Hello! Can you show me how to make a column in the page for wikipedia --Retired With Honors (talk) 21:04, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Retired With Honors, I'm not an expert, usually I just look at the raw wikitext and try to figure it out (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Demographics_of_Abkhazia&action=edit&section=2 ↗). Question from Rikkugon (23:00, 25 January 2026)

Hello! I'm new here. I signed up primarily to help improve the citations the "Chapman Stick" and similar pages. However, my background is in neuroscience and biomedical research, and I hope to eventually contribute to these areas as well. I'm very pleased to have been assigned a mentor!
My first question is a technical one. I'm putting in a citation for a book authored by the inventor of the Chapman Stick, which he originally self-published in 1974. (I realize there are potential problems with self-publishing, but this is the best source for a lot of details about the instrument.) At the beginning of the book, it list "copyright 1974, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1989 and 2004," as I assume the first date he published it and dates when he added material to update the book.
The citation template doesn't seem to like it when I put in all these years...Can you point me to where I can find specific details about this kind of citation, as well as other book citations (i.e. listing the whole book once and listing specific page ranges later)? I would much appreciate it! --Rikkugon (talk) 23:00, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Rebecca at Endgame, most of the time you just make an edit and that's it, it's applied immediately. Trust me, there is a local consensus on any articles about the Ukraine article that says neutrality does not matter and we must dispute all Russian propaganda. I'd recommend just leaving it alone - no good will come of it and the local consensus will not permit itself to be shifted. There are not enough people who care deeply enough about article neutrality to be willing to get called a Vatnik to shift it. Simonm223 (talk) 15:44, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Wilcov94 on Boncelles ↗ (23:09, 3 March 2026)

:''Note: Wilcov94's mentor Relativity is away.''
Hi, I have two questions. The first is do I add the citation at the end of the sentence if if the information only pertains to the first half of the sentence.
Secondly, would a city website the contains information about the subject administrative structure be considered reliable in this case? Because the one source I've been able to find that isn't a city website isn't great either. --Wilcov94 (talk) 23:09, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Wilcov94, sorry for the delayed response. I'm not aware of strict rules concerning placing citations. It would probably be more useful for the reader if you place it after the first half of the sentence which it supports. Assuming that the administrative structure isn't controversial, the official city website should be fine. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 20:16, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Why do you think the RfC should be "halted"?

Alaexis, regarding your intervention here ↗, why do you think the RfC should be halted? Why do you think consensus wording won't be established ''through'' the RfC? إيان (talk) 07:29, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

:Per WP:RFCBEFORE ↗, {{tq|RfCs are time-consuming, and Wikipedia being a volunteer project, editor time is valuable. If you are considering an RfC to resolve a dispute between editors, you should try first to resolve your issues other ways.}} In my view, both the current wording and your proposed alternative are problematic. RfCs force editors to pick sides when !voting and aren't well suited to crafting consensus wording. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 08:02, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
::There has been plenty of WP:RFCBEFORE ↗. The RfC does not {{tq|force editors to pick sides}}. It brings a wider selection of editors to contribute to the conversation with reasoned arguments. If you believe {{tq|both the current wording and your proposed alternative are problematic}} explain why in the RfC and it will help build toward a better article that represents a broader, more solid consensus. إيان (talk) 09:02, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
:::If you ask a yes/no question like "Should X be in the article?" you steer commenters towards yes/no answers. I explained why I think it's not helpful in this case. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 09:33, 9 March 2026 (UTC)

::::Hey Alaexis, just wanted to let you know that I started a section for sourcing ↗ in the RfC. Your intervention in an editing dispute (22Nov2025)

Hello, Alaexis.
In last November, I’ve edited (corrected?) the lead section of Hamas ↗, but gave my motivation not clearly enough, giving a reference in the edit summary to Talk:Hamas/Archive 34#Motivation for edit lead section (‘1967 borders’) date 21Nov2025 ↗ but also rather mysterious statements in that edit summary itself. The edit was directly reverted by Smallangryplanet who used three tricks to make it seem he did give a motivation for reverting, while actually he did not. The foremost of those tricks was, to say in edit summary: “{{tq|This misrepresents the RS}}” but not explaining that allegation. He must have copied that trick from Raskolnikov.Rev who had used it three times before. (I explained all Smp’s tricks comprehensively on User talk:Smallangryplanet#Your behaviour on pages Hamas and Talk:Hamas, 14Feb2026.)

