Hello! + Madetoja
Hi, Artem.G! It's nice to make your acquaintance. I appreciate you periodically poking around the articles I create/update (sometimes in haste!) about lesser-known Finnish and Swedish composers. Madetoja's music really is quite wonderful, and I am so very glad to hear that it has made an impression on you. My preference is for the interpretations on Ondine by John Storgårds ↗ and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra ↗, but the Alba five-disc set by Arvo Volmer ↗ and the Oulu Symphony Orchestra ↗ is unbeatable in its exhaustive coverage. ''The Ostrobothnians ↗'', however (and surprisingly), can be hard to come by, because only Finlandia Records has produced commercial recordings. I own the interpretation by Jukka-Pekka Saraste ↗ and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra ↗, and it's lovely... although, not being a big opera fan myself, I prefer the suite that Madetoja excerpted (the same goes for ''Juha ↗'', and you can find two excerpted orchestral works from that opera courtesy of Volmer/Alba). I initially, with the invaluable help of jack-of-all-trades {{User|Finnusertop}}, worked on Madetoja back in 2016, but I have been returning to his articles of late (as well as creating new ones for ''The Garden of Death ↗'' and ''Kullervo ↗'') since I have learned some new tricks and improved as an editor since then. May I also recommend to you the music of Uuno Klami ↗, Lars-Erik Larsson ↗, and Dag Wirén ↗? <span style="font-variant:small-caps">~ Silence of Järvenpää</span> 17:31, 19 November 2022 (UTC) PS: Sorry about the mix-up on the Toivo Kuula ↗ WL... I tend to bounce around pages as I edit, and so things are in various stages of not done, done, and done-done. :)
: Hey {{u|Silence of Järvenpää}}, thanks for nice message and recommendations! I'm not a big fan of opera, but I do like new music! I got really interested in Kalevala and Kalevala-related music after I saw this video of guys reading the poem https://youtube.com/channel/UCqoyq2JdWolL_bOOaR904bQ ↗. I don't know Finnish, but it sound beautiful :) I read some of your Sibelius articles, and they are great - I'm (slowly) listening to his music, and will try Madetoja and others you've recommend. Klami sounds familiar, though I doubt I know any of his works, others are totally new for me! And thanks for your articles, it's always great such nice work on (obscured?, or, even, previously neglected) musicians and works. Artem.G (talk) 16:33, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing Charm quark ↗! You are a very careful and thoughtful reviewer. Here's a kitten.
I plan to raise two cats in the future, one orange and one black. The orange one will be called "photon" (brightness / warmth / orange) and the other will be called "electron" (all black cats are the same and so are all electrons).
Cheers,

:thanks! Ambitious plans, photon will probably require an overhaul, though it's not really bad at the moment, and electron is already FA :) Artem.G (talk) 16:29, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Beno Rothenberg
Hello there!
Just wanted to congratulate you on creating the English article of Beno Rothenberg!
You may have noticed that I have worked for a long time on the Jewish artists of the Ecole de Paris as well as the artists of Safed. If you have any additional information in that regard, or Rothenberg's connection to them, I'd love to know!
Thank you for your additions! Homerethegreat (talk) 11:36, 4 November 2023 (UTC)

Renaming of Victor Martinovich's page
Hello, Artem. I noticed that you renamed several times in a row the page of Victor Martinovich (in English). I would like to point out that this is an English-language page, and on it the name should be written as it is in the author's English-language publications - Victor Martinovich - that is how his name is written in all published novels and articles in English. The combinations of letters you are using do not correspond to any of the possible languages or even to the Belarusian Latin alphabet (for example, there would be no t in the surname, as it would go to c). Also, specifying the Victor Martinovich variant will help to better recognize the surname and first name specifically in English-speaking countries. Stepnoj Volk (talk) 14:06, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
:hello! First of all, it was you who renamed the page several times without any discussion. Transliteration of Belarusian names is different from Belarusian latin alphabet, see BGN/PCGN_romanization_of_Belarusian ↗. The fact that some English translations use Russian transliteration doesn't change the fact that his name can be written differently using Belarusian romanization; it's a bit ironic that the name of the Mova's author is Russified. But go ahead, move the page if you want, I wouldn't revert again. Artem.G (talk) 15:36, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
::Hello Artem! I'm sorry if I seem impolite - I did'n mean it! I support you very much in the issue of Belarusization. My main argument is to use in this particular case the same spelling of first and last name in the English-language page as in English-language publications, which can be useful both for author and potential readers in these countries - and it is good to expand the audience of Belarusian authors, after all. (if we use the romanization, the link to which you sent, our author would be Viktar Martsinovich - that is, the spelling variants are really very different, and the question of the one ultimately correct is really very difficult). Stepnoj Volk (talk) 14:38, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
:::yeah, makes sense. Go ahead, but please keep your corrected romanization in the article as well. I don't remember why I chose that transliteration, and apparently it's wrong. thanks for correction. Artem.G (talk) 15:17, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
::::Ok, thank you very much! Stepnoj Volk (talk) 15:57, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

