25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hi Lynngol! I noticed that you recently made an edit&#32;at :Bella Abzug ↗ and marked it as "minor", but it may not have been. "Minor edit ↗" has a specific definition on Wikipedia: it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections ↗ or reverting obvious vandalism ↗. Any edit that changes the <em>meaning</em> of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-minor --> – notwally (talk) 20:56, 19 January 2025 (UTC)

Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :Shalom Spiegel ↗

{{Quote box|quote=<p>If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article ↗.</p><p>You may want to consider using the Article Wizard ↗ to help you create articles.</p>|width=20%|align=right}}
A tag has been placed on :Shalom Spiegel ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement ↗. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://archives.jtsa.edu/repositories/2/resources/119#. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of ''information'', but not as a source of ''sentences''. This part is crucial: ''say it in your own words''. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators '''will be blocked from editing ↗'''.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you ''must'' verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials ↗. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission ↗ for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy ↗ for more details, or ask a question here ↗.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-copyvio-notice --><!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <small><b style="color:blue; text-shadow:cyan 0.0em 0.0em 0.1em;">CycloneYoris</b></small> <b style="color:purple">''talk!''</b> 08:12, 9 February 2025 (UTC)

Shirley Chisholm

Hi, Lynngol. You guys missed a pop culture fact regarding Shirley Chisholm. She is mentioned by name by a former rapper named Biz Markie. His song Nobody Beats the Biz -1988. The lyric is ''Reagan is the Pres, but I voted for Shirley Chisholm' · So respect the architect as I begin to build · Like Carl Lewis I get to it, so let's go the lap". Many young people learned about her because this song was so popular in the 80s. 2603:6010:E200:2064:3804:BB36:D597:51E5 ↗ (talk) 04:34, 27 May 2025 (UTC)

Non-attributed translations

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from :he:שלום שפיגל ↗ to :Shalom Spiegel ↗. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing ↗ '''requires that you provide attribution''' to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an '''edit summary ↗''' on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking ↗ it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here ↗. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution '''must be given retroactively ↗''', for example:
: <code><nowiki>NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at :fr:Exact name of French article ↗; see its history for attribution.</nowiki></code>
Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit ↗; see Repairing insufficient attribution ↗.
It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{tl|translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively ↗, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-translation --> Dionysodorus (talk) 21:47, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

:Thank you for your thoughts about the Shalom Spiegel page. However, this page was not translated from the Hebrew. It has significantly more content than the Hebrew page and many more references. If anything the Hebrew page should be adjusted with content from the English page. When I do translate from a different language I put a note in the talk page (examples: Talk:The Israel Coalition for Trauma, Draft talk:Murder of Youths in Ra'anana by British Soldiers) Lynngol (talk) 10:45, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

Some tips on editing

Welcome to Wikipedia! Always good to see new editors. FYI: you made a change to W. E. B. Du Bois ↗ that was not ideal, so I undid it. I thought you might want to know why ... if you already know about these tips, feel free to ignore them:
# Lead sections (the top of the article) are reserved for major facts about the article's topic, not minor facts.
# Every fact in the Lead must be repeated below (in the "body text") somewhere. That is because Lead is defined as (and limited to) a summary of the body text.
# Lead sections rarely have footnotes with superscripts like [2] or [3]. Footnotes are not prohibited in the Lead section, but they are sort of discouraged. See MOS:LEADCITE ↗. Esp if the Lead has zero footnotes, you shouldn't add any to the Lead
# The WEB article is already oversized per WP:SIZERULE ↗. WEB is 12,000+ prose words, where the ideal max is about 9,000 words. So, any new material added to the article must be super important.
# To add new material to an oversized article, one should split the article into two, per WP:SUMMARY STYLE ↗. Typically, this involves splitting off large section and creating a new sub-article. In fact, that should happen to the WEB article now, if anyone has time & inclination.
# The source you used is a NY Times opinion piece. That is not acceptable for the WEB article because there are many, many solid, academic sources on him, and therefore those should be used first. See WP:Reliable Sources ↗. Non-academic sources are only used in articles with tons of academic sources in rare cases (for minor/obscure facts that academic sources do not mention). To add material about charitable grants, you'd need to search thru biographies or journal articles about WEB and use those as sources. (''The preceding applies only to the WEB article; the NY Times opinion piece might be an okay source for other articles where it is solidly on-point and no academic sources exist)''.

