds," was almost an instantaneous Wikipedia modeling of victim blaming. I know most editors have objectivity at heart. I believe Simply-the-Truth is a vandal. Thank you for your support. Kmccook (talk) 13:01, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
:::: Hi, hope you dont mind me commenting here again. I was never looking for an argument at any time. I truly was greatly offended by the wording of your remarks. The things that man has been accused off are terribile, so to be painted as the same by poor wording was not nice at all. I now accept that this was all that it was, slightly poor wording and my wrong take on what @Kmccok was saying. So no apology needed at all, and I apologise if I upset you as well, never my intention. Have a great rest of the week! Simply-the-truth (talk) 09:35, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Collins article

In a 2014 article Collins body-shamed Senator Barbara Mikulski for being petite in stature with the title, "Barbara Mikulski’s Hottest Moments " which appeared in the ''Daily Caller.'' This is a fact. I have explained at the dispute site that belittling people of petite stature is mean-spirited.

See here ↗. Thanks. PaulCHebert (talk) 17:59, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia Makes Me Weep

Wikipedia makes me weep.
I have found Wikipedia to be a very hostile place, sometimes.
Full of themselves editors delete because they can. They cite rules and regulations to cover their meanness. As do most tyrants.
I have tried to encourage young people to edit but a speedy deletion can crush their desire.
Once in a while an editor is kind and helps the new person but the more frequent response to a new person's efforts is "off with their head."
Wikipedia makes me weep.Kmccook (talk) 14:40, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Browns+slavery

Hi Kmccook,
I have reverted your edit about 'slave trading of Brown' on Brown uni page for now. I removed it for it would be better to build consensus on talk page for contentious additions. Still, I think it is a interesting and worthy topic to expand on. The ''Slavery and Justice report'' subsection under History tab on Brown uni page currently has expand section tag and can definitely use help. Let me know if I can assist. Thanks. <span style="color:#000E54">''GreaterPonce665''</span> ('''TALK''') 05:24, 18 July 2020 (UTC)

Organized labour project

Thank you for earlier joining the Organized Labour project. I've been a participant in the project since 2006 and am helping with a revival of it. As part this we are introducing a new membership system, which will help with communications among participants. This involves creating a membership file for each participant within your user space (you can see an example of my membership card here: User:Goldsztajn/WikiProjectCards/WikiProject Organized Labour). This system is already in operation within a number of wikiprojects (such as Women in Red ↗ and Medicine ↗). You will not have to do anything, myself or someone else from the project will create the relevant file within your userspace. However, I am conscious that it is not polite to change an editor's userspace without notice. If I don't hear from you in the negative, I will go ahead with making the change after the 18th of January. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Many thanks for supporting the project, in solidarity, --Goldsztajn (talk) 00:03, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

WSJ op-ed page

WSJ editorials are not reliable sources. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 17:19, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for trying to get the facts about the Florida coronavirus pandemic management on to this Wikipedia page

I am a 40 year public health professional in Gainesville with 20 years of experience in coronavirus management, starting with SARS in 2003, MERS in 2015, and now COVID-19. Among other credentials, I invented and brought through regulatory approval two coronavirus diagnostics, today used in developing countries as well as Europe and the US.

We are trying to ensure that Snooganssnoogans, Vizzinifezzikwomanchuck, and other individuals do not successfully transform Wikipedia from a reliable source of information into a partisan attack sheet. Unfortunately, I have a job, and have not yet learned the rules of managing people like Snooganssnoogans and Vizzinifezzikwomanchuck. WSJ "opinion" pieces are more reliable than Washington Post "news" pieces". And people die because of the misinformation that Snooganssnoogans and Vizzinifezzikwomanchuck post here. Accordingly, I have contacted Wikipedia directly about Snooganssnoogans amd Vizzinifezzikwomanchuck and, since I am a large donor to Wikipedia, I actually got a reply.

So that you know, here are the facts from the perspective of a public health professional, with references.

