An apology
By the way, I apologize for assuming bad faith at your MfD for No Nazis ↗. I hadn't seen your final response to me until just now (looking for the link where I'd assumed bad faith) and I have to say that your response was warranted. I was being glib and unfriendly. Having dealt with a mountain of trolls is no excuse. You clearly have a lot to offer the encyclopedia and I hope you continue to play an active role –– even if (or rather especially because) we don't always agree. Generalrelative (talk) 03:27, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
:Thanks Generalrelative, I appreciate that very much. Thank you for your kind words. Zanahary (talk) 03:53, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

A "News media in Madagascar" article
Howdy! So a little bit ago I started a draft about Malagasy news - User:Generalissima/News media in Madagascar - and while I was able to find good information about history, I've struggled to find good sources about contemporary situation. Since you have a lot of experience with writing about Madagascar-related topics, I thought I might consult your help. I think there might very well be sources I just wasn't able to find here, and I think there might be a number that are simply in French or Malagasy. Thank you very much for your time and your good work on-wiki! Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 17:30, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
:@Generalissima I’m so flattered to be asked! Your draft is excellent—thank you for writing this! I’ll take a look and see what I can find. Zanahary (talk) 17:35, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::{{Yo|Zanahary}} Hi! I just wanted to check if this was still something you wanted to work on together :) Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 20:40, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
:::Salut Generalissima! I loaded the Talk page with sources last month—I'm currently in the process of moving, but when I free up again I'd be happy to work on adding prose to the article. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 22:04, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
History of Africa ↗
Hi, can I just clarify what you mean by missing many countries? Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:48, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:Btw I see you're interested in Madagascan history, do you know of any good resources for a general history? Tbf I'm impressed by History of Madagascar ↗ Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:51, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::Yes! A great overview is Stephen Ellis and Solofo Randrianja’s ''Madagascar: A Short History''. Zanahary (talk) 17:12, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::Thank you, I'll try to remember to let you know when I've done the draft to their section which might be in a month or so Alexanderkowal (talk) 17:16, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::::Great! Do let me know; I can contribute. Zanahary (talk) 17:17, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::Okay will do, thank you, I read the General History of Africa ↗ and the Madagascan history was dreadfully done, my only critique with Wikipedia's history is that the kingdoms on Madagascar don't have their own pages as far as I know Alexanderkowal (talk) 17:19, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::::::It’s crazy! The Betsileo and Sakalava kingdoms are both on my to-do for creating articles. Zanahary (talk) 17:23, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::::That's great, thank you, when you do make them please add them to List of kingdoms in Africa throughout history ↗ as it's missing loads of Madagascan ones Alexanderkowal (talk) 17:26, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::::::::Will do! (And btw, the word is Malagasy—“Madagascan” is still used only in biology, e.g. “Four newly-discovered Madagascan fishes” Zanahary (talk) 17:30, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::::Are you interested in oral tradition? I've just bought Jan Vansina ↗'s book and want to add loads to the page, do you know of any Madagascan traditions that have wikipedia pages? Alexanderkowal (talk) 17:30, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::::::::I am! Check out ''Ibonia ↗'' (especially the ''How to Read a Folktale'' source), the "Malagasy Secret" section of Jews in Madagascar ↗ and Hainteny ↗.
::::::::It’s (I think) an unusually complex society in terms of richness of beliefs, oral mythology, ritual practice and the assignment of ritual roles in everyday life. Maybe the origin myths recounted on Savika ↗ will interest you too. Zanahary (talk) 17:34, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::::::thank you, I'm just amazed by how much depth they have, the traditions of the Ghana Empire ↗ are thought to have content from prehistory although much has been lost, I try to also talk about the oral traditions when writing African history Alexanderkowal (talk) 18:30, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::::::::You might be interested in the Kingdom of Simien ↗ and Gudit ↗ Alexanderkowal (talk) 18:36, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:Just that it’s got lots of sections for countries within eras that say “this section is being written”, which is too unfinished for B-class Zanahary (talk) 17:11, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::That's fair, honestly I'd put it lower lol Alexanderkowal (talk) 17:15, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
:::Haha yeah it could also be Start-class. I put my own article Split of Christianity and Judaism ↗, which is similarly full of holes, as a Start. Zanahary (talk) 17:16, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::::I'll put it as start as it is very much under construction Alexanderkowal (talk) 17:16, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
::::I think I'm gonna do the Swahili coast and Madagascar next, is it alright if I write a bit and do the base for the narrative and then send it over for input? Alexanderkowal (talk) 10:18, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

