Election results
Please stop reverting without proper explanation. How are the results that you removed and I restored wrong? They aren't. Display name 99 (talk) 17:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
:{{ping|Display_name_99}} In those states voters didn't vote for a candidate for president, they voted for presidential electors individually, so not all presidential electors got the same amount of votes. Nixon and McGovern weren't candidates, the presidential electors were. Yilku1 (talk) 17:55, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
::The intent of the people voting for the electors was to vote for certain candidates for president. From your version, it is almost impossible to tell how much success a presidential candidate had a given contest, and that is what readers will most want to see. If you want to add information about the success of electors, go ahead. I'd have no issue with you adding an extra table. But don't override the information already there. Display name 99 (talk) 18:21, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
:::{{ping|Display_name_99}} There is the infobox already showing the most voted presidential elector results. Yilku1 (talk) 18:37, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
::::It fails to give a complete tally. If I want to see the percentage of votes that a third party candidate won, I cannot see it from the infobox. Display name 99 (talk) 19:35, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
:::::{{ping|Display_name_99}} You can add the percentages in the tables then, dont' delete everything. Yilku1 (talk) 20:12, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

Heads up re your changes to US presidential election articles
I noticed that you recently added an "Electoral College selection" to a number of US presidential election articles. The information in the added section isn't sourced, and I couldn't find any evidence for it. If you can't add a citation I'm going to revert these. Regards, Dan Bloch (talk) 23:02, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
:{{ping|Danbloch}} The source is in the election article for the presidential election in Georgia. Yilku1 (talk) 23:06, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
::You're misreading the sources. The electors are described as at large or representing individual districts, but the voting for each of them is statewide. Note how the number of votes for all the Democratic electors is about 455,000 and for all the Republican electors is about 273,000. Dan Bloch (talk) 23:34, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
:::That's from 1960 United States presidential election in Georgia ↗. I'm not sure what article you had in mind. Dan Bloch (talk) 23:37, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
::::{{ping|Danbloch}} It's hard to tell because there is literally no info about individual elector votes on the internet. The only place where they are shown is if the state Official Register is digitalized. Yilku1 (talk) 23:52, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
:::::If you look at https://books.google.com.ar/books?id=0neujn0mIq0C&pg=PA179&lpg=PA179#v=onepage&q&f=false ↗, one of the sources from 1960 United States presidential election in Georgia ↗, you can see that the votes for individual representatives range from 24,000 to 80,000, while the combined number of votes in each of the races for electors is about 728,000. This is pretty clear evidence that the elector votes are statewide.
:::::But even if that weren't the case, inferring that the state is using the congressional district method from vote totals would be WP:OR ↗. Dan Bloch (talk) 00:14, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
::::::{{ping|Danbloch}} I hadn't noticed that. The only way to be sure is to read the election law from that time, a thing that is almost impossible. Yilku1 (talk) 00:46, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
:::::::But that takes us back to where we started. Without a reliable source, Wikipedia shouldn't say that Georgia elections used the congressional district method. Dan Bloch (talk) 01:24, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

By-election maps
Hi, I notice you're removing a lot of maps from by-elections. This got challenged at 2019_Brecon_and_Radnorshire_by-election ↗ but you simply reverted the challenge without talking about it. Once you've been bold, and been reverted, it's time to discuss before reverting-the-reversion (that's the start of an edit war). Since opinions clearly differ on this, and a lot of by-election articles do contain maps, may I suggest seeking discussion somewhere appropriate, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject_Politics_of_the_United_Kingdom ↗, before unilaterally deleting any further maps? Elemimele (talk) 16:07, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
:{{ping|Elemimele}} The discussion here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elections and Referendums#Non-map images in infobox's map section ↗. Yilku1 (talk) 17:27, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
::Okay, thanks! That's fair enough, I apologise for reverting you at Brecon and Radnorshire. I was ambivalent about the maps; in the cases I checked, hovering on the name of the region brought up the same map anyway. It's helpful for readers to be able to find a map ''somewhere'', but I agree it doesn't have to be in the info-box. Many best wishes! Elemimele (talk) 20:19, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

- {{DCWC participant|Arconning}} – 305 points, including from six seasonally-appropriate Olympics-related good articles.
- {{DCWC participant|Generalissima}} – 290 points, the bulk from her featured article about Greenlandic interpreter Qalaherriaq ↗ and two China-related good articles.
- {{DCWC participant|AirshipJungleman29}} – 245 points, mostly from the achievement of bringing Genghis Khan ↗ to featured status.
- {{DCWC participant|Thebiguglyalien}} – 144 points from three good articles, including two about Kiribati elections, and four reviews of good article nominees.
Looking for ways to climb up the leaderboard yourself? Help out your fellow participants by answering a few '''review requests ↗''', particularly the older entries. The coordinators would like to highlght some of the newer faces who have been making notable contributions in the contest, including but by no means limited to:
- {{DCWC participant|Arconning}} – 386 points, with several good articles ↗ primarily relating to the Olympics

- {{DCWC participant|TheNuggeteer}} – 126 points, who has contributed to several articles associated with the Phillippines
- {{DCWC participant|Jaguarnik}} – 125 points, with several good article reviews and an appearance in the In the news ↗ section of the Main Page
- {{DCWC participant|Averageuntitleduser}} – 119 points, and has written about several Haitian topics and historical figures.
Only one month remains until the end of the contest, so it's time to make your remaining nominations! Please consider answering some '''review requests ↗''', particularly the older entries, as a way of helping out your fellow participants and moving up the leaderboard. Good luck!