Directly after Smp’s revert, you re-reverted the edit, with this edit summary: “rv; {{tq|this is supported by multiple sources that discuss the long-term goals of Hamas (see Talk:Hamas#Correcting_the_lead_sentence_about_accepting_the_1967_borders_(improved_proposal))}}; consensus rule is not veto power”. Although it may seem friendly of you to re-revert the edit, I think your edit summary was mysterious, and seemed not to comment on the exposed basic disagreement between me(Cb) and Smp: my position saying the Wikipedia version misrepresents the cited quote of Seurat (with long explanation on talk page), Smp’s position saying my proposed version misrepresents Seurat (with no explanation at all). In stead of taking a side in the exposed disagreement, you brought in a fully new position, saying (in your linked talk posting):”{{tq|the long-term goals remain the same, so the current wording is misleading}}(…)”. Regardless whether that argument is right or not, your re-revert seemed to blurr and confuse the situation, firstly because you’re not ''stating'' your argument but only linking to it being given on talk page, secondly because you seem to ignore the obviously exposed ‘fight’ between two opposing editors. I don’t suspect or blame you of any ill will, I rather presume you were confused (and angry) by the hassling going on; nevertheless, perhaps in retrospect you would agree that your intervention did not help to clear the situation because in stead of supporting one of the two opposing positions you added a third position (which would probably have made it very difficult for new, uninvolved observers to take any stance at all in this blurred situation).

I’m not blaming you, but if you had managed to notice and remark that Smp had not given a real concrete motivation, it would probably have been more difficult for Raskolnikov.Rev after you to simply repeat a position (“{{tq|The edit distorts what the RS states}}” accompanied by some nonsense remarks) that had already been revealed as to be unacceptably vague, and thus ‘settle the score’. I’m not accusing you of anything, I’m just trying to analyse your actions, and discuss whether they’ve been helpful or effective to clear up or settle an obvious disagreement between two previous editors. Perhaps, if a similar situation occurs again on some Wikipedia article, it would be more productive to comment on the two given and opposing positions and choose sides between them? --Corriebertus (talk) 19:48, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

:@Corriebertus, just wanted to acknowledge I saw your message, will respond later. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 18:14, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
:First of all, thanks for your feedback. I don't remember these events in detail and I have neither time nor desire to spend time on reconstructing my thinking and motivation on November 21. It's quite plausible that indeed I misunderstood the disagreement between the two of you. I'll try to be more careful in future.
:At the same time, I'm not sure that I agree with your overall framing and assumptions. Often, when there exists a disagreement between two editors and the first <s>blood has been spilled</s> reverts have been made, it's more helpful to introduce new facts or re-frame the discussion, rather than "choos[ing] sides between them". Cheers! Alaexis¿question? ↗ 18:10, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi!

I recently added to the Dallas Mavericks ↗ section of the Patrick Dumont ↗ article about Patrick Dumont’s open letter to fans, the firing of GM Nico Harrison, and a courtside fan interaction acknowledging the Luka Dončić trade. All content is fully sourced with reliable references: Yahoo Sports, NBA.com, AP, and Reuters.

My edit was flagged as “possible BLP issue or vandalism,” likely because it involves recent events. Could you please review the edit and confirm that it meets Wikipedia’s standards so the flag can be removed?

Here’s the section I added (for your reference):

Thank you. --StandardDeviatedSeptuagenarian (talk) 21:11, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @StandardDeviatedSeptuagenarian, unfortunately the vanilla editor doesn't flag syntax errors. Just use preview to check that you don't introduce errors. If it's something complex, look at examples and ask your LLM of choice for help.
:As to the talk pages, WP:BRD ↗ is a sensible framework that you can use. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 09:18, 25 March 2026 (UTC)

Mentioned at an arbitration case

Hi, Alaexis. I am giving you a heads up here that I have mentioned you in an arbitration case related to a third opinion situation you tried to help with years ago. The case is called Maghreb ↗ and I mentioned you in the evidence sub-page ↗ with a direct link to my comment here: Evidence presented by Super Goku V ↗. To make this clear, you are not a party to the case and I believe that there is no issue with your editing nor with the help that you provided at the time. Question from Robbinrh (19:19, 4 April 2026)

Hi:
Yes, thanks for contacting me. There is a Wikipedia page about me (actually there have been two) that someone else created, and I have no problems with it. However, it did need some updating and I tried to do that myself and noted that in the edits, but apparently that violated some editorial policies. I understand that, so I certainly apologize for doing that. The question is, are there circumstances that allow someone to edit a page about themselves that they didn't create? I had recently recieived an email from someone asking whether I wanted my page edited, but I throught it might have been spam, and didn't respond, although I also noted that the page asks for additional information.
Thanks,
--Richard --Robbinrh (talk) 19:19, 4 April 2026 (UTC)