As the pandemic unfolded in 2020, public health scientists worldwide engaged in a discussion about the value of different public health measures to manage the pandemic.
In these properties, CoVID-19 differed dramatically from other coronaviruses, notable SARS 2003 and MERS.
This discussion included the effectiveness of lockdowns in improving public health outcomes. Several states, including California, Michigan, and New York, and many international jurisdictions, notably the United Kingdom, undertook large scale lockdowns.

Acting on that science, after a brief "stay at home order" in early spring, Governor DeSantis chose for Florida a pandemic response similar to that of Sweden. Elderly living facilities were protected, with DeSantis choosing to minimize lockdowns. As the pandemic progressed, DeSantis continued to adjust his policy as science and data showed that lockdowns created other problems in public health, including mental health.
Further, peer reviewed literature established that lockdowns had substantial economic cost.
A year into the pandemic, the Florida strategy had proven successful by many metrics, especially in comparison with states that chose severe lockdowns. Florida never became a "global epicenter of the coronavirus", as some had predicted. Instead, the total number of cases per 100,000 in Florida was 8734, compared to California (8805) and New York (8337).
The total number of deaths per 100,000 in Florida was 144, compared to California (132), New York (163), and the US as a whole (154). If the data are adjusted for population age, Florida's outcome is especially significant, as Florida ranks second in the US in its proportion of elderly.

These data informed public debate, not only for the COVID-19 pandemic but for future pandemics. In particular, they suggested that lockdowns did not have material impact on public health outcomes, while they created collateral medical and economic damage. Thus, by the end of the year, Florida has performed economically better than the lockdown jurisdictions by many metrics. For example, as of December 2020, Florida's unemployment rate was 6.1%, compared to the national 6.7% rate.

The pandemic was also unusual in the degree to which specific news outlets politicized public health decisions.
The Brookings Institute noted that "politics is wrecking America's pandemic response",
gaps" with Democrats generally favoring extreme lockdowns. Many of the politically motivated comments assumed that extreme lockdowns were the only "correct" response to the pandemic, with Brookings remarking "even though they reflected as unfortunate reactions based on distrust of the President, rather than proposals grounded in evidence". Brookings Institute noted that "[w]hatever the public health merits, we find that lockdown policies and business closures do real damage to the economy that goes beyond the actual effects predicted by infections or deaths at the county level." Brookings reported that as of September, unemployment in Republican states was 6.7%, while unemployment in Democrat states was 11.3%.

== Edit warring about inclusion of fact that Ian Fleming ↗ was founder of the journal, The Book Collector ↗, in Ian Fleming ↗ article

This wasn't really a war--it was my attempt to add a fact to the article on Ian Fleming ↗ that a more experienced editor didn't want there. I lost. The fact was that Ian Fleming founded a journal, The Book Collector ↗. This information is not wanted on that page. Maybe because it is "The Agent’s Secret"--the title of an article in the ''Times Literary Supplement.''

30px|left|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war ↗; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page ↗ to work toward making a version that represents consensus ↗ among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle ↗ for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard ↗ or seek dispute resolution ↗. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection ↗.

'''Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing ↗'''&mdash;especially if you violate the three-revert rule ↗, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts ↗ on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring&mdash;'''even if you do not violate the three-revert rule'''&mdash;should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.<!-- Template:uw-3rr --> ~ <span style="background:red; color:white; padding:2px; border:1px solid red;">'''HAL'''</span><span style="background:black; color:white; padding:2px; border:1px solid red;">'''333'''</span> 16:29, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

