Hostility

What's up with the hostility here ↗, and why did you bend my question so out of context? The entire comment was unnecessary, the reason I added WP:NOTCENSORED ↗ isn't because I think others are "cossacks" (you put racist words in my mouth with that), I included it because some are bound to say "That's graphic, we can't have that!", where NOTCENSORED overlaps. <span style="color:#A188FC;">'''E'''</span><span style="color:#A188FC;">'''F'''</span><span style="color:#A188FC;">'''5'''</span> ↗ 17:36, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

:But what if is ''is'' graphic and we ''can't'' have that? If I say that, am I expressing my editorial judgement, or am I censoring the Wikipedia or trying to? "Censored" is a pretty loaded and inflammatory term. Censors are government agents who, like, come into your newspaper and destroy the presses and so forth. If I disagree with you about the matter, I am being lumped in with those sort of people? Sounds like it to me. Unnecessarily combative in my view. Herostratus (talk) 00:13, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
::Again, you're twisting my words; others agree that your message was too harsh. {{tq|"Or am I censoring the Wikipedia or trying to"}} That is '''not''' the reason I left this message on your talk page, you compared me mentioning WP:CENSORED to me being racist, which is absurd. If you think that I'm being {{tq|Unnecessarily combative in my view}}, then your messages are unnecessarily harsh in my view. This has nothing to do with whether you care or not, the video is in the article anyway so any conversation is practically moot, I left this because your message was very harsh for no reason whatsoever. Others agree as well, so it isn't just me. <span style="color:#A188FC;">'''E'''</span><span style="color:#A188FC;">'''F'''</span><span style="color:#A188FC;">'''5'''</span> ↗ 01:04, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
:::"the video is in the article anyway so any conversation is practically moot"... that's not how the Wikipedia works. Cossacks are not a race (they are Russians) and the reference was to their employment as muscle for the Tsar. I expect people to know these things. I could have used Okhrana or whatever. Third Section. Mothers for Decency.

:::OK so, let us suppose I made a post "I did such-and-so. You all think that's OK? Remember, WP:COMPETENCE ↗ is required to engage on issues." You OK with that? I wouldn't be. Well same thing here. Got my back up, and that's not a good start. A little sensitivity with terms you are using, please. Including "racist", sheesh. Herostratus (talk) 23:17, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
::::What would you like me to use, then? You compared me reminding people of a cement policy to hating cossacks (and don't deny that isn't racism, I'd have half of a mind to take you to ANI right now if you hadn't clarified), {{tq|Remember, WP:COMPETENCE is required to engage on issues}} Of course I'll link WP:COMP, to channel a policy-based and friendly discussion! At least two others also condemn your comment, but I'll leave that there. Saying "A little sensitivity with terms you are using" is highly hypocritical when you basically just interjected your "constructive comment" by saying "Should this be included in the article? Please remember that if you say 'no' you're a cossack, besides which your personal editorial opinion is no interest here here". <span style="color:#A188FC;">'''E'''</span><span style="color:#A188FC;">'''F'''</span><span style="color:#A188FC;">'''5'''</span> ↗ 15:25, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:The Good Darky statue.png

32px|left ↗
Thanks for uploading ''':File:The Good Darky statue.png ↗'''. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use ↗. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion ↗. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have ''no free equivalent''; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

# Go to the file description page ↗ and add the text {{Tlx|Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|&lt;your reason>}} '''below''' the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <code>&lt;your reason></code> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
# On the file's talk page ↗, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license ↗, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on <span class="plainlinks">[{{fullurl:Special:Contributions|target=Herostratus&namespace=6}} this link]</span>. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy ↗. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page ↗. Thank you. <!-- Template:di-replaceable non-free use-notice --> — Ирука13 ↗ 13:02, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

