PROD
When you add a PROD template, your message should only give your reason and reference notability or deletion policy. Given your areas of interest, the most relevant ones to you are probably WP:ORG ↗ and WP:NPOL ↗. Do not ask rhetorical questions or leave snarky comments addressed to nobody or editors at large. Other editors are less likely to back up your proposals if they think you are not doing things seriously. <big><span style="color:#757575; font-family:Consolas, monospace">''Yue''</span>🌙</big> 07:10, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
:@Yue I just do the prod and afd to relax after doing difficult serious stuff like recreating Coal-fired power station ↗. If anyone wanted to start prods and afds seriously I guess they would try and automate them further. Chidgk1 (talk) 07:35, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
::{{Reply|Chidgk1}} You can still relax and do AfDs ↗ and PRODs ↗ properly. I assumed in good faith ↗ that you understand deletion policy and how to do WP:BEFORE ↗, which is why I merely insisted you have a clear, policy-based PROD message. However, your suggestion that someone who would want to do PRODs and AfDs "seriously{{nbsp}}... would try and automate them further" leads me to believe you do not understand WP:BEFORE ↗.
::An article lacking sources ''presently'' is not immediate grounds for deletion; you are supposed to conduct a search yourself and conclude that no reliable, in-depth coverage exists. However, a lot of the reasons you give in your PRODs and AfDs amounts to ''asking'' for someone else out there to prove notability or just stating that there are no sources.
::Here are two examples of your proposed deletions being undone by different editors because you did not give a proper rationale (by Liz ↗ and by Kvng ↗). Starting an improper PROD is wasting the time and effort of two editors, albeit very little; starting an improper AfD is wasting ''a lot'' of time and effort for everyone. <big><span style="color:#757575; font-family:Consolas, monospace">''Yue''</span>🌙</big> 18:46, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
:::Chidgk1, I take your response as an indication that you don't promise to leave a well thought-out policy-based deletion rationale behind for PRODs and AFDs. This is not an appropriate response to a fellow editor's valid concern. If you are tired at the end of the day, you should not be tagging articles for deletion or doing them carelessly. I just saw a PROD you tagged with the comment "I doubt this is notable". That's not a good reason to delete an article because one editor doesn't think, for the 5 seconds they spent on it, that a subject is notable. BEFOREs are not required for PROD'd articles but you should still have a good, policy-based reason for deletion that is based on more than your doubts.
:::And the answer here is not to use more automation but for the tagger (YOU) to be more conscientious when you are considering tagging an article for deletion. You can easily receive a topic ban from deletion tagging if the effort is too much to ask of you. If you don't have the time or attention, then don't tag an article or file for deletion, it's as simple as that. <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">'''''L'''''iz</span> '''''Read!''''' ↗ '''''Talk!''''' 22:51, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Ever-growing Wheat ↗
Dear Chidgk 1, you'll be aware I'm trying to keep the Wheat from growing even larger. It is already a long article, and people are capable of raising a GA Review on the grounds of excessive length. Continual additions obviously make the risk of this steadily worse. I spent a good deal of time yesterday, not for the first time, working on reducing the article's length, so it is dispiriting to have yet another length increase this morning. "Worth mentioning" is how one talks when one is trying to build up an article; alternately, we could ask "is this really necessary?" when trying to prevent something from getting ever more seriously overweight. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 06:57, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
:@Chiswick Chap Firstly sorry for temporarily making the GA worse, but I could not see any other way of getting rid of the rubbish that was in the peak wheat article as deleting such articles is very difficult. I think that our changes together have now strengthened Wikipedias coverage of wheat as a whole. Chidgk1 (talk) 07:18, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Good morning, I am writing to follow up on our request to edit the page :Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change ↗, which is available on the talk page Talk:Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change ↗. Thank you in advance for your feedback, User:Aglauda 09:44, 20 August 2025 (CEST)
Hi! I finalized our last comments on the page Talk:Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change ↗, would you mind checking out the ''Updating 'Mission' section'' and ''Citations'' paragraphs? Thank you! User:Aglauda 12:36, 5 September 2025 (CEST)
AfDs
My point about PRODs about a month ago is even more important for AfDs. PRODs and AfDs are not processes used to cleanup articles lacking citations. The first consideration when coming upon an unsourced article is adding citations yourself and then proposing deletion after you've checked for sources yourself.
