Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Shooting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alexander Walker ↗ ([//dispenser.info.tm/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dablinks.py/Shooting_at_the_2018_Commonwealth_Games check to confirm]&nbsp;|&nbsp;[//dispenser.info.tm/~dispenser/cgi-bin/dab_solver.py/Shooting_at_the_2018_Commonwealth_Games?client=notify fix with Dab solver]). Speedy deletion ↗ nomination of :Michael Moreci ↗

48px|left|alt=|link= ↗
{{Quote box|quote=<p>If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article ↗.</p><p>You may want to consider using the Article Wizard ↗ to help you create articles.</p>|width=20%|align=right}}
A tag has been placed on :Michael Moreci ↗ requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement ↗. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4611286.Michael_Moreci. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of ''information'', but not as a source of ''sentences''. This part is crucial: ''say it in your own words''. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators '''will be blocked from editing ↗'''.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you ''must'' verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials ↗. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission ↗ for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy ↗ for more details, or ask a question here ↗.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may '''contest the nomination''' by visiting the page ↗ and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines ↗. <!-- Template:Db-copyvio-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 17:30, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:British shooting logo-en.jpg

35px|text-top|left|⚠|link= ↗ Thanks for uploading ''':File:British shooting logo-en.jpg ↗'''. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use ↗. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media ↗).

Note that any non-free images not used in any '''articles''' will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion ↗. Thank you.<!-- Template:Di-orphaned fair use-notice --> --B-bot (talk) 17:14, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

National Rifle Association

Please stop adding "of America" to references to the NRA. The article title is National Rifle Association and it is rarely described with the "of America". It may confuse others and certainly does not make any article more readable. Springee (talk) 13:10, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

:{{reply to|Springee}}I am very specifically making clarifying edits to non-US-specific articles, along with a handful of articles where the name is used in the opening sentence, bereft of prior context. The most obvious are in a number of history-based articles where both the NRA(UK) and the NRA(America) are discussed in the same section, such as Wimbledon, London#Rifle shooting ↗. Per MOS:UNDERLINK ↗ I am reaching a halfway house of providing a useful link whilst also not requiring a user to click through to establish ''which'' NRA is under discussion (this is also important where the text is printed, or cited outside of Wikipedia without links - DO NOT assume people can click the link. Content should be unambiguous when printed on a piece of paper).
:''"Articles explaining words of technical terms, jargon or slang expressions or phrases—'''but you could also provide a concise definition instead of or in addition to a link.'''"''
:Use of the generic "NRA" to mean "NRA of America" is an abbreviation from it's proper, legal form, which can be clearer in circumstances where the link is not available.
:The abbreviated use perfectly reasonable in ''many'' cases, but ''not'' all. You will note that I have not changed any links from (for instance) articles on Wayne LaPierre or US politicians, where the context of ''of America'' is reasonably inferred or downright obvious. I have stuck specifically and carefully to non-US-centric articles where context might not be reasonably be inferred without clicking through.
:I would also note that if the "of America" is liable to cause confusion, then the redirect should not exist - but it does, because that is the proper name of the organisation and it is sometimes useful and clearer to use that full name.Hemmers (talk) 13:19, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
::Not all of those were non-US articles and in many cases the intended organization was very clear. When it's something like the NCAA which regulates college athletics in the USA, specifying NRA of America is not only not necessary but might actually confuse people. It's like changing references to Stanford University ↗ to Leland Stanford Junior University ↗ since, well that is the full name. The problem is the overwhelming number of usages of NRA an National Rifle Association refer to the NRA of America. When you use a term that is not the common long form to refer to the well known organization people may not realize this is a reference to the common organization. However using it may actually confuse rather than clarify. Perhaps it would be good to raise this question on a noticeboard so it isn't just the two of us disagreeing. Springee (talk) 13:41, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
:::: {{reply to|Springee}} ''in many cases the intended organization was very clear.''
:::: I (as a non-American) thought there was room for confusion. Hence why I changed them.
::::''It's like changing references to Stanford University to Leland Stanford Junior University since, well that is the full name.''
::::I would gently note that this is not a remotely fair comparison. To my knowledge there is no other university in Stanford with which it might be confused, much less a disambiguation page of all the other Stanford Universities. However, globally there are ''many'' organisations ↗ known entirely or partially as the "National Rifle Association" - which warrant a non-trivial disambiguation page. Furthermore, most exist in the anglosphere. In many cases the abbreviated form is sufficient ''in context'', but not always.
::::The redirect has been there since 2005, clearly I am not alone in thinking that it is sometimes useful to use the full/proper form.
::::I will concede I did drift into the NCAA article, although it is somewhat of a stretch to imagine someone might actually be confused by the full form. Also, the NCAA now includes Canadian institutions as members (albeit only a couple), so there is now potential scope for confusion between US/Canadian bodies.
::::Worth noting that the British NRA is actually legally founded as "National Rifle Association", ''not'' "National Rifle Association of the United Kingdom". The "of the UK" is only ever used online to disambiguate. It is ''somewhat'' tiresome for the rest of the world to have to tippy-toe around US exceptionalism. I accept and respect the consensus on WP:COMMONNAME, even if I disagree (on grounds of WP:GLOBAL ↗). But even with the articles having the wrong names, it is not unreasonable in non-US or more generic articles to be explicit and spare the user clicking through (if they are even able to). This is EN:WP, not US:WP. However, I take your points and shall be more careful going forward not to remind Americans that their NRA is not the only NRA. Hemmers (talk) 14:30, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

National Rifle Association of America

Can you please stop adding “America” to the end of National Rifle Association?
There isn’t a need to specify.
It’s just like if you started adding “of the United States” after “President” in USA-centered articles.