Apologies if this sounds brusque, I'm simply trying to help you come up to speed. God knows I made hundreds of mistakes when I was starting off. If you have any questions about the above tips, let me know. Noleander (talk) 16:22, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

:Many thanks for making the effort to send me this. It is very useful.
:In this particular instance it is important to add the fact that he received this fellowship as close to 1000 African Americans who received them became or were already leaders in their fields. He is mentioned in the article on the Rosenwald Fund. Also the author of the NYT article also wrote a book on this subject so i can quote that. I will add a short sentence in the text as well.
:If you don't agree please let me know before I edit the article. Lynngol (talk) 18:11, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
::Go ahead and add a single sentence into the body text, but not the lead. The citation (footnote) should use the book, not a NY Times opinion piece. The citation should use the template Template:Cite book ↗ and mimic the other citations that use the template in the article. After you add the sentence I can look at it and clean it up.
::The important point is not the formatting, it is this: It is very easy to add material into articles; what is hard is making the articles bite-sized for modern readers that have a 30 second attention span. If 200 editors each add a sentence into WEB article, it becomes bloated (and in fact already is). Who is going to pause and take the time to apply WP:SUMMARY STYLE ↗ principles? Are you going to? Am I? I'm too busy with other things, and I already re-organized this article twice.
::Note that the article has the Featured Article ↗ gold star in the upper right corner: that means extra care must be taken to preserve the FA quality (see WP:FACR ↗). Noleander (talk) 18:22, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
::@Lynngol - Thanks for making an update that was more consistent with WP policies and guidelines. Regarding the source you used:
:::The Rosenwald Fund ↗ provided him with a fellowship to enable him to research this book.<ref>{{Cite web |title=1931 Recipient of Rosenwald Fund |url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosenwald_Fund}}</ref>
::{{reflist}}
::Unfortunately, Wikipedia cannot be used as a source. A list of (some) prohibited sources is at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources ↗, within that list Wikipedia is named specifically (at WP:RSPWP ↗). In an article like W. E. B. Du Bois ↗, which is heavily documented by scholars, the source ''must'' be a book or journal article by an academic, except in exceptional circumstances. Exceptions can be made for recent events, for example, the article includes this newspaper as a valid source for an event in recent years:
::: {{cite newspaper |last=Sama |first=Dominic |url=https://www.chicagotribune.com/1992/02/02/new-us-issue-honors-web-du-bois |title=New U.S. Issue Honors W. E. B. Du Bois" | newspaper=Chicago Tribune |date=February 2, 1992 |access-date= November 20, 2011 }}
::The following is a newspaper source in the article that is marginally appropriate, but I have not yet got around to remedying (by finding a scholarly source that is consistent with WP:RS ↗):
:::{{cite web |last1=Jonhston |first1=Richard J. H. |title=Progressive Party Gathers in Chicago |url=https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1952/07/05/92668181.html |website=The New York Times |access-date=4 November 2024 |url-access=subscription |language=en |date=July 5, 1952}}
::To find a valid source, you can try the biography by David Levering Lewis, or look in WP:TWL ↗, etc. Noleander (talk) 14:04, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
:::{{yo|Lynngol}} Thanks for updating the source to:
::::{{xt|Brighouse, David (1998). In Battle for Scholarship: W.E.B. Dubois and the Return to Atlantic University, 1934-1944. Rutgers College. p. 36.}}
:::Can you also insert an ISBN number into that citation? The ISBN number is basically a requirement for book sources in WP:FA ↗ articles. You can find examples of how to provide ISBN in other book sources within the article. Also: can you post here (in this Talk page) a brief passage from p. 36 of that book that describes the funding, I'm curious to know what sort of details the author provides. Thanks! Noleander (talk) 14:34, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
::::This is the paragraph in which it describes that Embree, the head of the Rosenwald Fund, corresponded with Dubois and decided to fund his work. The original information ( #58 and #59) comes from :Du Bois to Embree, 19 December 1930, Du Bois Papers. and Embree to Du Bois, 16 February 1931, Du Bois Papers at Amherst: http://findingaids.library.umass.edu/ead/mums312
::::From the thesis:
::::"The process by which Du Bois wrote, revised, and secured funds for Black
::::Reconstruction is a model of hard work, persistence, and commitment to scholarship. In
::::December 1930, Du Bois finally decided that the time had come to write the book he had
::::envisioned for so many years. Writing to Edwin Embree of the Julius Rosenwald Fund,
::::Du Bois made an informal request for financial support for his project. Touching upon
::::the main reasons that such a project was meritorious, Du Bois noted that "the story of
::::Reconstruction after the Civil War has been written ...from the point of view of the
::::Southern white man and the Northern white man, but not from the point of view of the
::::Negro, ...This story ought to be told."58 By February 1931, Embree had thought the
::::proposal over, had presented the matter formally to the Trustees of the Julius Rosenwald
::::Fund, and had secured a fellowship for Du Bois's writing. The appropriation was
::::substantial, giving Du Bois $3,600 from July 1, 1931 to June 30, 1932 and promising him
::::an additional $2,400, if needed, from July 1, 1932 to June 30, 1933.59 Thus, with a six
::::thousand-dollar fellowship from the Rosenwald Fund in hand, Du Bois and Black
::::Reconstruction (then tentatively titled "The Black Man in the Reconstruction of Freedom
::::in America") were on their way."
::::This is from a thesis written at Rutgers in 1998 and can be found online in the history department there. It doesn't seem to have been published in a book. Lynngol (talk) 14:55, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
:::::Okay, thanks for providing that detail. I won't press the issue any further, but that source is still far from ideal, especially for a WP:Featured Article ↗. Check out these guidelines:
::::::WP:Reliable Sources ↗ - Decscribes what sources are acceptable
::::::WP:SCHOLARSHIP ↗ - Compares various types of academic sources
::::::WP:THESIS ↗ - Discourages theses, especially if not peer-reviewed; or not for PhD; or when better sources (books or peer-reviewed journals) are available.
:::::Good luck with your future editing! Noleander (talk) 15:14, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, ''':Silenced No More: Report (Sexual Atrocities on October 7) ↗'''. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – ''':Silenced No More report ↗'''. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion ↗. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at :Silenced No More report ↗. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page ↗.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the {{Querylink|Special:Log|qs=type=delete&page=Silenced+No+More%3A+Report+%28Sexual+Atrocities+on+October+7%29|deleting administrator}}, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here ↗. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process ↗ and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. :You didn't give me a chance to reply before deleting this. I would appreciate your putting it back and then we can have a discussion on whether or not it deserves its own page or should be incorporated into another one. thank you. Lynngol (talk) 15:41, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