:Hey @Robbinrh, I don't remember contacting you but I'd be happy to assist you. In general, editing with the conflict of interest is frowned upon. If there are inaccuracies or gaps, I'd suggest you propose them at the talk page, backed up by sources. Other editors would most likely either make the changes or explain why they can't be done. Note that even if you have a WP page, it doesn't mean that your list of works would automatically be included. If you're curious, see WP:RS ↗ for out definition of reliable sources. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 21:38, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
::Thanks! You were listed as my contact person for information. I'll check with the talk page. Also, is it normal to be contacted by someone offering to help with your page?
::--Richard Robbinrh (talk) 01:19, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
:::"is it normal to be contacted by someone offering to help with your page"
:::I suppose they proposed to do it for a compensation? WP:PAID ↗ editing is a thing, but you should be aware that many paid editors tend to promise things they cannot deliver (or they might publish something and in a few days it gets deleted). Also, there are paid editors who violate the disclosure rules and eventually they get caught and all the changes they've done get deleted. So ultimately it's your call, if I were you I'd see if I can sort things out for free first. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 07:25, 5 April 2026 (UTC)

While browsing the code and issue tracker for your {{GitHub|alex-o-748/citation-checker-script}} (which I haven't done im a while), I discovered the scrape-talk-page workflow which looks like it could be useful for a lot of user scripts that are hosted on GitHub. Hello, I would like to know how I should word 3 events in the Nanango wikipedia page, under the history section. The information I would like to add is about the 1905 murder of Johnny Do, the accused was Wallum Nabby, he was found not guilty, in 1906, Wallum Nabby was accused of buring down barn, the Crown did not proceed with the prosecution after no true bill was filed, and in 1907, Nabby was murdered by August Millewski, who was executed via hanging on December 16, 1907. If any more information is required, such as links, I am happy to send it to you.

Sveiki, Alaexis!

Question from Settignano (16:05, 14 June 2026)

Hallo!
At least two months ago, I began rereading the pages of defunct British airlines. It's been hard work because I've found a lot of incorrect data, missing information, and sometimes very few valid images.
In this work, I'm drawing on a considerable amount of written documentation, photocopies, original press articles, and books.
Unfortunately, I've been plagued by intrusions for some time: they correct every little flaw, sometimes they intrude while I'm working. The {{In use}} label doesn't seem to work. I've identified a couple of these intruders, but for now, I haven't filed any official protests.
Can you help improve or resolve this situation? --Settignano (talk) 16:05, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

::Please have a look to BMI/British Midland Airways and Dan-Air airline page.

::::I have an archive of thousands of airline images, a huge archive of printed materials and press cuttings, and a library of nearly 100 books on air transport. Settignano (talk) 10:30, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::@Settignano, your work is not destroyed - everything is saved in the revision history. You can open your revision, add sources and save the article anew.

:::::::If your edit has been reverted, in most cases the two best courses of action are a) fix the issues noted by the other user or b) discuss the issue at the talk page. So just fix the inconsistency and ensure that what you're adding is backed up by sources. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 16:55, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

How do I translate languages into English? When I translate articles into French I find no difficulty and Wikipedia allows me. It says I have to be more experienced to translate, is there any way around this as I am fluent in both languages, I do not see why I cannot translate.
-Thank you. --SaintCedar (talk) 14:53, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @SaintCedar, not sure I understand. Who told you you can't translate into English? Alaexis¿question? ↗ 20:37, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
::Hello thanks for your reply,
::When I try to translate the article for Almaza (beer), it shows me this: "Your translation cannot be published because publishing is only allowed to more experienced editors on this wiki."
::Thank you. SaintCedar (talk) 12:33, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Are you using some kind of a translation tool? Probably it only allows users with certain permissions to create articles.
:::Have you creating an article directly? Alaexis¿question? ↗ 12:52, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::::No, as soon as I open the article to translate, the warning appears. I use the special translating page on Wikipedia evry time. SaintCedar (talk) 12:54, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Ah, so it looks like you're using Wikipedia:Content translation tool ↗ which is restricted to WP:XCON ↗ users. My advice is just to create an article directly - in the mainspace if you're sure it satisfies the policies or in the draft space if you aren't sure. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 12:58, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::Alright understood, thank you SaintCedar (talk) 13:07, 18 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Tmntpizzasm (19:01, 17 June 2026)

I would like to change a photo for Myles Rowser. The current photo is not good for kids to see. Can you help me? --Tmntpizzasm (talk) 19:01, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Tmntpizzasm, this looks like the only picture of this guy available on Commons ↗. So replacing this image requires a) having another image released under a suitable license and b) achieving consensus on the talk page ↗ regarding the image choice. Edit revert

Hi Alaexis, I thought you might like to know an editor has reverted ↗<nowiki> your past edit to the Azrieli Group article, where you had removed content because "some of the information doesn't belong to the article (like the biography of the founder) and the sources are inappropriate." Cheers ~~~~</nowiki> RM Azrieli (talk) 05:33, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hi Alaexis, thought you might like to know your past edit to Azrieli Group was reverted ↗ again. Looks like that editor was warned for edit warring as well. RM Azrieli (talk) 11:53, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