The article :AirOShoot ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗&#32;because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''No evidence found of any notability ↗, no Google News articles at all and hardly any mentions elsewhere.'''</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> Fram (talk) 13:56, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

English Target Shooting Federation

Hello! I was looking over your new article, and wanted to let you know that I had tagged English Target Shooting Federation ↗ for notability (for now). Currently, the article does not have very usable references. Reference #1 only has the title exist as a name in a catalog, which is just a passing mention, and Reference #2 is the org's website. Ideally, it would be nice for the article to have reliable and secondary sources, which could possibly exist based on some of the preliminary searching that I did. In the meantime, I wanted to give you a heads up that it was tagged. <span style="background-color: #FFCFBF; font-variant: small-caps">Utopes ('''talk''' / '''cont ↗''')</span> 03:29, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

right|80px ↗
Hi Hemmers, I just wanted to let you know that I have <span class="plainlinks">added ↗</span> the autopatrolled user right ↗ to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed ↗. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested ↗ on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers ↗.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject ↗ templates, stub tags ↗, categories ↗, and incoming links ↗ to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies ↗, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller ↗ yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! &ndash;&#8239;Joe&nbsp;<small>(talk)</small> 09:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 3

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of acronyms: N ↗, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NRA ↗.

(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 19:54, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Why?

I think it has been nearly 8 years since we worked together on the bullet trap ↗ article, and I have subsequently valued your perspectives on firearms articles biased toward United States's practices. I am curious about your recent attention to the White River Energetics plant and its possible relationship to St. Marks Powder. I might begin by explaining my interest in small arms propellants began attending school in the company town for one of the major gunpowder factories of the American civil war. I began handloading as a teen-ager to provide deer-hunting ammunition for my neighbors and classmates, and studied propellant formulations during my military service. I have spent some time expanding Wikipedia's coverage of small arms propellant manufacturing history in the United States, which led me to create the articles of interest. What brought these articles to your attention? In reviewing your recent Wikipedia edits, I notice some focus on the conservative trend of United States politics, and hope you might inform me if you have found something linking these events to the articles of interest. Thewellman (talk) 05:42, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Thewellman,
:My attention was simply drawn as a new article with very limited sourcing. As I mentioned in the Talk page (which has apparently not been copied when it was moved to User:Thewellman/White River Energetics - I added discussion there), there were only five sources, of which three were to do with St Marks - not the subject, White River Energetics. Of the remaining two, one was American Rifleman, which is fair enough and the other was the state Development Corporation, which is rarely independent since they pretty much exist to promote local business. Put simply, it didn't meet - or come close to meeting - WP:GNG ↗. A quick google turned up primarily results for retailers - rather than independent news/reviews coverage - so without some easy, quick fixes I flagged it as not being suitable for Mainspace, and being moved back to Userspace was a good move from EspressoAddict.
:I would also note that the references to St Marks in the WRE article probably constituted WP:SYNTHESIS ↗. One of the Tallahassee Democrat articles did not mention St Marks Powder as far as I could see - it simply seemed to be evidence of the flooding, whilst the General Dynamics link only tells us that St Marks makes powder and is primary source in any case. The discussion around supply chain risks - whilst probably true - were not actually mentioned in the citations and this veers into WP:ORIGINALRESEARCH ↗, which is not permitted.
:So ultimately, the entire article hung on the one cite from American Rifleman. The others were related-source or tangential to White River (and it's questionable whether the NRAoA are independent since WRE are probably a trade member, but I'll offer the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't a paid-for advertorial).
:I do have an interest in WP:GLOBALISE ↗, as WP has traditionally sufferd a US-centric bias in articles, naming conventions and what is considered "notable". However, this was not a "political" move. It was a simple matter that the article did not meet GNG. All the best. Hemmers (talk) 14:23, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

Firearms enquiry officer training

Hey, I came across the section you created on Firearms enquiry officer ↗ whilst creating Murders of Christine and Lucy Lee#Inquest ↗. On the face of it, they seem to be very similar. Have you been keeping up with anything which we could add to both articles? FozzieHey (talk) 17:05, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @FozzieHey. Thankyou for the nudge as I hadn't been keeping up, but have had a quick look and added a paragraph to the FEO article on the introduction of a mandatory training course in 2024 as there seemed to be some movement in September/November. I have also added a line to the Lee article which skips over discussion of developing a course and basically says they've finally introduced one. Doesn't want to be too long/detailed/duplicative of the FEO article, but a line seems appropriate as the Lee case was probably one of the key catalysts for the CoP pulling their finger out and doing something after 25years. See what you think. All the best. Hemmers (talk) 11:48, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
::Thanks a lot for looking into it. I figured you'd have a lot more context than me as this is the first time I've edited anything substantial on a criminal case article like this. FozzieHey (talk) 12:13, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
:::Thanks for reading through it again and giving it a good copyedit, I still have to find time to read the IPCC report ↗ properly (and possibly a few others) unless you're also up for some light reading? FozzieHey (talk) 19:34, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
::::I have gotten about half way through (up until the end of page 33), and have added a few bits of info to the article accordingly. It seems like the first recommendation is very similar to what we have already included as part of the inquest etc., so it might be worth trying to merge that in (page 32):
::::{{Blockquote|text=It is recommended that Surrey Police consider introducing structured training for all Firearms Enquiry Officers to enable them to perform their role to the required standard, as set out in their job specification and guidance under APP.}} FozzieHey (talk) 23:08, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
