New page reviewer granted

right|80px ↗
Hi Cl3phact0. Your account has been added to the "<code>New page reviewers</code>" user group. Please check back at the permissions page ↗ in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled ↗, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the '''New Pages Feed''' ↗. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you '''must''' read the tutorial at New Pages Review ↗, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy ↗. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the '''new page reviewer talk page''' ↗ or ask via the NPP Discord ↗. In addition, please remember:

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies ↗. —&nbsp;Ingenuity&nbsp;(talk&nbsp;•&nbsp;contribs ↗) 16:36, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

Proposed deletion ↗ of :Giorgia Zanellato ↗

left|link=|alt=Notice|48px| ↗

The article :Giorgia Zanellato ↗ has been proposed for deletion ↗&#32;because of the following concern:
<blockquote>'''not notable person'''</blockquote>

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons ↗.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary ↗ or on the article's talk page ↗.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process ↗, but other deletion process ↗es exist. In particular, the speedy deletion ↗ process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion ↗ allows discussion to reach consensus ↗ for deletion.<!-- Template:Proposed deletion notify --> PakisOne (talk) 11:53, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Valentine DYK

I want to congratulate you on the successful Olivetti Valentine ↗ DYK link -- I don't know which is more challenging: putting together a good Wikipedia article or getting an article successfully into DYK. I have a nagging disappointment that I did not think to time all of this so it could hit DYK on Valentine's day! Years ago I had nominated many articles successfully for DYK, but found the process somewhat brutal, with a tendency to take the rigorous dissection of the articles... personally. I tend to take an arms-length approach, now, to DYK -- though I can't wait to see the number of pageviews, lol. I appreciate your hopping onto the article after I started major edits, helping form it, and especially doing so in a way that was constructive and collaborative. The next time I expand an article, I may tag you, as you understand the process well and can make impacts in a professional and friendly way. It's hilarious that after all the work and effort put in to polishing that article, the first sentence carried a typo on the article name -- until it was released to DYK! It takes a village. Bravo and congrats. 842U (talk) 10:50, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

:Thanks to you for putting together a fascinating little gem of an article! It does an excellent job of highlighting this curious and iconic design, as well as framing its historical context and enduring significance – and yes, utterly hilarious that it took 15K+ pairs of eyes ↗ to spot that ''Valentine'' was misspelt in the first line of the lead. Apart from the satisfaction of seeing a good article so widely read, this is the best rationale I can think of for enduring any inherent stress of the DYK process itself. Also, tag at will. I'm happy to look at anything you'd like. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:55, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Subject: Request to Consider Creating an Article for "AVL List"

Dear Cl3phact0,
I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to suggest the creation of an article for AVL List GmbH, an internationally significant company that currently lacks representation on the English Wikipedia. Here is a summary of the reasons why I believe this topic meets Wikipedia’s notability criteria:

Global Importance in Automotive and Engineering Sectors:
AVL List GmbH is one of the largest independent companies in the world specializing in the development, simulation, and testing of powertrain systems. This includes work on internal combustion engines, electric and hybrid powertrains, and related technologies. The company plays a critical role in the automotive industry's transition to sustainable mobility.

Proven Notability:
AVL List has been extensively covered in reliable, secondary sources. These include industry reports, news articles in respected publications (e.g., Automotive News, Forbes), and research collaborations documented in academic journals. Additionally, AVL’s innovations in simulation technologies and its contributions to engineering fields have been widely recognized.

Existing Coverage in Other Languages:
AVL List already has a detailed and well-sourced article on the German Wikipedia ([link to the article]). Expanding its presence to the English Wikipedia would benefit a global audience and align with the goal of making knowledge accessible across linguistic boundaries.

Alignment with Wikipedia’s Purpose:
The absence of an English article for a company of AVL’s stature creates a notable gap in Wikipedia’s coverage of the automotive and engineering domains. Including this article would provide balanced and well-referenced information for researchers, engineers, students, and other interested parties.

I am happy to provide a draft article or additional resources to support the creation of this page. My draft would adhere strictly to Wikipedia’s neutrality and verifiability guidelines, ensuring that the article is factual, balanced, and well-sourced.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. Please let me know if you would be open to reviewing a draft or if you need further details regarding the topic.

Best regards,
Norbert Adam NorbertAdam1980 (talk) 10:10, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

:I agree with you that {{ill|AVL List|de}} (wikidata:Q300157 ↗) should be included in English Wikipedia. Thank you for highlighting this omission. I've made a few minor edits to the related articles for Hans List ↗ and Helmut List ↗, and will also create a blank Draft in order to get this started. I see no reason why you can't then go ahead and write the bulk of the draft text (as you suggest), as long as you follow the conflict of interest ↗ rules and other relevant guidelines concerning sources ↗ for translations, etc. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:40, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
:PS: There was a previous abandoned draft ↗ for AVL List. I have requested its undeletion here ↗. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:55, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

::Hello CI3phact0,
::I just made up the new draft here ↗ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVL_List) hoping it is meeting all requirements. I really did emphasis on finding as many sources as possible. Please just tell me if there is anything missing or to extensive or not aligning Wikipedia´s rules.
::Thanks a lot, NorbertAdam1980 NorbertAdam1980 (talk) 14:57, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
:::You may have better results if you begin with the existing Draft:AVL List ↗, and then, when ready, use the "Submit the draft for review!" button (please ping me too). Citing reliable sources will be necessary for the article to be accepted. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 12:45, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