JPL director images
Hello!
Thank you for improving the list of JPL directors ↗ by finding better photos for William Hayward Pickering ↗ and Dave Gallagher! Would it be possible for you to locate better photos for Louis Dunn ↗? The ones that are on Wikimedia Commons looks awful. Would it be possible for you to locate photos for Larry D. James ↗, Lew Allen, Jr. ↗, and Charles Terhune Jr. ↗ in civilian clothes when they worked for NASA and not the Air Force? If you are able to do any of this, the table of JPL directors would look awlsome!
FYI, I have created (or improved) director tables for other NASA facilities, such as Kennedy ↗, Johnson ↗, Goddard ↗, Marshall ↗, Stennis ↗, and Ames Research Center#List of center directors ↗. The director tables for those NASA facilities could use more photos. I have yet to start work on Armstrong, Glenn, or Langley since looking for citations takes time.
Thanks. -- 96.82.59.129 ↗ (talk) 01:57, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Question
I've noticed your name floating around on edits for a few space-related propulsion articles over time -- I was wondering, if you had time or interest, or knew any editors that may be interested.
This thing:
It's been on my mental to-do for a while but it's a huge project, and I wanted to get mosaic effect ↗ live and buttoned down first (I stil have more than 60~ sources to get through on that/on talk).
If nothing else, I'd be curious for your perspective on what I'm going for--a total re-write of field propulsion ↗ on the side, then I would port over the content from my draft section by section to the live article for tidyness.
I was going for:
# History.
# What it actually is, and is defined as, according to the actual SMEs in the field.
# Background/dip into the sciences.
# All the various tech/science platforms that are squarely in the wheelhouse of the definition -- a paragraph or two max on each.
# The "close to field propulsion" stuff at the bottom, that is often identified as such.
Similar structurallly to what I did with mosaic effect ↗, actually, if you want to see how that one looks. But each sub-section on field propulsion ↗ would be smaller than what is on mosaic.
No hurry at all, if interested! -- Very Polite Person (talk) 22:01, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
:hi {{u|Very Polite Person}}! interesting topic, though I don't think I know anything about it. If you need any kind of a review, will be happy to read through your draft/published article. Artem.G (talk) 14:49, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
::Thanks Artem! I had spent some time looking at histories of related articles (more than I want to admit) trying to find any overlap in users who were active that seemed to be in the realm of interest/activity, and it was remarkably thin except for one guy who had apparently 50+ sock accounts 15 years or something years ago, you (just your edit habits I guess), one other person who seems to... not like the topic, and me. Thank you for the counter-offer. :)
::Also thanks for the links on the image link values... I actually thought that was OK. My bad. -- Very Polite Person (talk) 15:07, 31 July 2025 (UTC)

Bohr and Reines
You reverted both these from being included in Category:People from Los Alamos, New Mexico. They weren't ''born'' there obviously, but absolutely were resident during the Manhattan Project - as were about half of the other people listed in that Category, including Fermi, Feynman, Teller etc. (I'd have added Robert Oppenheimer as well, but his page currently has limited access - although his wife Kitty was already there). Do you want to take all of these down as well? Kokopelli-UK (talk) 16:37, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
:There is a more appropriate and descriptive category, :Category:Los Alamos National Laboratory personnel ↗, though I'll not revert everything. Artem.G (talk) 18:08, 23 October 2025 (UTC)

