Welcome!

Hello, Taxman1913, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions ↗. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

Your CLA template

You will have noticed in Cory Vitarelli ↗ that the "Team" column wasn't being displyed properly. Glancing at your template I see that it was looking for separate parameters for ''season1_team_link'' and ''season1_team''. I have {{diff2|609404454|corrected it}} for season 1, so you'll probably want to do the same for the other seasons, or you may want to do something to the template to deal with cases where the link parameter is empty. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:06, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

World Team Tennis

Hi Taxman1913, nice work on the World Team Tennis articles! It is an area within the tennis project that is somewhat underdeveloped so it is good that it gets more attention. Kind request, if you create new articles please add the {{tl|WikiProject Tennis}} template, and any other templates that may apply, to the Talk page so that the articles are categorized and can be tracked by the applicable WikiProjects. Thx.--Wolbo (talk) 12:35, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

A page you started (2014 Washington Kastles season) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating 2014 Washington Kastles season ↗, Taxman1913!

Wikipedia editor George.Edward.C just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

<blockquote>Very good! Well done, keep on working on it! :D</blockquote>

San Diego Aviators

Hi Taxman1913, nice work on the San Diego Aviators ↗ article! I have given it a B quality rating. As you are clearly interested in the quality of your World TeamTennis articles you could consider nominating it for Good Article (GA) status ↗. If you are interested and feel that the article meets the GA criteria ↗ you can nominate ↗ it. There is a significant backlog so it can take up to a few months to have it assessed.--Wolbo (talk) 11:09, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
:{{Reply to|Wolbo}} Thanks for your feedback. There is a bit more I'd like to add to that article before I would nominate it for GA status. Also, I looked at the criteria; I think it may fall short. So, hopefully there will be a point in the future when it can be nominated. But I don't think it is there yet. Taxman1913 03:42, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Oakland Breakers

Hi, came across a redlink to the Oakland Breakers ↗ in the article on Ann Kiyomura ↗. Since you are our WTT expert perhaps your might be interested in creating an article on them? --Wolbo (talk) 21:44, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
:{{Reply to|Wolbo}} The Breakers along with several other defunct WTT teams for which we do not have articles are on my long-term list of things I would like to do. Unfortunately, I don't have as much time to devote to this right now as I did a few months ago. I have a lot of work to do on the 2015 WTT articles. The Breakers will be a difficult team about which to write an article, because the franchise existed during a period when the league didn't get much national news coverage. There are several defunct teams in that category. I might have been the one who put that dead link into the Ann Kiyomura article. I do recall editing the WTT section of the artcle about her. I don't mean that the weight is not correct but the parameter {{para|weight}} is not available (see Template:Infobox tennis biography ↗). It doesn't show in the article as you can check.HugoRicciLeah (talk) 07:55, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
:{{Reply to|Hugopako}} Thanks. I'm aware that it doesn't currently show up. There are people warring over the parameter in that template, and there doesn't seem to be a consensus. It keeps getting added and deleted. So maybe it will show up tomorrow. I don't feel strongly either way. But since I had the information, I entered it to be all set for when the parameter returns. And if the parameter is removed from the template, even if that is permanent by consensus, it doesn't do any harm. Taxman1913 (talk) 11:31, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

2018 New York Cosmos Season

I want to thank you for defending my (our team) season article. 1) I was not aware of any arbitrary ruling on who or what sport team can have a wikipedia article. I only created it because I have been contributing heavily to the Cosmos' season articles since 2013 and wanted to continue the tradition. 2) I do not like that there is a "soccer season page" police force out there.

Once again, I want to thank you for defending the page and updating a few loose ends, that I didn't get to. I also for the life of me couldn't figure out why the info box on the stadiums wouldn't format correctly. Tychu9 (talk) 20:16, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

I saw that, thanks. They may dismiss your Bolton comment outright however. Bolton plays in the English League Championship. The Second Tier, fully professional league. No one in the Leyton Orient division or the two divisions under them have season pages. The thing that gets me is that "they" hide behind the "other things exist". Yes they do, but because they didn't notice it. My position is, that if a team and league are officially sanctioned, and there are wiki users who are willing to put together a well managed and written article, then they should be allowed to do it. Why should the events of a semi-pro or amateur season be forgotten (lord knows that the league websites don't do satisfactory job)? With articles like mine, we now will know that Penzini got x amount of goals... Tychu9 (talk) 14:46, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

NPSL 2018 Season and New York Cosmos B

Hey Taxman1913, thank you so much for your continued work on the NPSL 2018 season page. I just had a quick question regarding how you're classify the New York Cosmos B this season.

