Mark Milano page decline

MSK,

Sorry, I began editing, and first section gave me a Publish button after I was done editing that section. I could not find another button to save changes, and I apparently resubmitted. Please decline and send it back to me. I'll figure out how to make and save changes for each section. MedillMSJ (talk) 19:08, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

:I think I figured it out. Please give me specific examples of bias you see in the article. I eliminated a number of adjectives, but everything else is supported with citations. Thanks. MedillMSJ (talk) 19:16, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
::Did you use AI to help you write that draft? Using AI to write new articles is prohibited ↗. <span style="color:#ff00ff">m</span><span style="color:#aa22aa">s</span> ↗<span style="color:#aa66aa">k</span> 19:21, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
:::No, I'm a professional journalist (two degrees, 40+ years experience), conducted the research, found the citations and wrote this original article. I recently attended Milano's memorial service and was inspired to create this page. MedillMSJ (talk) 19:26, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
::::Thanks for the quick answer. I'm going to be busy for the next hour or so, but after that, I'll try to provide some examples of bias in the article. While you wait, I recommend reading the policies on NPOV ↗ and NOTABILITY ↗. <span style="color:#ff00ff">m</span><span style="color:#aa22aa">s</span> ↗<span style="color:#aa66aa">k</span> 19:32, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
:::Checking back in... MedillMSJ (talk) 21:46, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Sorry about the delay, I forgot about this. Some examples:
::::* {{tq|helping save millions of lives}} this is probably subjective, and shouldn't be presented as fact
::::* {{tq|landmark HIV-discrimination lawsuit}} landmark is also a subjective descriptor.
::::The draft presents a lot of subjective opinions/descriptors as fact, which shouldn't be done with WikiVoice. <span style="color:#ff00ff">m</span><span style="color:#aa22aa">s</span> ↗<span style="color:#aa66aa">k</span> 16:00, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::I do not see "a lot of" subjective opinions/descriptors in the article.
:::::I deleted "landmark," although, in terms of law, this suit WAS a landmark, meaning it set new precedent in ADA law that will allow other plaintiff's to sue and win under the same points of law.
:::::He also DID help save millions of lives, as my citation pointed out. The Gore protest and subsequent change of the Clinton/U.S. policy towards generic AIDS drugs in Africa has saved an estimated 26 million lives to date. His work in AIDS education also has helped save countless lives - but I still deleted that.
:::::If what is holding up this page is simply a list of adjectives that could easily be deleted, can you delete them, or at least ask me for the sources?
:::::Thanks. MedillMSJ (talk) 16:38, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Checking back in... MedillMSJ (talk) 22:36, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::I think I've put my finger on why the draft reads so promotional.
::::::* the draft introduces Mark as {{tq|one of the world’s longest-surviving HIV patients}}, instead of going over what they did (e.g. see George Washington ↗, {{tq|George Washington was a Founding Father and the first president of the United States, serving from 1789 to 1797.}}) Opening with his work as an AIDS activist.
::::::* The lead ↗ section should summarize the entire article, not just greatest accomplishments.
::::::* Almost no information on early life (where/when he was born, education, occupation), this would be a good addition so that the entire article isn't just about him and HIV.
::::::* Right now the article is very borderline WP:NBIO ↗ and more notability-establishing sources would be helpful.
::::::* Most of the article goes into unnecessary detail on his work, e.g. the "Other activities included" paragraph in the Grass Roots Activism section could probably be cut
::::::* {{tq|Asare, who earned his medical degree from a school in Ukraine, is now selling a “miracle superfruit,” according to his LinkedIn page.}} While incredibly funny, probably not relevant.
::::::* A lot of the article is still unsourced, or the sourcing is unclear.
::::::Sorry for the late reply. <span style="color:#ff00ff">m</span><span style="color:#aa22aa">s</span> ↗<span style="color:#aa66aa">k</span> 00:30, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Thanks for your comments.
:::::::Noting that someone survived a deadly disease (that typically claimed lives in a matter of months in its early years) for 45 years is not “promotional”
:::::::Establishing early on that Milano was one of the world’s longest-surviving HIV patients is almost enough to justify his inclusion in Wikipedia.
:::::::This will not only pique people’s interest about him, but it also explains his credibility as an activist and it makes him a unique figure in this area. By some accounts, Milano was the second-longest surviving HIV patient in human history.
:::::::If he had done nothing other than survive HIV for 45 years, that alone might qualify him for inclusion in Wikipedia.
:::::::However, I moved this FACT down, because it is an incredibly rare occurrence for someone to survive HIV for 45 years.
:::::::“Right now the article is very borderline WP:NBIO “
:::::::I think we are safe here. No one can possibly believe that Mark Milano is not a notable feature, based on his world fame in HIV and AIDS activism and what he accomplished. There are countless porn stars, one-hit-wonder musicians, novelty songs, one-term politicians and non-Hall of fame athletes who have Wikipedia pages.
:::::::If you have not, please read the sources I’ve included.
:::::::Please also do a Google search of Mark Milano and read what you find.
:::::::“Other activities included paragraph in the Grass Roots Activism section could probably be cut.”
:::::::You ask that I add information about his notability, then suggest I cut out that he disrupted a President George Bush fundraiser, disrupted White House Chief of Staff Andy Card during THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION and other items that give context to his decades-long activism against the discrimination of the LBGTQ community.
:::::::Interrupting a sitting U.S. president during his speech is about as high-level as activism gets.
:::::::As far as sourcing, let’s discuss further work on this once you have made your determination as to whether or not Mark Milano is notable.
:::::::If so, please note what you need cited. MedillMSJ (talk) 01:16, 19 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::::*I never said that you ''shouldn't'' note {{tq|that someone survived a deadly disease}}, just that, as is standard for all Wikipedia articles, it should {{tq|introduce the topic, and tell the nonspecialist reader what or who the subject is, and often when or where.}} (quote MOS:FIRST ↗)
::::::::*Notability is not based on accomplishments, it is based on media coverage. a look at the sources right now:

::::::::* The call to cut the {{tq|Other activities included}} paragraph also comes from the lack of sources to support the (extraordinary) claims presented. If {{tq|interrupting a sitting U.S. president during his speech is about as high-level as activism gets}}, then there should be at least some sources on it, right?

Dear MSK,

Thank you for reviewing the draft article I submitted earlier this year regarding my employer, RAJA, a reseller of packaging and office supplies. I understand that the draft did not comply with Wikipedia guidelines. I have been transparent about my connection to RAJA, and I hope to be able to improve the original submission. I recognise that the draft was too long and included details that were not relevant.

The reason I am seeking to publish an article on Wikipedia is that RAJA employs close to 600 people in the country. The RAJA Group has been operating in the UK since 1999.

Today, it operates in the United Kingdom through three companies — RAJAPACK UK, Viking Direct and Morplan — employing around 600 people.

Established in 1999, RAJAPACK UK is a distributor of packaging materials and equipment for businesses. The company employs approximately 200 people and operates a distribution centre and office facility near Bedford.

Viking Direct, a reseller of office supplies, stationery and furniture for businesses, was acquired by the RAJA Group in 2021, having previously been part of Office Depot. The business employs around 200 people across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Morplan is a reseller of equipment and supplies for retail and fashion businesses in the UK. Founded in 1846, the company employs around 90 people. It is headquartered in Harlow, Essex, and operates additional stores in London, Bristol, Glasgow and Birmingham.

I would appreciate the opportunity to resubmit a shorter article, focusing on factual and verifiable information about these three companies. Would this be possible, please?

Best regards,

WikiCup 2026 July newsletter

The third round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 June at 23:59 (UTC). As a reminder, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, while peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 3 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; eight scored over 500; and thirteen scored over 300. The top three contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 7 featured-topic articles, 117 good articles, 74 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 13 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted nearly 180 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Gunther Fehlinger-Jahn

Hello. I was thinking about making an article on this person, and I saw that there was already a draft. This draft was submitted to become an article, but was then rejected because the sources provided were not good enough to establish notability, they were either written by Fehlinger himself or were just about his radical statements.

However, I found some sources that I think are better which were not brought up in the draft:

Investment Management Exhibition: https://ime-europe.eu/speakers/gunther-fehlinger-2023/

Visegrad Insight: https://visegradinsight.eu/author/g-fehlinger/

Writerblog: https://writerblog.co.uk/gunther-fehlinger/

I think that, with these sources, among others I could find with more time, the subject is notable enough for an article. However, since there was an AFD on it, and since this is my first time making an article, I went to the helpdesk to ask if this can be made into an article, and they told me to go talk to the person who rejected it, which was you. So, I wanted to know, with these sources, would Fehlinger be notable enough to have an article about him? If not, please let me know why. Thanks. Map Enjoyer (talk) 23:19, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

:IME isn't independent, as is Visegrad, and Writerblog seems like AI slop, and is almost certainly unreliable. Unless Fehlinger outdoes himself once again in his ''antics'', I don't forsee him becoming notable in the near future. <span style="color:#ff00ff">m</span><span style="color:#aa22aa">s</span> ↗<span style="color:#aa66aa">k</span> 04:19, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

The 2026 Core Contest Winners!

The winners of the 2026 Core Contest ↗ are announced 🎉. A ''huge'' turnout that resulted in one of our trickiest deliberation sessions. The judges ({{noping|Aza24}}, {{noping|Femke}} and {{noping|Casliber}}) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners!