Maintenance reverting
Greetings, you reverted an edit that added an "External link" tag to the article Drake equation ↗. I really appreciate the offer of collaboration, which is not that common in better-classed articles. However, the purpose of maintenance tags is to call attention to issues. With 1,266 editors and 660 watchers, it gives others the chance to see issues and possibly help, especially when involved editors are more familiar with the article, so more knowledgeable in that area. Maintenance tags are not subject to BRD ↗ and should really not be indiscriminately removed without resolution, or at least discussion "before" removal. One pet peeve I have is articles that have been assigned to a classification not deserving. Sometimes, a review just has not been performed, and incremental edits create an issue. If I am performing maintenance in an area you work in, I am 100% open to any discussion or solution that resolves any issue.
:However, since I am apparently in an area where you are active, going forward, I will only leave talk page notes on any perceived issues and review them later.
:I periodically review my list of actions, but stopping to fix every issue I find would not always be practicable. Sometimes I just leave a note with no action, and sometimes it is taken care of. Thank you for your interaction, and please feel free to contact me anytime you desire. Thank you, -- Otr500 (talk) 16:48, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

The Core Contest returns
The Core Contest ↗—Wikipedia's most exciting contest—returns again this year from April 15 to May 31. The goal: to improve vital ↗ or other core articles, with a focus on those in the worst state of disrepair. Editing can be done individually, but in the past groups have also successfully competed. There is {{GBP|300}} of prize money divided among editors who provide the "best additive encyclopedic value". '''Signups are open now ↗'''. Cheers from the judges, Femke, Casliber, Aza24.
<small>If you wish to start or stop receiving news about The Core Contest, please add or remove yourself from the delivery list ↗.</small>