I understand this season is a bit weird when it comes to the NASL teams which are playing in the NPSL. But I've noticed that in the article, any mention of the team leads to the standard New York Cosmos (2010) article. Shouldn't it be linking to the New York Cosmos B Wikipedia entry? The Cosmos main squad isn't technically fielding a team this year, and both the NPSL website and the Cosmos own website refers to the team as "New York Cosmos B."

Additionally, if the team does win something like the national title wouldn't it go onto the B team's page? A section on the B team's entry explaining the unique circumstances this year would be easier to understand than going to the main team's article. <!-- Template:Unsigned --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by ColeTrain4EVER (talkcontribs ↗) 16:15, 20 July 2018 (UTC)</small> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

And if I may ask, I wonder if you could translate the pages 64-65 of https://jurnal.unimed.ac.id/2012/index.php/GDG/article/view/8564 as well as it's the other clear cut Indonesian source for the topic. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions ↗) 10:02, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
:::::{{Reply to|Jo-Jo Eumerus}} I've completed the translation of the GeoMagz article. Since I'm far from an expert on volcanoes, this was far from easy, but I think the translation is good, and I hope it is useful to you. There are two graphics in the article that are .jpg files with a lot of text on them. The text is very small, an when it is blow up, it is very blurry. A few scattered word were simply impossible to read, but I think I ferreted out the meat of the information presented. You can see the translation at User:Taxman1913/Rinjani. Taxman1913 (talk) 07:57, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
::::::Thanks muchly. I've applied the text with some corrections, minus the blurry images derived one. Is it possible to also translate the pages 64 and 65 of https://jurnal.unimed.ac.id/2012/index.php/GDG/article/view/8564? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions ↗) 09:21, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
:::::::{{Reply to|Jo-Jo Eumerus}} It took me roughly 10 hours to translate that article. The author used lots of jargon that was unfamiliar to me, but you only made a couple of minor edits to the article about the Samalas eruption. Was it really useful to you? I do enjoy learning new things, so this task held my interest, but if you only wanted to know about how Samalas got its name, that would have been much easier. Looking at your next request, the first section on page 64 is a preface or foreword. The second section is titled "Result and Discussion", and it continues all the way to page 68. The final brief section on page 68 is a conclusion. The title of the article indicates that it is about the evolution of a tribal dance performed by the Sasak people on Lombok. The article is from the ''Journal of Art and Culture''. Only the foreword discusses Samalas before easing its way into the dance. Where would you like me to stop? Taxman1913 (talk) 02:40, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
::::::::Well, yeah, I was hoping that the first article would give more information but it seems it didn't all that much. For the second article, it seems from your explanation that it doesn't say much either. So I'll retract the request. Thanks anyway. 16 team version of Template:32TeamBracket-NoSeeds

Although you weren't the initial creator, you were the primary editor of Template:32TeamBracket-NoSeeds. I recently imported that template to use on my fan-made wiki for fictional competitions taking place in stories I'm writing. For entertainment purposes only, all credit where it is due. since part of my story takes place in a round of 16 tournament, I was wondering if you could create a 16-team version of the same template? All the other 16-team templates on Wikipedia simply aren't transportable. Again, all credit goes to you. I'm not sure how often you're on Wikipedia, so I don't expect a quick reply, but if the creation of a 16-team version of Template:32TeamBracket-NoSeeds is possible, I'd be a very happy wiki user. --SkyGuy94 (talk) 04:16, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
:{{Reply to|SkyGuy92}} You got it. See User:Taxman1913/16TeamBracket-NoSeeds. Taxman1913 (talk) 06:56, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In ↗, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page ↗ and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Mary Tyler Moore Show