::A Wikipedia article about the exact same report had already been created by @Kaspar-trout. There cannot be duplicate articles about the exact same topic on Wikipedia, so since yours the more recent creation, I nominated yours for deletion. I do strongly encourage you to edit the Silenced No More report ↗ article. EaglesFan37 (talk) 15:47, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

::::The best thing to do is contribute to the existing article. If you wish, I can restore the article you wrote as a subpage in your User space if there is anything you may want to recover from there. -- Whpq (talk) 16:32, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::Thank you I would appreciate it. Lynngol (talk) 16:41, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::I have restored it to User:Lynngol/Silenced No More: Report (Sexual Atrocities on October 7). When you are done with it, you can tag it with {{tl|db-U1}} to have it deleted. Cheers. -- Whpq (talk) 18:04, 14 May 2026 (UTC)

::::::::'''Note:''' - I restored the material to your user subpage so you could use it assist you in editing the existing article, :Silenced No More report ↗. It was not so that you could try to submit it as a separate article. Please do not submit your draft to AFC, or attempt to move it into article space. -- Whpq (talk) 20:53, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Understood. Thank you for restoring it. I have tagged it so it can be deleted Lynngol (talk) 04:54, 15 May 2026 (UTC)

left|25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello Lynngol. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements ↗. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest ↗ (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. '''Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia.''' Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view ↗ and what Wikipedia is not ↗ and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation ↗ regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization ↗.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing and should instead propose changes on the talk page ↗ of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation ↗ process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are '''<u>required</u> by the Wikimedia Terms of Use ↗ to disclose your employer, client and affiliation.''' You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Lynngol. The template {{tl|Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{tlc|paid|2=user=Lynngol|3=employer=<var>InsertName</var>|4=client=<var>InsertName</var>}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, '''do not edit further''' until you answer this message. ''Hello, the formatting and pattern in multiple biography articles you've written about and the multiple copyright related warnings suggests potential public relations editing. Please clarify''<!-- Template:Uw-paid1 --> Graywalls (talk) 17:17, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

:I am very surprised at this comment and what lead you to this conclusion. I have no financial interest at all - I have never received payment nor am I interested in receiving payment for the work I do on Wikipedia. I choose topics to edit/write or comment on based solely my own interests. Please remove this block. Lynngol (talk) 05:25, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