Evan Spiegel
The photo you added to Evan Spiegel ↗ infobox is not him but a journalist. See: User talk: ~2026-26144-93 and Wired story ↗ — <span id="Super-Magician" class="plainlinks" style="color:#002bb8">Super-Magician (talk <small>•</small> contribs ↗ <small>•</small> <span style="color:#002bb8">count</span> ↗)</span> 10:29, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:Oh my. Thanks for correction! He writes that he reached out to me on the talk page, but I can't see his message. I'm sorry if it caused much trouble for him, hope Maxwell will see it and accept my apologies. Will open a deletion request on commons for the photo. I uploaded it to the commons because Google images showed it to me as a photo of Spiegel, not because I wanted to prank Maxwell. Artem.G (talk) 10:54, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
::I'm having some difficulty assuming good faith on this one. Another editor reverted your photo replacement and put a clear edit summary stating the pic you put was not one of Spiegel. You either didn't bother reading the edit summary or you read it and dismissed it; you undid that editor's correction and put a haughty, snotty, high-handed, scornful, scoldy edit summary to the effect of "Naw, newer pic is better. Take it to the talk page if you must".
::Even if that had been appropriate behavior on your part (it wasn't), it was equally inappropriate of you to just thoughtlessly, trust Google without bothering to put any editorial effort into it -- or, y'know, using your own damn eyes and seeing the glaringly obvious. No, you just threw in a random pic and flung smugness at someone making a whole lot better and more genuine effort than yours.
::And that's assuming it was just lazy carelessness. Despite your show of contrition here, it looks to me like a childish prank blew up in your face the second time you did it the same way, on the same article, months apart.
::But "if we must" (to borrow your phrase) assume good faith, then fine: learn from your mistake, as it were, and be better going forward. ~2026-26673-09 ↗ (talk) 17:35, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::Like it or not, there are many IP editors who are vandals. Before today I had no idea who you were, so the prank of a person who I didn't even know existed is just weird. But I agree that I didn't thoroughly check the photo and assumed Google Images identification was correct. Artem.G (talk) 18:39, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
::::And you agree you failed to read the edit summary before blithely reverting? ~2026-26673-09 ↗ (talk) 18:48, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
:::It seems quite clear to me that this was an honest mistake. He's a very experienced editor who's been here since 2011, and he's made 34,570 edits during that time. It's impossible not to make any mistakes across that many edits, and I really doubt he would intentionally pull a prank like you're suggesting. Cadddr (talk) 04:41, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
:::: Indeed. {{ping|~2026-26673-09}} Artem is a good editor who just made a mistake, and you must AGF. Shit happens, so be kinder. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 11:03, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
::::That. And if Maxwell Zeff had posted on the right talkpage, this might have resolved a little quicker. But it worked out anyway. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:26, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
::It seems like he accidentally posted it on the wrong user's talk page, which is why you didn't see it. Cadddr (talk) 04:29, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
:I'm slightly reminded of the Emily St. John Mandel ↗ case:https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64033028 ↗. Artem.G, Help:Archiving (plain and simple) ↗ could be a good idea for this talkpage. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:10, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
:: Yes, Emily's case is somewhat similar. I remember that one. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 11:05, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for support, Valjean, Gråbergs Gråa Sång, and Cadddr! As I said, I was wrong, and I'm sorry that it disturbed Maxwell. Artem.G (talk) 15:20, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
:I just read the second comment on the ''Wired'' article, so I obviously withdraw my support.{{sarcasm}} Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:32, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
::Wow, that comment is something.
::That reminds me, maybe someone should contact ''Wired'' to let them know that Artem had no way of knowing that Zeff had tried to reach out, since it was on the wrong talk page. Even if Artem isn't bothered by the article, I'm sure ''Wired'' wouldn't want their story to have a misleading/inaccurate statement. I might try to do that later today if no one else has. (I already made a comment at User talk:~2026-26144-93, but who knows whether the author will see that.) Cadddr (talk) 17:45, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
:::@Stephenbharrison, mail Maxwell Zeff ↗ for us, will you? ;-)
:::He wrote ''"I decided to create a Wikipedia account and reach out to Artem G on the talk page. ↗"'', but if so, it seems he didn't log in and he wrote in the wrong place:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:~2026-26144-93 ↗ Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:30, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
:::I just sent him a message on Signal. But given it’s 3-4 days later, I assume someone already reached him? Jenny8lee (talk) 00:31, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
::::I didn't end up trying to contact him last night, so thank you. Cadddr (talk) 01:48, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
::::I suppose he might listen to a ''New York Times'' reporter too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:17, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::I considered writing something about this. Pointing out that Zeff wrote on the wrong page. @Artem.G would you be comfortable if I wrote about this on my Substack? I also reached out to Zeff on LinkedIn (which is how i learned about this) but he hasn't responded. My Substack doesn't have the readership of the NYT or @Stephenbharrison but it's an angle at least? Dflovett (talk) 14:11, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::well, sure, go ahead. I have nothing against Maxwell, I'm sure he was really annoyed by this incident, but his attempt to contact me was half-done, and I was sure that I reverted a vandal. It seems no harm was done. Maxwell received free publicity and an article about himself on Wired, showed I was wrong to rely on Google Images, and corrected the Spiegel article. Win-win. Artem.G (talk) 14:23, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::yeah I'm going to frame it as an innocent mistake on both your part and his, because that's what the entire thing seems to be. Dflovett (talk) 14:30, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::::I agree. Cadddr (talk) 15:03, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Possibly more ''amused'', but I can't know that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:39, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::::Hey there @Artem.G @Gråbergs Gråa Sång @Cadddr @Jenny8lee @Valjean @Super-Magician - I hope you don't all mind the mass tagging, but wanted to let you all know that I emailed Maxwell Zeff and heard back. He was super gracious and apologetic about the entire thing. He feels bad about writing on the wrong talk page and is going to try to get his editor to update the article. He also seems to have no hard feelings about any of it! Dflovett (talk) 01:19, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
:::@Cadddr I have tried reaching out to Zeff at Wired but haven't heard back yet. I am thinking about writing about this publicly. Dflovett (talk) 14:19, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
::::@Dflovett And you did. Thanks for footnote 5! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:22, 7 May 2026 (UTC)
Comments when reverting
Hey there! I saw you referred to this ↗ IP's edit as spam. Just want to say that people unfamiliar with this site's working (or ones that are just too young to understand) may accidentally type out messages like this, and it can be disheartening to receive such revert summaries. I recommend simply using ''WP:NOTFORUM ↗'' or ''test edit'' to describe such edits, as these two do not come with any implied intention towards the reverted editor.
<small>(Unless I was missing something, e.g., that the article's talk is under persistent disruption).</small>
Thanks for patrolling, though. :) 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 16:34, 15 May 2026 (UTC)