Question from SaintCedar (12:49, 24 June 2026)

Hello Alaexis again,
How would one add a temporal range to an article's infobox, primarily for animals and other historical things? Thank you. SaintCedar (talk) 12:49, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

:Do you have a picture that you want to add? Is it uploaded to :Commons ↗? Can you give an example of an article that has it? Alaexis¿question? ↗ 15:22, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
::On the Mammal ↗ article, when you press on the infobox you should see at the top a timeline. Thats what I was looking for. Thank you, SaintCedar (talk) 15:32, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
:::See the code below Alaexis<sub>¿question? ↗</sub> 15:40, 24 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Chitra nayak (20:40, 27 June 2026)

Hello, I want to add a photo to someone's wikipedia page, and tried suggesting it in Talk, with a link to the person's LinkedIn page. Is this the right way?

Thank you!
Chitra --Chitra nayak (talk) 20:40, 27 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Chitra nayak, does this photo exist on Commons already? Ideally it should be uploaded there with an appropriate licence and then it can be used in any Wikimedia project. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 10:08, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
::No, but it is a photo on the LinkedIn page that the person had uploaded themselves. I thought LinkedIn photos were available to the public? But perhaps not how it works? Thanks, I am new to this. Chitra nayak (talk) 14:58, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
:::No, Linkedin photos are definitely not available to the public. You need to either take a photo yourself or have the author release it under a suitable licence - which is a rather involved process. See :commons:Commons:First_steps ↗. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 20:41, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Thank you for clarifying, I have reviewed the guidelines and understand better. Much appreciated! Chitra nayak (talk) 20:48, 28 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from PlumOtter (13:40, 30 June 2026)

Hello! I'm new to Wikipedia and was hoping you could give me some guidance.

I want to be transparent that I'm researching my father, Alonzo Glenn Suson, so I understand that I have a conflict of interest. I'm not looking for special treatment, I simply want to know whether I'm approaching this correctly.

Alonzo Glenn Suson has had a decades long career as a labor organizer and workers' rights advocate, serving with ILWU Local 37, KDP, SEIU, and later as Country Program Director for the Solidarity Center in Cambodia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.

So far I've found books covering Filipino American labor history, independent newspaper articles where he is interviewed or quoted, Human Rights Watch reports, archival records and a biographical entry at the Labor Archives of Washington, and a recorded oral history interview about his role in KDP and the campaign for justice after the assassinations of Gene Viernes and Silme Domingo.

My main question is where the line is between having enough reliable evidence to verify an important career and having enough independent, substantial coverage to satisfy the General Notability Guideline. Based on what I've found so far, do you think this seems worth continuing to research as a potential standalone biography? If so, what types of sources would you recommend I prioritize?

Thank you very much! --PlumOtter (talk) 13:40, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @PlumOtter, this sounds promising. I can't say definitely yes unless I see the sources. Quality is more important than quantity, so if there are even a couple of sources that are *about* your father and cover him extensively, this is better from the policy point of view than having many sources that mention him in passing. Question from Solopreneur8 (19:12, 30 June 2026)

Hi -
I am a mortgage executive and the author of 4 books about different aspects of mortgage lending. I would like to create a page listing the books, and with a few words about myself and my background. No marketing. Will that meet the guidelines? --Solopreneur8 (talk) 19:12, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hi, you need to decide on the topic - the name of the article. In any case you clearly have a conflict of interest ↗ which means that you should create a WP:DRAFT ↗ and submit it for review. Cheers! Alaexis¿question? ↗ 17:47, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

Question from Obseque (17:45, 1 July 2026)

Hi Alaexis! I have a question for you, as a mentor: Are major edits generally frowned upon?

I recently published a fairly large edit (-22k) to an article. I stand behind every change I made, and honestly could have done much more if I had the time and energy. Looking at the change history, I'm starting to feel a bit sheepish about it, since all other recent changes are at least 100x smaller. --Obseque (talk) 17:45, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Obseque, thanks for your work improving the article. Major edits are not frowned upon - it's just the size of edits follows a non-uniform distribution and naturally most of edits will be small. One caveat I should mention is that if you introduce a lot of changes at once it makes it harder for other editors to review them so consider splitting them into smaller chunks (1-3k) and adding edit summaries to each change. If you're working on something controversial, other editors might have issues with it. If your edits are smaller, then you give them the opportunity to revert only the changes they have issues with rather than everything which would be very frustrating for you after having invested so much time in it. Alaexis¿question? ↗ 08:14, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
::Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the thoughtful response! Obseque (talk) 18:41, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
