The 2025 Core Contest Winners!
The winners of the 2025 Core Contest β are announced π. An great turnout with a impressive variety of articles and laudable improvements. The judges ({{noping|Aza24}}, {{noping|Femke}} and {{noping|Casliber}})Β would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.
- First place (and a prize of Β£120) goes to {{user|Phlsph7}} for his systemic overhaul of the Political Philosophy β article. What was once an unwieldy entryβdominated by a sprawling history section of nearly three dozen subsections!βis now an accessible and well-structured survey of a complex and often polarizing subject. We particularly commend Phlsph7βs global, inclusive, and comprehensive approach. He has once again demonstrated exceptional skill in handling core topics with clarity and balance.
- Second place (and a prize of Β£100) goes to {{user|Dracophyllum}} for their outstanding work on both Trunk β and Flower β. The former was reimagined from a ~200 word stub into a richly detailed and impeccably sourced overviewβan effort truly worthy of its dedicatee β, the late and much-missed {{noping|Vami IV}}. Meanwhile, their improvements to the Flower article transformed an already strong entry into an exceptional one, now well on its way to passing FAC β.
- Third place (and a prize of Β£80) goes to {{user|Vigilantcosmicpenguin}} for his major development of the Niamey β article. The entry now proudly stands among the finest city articles on Wikipediaβfrom thirty scattered references to nearly 400 high-quality academic sources. We particularly commend his inclusion of numerous French-language sources and thoughtfully comprehensive approach to the topic.

Welcome to the 2026 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found '''here β'''. If you have not yet signed up, you can '''add your name here β''', and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page β.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points β at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: {{User4|Cwmhiraeth}}, {{User4|Epicgenius}}, {{User4|Frostly}}, {{User4|Guerillero}} and {{User4|Lee Vilenski}}. The Core Contest returns
The Core Contest ββWikipedia's most exciting contestβreturns again this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital β or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is {{GBP|300}} of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". '''Signups are open now β'''. Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24.

The 2026 Core Contest has begun!
The Core Contest β has begun! You have until May 31 (23:59 UTC) to make eligible changes. Although you are most welcome (and encouraged) to continue working on the article, changes after May 31 will not be considered for rankings or prizes.
We are now about a week in, and it's worth sharing some issues we judges have noticed in the past:
- '''Understandability β''' is extra important for big topics like these. Avoid jargon β when possible; give context (and of course, citations), even for things that seem obvious β; and always consider the age-old adage from {{noping|Iridescent}}: ''"would a bright 14-year old with no prior knowledge of the topic understand this?"''
- '''The source, the whole source, and nothing but the source.''' Instead of asking "what do I want to say in this article", ask yourself: "what do most high-quality, reliable and recent sources say about this topic?"
- Take a '''global perspective β''' whenever possible. If you're writing about someone from France, consider looking at recent, high-quality sources in French. Amid language barriers, consider the careful use of an online translation tool or <small>*shudder*</small> a language dictionary.
- '''Plan, plan, plan!''' Make an outline, a draft TOC, or some kind of gameplan. Big articles are a different beast, and it's worth figuring out structural and logistical aspects early on.
Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24. β '''<span style="font-family:Lucida;"><span style="color:darkred">Aza24</span><span style="color:#848484"> (talk)</span></span>''' 00:08, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

The 2026 Core Contest Winners!
The winners of the 2026 Core Contest β are announced π. A ''huge'' turnout that resulted in one of our trickiest deliberation sessions. The judges ({{noping|Aza24}}, {{noping|Femke}} and {{noping|Casliber}})Β would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners!
- First place (and a prize of Β£120) goes to {{user|Vigilantcosmicpenguin}} for his dual efforts on Flatbread β and Tortilla β! One, formerly an unsourced list-like article, and the other, once a poorly sourced and spotty overview, both now number 250+ citations from an impressively academic source pool. We particularly commend the efforts to globalize content, treat the topics comprehensively and thoughtfully select illustrations. Both articles (one now a GA β) are of a uniquely high quality amid the often underserved food topics on Wikipedia. Bravo!
- Second place (and a prize of Β£100) goes to {{user|Phlsph7}}, a Core Contest regular who has once again shown a mastery of big topics, with his dual efforts on Agnosticism β and Premise ββboth now GA βs (one, with a review by our first place winner!). With immensely thorough sourcing improvements, alongside carefully nuanced text on these often misunderstood topics, both articles are a pleasure to read.
- Third place (and a prize of Β£80) goes to {{user|MCE89}}, whose improvements to the Heard Island and McDonald Islands β article have led to a triumphant FA β declaration. The incredible balance of detail between human, geographical and flora-fauna elements is a great achievement, and sets a high standard for future island articles.
