New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},
thumb|right|120px ↗
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter ↗ finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of ''The Signpost'' ↗. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

'''Awards''': Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to {{Noping|MPGuy2824}}), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to {{no ping|John B123}} for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page ↗. Check out the new Hall of Fame ↗ also.

'''Software news''': {{Noping|Novem Linguae}} and {{Noping|MPGuy2824}} have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here ↗. The reviewer report ↗ has also been improved.
thumb|450px|right|NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022 ↗
'''Suggestions''':

'''Backlog''':80px|left ↗ Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive ↗ to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

;Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to {{noping|WaddlesJP13}} who led with 2084 points. See this page ↗ for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
;2022 Awards
74px|left ↗
{{no ping|Onel5969}} won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. {{no ping|Rosguill}} led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page ↗ and the Hall of Fame ↗. Congratulations everyone!

'''Minimum deletion time''': The previous WP:NPP ↗ guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR ↗). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed ↗ are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

'''New draftify script''': In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page ↗. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js ↗ or vector.js file from <code>User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js</code> to <code>User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js</code>'''

'''Redirects''': Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide ↗, this checklist ↗, and spend some time at WP:RFD ↗.

'''Discussions with the WMF''' The PageTriage open letter ↗ signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches ↗ in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as {{noping|Novem Linguae}} and {{noping|MPGuy2824}} have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference ↗ with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

|- style="font-size: 86%;"

thumb|400px|New Page Review queue April to June 2023 ↗
'''Backlog'''

'''Redirect drive''': In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with '''23851''' reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to '''0''' (momentarily). Congratulations to {{Noping|Hey man im josh}} who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by {{noping|Meena}} and {{noping|Greyzxq}} with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page ↗ for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

'''Redirect autopatrol''': All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here ↗.

'''WMF work on PageTriage''': The WMF Moderator Tools team ↗, consisting of {{noping|Samwalton9 (WMF)|label1=Sam|JSherman (WMF)|label2=Jason|SCardenas (WMF)|label3=Susana}}, and also some patches from {{noping|Jon (WMF)|label1=Jon}}, has been hard at work updating PageTriage ↗. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test ↗ where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed ↗, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR ↗ when we are ready for beta testers.

'''Articles for Creation (AFC)''': All new page reviewers are now '''automatically approved''' for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP ↗ like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script ↗, visit Special:Preferences ↗, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed ↗, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR ↗. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional ↗, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

'''Pro tip''': Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG ↗? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST ↗ 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

WikiCup 2025 September newsletter

The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:

Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table ↗ shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists ↗, 98 good articles, 9 good topic ↗ articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.

In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges – {{User|Cwmhiraeth}}, {{User|Epicgenius}}, {{User|Frostly}}, {{User|Guerillero}} and {{User|Lee Vilenski}} – are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!

Question from RENN28 (18:36, 27 September 2025)

Hello I'm new how to I make an edit to a page? --RENN28 (talk) 18:36, 27 September 2025 (UTC)

:Welcome to Wikipedia!
:It's great to have you here. To make an edit, just click the Edit tab at the top of the article (or "Edit source" for the wikitext view, or the small "Edit" link beside a section). After making your changes, write a short edit summary, then click Publish changes.
:If you're unsure, try editing your own sandbox page first, it's a safe place to practice. And don't hesitate to ask questions at the Teahouse ↗, a friendly space for new editors.
:Also check out this tutorial: Introduction to editing with Wiki Markup ↗ - it explains formatting, references, tables, links, and more.
:Happy editing! - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 18:48, 27 September 2025 (UTC)