::::::Hi, bit niche but I'm having some trouble with discerning when and how Zebu were introduced. I've seen some say Tamil merchants, some say the first wave of Bantu migrants c. 1000, some say they were imported from South India Kowal2701 (talk) 16:31, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
:::::::@Kowal2701 I believe they were brought by Bantus—I remember reading something when researching for Savika ↗ about it. Hi, this is what I've got so far, are there any changes you'd make or anything that you would like to add?

Are you able to comment
Are you able to comment on Talk:Lakana#Complete work of fiction ↗? It may be that this is an article that should be put up for deletion, so if that is wrong, I really need to find other editors who will say so. Also, if there are RSs out there for an article on the traditional watercraft of Madagascar (I don't seem to be able to find any), I think that would be an interesting article.

removed edits
Dear zamahary,
I see you removed my edits regarding this article. After I initially translated dahalo as bandit, i removed some of its mentions as it seemed unneccesary to mention both lawlessness/bandits and dahalo. However, with the additional cattle-rustling dimension I can see how its of additional value to mention dahalo. The other edits i were quite constructive, would you consider adding those? Question from Dave1964g (09:33, 1 May 2025)
Hello, I have a lot of PDF's regarding Witney Rugby Club History (60 years) as written by Dave (Dabber) Willis, a long standing club member. I wanted to take these and create a Wikipedia page with the content. He created a physical book with his content and so I cannot really reference it. Some of the book was written by me and I have referenced that content on the Club website. --Dave1964g (talk) 09:33, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
:@Dave1964g, wow, that’s fascinating! That source may be somewhat problematic, as it is not independent ↗ and, I am guessing, self-published ↗ and/or primary ↗. This doesn’t disqualify the source, but it comes with caveats, which you can read about if you click on the hyperlinked words in this comment.
:I can say quite definitely that the source is not enough to establish the club’s notability ↗. Spots clubs must meet Wikipedia’s general notability guideline ↗, which means it needs to have demonstrated notability through significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. You should search for those to cite in writing your article.
:I know linking so many policies and guidelines may be overwhelming, so in short: that sounds really cool; you’ll can probably use Willis’s source; you’ll need some reliable sources that show this club to be notable enough for its own article. Try posting a comment at WikiProject Sports ↗ for more guidance from editors experienced in writing about this subject! ꧁Zanahary꧂ 23:53, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from EggtoothLost (16:46, 25 August 2025)
Hello Zanahary, I know that I am still learning Wikipedia and how its page editor works, but I do have a question that is more advanced. How does a new page get created? Specifically, I see that this page -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_dumping -- as it currently exists confuses environmental dumping (chemicals and waste) with another form of dumping "environmental product dumping." Both are harmful to the environment, but the latter is when consumer products that are harmful to the environment are sold at very cheap prices in developing countries as a way to maximize profits from old technology. The products in question are usually used heavy equipment, used and new HVAC equipment, used automobiles, etc. I think there should be a separate page for "Environmentally harmful product dumping" (or similar title) that links from the environmental dumping page. Thank you! --EggtoothLost (talk) 16:46, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
:https://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1356&context=delpf this page discusses the legal aspects of it, so you can see this is not a new thing. Thank you. EggtoothLost (talk) 16:48, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
::Hi @EggtoothLost! I don't think I see anywhere in the source you link that there's a practice known as "dumping" wherein environmentally harmful products are sold from richer countries to more developing ones. Question from Truitacreilles (14:13, 10 October 2025)
Dear Zanahary, I have a question related to editing. I have been suggested to review a page that has been detected to not be impartial on its writing. The page in question is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexagonal_fast_Fourier_transform, which mentions names and the history of the development for the method. After further scrutiny, one of the writers of this articles is one of the developers of this mathematical method, mentioned inside the article. This questions the impartiality of the writing, should the mentions of anyone be removed inside the article or should it be kept? It is not clear to me from the automatic review suggestions.
Thank you in advance. --Truitacreilles (talk) 14:13, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Question from Stop culprits (09:59, 25 November 2025)
Hi Zanahary, thanks for being my mentor here. As I am new here and look like already started controversy. As I was trying to add the legal matter but other editors keep deleting. Even I was happy to discuss on talk page. But they keep deleting so not sure what I am doing wrong here. Please see if you can help me to understand. Why I can’t add legal matter to live person while clearly mentioning case is under investigation and followed all wiki’s policies. --Stop culprits (talk) 09:59, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
:@Stop culprits, per WP:BLPRESTORE ↗, material removed on BLP concerns (as this material was) cannot be restored without positive consensus to include it. Your dispute relates to the “caution” advised by BLPCRIME, which is deliberately subjective. It’s up to you to convince others that BLPCRIME would be followed if your desired content were restored. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 10:10, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Nimagrs (08:32, 2 December 2025)
Hello! I’m interested in learning how to properly create new articles on Wikipedia about the history of Iranian architecture, notable architectural landmarks, and influential Iranian architects and historical figures. Could you please guide me on the best practices for sourcing references, establishing notability, and formatting new articles? I would really appreciate your mentorship. Thank you! --Nimagrs (talk) 08:32, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
:Hi @Nimagrs, that sounds great! I would advise you to make your first article about something small and easy to complete—maybe a single architect, building, or movement described at Iranian architecture ↗ that doesn’t yet have an article. For finding sources, I find that Google Scholar is a really excellent source. You can draw from English-language, Turkish-language, and Persian-language (and other) sources. For notability, see WP:GNG ↗, WP:NBUILDING ↗ and WP:NARCHITECT ↗ as the probably most relevant policies. And for formatting and style, see WP:MOS ↗ and WP:Your first article ↗. It’s recommended that your first article be submitted through the WP:AFC ↗ process, so that you can get coaching and feedback before it goes live. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 09:25, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

- Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
- Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
- Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
- Streak awards ↗ will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
- Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles ↗ previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
- Interested in participating? '''Sign up here ↗'''.

Kanchenjunga's orginal name
Hi! My previous edit on the Kanchenjunga ↗ page was removed for adding the orginal name of the mountain in the first line of the article.
'''"Kangchenjunga (or Khangchendzonga) is the third-highest mountain in the world."'''
I have created a thread in the talk page defending my edition. Could you please spare few minutes of your time to visit the talk page and read my thread? Unbreakablerodent (talk) 05:47, 1 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Karl Shuman (14:06, 10 January 2026)
Hi Zanahary!
Hope this message finds you well! I just recently got an account with hopes of publishing an artist biography for myself. I’ve been a professional musician for about 25 years. In 2010, I moved to Stockholm Sweden with intentions of retiring from this line of work and begin a new career. Well, didn’t quite happen!😅 I was offered a job working with autistic adults with music. Song writing, recording, theater, chorus, videos, etc. Needless to say it has been an incredible and rewarding journey and it gave me the “fire” to start writing again. So in 2020, I built a studio in my apartment in Stockholm and now working on my 6th studio. In addition, I flew home this past October to do my first live performance at the university where my career began in 1992, to make the night truly authentic, I brought back my original band mates. We hadn’t played with the same line up in 25 years. Much to my delight, the show sold out, the band played as if we never stopped playing and actually sounded the best we ever had. The crowd was impressed, so much things started to happen again. Social media pages I created in Sweden lit up. This social media blitz was something I never experienced because we didn’t have social media during my time performing. My Facebook, suddenly hit 65,000 views and they began paying me, my YouTube that I created to put up all my music throughout my career, so fans could get the music for free. Within days after the show, my Channel went from 10 hits a week to 2500 hits, and continues to do very well. Friday I had 400 hits in 24 hours which is mind blowing to me and it’s now my plan to continue on as long as I can.
Then it was suggested to me that I put out a Wikipedia page for myself which I thought was a great idea , so I created an account. Once that was finished I searched through info on the site, but the problem I’m having, or perhaps I’m confused, is the information uses the term Edit. Out of space!😀 --Karl Shuman (talk) 14:06, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
Cont.
I’m not wanting to “edit” others publications, but creat my own page and get the help from others to make my page look great! I can’t find or just don’t where I should begin! I see everywhere to start my editing, but can’t find the area on the site that will help me get started to write the biography.
Zanahary, I will be the first to admit that I’m a technological idiot! So I saw that they had assigned me a mentor which I couldn’t be more thankful for, and that mentor is you! Any help you can assist me with in getting started would be so very appreciated! Thanks so much for your time Zanahary!
Warm regards,
Karl Shuman --Karl Shuman (talk) 14:16, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
:Hi Karl! Your work sounds great, and I am glad you're pulling crowds!{{pb}}Wikipedia strongly discourages autobiographies ↗, but they're not disallowed.{{pb}}First, read our notability guidelines for musicians ↗. They're quite strict. If you don't have considerable coverage of yourself as amusician in reliable secondary sources, you won't be eligible for coverage on Wikipedia. If you believe you meet them, you should assemble reliable secondary sources on yourself, and prepare a draft article according to the guidance at WP:COI ↗. You should submit the draft via the Articles for Creation ↗ process, should you choose to write your article. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 15:28, 15 February 2026 (UTC)