DCWC closing update
The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest ↗ has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, <span class="nowrap">30px|Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place ↗ </span>{{DCWC participant|Thebiguglyalien}} comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; <span class="nowrap">30px|Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place ↗ </span>{{DCWC participant|BeanieFan11}} flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, <span class="nowrap">30px|Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place ↗ </span>{{DCWC participant|Generalissima}} finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle ↗. Congratulations to our winners!
In addition to his spot in the top three, {{DCWC participant|BeanieFan11}} also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! {{DCWC participant|Magentic Manifestations}}, after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, {{DCWC participant|Simongraham}} wins for most article reviews.
The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia ↗. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

following up briefly re: WP:COMMONNAME
I was about to start a discussion at WT:AT to ask whether consensus has changed re: the spelling of people's names (which is certainly possible, I honestly don't know what consensus is about this right now), and as I was composing my question, I found myself wanting to understand your take on this better. How do you decide which non-commonname spellings to use: is it on the basis of the person's native language? is it limited to accents or would you also move Novak Djokovic ↗ to Novak Đoković ↗ (currently a redirect)? would you also move articles for people where the native spelling uses a different script (e.g., Arabic, Chinese)?
Also, a question I just posted at the Deportation of Kilmar Ábrego García ↗ talk: do you know whether the correct spelling for the first of his last names is Ábrego vs. Abrego? I'm asking because some Spanish language reporting uses the former and some uses the latter (they all consistently use García).
Thanks, FactOrOpinion (talk) 13:49, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:{{ping|FactOrOpinion}} Just in Spanish, there is no reason to not use the correct spelling just because English news don't have a keyboard with accents, also all names from people in Spanish-speaking countries in Wikipedia have accents. English and Spanish use the same alphabet, not the same with transliterating Arabic or Chinese.
:"Ábrego vs. Abrego"
:Mmm I don't know. Yilku1 (talk) 19:49, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
::Thanks for explaining your view. I'll think a bit more about what I want to ask at WT:AT.
::English news sources do use diacritics for some Spanish names (e.g., Gabriel García Márquez, example ↗) and for some people's names with other countries of origin (here's a Turkish example ↗), but it's quite inconsistent, and I think more likely if the person is well-known (a writer, actor, politician, ...). I agree that it doesn't make sense for transliterations, but there are many languages besides Spanish that have alphabets that are similar to English but use diacritics, and I don't think it makes any sense to say "always use accents for Spanish but not French or Turkish." FactOrOpinion (talk) 22:55, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
::I did start a discussion ↗ at WT:AT if you'd like to join in with your perspective. FactOrOpinion (talk) 12:46, 9 April 2025 (UTC)

Presidential elections
Prior to the direct election era, when the electoral colleges were elected (e.g. in 1922 Argentine general election ↗), were the candidates' names actually on the ballot? I was wondering whether the electoral college table should include the candidates or not (should the results sections instead look like 1931 Finnish presidential election ↗)? Cheers, <span style="color: orange;">Number</span> <span style="color: green;">5</span><span style="color: blue;">7</span> ↗ 18:56, 6 July 2025 (UTC)

Dutch elections
Hello - I noticed you updated a lot of Dutch election articles a few months ago to use Kiesraad as a source. Unfortunately I don't believe it is a reliable source as it seems to be riddled with errors for historic elections; the party totals and valid votes should be the same for every elections since the move to PR in 1918. I found a better official source for the 1933 results (CBS), which adds up to the same valid votes figure given by Kiesraad and the number given in Nohlen & Stöver. The Kiesraad figures for invalid and electorate also look wrong wrong – this source ↗ (the previous one) has the same invalid and electorate figures as Nohlen & Stöver. I've also updated the 1937 article but I think any article sourced to Kiesraad where the valid and party totals don't match need sorting out. Cheers, <span style="color: orange;">Number</span> <span style="color: green;">5</span><span style="color: blue;">7</span> ↗ 22:59, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
:I've done all the inter-war ones and up to 1959, but I think 1963, 1967 and 1971 will need sorting. Thereafter Kiesraad matches other sources. <span style="color: orange;">Number</span> <span style="color: green;">5</span><span style="color: blue;">7</span> ↗ 23:43, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
::Hi @Number 57, thanks. You're right that there are problems with the overall statistics of Kiesraad (there are less valid votes in 1925 than total votes for all parties). I don't understand why the Kiesraad isn't fixing these issues. I do want to highlight that CBS isn't perfect either (see the comment at the top of Kiesraad 1937 ↗).
::And there is another ''problem'', neither of these figures are the official outcome. Both CBS and Kiesraad (which mainly used CBS numbers) collected the outcomes per municipalities and combined them for statistical purposes. But these numbers are different from the official outcome, which is used on List of candidates in the 1925 Dutch general election ↗. In the case of Union of Actualists ↗, the official outcome should be 2144. And that outcome has been used to calculate the number of seats (although I don't expect the difference to be sufficiently big to lead to another outcome). I do understand why we continue to use the Nohlen & Stöver numbers, because these numbers have gained some notability in secundary sources. Dajasj (talk) 06:31, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
::{{Ping|Number_57}} What do you do when 2 official sources have different results? 😑 Yilku1 (talk) 20:57, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
:::Try and work out which one is right by comparing with third party sources? I think in this case it was fairly straightforward as the Kiesraad numbers didn't add up (I'm guessing they have a database issue). <span style="color: orange;">Number</span> <span style="color: green;">5</span><span style="color: blue;">7</span> ↗ 21:02, 24 July 2025 (UTC)