Consultation about medals table

Hi The9man. I see you're my mentor. I’ll try not to be annoying or difficult, but as a long-time sports journalist, I have a question that specifically concerns volleyball. Hello Dddenilson! I noticed that you enjoy volleyball and volleyball-related content, and I have a suggestion that I believe should be corrected. I wouldn’t want to make the change myself in order to avoid causing any issues, especially since I see that the page is currently locked for editing. Specifically, in the World Championship medal table, the medals of Russia are listed separately from those of the USSR, and Serbia's are listed separately from Yugoslavia’s, even though both the FIVB and CEV—as well as other sports organizations—recognize Russia as the successor of the USSR's results and medals ↗, just as Serbia is considered the successor of Yugoslavia's results ↗.I have additional sources from official websites if you need them to verify this information ↗, CEV ↗, Official site of Russian volleyball federation ↗, etc.
I also wrote to some other users (D.18, Jonas Kan, Denilson) and shared the same information with them as I did with you, but none of them responded. On the contrary, D.18 even deleted the message from the talk page without any explanation. Could you help me or suggest what I should do? I don’t want to make the correction myself and risk getting blocked from editing. Thank you in advance, and sorry for bothering you. Sportopedia (talk) 16:56, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Sportopedia, Thank you for raising this concern. On Wikipedia, edits to medal tables must be based on reliable sources and handled through consensus. If the FIVB and CEV explicitly recognize Russia as the successor to the USSR and Serbia as the successor to Yugoslavia, then that evidence may support a change.
:Because this involves a protected page and a significant content question, the proper venue is the article's talk page. Discussion there allows editors to evaluate the sources and establish consensus before any changes are made. This follows core policies such as WP:V ↗, WP:CONSENSUS ↗, and WP:OR ↗.
:You don't need to worry about getting blocked for raising this, by presenting the official sources on the talk page, you ensure the matter can be considered transparently and in line with Wikipedia's editorial standards. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 10:07, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
::Thank you very much for the warm welcome and the quick response. I saw on the talk page for the FIVB World Championship, as well as for the CEV European Championship, that some people previously posted comments and links, but no one replied or changed the medal table. Does it make sense for me to write there too? Sportopedia (talk) 11:03, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Mjnallen5555 (16:09, 9 October 2025)

Hello! I was wondering if, when doing copyediting, I should change a sentence to flow slightly better when it is already fully correct. Thank you!

--mjnallen5555 --Mjnallen5555 (talk) 16:09, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

:You can rephrase for clarity or flow only if it doesn't change the meaning or introduce your personal style. Wikipedia copyediting should improve readability, but not rewrite for preference.
:If a sentence is already correct and clear, leave it as it is. Edits should fix issues such as grammar errors, awkward phrasing, or ambiguity not just make it sound "nicer."
:A good rule: if the change is purely stylistic and not necessary for clarity, don't make it.

Sooo uh hi. So how do I actually make a wiki page just like the ones I Google abt. Yk some biography wiki? --MilesBoxel (talk) 12:23, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @MilesBoxel, welcome to Wikipedia!
:To create an article start your draft in the sandbox. Keep it strictly factual and cite independent, reliable sources. Once it's ready, submit it through Articles for Creation. Avoid any promotional tone and focus only on what can be verified. If you'd like, I can review your draft before you submit it. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 19:28, 28 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Hothead35 (20:48, 22 October 2025)

Hi, is it still editing if the final edited version changes the whole message that was portrayed by the original work? --Hothead35 (talk) 20:48, 22 October 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Hothead35, welcome to Wikipedia!
:No. If your edit changes the meaning or message of the original source, it's not considered editing. Any change that alters the original content must be backed by a more reliable source explicitly supporting that version. Otherwise, it consider as original research and should be removed or reverted. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 19:33, 28 October 2025 (UTC)

:Wikipedia:Reliable sources ↗ - outlines which types of references are acceptable (major news, books, academic publications).
:Wikipedia:Citing sources ↗ - shows how to use <nowiki><ref></ref></nowiki> tags and create a reference list.
:Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies ↗ - guidance on neutrality, tone, and formatting for biographies.
:Wikipedia:Your first article ↗ - step-by-step guide for new editors.