I admire the way you kept your cool with an editor who was either having a bad day or doesn't get the collaborative nature of Wikipedia. Instant Comma (talk) 21:09, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
:Thanks, {{Reply to|Instant Comma}}. I don't think it helps to escalate the situation, when someone is being hostile. He should not have reverted my original edits, since they improved the quality of the character description in the article. It was ridiculous to say my edit was unsourced, since her identification as a landlady was also unsourced. He may believe my post on the Talk page was calling him out, but he left me no choice. It was a far better option than an edit war. While my post was lengthy, it clearly established that Phyllis was not a landlady. She is never identified as such in that fictional universe. Had she and Lars owned the building, the plot of the ''Phyllis'' spin-off series wouldn't work. Cheers. Taxman1913 (talk) 04:06, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

2021–22 New York Islanders season

Thanks for updating the player statistics. However, I should note that player statistics are updated at the end of the week (Sunday night or Monday morning) or when the team plays its last game of the week. – Sabbatino (talk) 15:32, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
:Thanks, {{Ping|Sabbatino}}. I looked at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/NHL team season pages format ↗ and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey/NHL team season pages format ↗, but I couldn't find such a policy. If there is consensus on this, it should probably be stated in one of those two places. In any case, it seems to me that editing player statistics more frequently than weekly is harmless. Taxman1913 (talk) 18:16, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
::Those two pages that you linked have not been updated in years so they are a poor example, because they are outdated. Player statistics are updated once a week, because in the past we had trouble with certain editors who would edit the player statistics daily or even during the game, which caused them to add factually incorrect content. In addition, Wikipedia is not supposed to be up-to-date regarding certain topics. Furthermore, there is a longstanding consensus not to update player statistics on team season pages daily. Some editors make updates every five games, some of them (me included) make one update in a week and I am willing to follow that pattern. – Sabbatino (talk) 19:19, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
:::{{Ping|Sabbatino}}, perhaps those pages should be updated. Otherwise there exists a secret editing policy that no one could possibly learn before doing something thought to be helpful and an improvement to the encyclopedia but frowned upon by regular and frequent contributors. In the absence of making this policy known and easily found on the ice hockey Wikiproject pages, the policy itself runs the risk of running afoul of WP:OWN ↗, since only those "in the know" dictate how frequently updates are made. Translation

Hello! Strange request here, but an article about me and my Wikipedia work ↗ has been promoted to Good article status at English Wikipedia and nominated for similar status at Spanish Wikipedia ↗. I'm curious if you have any interest in translating the entry for Indonesian Wikipedia or other projects?

Figured I'd ask since your profile suggests you do translation work. Either way, happy editing! ---<span style="color:navy">Another Believer</span> (<span style="color:#C60">Talk</span>) 06:42, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

:Hi, I'm a bit stretched right now. Perhaps I could get to this in the late spring. Looking at the article, it has a lot of links to other article on English Wikipedia. So, the Indonesian article would contain those links, which means non-English speakers would have difficulty understanding them. I'd also need to confirm that you meet the notability standards for an article on Indonesian Wikipedia, but I expect you probably do. I'll follow up in a few months. Le Moyne men's basketball

I have recently noticed that you have added an extremely extensive amount of information to Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball § History ↗ and then proceeded to split each detailed section into their own article, while I was looking through the new pages patrol. Instead of seperating and splitting the article and its section, you should just make individual season articles (similar to 2023–24 Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball team ↗ for each of the anchors), make a simple History of Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball ↗ article instead and remove the excessive detail in both the main article and the proceeding overall program history article. KingSkyLord (talk &#124; contribs ↗) 12:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
:{{reply to|KingSkyLord}} I considered doing that, but I am not convinced that each individual season is notable and merits an article on Wikipedia. Le Moyne became a Division I program in 2023, and WP:NTEAM ↗ simply refers to the general notability guidelines. it is fairly well established that an article about a Division I men's basketball team is notable given the significant coverage received. Every Division I team has an article on Wikipedia. However, it cannot be concluded from WP:NSEASONS ↗ that individual non-Division I seasons of a men's college basketball team are notable. At the bottom of that guidance, it says: {{blockquote|text=In cases in which the individual season notability is insufficient for an article, multiple seasons may be grouped together in a single article.}} Faced with the challenge of a current Division I team that has a lengthy history as a Division II team, playing a large number of Division I opponents during that time, I've been developing that history in the main article. Then, faced with another challenge described at WP:SIZE ↗, I've split the notable material from the main article into history articles of reasonable length covering multiple seasons to solve the problem and follow the advice at WP:NSEASONS. The history is notable, because it would be included in the main article, if we did not care about article size. However, a separate article about Le Moyne's 1948–49 season would have the team's complete roster and schedule (which I have), and those things are not notable. The result would be 74 separate season articles with information that doesn't meet notability criteria. Taxman1913 (talk) 13:20, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
::{{re|Taxman1913}}: Then you should merge the 1948–1958 ↗, 1958–1960 ↗, 1960–1963 ↗, and other sections of the History subpage together into one History of Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball ↗. The second content fork ↗ you made is about just two seasons. Please summarize and shorten those articles into that new program history page. KingSkyLord (talk &#124; contribs ↗) 13:41, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
:::{{reply to|KingSkyLord}} That would be difficult to do that while the history is still being developed as is presently the case. If a target size for the summarized article were chosen, it would be impossible to determine how much space of that whole should be allocated to 1948 through 1963. A summarized article of the entire history can best be created when the entire history is available to summarize. Meanwhile, the three existing history articles and any more that will be split off from the main article can act as placeholders. Taxman1913 (talk) 14:07, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