Thanks to your guidance, I was able to create my first page on Wikipedia. I feel extremely overwhelmed. It took me more than two hours to do independent research and fixing my grammar. You may see the new page ↗ if you want to. Nevermind. It was taken down. Unbreakablerodent (talk) 19:56, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
:Hi @Unbreakablerodent, your article was moved to Draft:All Bodo Students' Union ↗, because a patroller saw it as not yet ready for mainspace. :Hi @Eminem415—what do you mean by a notification?{{pb}}See WP:CLOP ↗ for our relevant policy. Basically, just write in your own words. The actual ideas in your writing shouldn't be original, because this is a place to repeat what other sources have already said. Just make sure in your summaries and descriptions of those sources, you aren't copying exact language and violating copyrights. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 14:47, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Jess "BiG Jess " Willard (00:37, 20 February 2026)
hello! This is my first time putting information on her. Some one else has me as Big Jessie Willard all over this site. I really appreciate it but for one my name is Jess not Jessie. I would like to consolidate the information and start updating my own page. --Jess "BiG Jess " Willard (talk) 00:37, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
:Hello @Jess "BiG Jess " Willard! To make sure we're talking about the same thing: you're a hip-hop producer, and you want credits to your name on Wikipedia to be changed from "Big Jessie" Willard to something else? I took a look at the liner notes for The Comrads and see that you're credited there as Big Jess for your production, and as Jess Willard for your engineering. So, it seems like you're right to want that fixed, and you can go ahead and edit each page that mentions the wrong name for you and fix it—you just press the "edit" button (it's a pencil icon on mobile) and write the correct name.{{pb}}For convenience: those articles are: Made in America (Kam album) ↗, The Villain in Black ↗, The Comrads (album) ↗, and Da Hood (album) ↗. You can go ahead and edit those to correct your name.{{pb}}To make your own page, you need to know: first, Wikipedia discourages people from writing their own biographies, as everyone has a conflict of interest when writing about themselves. But, it's allowed as long as you follow policy. Check out our notability guidelines for musicians ↗ to make sure you're eligible for a page. You may also qualify for the notability guideline for composers and lyricists ↗, which are less strict. If you're eligible for an article, you can follow the guidance WP:1ST ↗ to begin working on it. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 14:02, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Unishkalumni (23:23, 24 May 2026)
Hello,
I have a previous account, but I have not used it for over a year due to other commitments. Recently, I tried to log in again using my username and password so I could resume contributing. However, the system asked me to verify my account and sent a code to an email address that I did not recognize.
I do not believe I ever registered an email address with the account. If I did, I have since forgotten it. Could you please advise me on whether it is possible to recover and continue using my old account, or whether I should simply continue with this new one?
Most of my editing work was done on the Albanian Wikipedia. Here is a link to my previous contributions in English:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Universiteti_i_Shkodres_Luigj_Gurakuqi
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you --Unishkalumni (talk) 23:23, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