Question from Lucevium (01:03, 18 November 2025)

Hello, The9Man! I want to ask about adding citations and information to the articles. Is the most efficient strategy (the most improvement with the least effort) to spend more time with a few articles or to cast a wide net? Is there a most efficient way to improve article content? --Lucevium (talk) 01:03, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

:Hello! I'm not The9Man, but wanted to give my two cents. With Wikipedia, there is no "most efficient strategy." I personally find it most helpful to spend more time focusing on improving and adding to one or a few articles, but making a wide array of smaller edits is just as valuable. However, if you're looking to improve your own editing skills, I recommend casting a wide net. Making smaller edits to several articles keeps you away from the task of perfecting just one, which can be stressful for new people. To Wikipedians, it doesn't matter how many articles you contribute on, or even what you contribute on. Anything that helps the encyclopedia is a big help!

Question from DaOrangeMan (23:29, 25 November 2025)

You have probably heard this before, but I don't know what I am doing.
I have a couple of degrees, love research and am always writing my own notes and findings from the research I read.
My idea is to edit the pages I am most actively researching.
Any tips on where to get started without getting in other peoples way?

Ecological Psychology is the field I actively research. --DaOrangeMan (talk) 23:29, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @DaOrangeMan Welcome to Wikipedia!
:It's completely fine to feel unsure early on. The best way to begin is to move slowly and stay close to the sources. Start with modest improvements and read the article's talk page before making any meaningful change. That helps you understand what has already been discussed and which sections need careful handling. If you want to change something larger, make sure to back it up with sources.
:Everything you add must be supported by a strong secondary source ↗. Your own notes and interpretations can guide your search for references, but they can't be included in the article. If a point hasn't appeared in a published secondary source, it can't be added. Following the published material exactly is the surest way to avoid original research.
:To get more comfortable, you can walk through a few core pages:
:Editing basics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing
:Manual of Style: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style
:Verifiability: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability
:No original research: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:No_original_research
:Your background in Ecological Psychology helps, because you already know which journals and review articles count as reliable secondary material. Once you work within those boundaries, you'll find you can contribute cleanly and confidently without interrupting the work of others. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 10:23, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
::This is great. Thank you.
::I read through those articles last night so will start making a couple of edits and build from there.
::Some pages seem very inactive, so I might be the only editor so will proceed with caution. DaOrangeMan (talk) 10:29, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found '''here ↗'''. If you have not yet signed up, you can '''add your name here ↗''', and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page ↗.

For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points ↗ at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: {{User4|Cwmhiraeth}}, {{User4|Epicgenius}}, {{User4|Frostly}}, {{User4|Guerillero}} and {{User4|Lee Vilenski}}. Question from Viswa1993ave (19:00, 9 January 2026)

:''Note: Viswa1993ave's mentor Zippybonzo is away.''
Hello,
I’ve worked on multiple web series, and I’m planning to create Wikipedia pages for some of them. During my initial checks, I found independent coverage such as online news articles, OTT platform announcements, and media reports related to these series.
I intend to draft the pages using only these third-party sources and follow Wikipedia’s guidelines. Before proceeding, I wanted to check with you: is there any risk of blocks or account issues if I create these pages myself, given that I have been professionally involved in the projects?
I’d really appreciate your guidance on the safest and most appropriate way to approach this.

Thank you. --Viswa1993ave (talk) 19:00, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