You should not be tagging articles with PRODs that merely state "Not notable" or something similar and then escalating to an AfD with the same non-policy-based reason. You have to explain in detail how you determined something is not notable to show you've done WP:BEFORE ↗. PRODs and AfDs aren't something you do half-heartedly, which you kind of implied in the previous discussion. Your response to another editor at your AfD nomination of Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (Manitoba) ↗ reminds me of your attitude in our previous discussion, which is quite dismissive, and it seems you didn't really take what I said about the onus being on you, not other editors, to do WP:BEFORE ↗ before nominating articles for deletion. You can make mistakes{{snd}}I've made a few with AfDs{{snd}}but you can't then turn that on other editors with comments like "If the provincial branch was as famous as you say then it should be quick and easy for you to cite". <big><span style="color:#757575; font-family:Consolas, monospace">''Yue''</span>🌙</big> 04:08, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
:I came here, @Yue because @Chidgk1 is ignoring their own AFD at CCF MB. Possible the most unnecessary AFD I've ever seen. I hadn't realised this was an ongoing problem - but reading a bit, I see that this has been an ongoing issue for months, if not longer. I can understand a mistake, which is then withdrawn quickly. But for not providing a proper nomination reason and not doing any BEFORE, and refusing to listen to those pointing out how extremely poor an AFD, and skipping the discussion? This seems to be a systemic issue. Is it time for a request at ANI for a topic ban from PROD and AFD? Nfitz (talk) 20:04, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
::{{Reply|Nfitz}} Without prejudice to Chidgk1's intentions (i.e. I assume they're not intentionally trying to be disruptive), I think the discussions here and at their failed proposal ↗ to turn PRODs into a form of fast-track cleanup by eliminating the requirement of WP:BEFORE ↗, which they were specifically criticised for, should have made it clear to them that the deletion process is not some minor form of article cleanup, and nobody but themself has a desire to change that.
::To be blunt, I don't think lazily flooding the PROD and AfD system with unjustified nominations as a past-time is helpful to the project because they waste the time of other editors, particularly responding administrators. It's also quite audacious to then respond to critiques by others editors by asking them to do the work for you. If Chidgk1 doesn't want to take the deletion process seriously because they just want to engage with it as a form of relaxation as they have said, then they shouldn't be engaging with it at all. <big><span style="color:#757575; font-family:Consolas, monospace">''Yue''</span>🌙</big> 18:37, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
:::Interesting. And digging into their history, I'm pleased to see some excellent editing work. I am troubled though that they find pissing off people by ignoring policy and creating work for otherse is a form of relaxation! Hopefully they can think about the bigger picture of their actions. 02:16, 4 September 2025 (UTC) Nfitz (talk) 02:16, 4 September 2025 (UTC)

::@Andy Dingley@Nfitz@Yue OK I have removed twinkle from my gadgets. As far as I can remember I have never done a manual AfD and I never intend to go through such a fiddle.
::As for PROD after doing one or two manually I would be fed up with such typing and would stop for the day.