Conference tournaments

Hi, Taxman1913. Thank you for your contributions to various different college basketball tournament Wikipedia pages, especially the pages for the tournaments of the NEC and Patriot League. I just wanted to thank you for your dedication to improving articles about college basketball. Your contributions have even been noticed by others, namely the account "Never Made the Tourney Club" on Twitter ↗. Keep up the good work! Bulldawg (talk) 01:22, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

:{{re|BullDawg2021}} Thanks for your kind note. I actually follow 23 Division I teams, mostly MBB and FB, but also baseball and anything else that happens to catch my eye. One of my teams is the Georgia Dawgs, who have been on my list since 1979. So, we are <u>brothers</u>. I've followed the NEC since its inception. I was a St. Francis Terriers ↗ fan since I was a teenager. When they eliminated athletics, I couldn't let the NEC go, so I adopted Le Moyne. I've done a lot of work on Le Moyne Dolphins men's basketball ↗ and gotten to know Le Moyne's MBB on-air team and their SID. They have a This Day in Dolphins History feature at halftime, and I'm the one who writes the copy for each game. During today's game, the SID saw the Twitter post your referenced and texted me, asking whether those details were my work. I've been following Army since 1981. If only they had beaten Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium... maybe they would have been in the CFP and the Irish would have missed out. Alas, they lost to Navy anyway, which makes the season a failure. Anyway, today was a bad day. Army could have been the no. 3 seed and dropped to no. 6. Le Moyne could have been the no. 7 and avoided Central Connecticut in the QF, but they foul too much. Most of the contributions to 2024–25 Northeast Conference men's basketball season ↗ are mine. Since WP:NOTSTATS ↗, I think articles should have things actually written in them and not be merely a series of tables. You'll find that in this season's and last season's NEC articles as well as the Le Moyne MBB articles for this season and last. The overwhelming majority of college basketball articles ignore this and just present summary information that is readily available elsewhere on the Internet (for recent seasons anyway). My extensive research of the history of Le Moyne MBB led to a very large article that I have split off to separate history articles as each section is done. Minimalists have tagged some as containing ''excessive detail of interest only to a particular audience''. If that's true, do we need the scores of each round for each competitor in Olympic archery? I'm aware that, just because the issue exists elsewhere, it doesn't make mine okay. If you have time, check out what I've written on Le Moyne MBB, and let me know what you think. They have a fascinating history, including 65 wins over D-I teams as a D-II program. In the end, isn't just about every article on Wikipedia of interest only to a particular audience? Finally, it was you who caught my error in the American-Bucknell tiebreaker, failing to notice it was affected by the Navy result. Kudos, my friend. Taxman1913 (talk) 02:01, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
::I admire your passion for collegiate athletics and especially Le Moyne athletics. I think what you're doing with the Le Moyne basketball page is very neat. I'll go through and read some of your work in depth soon. I think you might have enough information to write a whole book, lol. And I agree with your point; every article on Wikipedia is of interest only to a particular audience. The reader wouldn't be reading the article if they had no reason or desire to view it. I have to admit that I attribute to the lack of depth in some of the college basketball articles on this site. I have started 60+ articles on various conference basketball tournaments over the last few years, and none of them have any sort of depth. I think I'll start this year with adding game summaries to the pages, at least. Also, I admit that I only caught that error in the tiebreaker by watching the end of the Bucknell-HC game. I think it's cool that you follow so many teams. Georgia is my main team; I follow all of their athletics. I also keep up with Kennesaw State and Berry College. Other than that, I just watch college athletics for my love of them. Sorry about Le Moyne and Army. Keep up the excellent work; your edits are great for college basketball Wikipedia! Go Dawgs! Bulldawg (talk) 02:50, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
:::{{re|BullDawg2021}} So cool that you follow a D-III team. I have a bachelor's and a master's degree from a D-III school, and I have no idea how they're doing this season. The only PL game I watched today was the Army game, and Rich DeMarco didn't talk about the no. 1 seed at all. Taxman1913 (talk) 02:59, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Proposed deletion ↗ of :2025 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament ↗