:@Viswa1993ave There is no additional risk in creating the pages yourself just because you were professionally involved in the projects. However, since there is a conflict of interest (COI), you need to follow the proper process as per Wikipedia guidelines.
:- Create drafts in your Sandbox / Draft namespace using only independent, reliable third-party sources.
:- Disclose your COI clearly on your user page and/or in edit summaries.
:- Submit via Articles for Creation (AfC) instead of publishing directly. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 07:02, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
::Thanks for your support @The9Man
::I submitted a draft article about a 2024 Indian Hindi-language web series released on Hungama OTT. The series is a professionally produced OTT original. I understand that this creates a potential conflict of interest, so I made every effort to comply with Wikipedia policies by:
::* Writing the article in a '''neutral, encyclopedic tone'''
::* '''Avoiding glorification or promotional language'''
::* Supporting the article with '''multiple independent reliable sources''', including:
::** Bollywood Hungama
::** Indian Broadcasting World
::** MediaNews4U
::** OTTplay
::** City Air News
::* Using proper inline citations and verifiable references
::* Submitting the article through '''Articles for Creation''' rather than publishing directly
::Despite this, the draft was declined with the reason that it is ''“not adequately supported by reliable sources.”'' I am unsure how to proceed further, as I believe I have already included the maximum available independent coverage for this subject and followed the relevant guidelines to the best of my understanding.
::I would appreciate help on the following points:
::* Whether the sources I used are considered insufficient for notability, and if so, why
::* Whether the issue is with '''how''' the sources are used rather than '''which''' sources are used
::* What specific improvements are required for the draft to meet Wikipedia’s sourcing standards
::I am fully willing to revise the article in line with community guidance and policies. Any direction on how to improve the draft constructively would be greatly appreciated.
::Thank you for your time and assistance. Viswa1993ave (talk) 11:28, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Will.o.Wisp2 (17:11, 26 January 2026)

Hi! I'm new to this. After starting to get my feet with some copyediting, I'm seeing that a lot of the issues have to do with tone. Specifically, articles flagged with the message "This article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information" are abundant. I find it challenging to approach these. I'm particularly anxious to remove information, though sometimes that is what's necessary to change the tone. What advice would you give a new editor for building confidence in rewording and rewriting these articles with a more encyclopedic voice? --Will.o.Wisp2 (talk) 17:11, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

:Totally normal to feel that way at first, promotional tone cleanup is one of the hardest beginner skills.
:A good rule is: don’t think 'remove info,' think 'remove opinions: cut hype words ("leading," "renowned") and replace with specific, sourced details (dates, roles, awards).
:Start small, rewrite one sentence at a time, and if it can't be made neutral with a reliable source ↗, remove it. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 19:13, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Ieclen on Talk:International Search and Rescue Advisory Group ↗ (22:45, 28 January 2026)

:''Note: Ieclen's mentor LindsayH is away.''
Hello! I have encountered an "easy" copyedit request for this article in which a corporate representative has requested edits to be made. Through my best judgment, it feels fishy to complete these edits. However, the existing text does seem to misalign with Wikipedia objectivity. I am very new to editing, and I am not the brightest when it comes to encyclopedic/objective writing. Trying to help in any way I can! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:International_Search_and_Rescue_Advisory_Group --Ieclen (talk) 22:46, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

:Trust your instinct and leave this one for a more experienced editor.
:Even if the current wording isn't ideal, requests coming from someone affiliated with an organization around the topic are often conflict-of-interest–adjacent and attract extra scrutiny. As a new editor, stepping into those situations can easily lead to reverts or misunderstandings, even if your intentions are good.
:The best move here is to flag the concern on the talk page and let a more experienced, uninvolved editor handle any neutrality fixes. That protects you, avoids COI issues, and keeps the process clean.
:There's no downside to skipping edits like this early on - knowing when not to edit is an important Wikipedia skill. :) - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 18:39, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Honey123478 on User talk:Honey123478 (19:52, 30 January 2026)

im corecting a psge put up for me vagically the editors are loosley refraing from real life details i dint lie about anything --Honey123478 (talk) 19:52, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Honey123478, I suggest you to list the exact edits you're proposing on the article's Talk page. Be specific about what needs to change and why. And every single change must be backed by reliable, independent third-party sources. That's the foundation of how Wikipedia works. For example, the birthdate currently in the article is supported by multiple citations. Trying to change that without stronger, published sources won't hold. Wikipedia runs on verifiability, not personal claims. Even if the person themselves has stated something, that still counts as original research unless they’re covered by reliable secondary sources. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 17:23, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Tinacrocco on Help:Getting started ↗ (01:36, 2 February 2026)

Hello I was just wondering how come my original page disappeared and my accomplishments gone?