:I had no argument with Fram's nom, BTW. That said, I'm quite impressed in the on-page development since. Certainly the change in focus, which I regard as the natural result of your choosing to follow sources. Your willingness to switch focus to the song seems to have struck an unintended chord (no pun intended) both in sourcing and the AfD agreement. Your switch has allowed for exploration of the overall ''meme'' so to speak. Further, the willingness to switch provided a platform where your original thoughts about the film stub were still utilized in the current article, which might one day be a GA-class contribution, and is certainly a world's better page than the one you created originally. Bravo. Plus, you've used a more collegial tone than I often hear from someone whose page creation seems in doubt. Your edit of 8 Feb 02:58 is particularly worthy. Bravo Zulu, brother. Readdtion of battles and campaigns to the List of battles with most United States military fatalities article

Hi I'm Lazarbeem, like I mentioned on the List of battles with most United States military fatalities ↗ article's talk page, I've been editing that article for the past few months and my first edit on that article was on 29 January 2025 when I added the Anbar campaign ↗. I recently saw that a massive rollback had to be made because of a sockpuppet who vandalized the article. In the process of that rollback, any edits made after 17 March 2025 were removed. I wanted to ask you for help in re-adding some of the battles and campaigns that were removed by the rollback. If you're free and you want to do it that would be much appreciated :) Lazarbeem (talk) 19:44, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
:With the two day full protection I've just applied, Hero, I'd like you to lead talk page discussion until you kids come up with a winner. This is a potentially nasty situation, where what we say in Wikipedia's voice may inadvertently tend to color people's overall opinion of en.wiki. Please gather consensus and allow me to end the protection period post haste. As always, thanks for arguing in good faith. BusterD (talk) 21:16, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
::Do you think that calling me a "kid" is going to help the situation? It's not -- I'd done here, I have no interest in being further insulted. Sounds like you've been hanging out with the other admins too much, colleague.

::But anyway, I mean, what would you have me do? The edits were added by a serial puppet master, I don't know why. Probably just to troll, or maybe she's a Lost Causer, or a whattabouter, or even sincere but just in over her head. Either way, it's my understanding that the edits of banned users are revertable on sight regardless of their motivation or value. Is this not correct?

::I don't know if its possible to delete just the edits of one editor while leavingthe edits of other edits intact, when they are entagled over a couple months and scores of edits, and if it is I don't know how and knowing how is not my job, and keeping in mind that some edits of normal editors have been predicated on the rubric the troller inserted into the article.

::I rolled back to the last clean version. Before the puppetmaster made his first edit. Per WP:BRD ↗. I understand that User:Lazarbeem's edits were sincere, but it looks like some of them were adding together USA + Confederate fatalities into one number, based on sincere belief that that was what was needed here, not knowing that the rubric xe was following was trollery. Sucks. User:Lazarbeem has been hard done by. Tough situation sometimes, when troll get loose. My understanding is that in some cases we have had to have whole projects to fix a prolific troll's work.

::It happens. It's a hard-knock world. If you would have me untangle the situation, I'm not really up for it. Even if I didn't mind being insulted. I have no interest in the work of going over everybody's edits and figuring out if they should stay or not. Cleaning up after trolls is what mops are for I guess. I'm just proposing to send the article back to before when the troll screwed it up. Regardles of good edits lost, it's still an improvement, cos it doesn't have any Lost Causer nonsense.