left|link=|alt=Notice|48px| ↗

The article :2025 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗&#32;because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''It appears there is no 2025 edition of this tournament.'''</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> Coining (talk) 11:57, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

NEC tournament

Hi, Taxman1913. I removed the redirect to the 2026 NEC men's basketball tournament ↗ and started the article. I left it pretty barebones, so you can go do your thing with it. Bulldawg (talk) 05:29, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

:{{reply to|BullDawg2021}} Thanks for getting it started. I'm not sure the article name you've chosen meets the requirements of WP:COMMONNAME ↗. Many secondary sources continue to refer to the league as '''Northeast Conference'''. Please see the discussion I opened on the talk page for the 2025–26 season ↗. I'll look into it further when I tackle editing that page and move it if necessary. Taxman1913 (talk) 01:27, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

collapses

I noticed some time ago you collapsed various things. I just wanted to let you know that two parameters you <s>created</s>added to many articles, <code>collapseconftour</code> and <code>collapseconfregsea</code>, '''do not exist'''. I would greatly appreciate if you could either add them to {{tl|Infobox college basketball team}}, or remove all occurrences of them. If you add them, make sure to add them to the parameter list, so they are no longer marked as unknown. <span style="color:#0B0080">User "Oreocooke"</span> (speak of the sun and it shines ↗) 17:08, 11 May 2026 (UTC)

:{{re|Oreocooke}} When I added those parameters to the infoboxes, they did exist, because I had created them.
:Here is the last version of the template I edited ↗ which shows the parameters existed.
:That version of the template was the result of discussions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College basketball/Archive 11#Infobox standardization ↗ with further discussion at Sandbox changes made to team infobox ↗, Team infobox changes made ↗, Additional proposed changes to team infobox ↗, Updates re team template ↗, 1907–08 season ↗ and Changes made to team infobox ↗
:More recent discussions were opened at Template talk:Infobox college basketball team#Conference titles ↗ ''et seq.'' primarily between {{u|Red0ctober22}} and {{u|PK-WIKI}} that spurred the more recent changes to the template made by Red0ctober22 with technical and other corrections made by {{u|Jonesey95}}. These changes removed the parameters to which you refer. It is my understanding that Red0ctober22 accepted the reponsibility to clean up articles containing parameters that were rendered broken by the changes he made. To wit: {{tpq|As I said before, I will now go in and standardize individual pages manually, which obviously will take some time, but after that there should be little to no more teams using the record parameter, then we can probably remove it or figure out something else to do with it. Red0ctober22 (talk) 18:18, 9 March 2026 (UTC)}} I am unsure how many pages Red0ctober22 has already standardized.
:Last year, I went through every article that called the template and made changes where appropriate to take advantage of the new parameters that had been created, remove all unknown paramters, some of which had been there since the earth cooled, and clean up the appearance of the infoboxes in the articles. It is a time-consuming task that I will not be performing again this year. Taxman1913 (talk) 01:51, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
::ok got it I'll keep that in mind <span style="color:#0B0080">User "Oreocooke"</span> (speak of the sun and it shines ↗) 01:52, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
::So the removal of those parameters of collapsing conf. tournament and regular season results were brought up and done after the more recent discussions that @Taxman1913 mentioned. It was agreed that these parameters were a violation of MOS:DONTHIDE ↗. Part of my standardization, to which I have done roughly 70 pages so far I believe, was removing the parameter from any pages that still use it so that the "deprecated parameter" warning will not show up on any pages anymore. I have been trying to gain the permission for AutoWikiBrowser so that I would be able to do this faster, but I am still waiting on that. Red0ctober22 (talk) 02:24, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