I was the one that got to pick non profits to sponsor and register with my license.

I changed it a few years later for Elon he needed more money and my mom said he wasn’t doing it wrong.

So I asked him what he needed it was software so I changed my license so students at GitHub could save money on tuition and help with programming, this helped Tesla and Students.

I had to do a copyright as well.

Anyways I don’t know how to fix any of this without my computer it has my information and accounts on.
I inherited a title and digital rights (telecommunications) my married name was Tina Irene Campbell. My madian name is Tina Irene Crocco.

Welcome to Phase 2 of the January–February 2026 NPP drive ↗. During Phase 1, we reviewed 16,658 articles and 4,416 redirects, and there is currently a backlog of 16,475 articles and 23,782 redirects in the queue. Fantastic job! Completing 22,502 patrols in the first phase made a significant dent in the backlog. Let's keep our foot on the gas for Phase 2, and I hope we can achieve even more reviews than Phase 1. Question from Entidalumen (16:59, 23 February 2026)

Hi! How are you??
👋
Thanks a lot for your time! and for being my mentor, I really appreciate it. Really.
I’ve been doing quite a few edits lately, mostly copying procedures and style from other articles to try to follow the usual format and standards. I’ve been trying to learn by example.

But I’m not totally sure if I handled things correctly when it comes to the “keep” processes in article deletion discussions.. I have some doubts abou whether I intervened in the right way there.
Whenever you have a moment, I’d really value your opinion 🙂 --Entidalumen (talk) 16:59, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Entidalumen Welcome to Wikipedia!
:You're doing the right thing by learning from existing articles.
:About deletion discussions AfD/keep processes, the most important thing is that arguments should be based on policy and sources, not personal opinion. If you focused on notability, reliable sources, and guidelines, then you are on the right track.
:If you want, share the discussion link with me. I can give you more specific feedback. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 12:37, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
::Thank you so much for your time and for taking the extra step to write such a personal message!!! I'm really really grateful. I also really appreciate the advice; I’ll keep that very much in mind going forward :)
::And thanks a lot for the generous offer, I’ll definitely take you up on that when I have a concrete case to ask about.
::Best regards, Entidalumen (talk) 03:25, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 March newsletter

The first round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 26 February. As some of you may have noticed, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP ↗. This point increase has been retroactively applied to all good article reviews for which competitors have claimed points in this round. Peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 1 will advance to round 2 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 1 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points, and the top 16 contestants all scored more than 300 round points. The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 1 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 7 featured articles, 16 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 168 good articles, 13 good-topic articles and more than 50 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 14 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted nearly 700 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ will be updated within the next few days.

Remember that any content promoted after 26 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Question from Skin-game (19:09, 3 March 2026)

Hey in the article for ancient astronauts it calls the theory racist but I’m an ancient astronaut theorist and i don’t think that people couldn’t build the pyramids because they were African i think that because they didn’t have the technological capabilities to do so is that bias in the article and should i fix it? --Skin-game (talk) 19:09, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

:The article is summarizing criticism that appears in reliable sources about the ancient astronaut hypothesis, and Wikipedia content is based on what reliable sources say rather than on individual beliefs about the topic.
:If you have specific concerns about the wording or how that criticism is presented, the best step would be to raise them on the article's talk page. You can explain which part you think is inaccurate or biased and, if possible, suggest alternative wording supported by reliable sources. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 16:45, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

There is an error in the article about Prince Joseph Ferdinand of Bavaria. His cause of death is incorrect; an article published by the University of Toronto Press journal Canadian Bulletin of Medical History in 1990 correctly identifies the cause of death as typhoid fever. How do I correct this? --Lemason (talk) 12:48, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