Question from KatLogbook on Draft:Wilmot Castle Company ↗ (19:39, 2 June 2026)
Hello this is my first article. I have done edits on other pages. I am still working on this draft and am not ready for any kind of review at this time. I will be adding more content, references, pictures and grammar edits. I need to pick up my grandkids LOL. Do I hit Publish or is there a way for nonpublic draft? --KatLogbook (talk) 19:39, 2 June 2026 (UTC)
:Sorry I couldn't help you sooner! Is it Draft:Wilmot Castle Company ↗? ꧁Zanahary꧂ 20:21, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
::Yes, it is at the very beginning stages, tons of edits, content, graphics and references to come from US Patent office, Wall Street Journal, US Dept of Navy, Smithsonian and Democrat & Chronicle Newspaper. Please not ready for review.
::Two Quick Questions: Can a publication made by the company itself be used as a reference? Can entries from the companies ledger be referenced? KatLogbook (talk) 22:18, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Yes @KatLogbook, the company's own publications may be used (see the guideline at WP:ABOUTSELF ↗). Hmm, the company ledger—is that accessible in some archive to external researchers? It's important that sources be independently verifiable. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 17:36, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

Question from KatLogbook on User talk:Zanahary (17:34, 5 June 2026)
I have marked the draft of "Wilmot Castle Company" as a conflict of interest since its founder is my great grandfather. Before I continue working on my draft, which is not being submitted for review at this time, will this conflict keep the artlcle from being published? --KatLogbook (talk) 17:34, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
:That definitely won't prevent the article from being published! ꧁Zanahary꧂ 17:35, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
::Resource questions:
::In 1983 the WIlmot Castle Company published ten issues of the "Castle Herald" marking the company's 100th anniversary. These issues give details of the company's history which is not available elsewhere. Can content from this publication be used?
::Can content taken directly from company ledgers be referenced? ( not sure how to identify this primary source) KatLogbook (talk) 18:34, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
:::Yes, that Castle Herald material can be used, since it was published. Are those ledgers available to be accessed someplace, or do you have privileged and singular access that others wishing to verify your citation wouldn't be able to get? ꧁Zanahary꧂ 18:44, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
::::We personally have the ledger books therefore privileged and singular access KatLogbook (talk) 19:34, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::In that case, I'd advise against using those. If they or their data were published somewhere, like a company website, then they could be usable. But if it's really just a ledger with cash flows, that information is probably not too encyclopedically relevant anyways. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 19:36, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::thx... have a great weekend! KatLogbook (talk) 19:57, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::No problem, and you too! Always here to answer further questions. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 20:00, 5 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Good Morning- As I mentioned before I am using some information from the "Castle Herald" which was a ten issue company newsletter. The Rochester Historical Society is now in possession of a copy for public view. How do I cite this reference? Also how do I cite company photos that are now also held by the RHS? KatLogbook (talk) 14:41, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Great! How do you intend to use the photos?
:::::There is no formal standard for citations. The RHS may have a recommended style. If they have record numbers, include that, too. As long as it allows the source to be identified for verification, it should be no problem. So, for instance (I’m making details up): Castle Herald #2, 1972, pg. 11–14, in the archives of the Rochester Historical Society. ꧁Zanahary꧂ 14:58, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
::::::I want to add images to page to support content, ie photo of original founder, image of products etc. I haven’t even tried to add images yet since I was waiting to be sure copies would be available at RHS. KatLogbook (talk) 15:20, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::::To add the images to the article, you would not need to cite them. To refer to information contained in the images (which I doubt you’ll need to do), citations would be necessary.
:::::::In order for the images to be used on the article, they would need to be released under a Wikimedia-compatible image license. Are you the copyright holder? ꧁Zanahary꧂ 16:47, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