OK, I will not work any more to add the information that Ian Fleming was a founder of The Book Collector ↗, but I do have a citation <ref>J.C.“The Agent’s Secret. ↗” ''TLS''. Times Literary Supplement no. 5946 (2017): 36.</ref> and have now been alerted by this EDIT WAR message that I should not add to the article because..I do not know why except the Ian Fleming ↗ page at Wikipedia must be a man's world where women Wikipedia editors will be schooled. I wish Wikipedia would post an alert to women editors that some topics are off limits to wom"--as explen.Kmccook (talk) 16:59, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
I see the citation I added to the Ian Fleming ↗ page from the ''Times Literary Supplement'' no. 5946 (2017): 36<ref>J.C.“https://www.the-tls.co.uk/articles/the-agents-secret/d ↗” ''TLS''. Times Literary Supplement no. 5946 (2017): 36.</ref> has been deleted. The Ian Fleming ↗ page thus remains free of information that Fleming founded the The Book Collector ↗. I can't see why they want to hush this up, but there you go.Kmccook (talk) 20:39, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

thanks

have watched the editing on my wachlist of what I once owned - a full set whats more until the 2000's -

of the book collector. It's a sad reflection on everything that so few external refs are available on the publication - so thanks anyways - as far as I can tell from the oz copyright laws - the first two years covers would be now in public domain - in oz at least... my vagrant copies are deep in a system that I would not find in the short term - you probably deserve some sort of medal for survival of the zoo/circus, also, if no one has suggested - archiving talk pages can be a fruitful exercise, but then there is an element of reckless living inleaving it out there... JarrahTree 14:30, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Your substack

You are, of course, free to post things like: https://hxlibraries.substack.com/p/librarians-need-to-take-wikipedia on sites like substack.

But, it demonstrates your inability to understand the difference between a social media or newsletter site and an encyclopedia. Which is why you are having difficulties here. O3000, Ret. (talk) 01:09, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
:Not at all. Examining the history of a page and the edit summaries of the reverting editors provides context. It is fairly clear that women editors are monitored in ways that male editors are not. This is a major reason there are so few women editors. Tone is important. I know there is rigorous push back against attempts to demonstrate that rules aren't consistent, but they are not. If the "reliable sources" do not cover an issue it cannot be cited. In the case of the Twitter Files ↗ the "reliable sources" have decided that it is not an important story. And this is because they have missed a very big story. They should be ashamed. Kmccook (talk) 01:30, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
::Female editors are absolutely not treated in any way different than males. Some of the best admins are female, and no one needs to state their sex. Indeed, during most of WP history, gender was not known and you still don't have to reveal it. That's why gender neutral pronouns are so often used here. If you can find a single example of such, bring it up. As for the Twitter Files being an important story, that's your opinion and our opinions don't count. O3000, Ret. (talk) 01:44, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
:::Posting at my page to scold demonstrates otherwise. Kmccook (talk) 01:51, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
::::Wow, so you assume me explaining something to you has something to do with you being female and therefore I'm a sexist? You are not close. I think men are mostly a silly breed. But, I won't bother you again. O3000, Ret. (talk) 01:55, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
:::::Yes, I do think it was sort of a mansplaining action ("me explaining something to you.") The <nowiki>Twitter Files ↗</nowiki> is important because it deals with censorship by government. That's not my opinion. It is a fact. Also, "Heterodoxy in the Stacks" is not my Substack. That was a guest article by me. Kmccook (talk) 02:05, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
::::::You should realize that accusing me of mansplaining is sexist on your part. If you want to successfully edit an encyclopedia, you'll need to rid yourself of such prejudices. O3000, Ret. (talk) 02:11, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
:::::::This is why there are so few women editors--less than 10%. Can't you be a little more kind? Can't you help instead of criticizing? Lack of Women in Wikipedia (rit.edu) ↗ Kmccook (talk) 02:25, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Suggestions of sexism

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Please remember to assume good faith ↗ when dealing with other editors. Thank you.<!-- Template:uw-agf2 -->
This is a low level info. You have, by my count, falsely accused two editors a total of three times of making sexist comments to you. The last was to SPECIFICO, who is a female editor herself. This is not just a violation; it is pointless as it adds nothing to a discussion and will cause editors to ignore your arguments. O3000, Ret. (talk) 01:24, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

