LCPS Policy 8655 ↗

I'm not sure why a cheap redirect would be offensive. Just wondering. Bearian (talk) 12:54, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
:I am not sure what you mean by "offensive". I opted to PROD instead of unilaterally BLAR, because while I do not think the deletion is controversial, I am open to it being contested. My other issue is that even if redirects are cheap, I find a redirect with this name very, very unlikely to be useful. <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 13:55, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
::Ok. I'm aware of some deletionists who loath redirects. I'll leave it be. Bearian (talk) 14:35, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
:::I am not sure if it is directed at me or not, but in the case it is, could you please assume that if I decided to do something in a given way instead of another, it is not out of loathing or ideology? If that is not directed at me then I apologize for the defensiveness, but it is quite difficult to discern if your words are meant as a general observation, or as an implication of intent here. <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 14:49, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
::::No, just general experience. Bearian (talk) 15:03, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Wasserman35 (14:18, 14 June 2026)

How do make a wiki article ? --Wasserman35 (talk) 14:18, 14 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hello @Wasserman35, in general step 0 of the process is determining if you ''should'' make an article about what you are thinking about. The process is well described at Help:Your first article ↗, but if you tell me what you have in mind I can also give you an idea of the way to go. <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 09:27, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from Ishani Nangia (06:27, 23 June 2026)

Hey Choucas! I want to edit economics-related articles and that is my area of interest as well, but it is not one of the categories listed in wikipedia options, how do I go about it? Thank you! --Ishani Nangia (talk) 06:27, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hey there @Ishani Nangia, and wecome :) I am not sure what you mean by {{tq|listed in wikipedia options}}, but in general editing works the same way for all articles more or less. What matters more than the topic itself is what you are trying to do in the area, and how you go about it. Is your main interest working on Draft:Shekhar Aiyar ↗? <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 12:59, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
::Hi Choucas! Thank you for such a prompt response as well. And yes that is my main interest, however the draft got rejected for not having enough information so I will probably take another jab at it. In the meantime if you have any suggestions or tips for me, please let me know. &#126;2026-36449-20 ↗ (talk) 03:54, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Hello, first a small tip: remember to log in :) while Wikipedia will let you publish edits logged out, when you already have an active account it is good practice to only do so logged in. Now, regarding your draft, there are two important things I think that you need to be aware of. The first one is our guideline about the notability of people ↗, which is basically a guide into determining if a specific person should have their own Wikipedia article. After looking for a bit, I am not convinced the subject of your draft meets the criteria, so it is unlikely your draft will be accepted. The second important thing here, I think, are our rules around conflict of interest ↗. Of specific interest for you would be the part about paid editing ↗, because it appears you are trying to create this page because it is part of your professional responsibilities. While it is not strictly forbidden, it is still very much frowned upon, so I strongly encourage you to follow the appropriate processes closely. <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 14:00, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Hi Choucas! Thanks for the tip, I am still getting the hang of things. I have been through the guidelines for notability and my subject does meet the criteria as well, it unfortunately couldn't come across well enough in my first draft. Regarding the conflict of interest, this is not a paid gig for me. The subject was a professor of mine that I really admired and the idea was to get more visibility for his work. However, I completely understand, that this could still come under the conflict of interest policy, but I am curious is there a right way to go about it? Is it possible for me to request another editor to edit and publish my draft to ensure it isn't biased? Ishani Nangia (talk) 05:14, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Hi, regarding the first point: when notability is uncertain, it generally is evaluated by consensus, so while neither me nor you can make a definitive call in advance there, I just wanted to warn you, in case the draft gets rejected, or accepted and then a deletion discussion is started soon after. Regarding the COI, even if you have not been asked explicitly to write this page, the subject of your draft is still the director of the institution where you are employed full-time in a communications and outreach position, which is a clear paid editing situation. The way you have phrased your last comment does not give me confidence that you are being transparent here. In any case, you should not publish your draft yourself; and following COI guidelines, if/once published you should only suggest modifications through edit requests. The draft process is the correct way to go about creating the article in a COI situation. <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 09:48, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Hi Choucas. After reviewing your request, I have <span class="plainlinks">enabled ↗</span> '''rollback ↗''' on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

Temporary account IP viewer granted

right|80px|alt=The temporary account IP viewer logo, composed of the Wikipedia globe with a user and an IP address ↗
Hello, Choucas. Per your request, your account has been <span class="plainlinks">granted ↗</span> {{mono|temporary-account-viewer}} rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts ↗ that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is <strong>only</strong> to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer ↗ for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences ↗. Question from BoredEktachrome (19:29, 24 June 2026)

:''Note: BoredEktachrome's mentor The9Man is away.''
Hi! For a "normal" article (pretty much the ones not portraying a living person), at what point is a citation required? For instance, for a technical standard, if it has a certain frequency tolerance outside which it breaks down, would i need to cite or i can get away with a ""trust me bro""?
Also, how good is working on rephraseing already written content? I'm not very confident on my researching skills yet for "major works". 73s and thanks from BoredEktachrome (talk) 19:29, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hey there @BoredEktachrome, our general policy about what needs referencing and how to go about it is the verifiability policy ↗. You will find a lot of information on that page, and a lot of links to more specific aspects of how verifiability is approached on Wikipedia. Though we are stricter about biographies of living persons ↗ as your mention, in general the rule is the same for everything: '''statements that may be challenged require inline citations to reliable sources'''. you will get a better idea of what each part of this sentence means, but that's the core idea.<br> Regarding your second question, it touches on what we call close paragraphing ↗, and the associated copyright concerns. You will find all you need to know about it on this page normally. If you have further or more specific questions, feel free to come back :) <span style="font-family: ui-serif">'''Choucas''' &#128038;&#8205;&#11035;</span> 20:34, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