::I don’t know if it is possible to technically block me from using twinkle, but if so you could do so and have me make some kind of formal request to get it back. I think that would be better as now I can just tick a box to get it back. And if you can technically block me from AfD that would be great. Chidgk1 (talk) 09:18, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
::Interesting. I'm not particularly versed in these topic areas. I'm surprised that they are completely unreferenced. But "underseal", really - how is something that is so well known going to pass any BEFORE? But also - why not just fix the articles (and why do these just languish)? The crawl ratio article is certainly an interesting read. Should the nomination for most of these AFDs be to merge, and not to delete? Anyhow, this is appears to be over ... so I guess we just move on. Nfitz (talk) 18:45, 14 September 2025 (UTC)

Russia
According to this ↗ you're not "sure" if the growth is "good" or not? What does that mean? In that sense, you're going by your instincts here and also claiming that you're not an economist in tandem? How does that make any sense? Also why are you demanding that others should add a source for your change in such a high-level article like this? <span style="color:#008B8B;font-family:Ferrareo;font-weight:bold;">Swoonfed</span> <span style="color:#000000;font-family:Ferrareo;font-weight:bold;">(Ping)</span> ↗ 13:53, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
:It is not changes that need to be sourced but content Chidgk1 (talk) 14:00, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
::Right. Let's see an example. For Turkey, its inflation was over 50% as of January 2026. Now, you do understand this type of double digit inflation inflates the nominal (USD) GDP significantly and makes it appear much more larger than the real GDP? So in that sense we're also not sure if the growth is "good" or not for Turkey as well. Why is the indicator green in Turkey and not gray like in Russia? Is this bias or Russo-centrism?
::Maybe we have to make the Russia article a special place, a bubble distinct from all country articles? <span style="color:#008B8B;font-family:Ferrareo;font-weight:bold;">Swoonfed</span> <span style="color:#000000;font-family:Ferrareo;font-weight:bold;">(Ping)</span> ↗ 13:53, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
:::Even though I live in Turkey I don’t understand the economy so I can’t say whether 2025 growth here was good or bad. Similarly I can’t say whether growth in Russia is good or bad nowadays as I don’t have a source for either good or bad.
:::Re bias I don’t support Putin but wouldn’t people who do support him prefer a grey arrow to a red one if the country goes into recession this year? As it might according to https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2026/feb/06/the-russian-economy-is-finally-stagnating-what-does-it-mean-for-the-war-and-for-putin Chidgk1 (talk) 14:19, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
::::Since you have no clue about the economy, why are you enforcing this change then? I'm still confused about the fact that we're following IMF statistics here but we're changing indicators based on news articles... that's some sort of contradiction as far as I'm aware because the source attached itself doesn't indicate anything of sort.
::::Anyway, I'm sure most editors aren't economists here. IMF forecasts are still not pointing to a recession, estimating a 1% growth. Again I'm not sure if we're really supposed to follow news headlines since these are the same news headlines who predicted Russia's economy would completely collapse in March-April 2022. Maybe we should avoid the sensational headlines and just stick to the IMF forecasts attached as of now, if they indeed indicate a recession you could change it to gray I guess?
::::Talking about dynamics, this article ↗ claims {{tq|"The housing problem, although not special to Türkiye, has emerged as another critical pressure point. Home ownership, once a cornerstone of middle-class security, has become unattainable for many salaried workers. Rent consuming more than a third of household income has pushed millions into what analysts describe as housing poverty."}} alongside claims of decreased wages and a shrinking middle class amid a historic apparent growth in nominal GDP due to out-of-world inflation. But we're still sticking to only IMF in the case of Turkey? Maybe you're less interested there for some reason. <span style="color:#008B8B;font-family:Ferrareo;font-weight:bold;">Swoonfed</span> <span style="color:#000000;font-family:Ferrareo;font-weight:bold;">(Ping)</span> ↗ 14:25, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

Canvassing discussions
Hi! I just closed the merger discussion on cross dressing ↗. I noticed that there were some discussions and concerns about canvassing related to you asking student editors for their input. IMO this is a bit of a grey area because while you are being public about pinging them and you mentioned in your comment responding to the canvassing tag that you didn't know what they were going to say, its not clear that the notifications were appropriate per WP:APPNOTE ↗, but I also don't think it falls squarely in WP:INAPPNOTE ↗. I can't discern from that discussion, your user/talk page or the pages of people tagged in the comments about canvassing what your connection to the wiki education program is and how you knew that students were working in this area. I can imagine that for editors involved in the discussion who don't know about the connections to education programs this might come across as some kind of off wiki communication and thus be inappropriate (especially before you mentioned the ed programs). I'm not saying that I think you meant to POV push by pinging the students, I'm just asking you to reflect on how those pings could be perceived as canvassing by other editors. ScrubbedFalcon (talk) 11:00, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
:@ScrubbedFalcon I don’t have any connection to Wiki Education. I knew about the students because they notified us with Talk:Cross-dressing#Wiki Education assignment: U.S. Queer Women's History ↗ Chidgk1 (talk) 11:04, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
::Ahh of course! I completely missed that on the bottom of the talk page by just focusing on the discussion. That makes more sense. I'll strike through the canvassing part of the close summary. ScrubbedFalcon (talk) 11:11, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
:Also wanted to add that I think its great that you're engaging with the students. I'm curious how you got involved in those programs. ScrubbedFalcon (talk) 11:04, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

The 2026 Core Contest has begun!
