National varieties of English

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello. In a recent edit, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English ↗ in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English ↗. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English ↗. For something related to another English-speaking country ↗, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the ''original'' author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style ↗. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:uw-lang --> Qzd (talk) 17:35, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

:Thank you sir.
:Unfortunately I was unaware of these variations since English is not my first language. Throughout my life I was only exposed to American English. From now on, I will try searching for misspelled word first to see if it's a variation, even though I confess it is rather difficult to assess whether it is variety or genuine error. Your submission at Articles for creation ↗: Peng Shepherd ↗ has been accepted

<div style="border:solid 1px #57DB1E; background:#E6FFE6; padding:1em; padding-top:0.5em; padding-bottom:0.5em; width:20em; color:black; margin-bottom: 1.5em; width: 90%;">50px|left ↗ '''Peng Shepherd ↗, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.'''<br />

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions. <br />

The article has been assessed as '''Start-Class''', which is recorded on its talk page ↗. Most new articles start out as Stub-Class or Start-Class and then attain higher grades as they develop ↗ over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme ↗ to see how you can improve the article.

<div class="autoconfirmed-show">Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself ↗ without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation ↗ if you prefer.</div>

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the '''<span class="plainlinks">[//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Help_desk&action=edit&section=new&nosummary=1&preload=Template:AfC_talk/HD_preload&preloadparams%5B%5D=Peng_Shepherd help desk]</span>'''.<span class="unconfirmed-show"> Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself ↗ without posting a request to Articles for creation ↗.</span>

FYI – SPI

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MrEksh ↗

Regarding the recent Moushe Reuven AFD, I asked for a CU over at SPI, and it came back as unrelated. It is just a new editor keen to contribute :)

left|25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Hello Silvymaro. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements ↗. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest ↗ (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. '''Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia.''' Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view ↗ and what Wikipedia is not ↗ and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation ↗ regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization ↗.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing and should instead propose changes on the talk page ↗ of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation ↗ process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are '''<u>required</u> by the Wikimedia Terms of Use ↗ to disclose your employer, client and affiliation.''' You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Silvymaro. The template {{tl|Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{tlc|paid|2=user=Silvymaro|3=employer=<var>InsertName</var>|4=client=<var>InsertName</var>}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, '''do not edit further''' until you answer this message. <!-- Template:Uw-paid1 --> <span style="color:#008080;font-size:11px">COOLIDICAE🕶</span> 20:01, 22 September 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Praxidicae! Your message is well read. No, I am not being directly or indirectly compensated for edits. However, with regards to Paula Schneider ↗ page, my former colleague from Leidos ↗ (who now works for Susan G. Komen ↗) once asked me if I could add a photo to an article. I knew how and I did; this wasn't for compensation. Do you want me to place a tag on my talk page about it? Silvymaro (talk) 16:48, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
::Thank you for answering honestly! I am mobile so can't walk you through the COI disclosure but I would recommend not editing about people you know generally. Is the photo one you took yourself? <span style="color:#FF5F1F;font-size:11px">SPOOKYDICAE👻</span> 17:54, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
:::No, it was neither the case. I used the photo available on Flickr ↗ under a public license. In any case, your point is taken; I will refrain from editing in connection with anybody I know. The page in question is gone (to clarify, I wasn't contributing to that page content ''besides'' the photo) and I have no personal interest in what happened to it. We can consider this incident exhausted. Silvymaro (talk) 17:52, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
