Edit comment specificity

Hello, could you be more specific about what you are fixing and not just say "fixes"? That's functionally identical to not leaving an edit comment at all; it's too vague. grapesurgeon (talk) 01:07, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

:Hello. I changed the result to match Template:Infobox military conflict ↗ guidelines, created units parameter and fixed formatting. <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Fróis</span> (talk) 06:05, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
::I was speaking a bit generally; please be more specific about edit comments, they are helpful for other editors grapesurgeon (talk) 06:43, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
::Also why did you say I didn't explain my reversion when I did?? Strange and inappropriate. grapesurgeon (talk) 06:46, 13 April 2026 (UTC)

Date formatting

Hello Fróis, please do not change date formats that have already been established in articles, per WP:DATERET ↗ and the general principle of Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Retaining existing styles ↗. I see at least 10 instances of this sort of edit in the last week or so. For example, this edit ↗ at Kachō Hironobu ↗ changed the format of the subject's date of birth and date of death, but this created inconsistency between the article text and the infobox based on the default format of :Template:Birth date ↗. I recognize that there are cases in which this sort of change can make articles more consistent, but so far it appears that is not the cause of your edits. Is there some other reason you are making these changes? Best, Dekimasu<small>よ!</small> 00:22, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

:Hi @Dekimasu, thank you for the note. I was applying DMY (as noted here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Masatane_Kanda&diff=prev&oldid=1348384586 ↗), but I apologize for the oversight. <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Fróis</span> (talk) 08:59, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

25px|alt=Information icon ↗ Thank you for your contributions ↗ to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to :Tatsumi Naofumi ↗ when you modified the page, you introduced {{cl|Unknown parameters|unknown parameters}}. Just because you specify {{para|some_param|{{var|some_variable}}}} does not always mean that variable will display. The {{para|some_param}} must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview ↗ button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a '''Show preview''' button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history ↗ of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk ↗ for assistance.

Prazos

Hi, I don't know if you're interested, but there's a lot of coverage missing on Portuguese prazos in Zambezia. The Da Cruz and Pereiras prazos appear to meet WP:GNG ↗, and there could be an article on the Portuguese conquest of the prazos in the late-19th century (there's overlap with Chikunda ↗). There's :de:Massangano (Wehranlage) ↗ and :pt:Reino de Macanga ↗, https://www-jstor-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/stable/180055?seq=5 ↗ looks useful Kowal2701 (talk, contribs ↗) 20:28, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

:I'll definitely look into it, thank you! <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Fróis</span> (talk) 20:36, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
::Thanks, I'd be happy to help find sources (though I'm sure the best ones are in Portuguese) Kowal2701 (talk, contribs ↗) 20:38, 1 May 2026 (UTC)

Pepper Wars

Hi Frois.

I draftified one of your new articles (Draft:Pepper Wars ↗ a few months ago, and an admin contacted me to check why I had done this. She said she felt it was well-written and researched (which I tend to agree with) and asked me why I had draftified it. When I gave my explanation, she suggested I share it with you so you could maybe improve the sourcing on what could be an interesting article:

{{tq|The only modern source is a masters dissertation which does not count as a reliable source for notability purposes. The source from 1938, The Zamorins of Calicut, does not use the term "pepper wars". A 1938 source is somewhat old to be accepted as reliable, but in any case it does not provide notability for the topic as it does not treat these "Pepper Wars" as a unified topic and therefore does not give WP:SIGCOV. That leaves us with two 19th century sources. I don't believe these sources are recent enough to be accepted as reliable, but in any case Danvers (1894) does not use the term "Pepper Wars" in the text and does not appear to treat the conflicts as a unified topic. Zain al-Dīn and Lopes (1898) does not use the term "guerra de pimenta" and does not seem to treat these wars as a unified topic.}}

{{tq|In short, I felt the sources were very poor and did not support the existence of a series of conflicts known by this name and treated by historians as events which share enough common characteristics to create an article that is not WP:OR. It may be that other sources do exist that do this, and that is why I draftified to allow the creator to add better sources}}

If you have any queries or doubts, or if you disagree with my analysis of the sources and would like to discuss it, please get in touch by pinging me here or posting on the discussion on my talkpage.

Well done on the Battle of Ty-ho Bay addition (:

I also saw your draft on the Pepper Wars. Outstanding. (:

I was wondering for Ty-ho Bay do you know which Chinese participated on the American, British, and Portuguese side? Was it the Qing? (:

Also could you recommend any English books to me on the Portuguese Empire? I eventually want to reach more on it, especially their bases all along Africa and into Asia. (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 14:59, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

:Thank you! I don't think it's explicit on which Chinese participated, but I'm still digging into it.
:For books, I'd definitely recommend authors such as Boxer, Newitt or Danvers. Happy reading! <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Fróis</span> (talk) 16:49, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
::I will look into it thank you. (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 16:54, 29 May 2026 (UTC)
::Thanks again for the recommendation I recently ordered "The Portuguese Seaborne Empire, 1415-1825" and am excited to get my hands on it.
::A few follow up questions if you do not mind. Would you recommend "The Last Crusade: The Epic Voyages of Vasco da Gama" by Nigel Cliff. And do you have any book suggestions on the Portuguese Empire from 1825 to the fall of Macau? I am especially interested in military history, but also the general history.
::Final question do you study other Empires as well? (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 16:26, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
:::I'm unfamiliar with Cliff's book, but since you're interested in military history, I would recommend you ''Portuguese Sea Battles (Volume VIII)'' by Saturnino Monteiro.
:::If you're still wondering about Chinese participation in Ty-ho, perhaps this article will help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1854_expedition_to_Coulan ↗. <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Fróis</span> (talk) 18:16, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Out bloody standing. :D
::::Fascinating. So I actually am one of two people that actively maintain the Lists of wars involving the United States ↗ article. I just added it to the list.
::::If you ever create articles featured the United States military again please let me know, if it is a new conflict I will add it to our lists. Very well done. :D Historyguy1138 (talk) 20:45, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

Saving the Rui Freire de Andrada

Hi Fróis serious question. Do you know how to create sandboxes for yourself? Sandboxes allow you to create as many articles not ready for publication as you want. I can create one for you and show you how to do it. Wikipedia automatically deletes draft articles after a while.

By the way there is also a longer Portugese version of the article. If we get a translator we can use the sources and even the wording for the English version. https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rui_Freire_de_Andrade

Conquest of Ceuta

Hi @Fróis, hope you’re doing well. Just came here to ask if you’d be willing to give your opinion on the current heated debate on the Portuguese conquest of Ceuta ↗ article’s talk page. There is a disruptive user who removed large portions of the article, totally unconstructive. Thank you. Javext (talk) 15:14, 20 June 2026 (UTC)

:Hello @Javext, thanks for the message. I'll keep an eye on the discussion, but I believe most points have been addressed by both sides. I think you and Wareno should go step by step what to keep or change. I see the argument has escalated, so I recommend taking a calmer stance. I understand you have a history of combating vandalism, and that cases like these may seem like bad faith at first glance. <span style="font-family: Helvetica;">Fróis</span> (talk) 16:03, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
