Undecidable

I undid all of my edits because math stuff is over my head. :) I tried to make a go but decided that it wasn't worth it. Thanks for the heads up though. --User:Woohookitty Disamming fool! 10:18, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Would You like to Help?

Hi, I am starting Wikipedia:WikiProject Ravidassia ↗. I would like to get help from people who are interested. You may sign up for the project on the http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ravidassia&action=edit&section=5 ↗. McKinseies (talk) 14:32, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Not "software"?

Your edit summary here ↗ reads: "this isn't a list of software, it's a list of formats". Kindly explain. Fleet Command (talk) 17:44, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

:Take the first item on the list (VST), for example. A VST plug-in is a piece of software, but none of the hundreds of existing VST plug-ins is listed in the table. What is listed in the table is VST itself - the plug-in format (which is basically a specification of what VST plug-ins and VST hosts are - how they are required to behave and interact with one another). --Zundark (talk) 18:21, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

::Now, I am officially confused. You basically rephrased your edit summary in longer sentences. Could you please actually explain it? Fleet Command (talk) 06:16, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

:::I thought I did. I don't consider that "List of software" is an appropriate section heading for a list of formats, even when the formats are software formats (just as I wouldn't consider "List of files" as an appropriate heading for a section that lists file formats). If you would like me to explain further, it would help if you first told me what it is that you don't understand, or that you disagree with. For example, there's no point in me writing a lengthy explanation as to why VST is a plug-in format, if in fact you already agree that it is. --Zundark (talk) 08:36, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

::::Let's not horrify you with a statement like "define format"! I know a lot of formats; container file formats, archive formats, video formats, audio formats, music format, document formats, raster and vector image formats and even executable file formats.

::::I also know DirectX. It is a software library exposed through an API. I know how to install it and I know how to access it through a programming language like Delphi or C#.

::::So, DirectX format? It sounds like a form of predetermined data storage, say a record or class. But you say it isn't. Besides, formats, as I know them, cannot transform or synthesize anything. Yes, data related to these tasks may be stored in records and exposed through classes and interfaces (that is, formats) but but you obviously do not mean any of these.

::::So, please define "format". Fleet Command (talk) 12:58, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

:::::I'm not going to define ''format''. I would actually prefer ''protocol'' here, but the fact is that ''plug-in format'' is much more common terminology than ''plug-in protocol''. Actually, ''plug-in architecture'' is reasonably common, and I'm happy with that. How about you?

:::::Regarding DirectX, it isn't DirectX itself that is listed, it's the (much more obscure) DirectX plug-in protocol. --Zundark (talk) 14:43, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

::::::Right. Whatever. Fleet Command (talk) 19:20, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Commons Categories

On "File:Woolbeding Fountain DSC 2006.jpg" in commons you deleted category Woolbedding as well as Category:Fountains in the United Kingdom. I can easily understand that Category:Fountains in West Sussex is correct as being at a lower level than Category:Fountains in the United Kingdom. What I do not understand is why the rather different geographical limb of the tree should be eliminated as well. Excuse my ignorance; I am only learning slowly about categories. SovalValtos (talk) 20:49, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

::Thank you. Obvious now. I think I was confused by not all categories being displayed, and the summary referring to 'a redundant category' being removed rather than 'redundant categories' I am grateful that you replied. SovalValtos (talk) 21:24, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Journalist reaching out

Hi Zundark,

I'm a reporter currently enrolled in Columbia's journalism program. I'm working on a story about climate change on wikipedia, and it appears to me that you were among the first to edit the page on global warming. Hoping you might be willing to talk. (Apologies if I'm using the user talk function incorrectly — still learning the ropes here.) You can reach me at alex.lubben@columbia.edu.

Hope you're well!

All best,

:I don't think I’ve made any substantial edits to that article at all. My edit on 30 October 2001‎ was just to fix a couple of typos, as my edit summary shows. All earlier edits have been lost from the history (due to the way the wiki software worked back then), so it looks like I wrote a whole article on global warming, but that is not the case. --Zundark (talk) 07:14, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Take Me, I'm Yours ↗

Hello Zundark, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Take Me, I'm Yours ↗, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Take Me, I'm Yours ↗.

Deletion discussions ↗ usually run for seven days and are ''not'' votes. Our guide ↗ about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability ↗, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with <code><nowiki>{{Re|</nowiki>DoctorWhoFan91<nowiki>}}</nowiki></code>. And don't forget to sign your reply with <code><nowiki>~~~~</nowiki></code> . Thanks!