:You are saying if an editor does not agree with you, she will be tossed from the club of editors? This is the second time you have come to my talk page to explain to me how I am to act. Maybe you are not always right. You have often been unkind to people, sarcastic, and arch.
:Why is it important to you that I give up on issues of censorship?
:The Universal Code of Conduct revision is being voted on now.
:It states: 3.1 – Harassment-Harassment includes but is not limited to:
:Insults: This includes name calling, using slurs or stereotypes, and any attacks based on personal characteristics. Insults may refer to perceived characteristics like intelligence, appearance, ethnicity, race, religion (or lack thereof), culture, caste, sexual orientation, gender, sex, disability, age, nationality, political affiliation, or other characteristics. In some cases, repeated mockery, sarcasm, or aggression constitute insults collectively, even if individual statements would not. Sexual harassment: Sexual attention or advances of any kind towards others where the person knows or reasonably should know that the attention is unwelcome or in situations where consent cannot be communicated. Trolling: Deliberately disrupting conversations or posting in bad-faith to intentionally provoke. 3.2 – Abuse of power, privilege, or influence Abuse occurs when someone in a real or perceived position of power, privilege, or influence engages in disrespectful, cruel, and/or violent behaviour towards other people. In Wikimedia environments, it may take the form of verbal or psychological abuse and may overlap with harassment.
:The repeated arbitrary or unmotivated removal of any content without appropriate discussion or providing explanation Systematically manipulating content to favour specific interpretations of facts or points of view (also by means of unfaithful or deliberately false rendering of sources and altering the correct way of composing editorial content) Hate speech in any form, or discriminatory language aimed at vilifying, humiliating, inciting hatred against individuals or groups on the basis of who they are or their personal beliefs The use of symbols, images, categories, tags or other kinds of content that are intimidating or harmful to others outside of the context of encyclopedic, informational use. This includes imposing schemes on content intended to marginalize or ostracize.--Kathleen Kmccook (talk) 01:38, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
::"You are saying if an editor does not agree with you, she will be tossed from the club of editors?" You did it again. I never said anything even remotely like that. As for the UCC, I !voted for it and despise bigotry in all forms. Yet, you continue to make nasty assumptions because I disagree with your attempts to promote conspiracy theories based on poor sources. My mother had a degree in library science, worked in the Berkeley stacks, and had a genius IQ. Enough. Do not accuse another editor of being sexist. My polite advice has failed. O3000, Ret. (talk) 01:49, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
:::You’ve made your point. Obviously Kmccook didn’t appreciate the cooking analogy, which seemed a bit odd and off topic. Naturally a technology columnist may have an interest in the Twitter Files. There is no need to continue here. Mr Ernie (talk) 01:58, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
::::O, thank you. Mr Ernie Yes the cooking and shopping wisecrack made me feel very diminished. --Kathleen Kmccook (talk) 02:00, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

:::Above you wrote this " will cause editors to ignore your arguments." This reads like you very much made a suggestion of banishment. You have not been polite you have been condescending. You determine a person is a "conspiracy theorist" because you know that that kind of assertion dismisses and erases the person you castigate. I see the Twitter Files ↗ page as very much about censorship, not a conspiracy.

Help with sandbox

{{Help me-helped}}

My sandbox is no longer in showing all the subheadings and a block of text that was in another location in the sandbox appears below the subheading "Catholic Library Association that I can't seem to delete.
I thought maybe I had too much in the sandbox so cleared out a lot of old projects but that did not fix the problem. appreciate help.Kmccook (talk) 22:54, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Kmccook (talk) 22:54, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
: I think you're aware of the fact that you can have any number of additional files in your userspace. I recommend that you use this capability to split out the pieces of projects that you have currently crammed together in the one file named 'Sandbox'. Each file can be given a suitable name, to help keep track of what's where.
: While it is possible to reach software limits in terms of a maximum number of transclusions, among other things, I don't think your sandbox is there currently, but I see that it was considerably larger earlier. Somewhere there is a recommendation to keep file sizes under 200kb.
: But I don't have any explanation for why you are seeing misplaced text or uneditable text - I don't see these things when I look at the sandbox. My only suggestion is to try to switch from source editor to visual editor or vice versa to see if they give a different view - it's rare, but not all that unusual for them to render the page differently. ::You got it. I messed around and it worked under source but I didn't know that. Appreciate the note on size and files. Yes, I did get rid of things like articles that had been accepted. I have learned from this. Thank you so much.Kmccook (talk) 00:39, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Edit warring at Matt Taibbi

30px|left|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history at :Matt Taibbi ↗ shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war ↗; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page ↗ to work toward making a version that represents consensus ↗ among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done ↗.

Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring&mdash;'''even if you do not violate the three-revert rule'''&mdash;should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.<!-- Template:uw-3rr -->

'''Now follow BRD ↗''' and use the talk page to DISCUSS this matter, as your restoration of my DELETION of your BOLD addition is classic edit warring. Seriously. -- Valjean (talk) ('''''<span style="color:#0bf">PING me</span> ↗''''') 01:10, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

:Of course, this ends my contribution to this topic. Kmccook (talk) 01:18, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
:: No, it doesn't have to mean that. This just means staying on topic, and the topic there is Taibbi, even in the context of the Twitter files. Note that every entry in that section is about him, and only when it's also about the Twitter files. -- Valjean (talk) ('''''<span style="color:#0bf">PING me</span> ↗''''') 01:23, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed that you created a stub at this title from a translation from Spanish Wikipedia. However, the English Wikipedia doesn't allow any biographies of living persons that have no references to remain in mainspace, regardless of whether they were created from translation or not. :I was too slow to add the obituary notice. I've added all I have now. Would you please look at this again? Of all "Award of Merit Winners" since 1966 Dr. Cuadra was the only Latino. I think he deserves a page for his achievements. Thank you.Kmccook (talk) 00:40, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
::Looks good to me, I just re-published it. Just remember for the future that '''all''' articles relating to living or recently deceased people must have at least one source immediately upon creation if they are to remain in article space. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 02:31, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
:::Good reminder. I should have included his obituary right off.Kmccook (talk) 02:33, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this '''anonymous survey ↗'''.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page ↗ and view its privacy statement ↗ .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team ↗

Article in a mess

i hope you don't mind my choosing you at random from previous constructive editors of the article Printing ↗? Somehow it has gotten into a mess of duplicates paragraphs (including their thumbnail illustrations!). I'd do myself except it really needs desktop view to see exactly what is going on and I will be away from my desk for a couple of days. It is not practical to do it on mobile.

Not a problem if you don't have time or inclination, it can wait. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 15:20, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

:I will try to look at it. I do have desktop. Glad to help if I can.Kmccook (talk) 15:57, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
:Can you point me to the worst offenders--it's a big page and I don't want to move the wrong parts.Kmccook (talk) 15:59, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
::Tyvm, appreciated.
::In Printing#History ↗, afaics the material on woodblock printing is all there twice. I'v just spotted a second instance of a line reading {{code|1= == History ==}} sitting there doing nothing. Maybe everything from there down can be deleted? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 17:29, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
:::I think I got it. Take a look.Kmccook (talk) 22:33, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

November Unref articles drive

Just wanted to reach out and let you know that at least three of your claims for the drive had references before November 2025, specifically Graham Greene ↗, Hank Penny ↗ and Sentimental poetry ↗. You are aware that entries need to be completely devoid of references and you are inputting the first ref into the article? Unfortunately these three do not qualify and I will have to reject them, sorry. Happy to discuss if needed. Thanks. The joy of all things (talk) 13:03, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

:No! I didn't realize they had to be devoid of all references...I thought if I ran across a citation that needed notation that was sufficient for the drive. Truthfully I tried and tried to use the suggestions but so many were sports or anime (the literature ones are not literature at all) that I felt there was little I could do to assist. Thanks for all the work on the drive and thanks for taking the time to let me know I had misunderstood the instructions. Kmccook (talk) 13:12, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
::Alas, no; they need to have either this tag on the article {{tlx|unreferenced}} or be an article like this Sharpe's Mission ↗ which does not have a tag but clearly has no citations whatsoever. Sorry, but keep plugging away! If you do need more specific guidance please let me know. Regards. The joy of all things (talk) 13:19, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
:::Got it! Thanks for your patience and care to let me know. Kmccook (talk) 13:22, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Ways to improve Richard and Mary Rouse History of the Book Lectures

Hello, Kmccook,

Thank you for creating Richard and Mary Rouse History of the Book Lectures ↗.