The Core Contest ↗ has begun! You have until May 31 (23:59 UTC) to make eligible changes. Although you are most welcome (and encouraged) to continue working on the article, changes after May 31 will not be considered for rankings or prizes.
We are now about a week in, and it's worth sharing some issues we judges have noticed in the past:
- '''Understandability ↗''' is extra important for big topics like these. Avoid jargon ↗ when possible; give context (and of course, citations), even for things that seem obvious ↗; and always consider the age-old adage from {{noping|Iridescent}}: ''"would a bright 14-year old with no prior knowledge of the topic understand this?"''
- '''The source, the whole source, and nothing but the source.''' Instead of asking "what do I want to say in this article", ask yourself: "what do most high-quality, reliable and recent sources say about this topic?"
- Take a '''global perspective ↗''' whenever possible. If you're writing about someone from France, consider looking at recent, high-quality sources in French. Amid language barriers, consider the careful use of an online translation tool or <small>*shudder*</small> a language dictionary.
- '''Plan, plan, plan!''' Make an outline, a draft TOC, or some kind of gameplan. Big articles are a different beast, and it's worth figuring out structural and logistical aspects early on.

Excerpting sections
Just to elaborate on my edit summary ↗ on Environmental impact of wind power ↗, excerpting sections has the one downside that citations now need a bit more care, because MediaWiki makes it complicated to properly manage a citation that's in common through multiple pages.
Fortunately in this case, there wasn't the annoying "citation defined in one page that another page depends on" type issue, or "citation conflict where the name is the same as a citation defined in a transcluded section" issue.
But basically: it's an understandable oversight. --<span style="color:red">Retro</span> (<span style="color:green">talk</span> | <span style="color:blue">contribs</span> ↗) 18:29, 22 May 2026 (UTC)

The 2026 Core Contest Winners!
The winners of the 2026 Core Contest ↗ are announced 🎉. A ''huge'' turnout that resulted in one of our trickiest deliberation sessions. The judges ({{noping|Aza24}}, {{noping|Femke}} and {{noping|Casliber}}) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners!
- First place (and a prize of £120) goes to {{user|Vigilantcosmicpenguin}} for his dual efforts on Flatbread ↗ and Tortilla ↗! One, formerly an unsourced list-like article, and the other, once a poorly sourced and spotty overview, both now number 250+ citations from an impressively academic source pool. We particularly commend the efforts to globalize content, treat the topics comprehensively and thoughtfully select illustrations. Both articles (one now a GA ↗) are of a uniquely high quality amid the often underserved food topics on Wikipedia. Bravo!
- Second place (and a prize of £100) goes to {{user|Phlsph7}}, a Core Contest regular who has once again shown a mastery of big topics, with his dual efforts on Agnosticism ↗ and Premise ↗—both now GA ↗s (one, with a review by our first place winner!). With immensely thorough sourcing improvements, alongside carefully nuanced text on these often misunderstood topics, both articles are a pleasure to read.
- Third place (and a prize of £80) goes to {{user|MCE89}}, whose improvements to the Heard Island and McDonald Islands ↗ article have led to a triumphant FA ↗ declaration. The incredible balance of detail between human, geographical and flora-fauna elements is a great achievement, and sets a high standard for future island articles.