:If you have a reliable source confirming the correct cause of death, the best approach is simply to update the article with that source.
:Edit the sentence that mentions his death, replace the incorrect cause and add the reference as an inline citation. In the edit summary, explain that the cause of death was corrected based on the source.
:If you prefer not to edit directly, you can post the source and suggested correction on the article’s Talk page so any other editor can do the edit.. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 13:23, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Vig Rakesh (08:59, 16 March 2026)

how to create a page --Vig Rakesh (talk) 08:59, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Vig Rakesh Welcome to Wikipedia!
:Before you create an article in Wikipedia, make sure the subject meets notability ↗ with good independent sources.
:If it does, create the article as a draft in your sandbox ↗ or through Articles for Creation ↗, write it in a neutral tone, and add reliable references. Once it’s ready, submit the draft for review. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 13:01, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi --Miqdad pk (talk) 11:44, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from LastCheerio (20:44, 18 March 2026)

Hello! I've used wiki for years and have occasionally seen what i think of as omissions from an article. What prompted me to create an account today are omissions from the article on Generating Functions. More specifically, I would like to make suggestions for the section on multivariate generating functions. To get started, let me be _very_ specific: I believe it would be good to include the generating function form of Bayes Theorem. How -- and to whom -- do i communicate this suggestion?

Thank you, btw, for your help. --LastCheerio (talk) 20:44, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

:Hi, you don’t need to find the right person, Wikipedia doesn’t work like that. Everything happens transparently on the article itself. Please post your suggestion on the article’s Talk page with reliable sources supporting the edit. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 12:05, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from MarkofMelbourne (00:26, 20 March 2026)

Hi, I'm researching a political position in Australia, and it touched on Chris Sidoti. Using Chris Sidoti's Wikipedia entry as a reference, I contacted Australian Catholic University (ACU), where the entry says he's a faculty member. I received correspondence from the university stating that it's a legacy issue on their website and that he's not associated with ACU. I then checked the faculty lists at all the other Australian universities and affiliated institutes, and he's no longer associated with any of them. When I tried to correct the page, my edit was rejected. Thanks for your time. Please suggest how I proceed. Thank you, Mark --MarkofMelbourne (talk) 00:26, 20 March 2026 (UTC)

:I suggest you post your suggestion on the article’s Talk page, supported by reliable sources. Please note that original research ↗ is not a valid basis for the update. - <span>''<span style="color:green;">The9Man</span>''</span> <span><span>''Talk''</span></span> 12:16, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
::Hi, Thanks for helping. I have a confidential email from ACU saying that Sidoti isn't associated with them and none of the other academic institutions have him on their faculty list. How do I use that resource to update a page? Thanks MarkofMelbourne (talk) 01:53, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

WikiCup 2026 May newsletter

The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP ↗. Peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 2 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗.</small> MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:49, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},

thumb|400px|New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026 ↗

'''Backlog update'''

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

'''2024 and 2025 NPP Awards'''

74px|left ↗{{no ping|JTtheOG}} was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
{{no ping|Hey man im josh}} and {{no ping|MPGuy2824}} won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

{{no ping|BoyTheKingCanDance}}, {{no ping|Rosiestep}}, {{no ping|SunDawn}}, and {{no ping|Vanderwaalforces}} were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame ↗ for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

'''January–February backlog drive'''

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to {{no ping|JTtheOG}}, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

'''May backlog drive'''

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026 ↗.

'''PageTriage'''

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed ↗ to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket ↗ if you're interested in following along.

WikiCup 2026 July newsletter

The third round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 June at 23:59 (UTC). As a reminder, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, while peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 3 will advance to round 4 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.

Round 3 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; eight scored over 500; and thirteen scored over 300. The top three contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 7 featured-topic articles, 117 good articles, 74 good-topic articles and more than 30 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 13 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted nearly 180 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.

Remember that any content promoted after 28 June but before the start of Round 4 can be claimed in Round 4. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! <small>If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send ↗.</small> MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:49, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