::But if you all want to send the article back to lumbing the traitors in with the United States forces, OK. What do I know. I'm just a kid apparently. It's time for my nap. Does as you all think best. Herostratus (talk) 00:38, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
:::No offense intended; I was trying to keep it light. We've obviously heard from User:Keystone18 sufficiently. I'm understanding your position quite clearly; I don't disagree in any particular. Now let us hear from Lazarbeem. BusterD (talk) 01:23, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Very well. I really appreciate you not jumping on me for what amounted to a hostile rant. I'm getting old and cranky, and also I hate Confederates. I stand by my basic position, but I said it very poorly and in some places insultingly. I could have said it much, much better. Yes by all means let us hear from Lazerbeem, as I said he ''has'' been poorly done by and that sucks. And thanking Lazerbeem for his fine and diligent work all done in the best of good faith. Herostratus (talk) 02:22, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::You and I are ''always'' good; I feel badly I must announce this to you. I had thought you understood; I respect colleagues most ''those who boldly stand me up to scrutiny''. The overly ''niceness'' has become my SOP. I have only held the mop for four years, but I have learned that always assuming good faith in dispute is a superior platform from which to act when things get truly nasty. Like Dalton says in Road House (1989 film) ↗: "Be nice, until it's time not to be nice." I get less bites on my butt at ANI when I show up with a clean apron. I enjoy this work and want to continue doing it. BusterD (talk) 02:35, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::I'm happy that my work on the List of battles with most United States military fatalities article is being noticed. Also don't worry, I understand that the rollback needed to happen. But I feel like I must formally apologize for combining Union and Confederate KIA in some of my edits. The only reason I did that is because the introduction section of the article at the time said, "Total number of deaths in Civil War battles and campaigns include both Union and Confederate deaths." But now that that's all sorted out, one question I have to ask is what is the best way to re-add the campaigns and battles that were removed by the rollback? Lazarbeem (talk) 14:04, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::I'm asking you to trust Herostratus to help you make these calls. I'm only here to prevent further disruption. I don't want to be a disrupter myself by my presence. BusterD (talk) 14:21, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Not a big deal, but my removal was actually valid under WP:BANREVERT ↗; see the reverted IP's block log ↗. Trust me, there's ''no'' point in arguing with WP:LTA/BKFIP ↗. WP:NOTNEWS

Wasn't sure if using {{tl|user}} on your username resulted in a ping or not, but I quoted something you said last month at WT:NOT ↗ at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2025 Fort Stewart shooting ↗. I don't know that you necessarily will agree/disagree in this exact instance, but figured it was the polite thing to do to at least notify you that I quoted you. =) —Locke Coletc ↗ 03:04, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
:Hey {{ping|Locke Cole}}. I guess its {{tl|ping|username}}. I think when you just use the full username including the "user:" part it and a link it pings, can't remember. But its all fine. Actually, this inspired me to go back there and bloviate some more lol. Actully, the whole thing inspired me to go the talk for WP:NOT ↗ and begin a discussion about major changes to WP:NOTNEWSPAPER ↗ and actully was staring to get agreement, but then I lazied myself away for now. I intend to go back tho. You could go there if you want to try to make a improvement to the actual rule. Herostratus (talk) 23:29, 17 August 2025 (UTC)
::It might not be the worst idea, my other thought was to create Wikipedia:What NOTNEWSPAPER is not ↗ (WP:NOTNOTNEWSPAPER ↗) which would be similar to Wikipedia:What NOTMEMORIAL is not ↗ (WP:NOTNOTMEMORIAL ↗), another explanatory essay I wrote about ''that'' portion of WP:NOT ↗ that gets abused with regularity (my inspiration for that being Wikipedia:What BLP1E is not ↗ (WP:NOTBLP1E ↗)). I know you said it was too late to rid ourselves of WP:NOTNEWS ↗, but if there's enough support it might make it through MFD with a salted delete. No matter what we change at the actual page won't mean much if people just keep blindly linking to the link that says what they want. —Locke Coletc ↗ 23:44, 17 August 2025 (UTC)

Stephen Jo Bladd ↗ moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Stephen Jo Bladd ↗. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing as a live article at this time because '''it has no sources''' and '''needs sourcing to establish notability per WP:NBANDMEMBER ↗'''.
I have converted it to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page ↗.
When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. &bull;&nbsp;<b style="color:#065">Quinn</b> ↗&nbsp;(<span style="color:#000">talk</span> ↗&nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;it/its) 12:19, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},

thumb|400px|New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026 ↗

'''Backlog update'''

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

'''2024 and 2025 NPP Awards'''

74px|left ↗{{no ping|JTtheOG}} was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
{{no ping|Hey man im josh}} and {{no ping|MPGuy2824}} won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

{{no ping|BoyTheKingCanDance}}, {{no ping|Rosiestep}}, {{no ping|SunDawn}}, and {{no ping|Vanderwaalforces}} were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame ↗ for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

'''January–February backlog drive'''

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to {{no ping|JTtheOG}}, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

'''May backlog drive'''

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026 ↗.

'''PageTriage'''

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed ↗ to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket ↗ if you're interested in following along.