DCWC closing update
Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest ↗ came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners. <span class="nowrap">30px|Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place ↗ </span>{{DCWC participant/2025|Vigilantcosmicpenguin}}, continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa ↗, comes in third with 692 points. <span class="nowrap">30px|Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place ↗ </span>{{DCWC participant/2025|Simongraham}} comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spider ↗s. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row, <span class="nowrap">30px|Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place ↗ </span>{{DCWC participant/2025|BeanieFan11}} takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!
Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both {{DCWC participant/2025|BeanieFan11}} and {{DCWC participant/2025|Simongraham}}, who each submitted articles under 30 flags! {{DCWC participant/2025|BeanieFan11}} also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador, {{DCWC participant/2025|PizzaKing13}} wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both {{DCWC participant/2025|Spookyaki}} (7 biographies about women) and {{DCWC participant/2025|Vigilantcosmicpenguin}} (21 related articles). And for the second year, {{DCWC participant/2025|Simongraham}} wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!
Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

Just found out about this functionality - potentially useful for long results tables. I've tested it here ↗. Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :File:Paddy Roy Bates.png ↗
48px|left|alt=|link= ↗
A tag has been placed on :File:Paddy Roy Bates.png ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because it is a non-free file ↗ from a commercial source (e.g. Associated Press ↗, Getty Images ↗), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary. If you can explain why the file can be used under the non-free content guidelines ↗, please add the appropriate non-free use tag ↗ and rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-badfairuse-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <span class="nowrap" style="border:solid 4q magenta;border-radius:9in;box-shadow:0 0 9q magenta"> <math>999</math>REAL 💬 ⬆ ↗ </span> 23:29, 27 December 2025 (UTC)
1951 Argentine general election ↗
There seems to be a load of missing votes in the Chamber? The valid votes total in the fixed table was 7,205,312 but in the automatically totalled one it only comes to 7,053,225? ::{{ping|Number_57}} Thanks, I fixed the 1951 results. In 1958 Nohlen used the same numbers for president and deputies, I don't know why. Double simultaneous vote was never used. Before 1963 people could vote for individual candidates. Yilku1 (talk) 20:01, 29 December 2025 (UTC)

Gambian elections
I saw you removed a lot of these articles from the incomplete results category. I believe they are still incomplete as invalid votes are possible but just rarely published (e.g. 41 in the 2007 Gambian parliamentary election ↗). I am not sure how, but I assume there must be some voting taking place via a different method to the balls in buckets (possibly overseas or postal votes). <span style="color: orange;">Number</span> <span style="color: green;">5</span><span style="color: blue;">7</span> ↗ 11:11, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

Censure of Jeri over impeachment
There's no need to start an edit war over this, WP:RS ↗ has already admitted a mistake in branding it as an impeachment and clairfications are being made. The legal ramification of it has in all sources been described as a censure as it was his position as President of the Congress of Peru ↗ and not president. Impeachment requires 87 votes, removal as his title required a simple majority.
BBC ↗: "Correction 18 February: An earlier version of this article said José Jerí had been impeached as Peru's president. This was later updated to say he had been ousted by Congress to better reflect the parliamentary procedure used to remove him from office." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cz7gvdx457vo ↗
NBC News ↗ "This interim status was used to remove him from the presidency on Tuesday. Unlike impeachment, which requires a supermajority of 87 in the 130-member legislature, Congress voted to censure Jerí, which strips him of his title as head of Congress with a simple majority." https://www.nbcnews.com/world/south-america/peru-congress-ousts-president-china-linked-secret-meetings-rcna259489 ↗
Reuters ↗ This interim status was used to remove him from the presidency on Tuesday. Unlike impeachment, which requires a supermajority of 87 in the 130-member legislature, Congress voted to censure Jeri, which strips him of his title as head of Congress with a simple majority.https://www.reuters.com/world/china/perus-congress-begins-debating-removal-president-jeri-2026-02-17/ ↗
Wikipedia is a reflection of the actual meaning of things, in this case legal ramification, not a mistake made by foreign journalists when the articles were first published. Reliable sources per WP:RS ↗ that have updated their articles reject it as an impeachment now. BastianMAT (talk) 13:33, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