I have tagged the page ↗ as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process ↗ and note that:

{{Quote|1=Hi, it needs one reference per row.}}

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with <code><nowiki>{{Re|</nowiki>Scope creep<nowiki>}}</nowiki></code>. Remember to sign your reply with <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code>. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse ↗.

:I looked for an article, book or announcement for every lecturer. Some were only advertised on the website then that was gone when the website updated, I guess. (although the list of lecturers was there). I provided a citation for every one I could find. I don't think I can find any more. I did try for every one. Thanks for reviewing.Kmccook (talk) 17:03, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :Donald G. Davis, Jr. ↗

A tag has been placed on :Donald G. Davis, Jr. ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement ↗. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of ''information'', but not as a source of ''sentences''. This part is crucial: ''say it in your own words''. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators '''will be blocked from editing ↗'''.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you ''must'' verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials ↗. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission ↗ for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy ↗ for more details, or ask a question here ↗.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-copyvio-notice --><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <span style="border-radius:3em;padding:5px;background:#483D8B;">‍'''<span style="color:white">Rela</span>'''<span style="color:white">tivity ⚡️</span></span> 03:06, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
:So, you've contested the deletion of this page seven times at Talk:Donald G. Davis, Jr. ↗, but as far as I can see have not addressed or even recognised the fundamental problem – that you appear to have copied non-free (''i.e.'', copyright) content from an external source into Wikipedia. Or do you have some reason to believe that content here ↗, here ↗ and at "Austin American-Statesman from Dec. 30, 2024 to Jan. 3, 2025" is released under a licence that allows anyone, anywhere, to use it in any way they wish, including commercial use? I must admit that I find it worrying that an editor with almost 16000 edits should appear to have so poor an understanding of copyright in general and of our copyright policy ↗ in particular. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:52, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
::I thought citing an obituary and quoting from an obituary is ok. My edit count is so far below your over 100K--I am sorry. I often make mistakes. I deserve being called out. I apologize to you. I should have only cited Dr. Davis' festschrift but I wanted to vary the sources.
::I've sent you an e-mail. Would you just delete the page and I will start over? Thank you. (I am so embarrassed).Kmccook (talk) 17:00, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
::Please delete the Davis page entirely, I don't want anyone wasting time on this.Kmccook (talk) 18:22, 10 January 2026 (UTC)

::::Thank you.Kmccook (talk) 18:54, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
:::::Kmccook, I have two emails from you, but there's nothing in them that you couldn't have written here, so I'm replying here. I'm sorry to hear that you're upset, but (almost) nothing is ever actually deleted from Wikipedia – content of 'deleted' pages can be recovered if there's a good reason to do so. I was called away soon after I started looking at your sandbox, which contained a number of serious copyright violations; I'm relieved to see that it is now gone from general view. Please confirm, here on this page, that you do fully understand that you may not copy non-free material from external sources (and, with rare exceptions, almost ''all'' material is non-free) into any Wikipedia page (including pages in your personal user space). You can make use of the information and ideas in an external page, but the words used to describe them must be entirely your own. If you don't understand that, please say so here, and I or someone else will try to explain our policy on this.
:::::That leaves the question of your contributions to articles, and whether some of those may also contain copyright violations. I can't spend more time on this at the moment (my day is over) but note that there are problems at :Maria McCauley ↗ at the very least (see this useful tool ↗). Sorry about all this, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:22, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