How on earth is adding a referenced quotation by a person "an opinion"? How on earth is it not controversial for one of the leading AI executives to say that AI will replace jobs that maybe shouldn't have existed in the first place? These AI executives decided to design their LLMs in such a way that they stand the highest chance of replacing people's jobs.
They've stolen all of humanity's Internet contributions without anyone's consent in order to enrich themselves by making as many people as possible unemployed and poor. If you don't think that's controversial, buy a new dictionary. <!-- Template:Unsigned IP --><small class="autosigned">—&nbsp;Preceding unsigned ↗ comment added by 77.98.111.156 ↗ (talk) </small>

Bill Ackman

Hello Cl3phact0, nice to meet you. I'm hoping that as a participant in WP:BIOGRAPHY ↗ you'd be willing to assist at Bill Ackman ↗. My COI keeps me from editing directly so I have posted my proposed changes here: Talk:Bill Ackman#Philanthropy section ↗. As you'll see, the Philanthropy section of the article gives too much attention and weight to an arbitrary selection of organizations, forming an inaccurate picture of Ackman's giving history and misleadingly suggesting that these groups benefited disproportionately from Ackman's philanthropy. Instead of dedicating a paragraph to every organization that Ackman gave to and is documented in RS - which would make the Philanthropy section inordinately long - I am proposing dedicated sentences or paragraphs only for philanthropy that was particularly significant in the larger context of Ackman's years of involvement in philanthropy. The consolidated list I proposed includes some of the more prominent grantees and removes the less noteworthy details, e.g. that Ackman was honored at a gala once for an organization he supported.

An initial discussion with a different editor had gotten underway, but he went on a wikibreak before we reached conclusions or implemented changes. I look forward to hearing from you - thank you for your time and help. FMatPSCM (talk) 14:49, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

Red link vs. Light blue link

I appreciate the question, Clephacto. It's more of a matter "red vs. light blue", the color that comes up. Either way, they "help flag missing articles that we might want to create", with the caveat "though we probably never will"). The difference is that those ugly red links are usually a stop sign, a deterrent to looking any further, because they're more commonly used to go to a message that says "page does not exist", which was okay when Wikipedia didn't offer to translate the page. At worst, the more modern way links to a page in another language, and an offer to translate it into English. For the reader, red-links are an interruption to smooth reading, designed to be skipped over rather than to invite volunteers to create a page. I would wager that more articles will be created by taking someone directly to another Wikipedia than by suggesting that there's nothing at all.Mandsford 14:33, 19 February 2025 (UTC)

:Thank you. Please see response on your Talk page (with original question). Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 18:25, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
:::Thank you, Clephacto. On the first point, it's clear that when H:FOREIGNLINK was written, the ill interlanguage linke was the only way to link a foreign article. One of the problems with relying on the minor guidelines as gospel is that they tend not to get updated as new developments are made. Clicking upon Adolphe d'Assier ↗ takes you straight to the article. Clicking on the text of {{ill|Adolphe d'Assier|fr}} takes you to "This page does not exist". If the average reader happens to notice the tiny box that says "[fr]", then, and only then, does it lead to an article written in French. It's the same destination, but with a less obvious way than clicking on Adolphe d'Assier ↗. The "ill" method made sense in 2001 when it was all that there was, but it's flawed and superseded that something better that was created for Wikipedia. On the second point, I could go into more detail about machine translation, but that has improved in the last 24 years as well. Again, the guideline hasn't changed with the times.Mandsford 20:22, 23 February 2025 (UTC)

"update template"

Could you explain why you're doing that ↗? Nikkimaria (talk) 04:17, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

:Doing what? Cl3phact0 (talk) 07:06, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

::Making the edit shown in the diff provided? Nikkimaria (talk) 13:59, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
:::You've lost me (which is becoming thematic). Is there a rule that prohibits, or a reason not to refresh the date on a template that one previously placed (especially when that template has been updated itself)? -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 14:22, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

::::I'm not aware of a concrete rule against it, but it seems counterproductive. Why would you want to do that? If the template changes it will automatically update on the page without such an action. Nikkimaria (talk) 17:44, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::I guess the logic was that on the off-chance that someone who is (a) in a position to add photographs of the subject and/or her work and (b) doesn't know how to do so (c) might be watching the article for changes – thus leading to (d) improvement of this encyclopaedia (per WP:1Q ↗). Long shot, no doubt, yet relatively low-cost, so probably worth taking a punt. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 18:01, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

Clamshell

Hey there. Just wanted to comment on one thing, on clamshell design you changed the top image to one showing the Moto MicroTAC as an example of clamshell. But I'm not sure that would be the best example? Because clamshell comes from clam ↗ and the design of a typical 'flip phone' conforms more to that opening mechanism than the MicroTac's (which is backwards you could say). I'm not very sure clamshell has often been applied either to refer to the MicroTac style. Knoxmann (talk) 02:17, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

:As a form factor, "clamshell" refers to many design typologies, not just phones, of course (e.g., packaging ↗, computers ↗ and other electronic devices ↗, etc. ↗). With regard to "flip phones", the three most significant milestones historically seem to be the StarTrek Communcator ↗ (1960s), the Grillo telephone ↗ (late 1960s through the 1970s), and the MicroTac ↗ (mid-1980s). Obviously there are hundreds (if not thousands) of phone designs that use this form factor. Most are forgettable and historically unremarkable. If you prefer a more symmetrical example to the MircoTac, then the StarTac ↗ would seem to be a good choice. I have no problem with this, although I would like to preserve the MicroTac photos in the Gallery section as an "early example". The humble clam may actually be the least ambiguous choice for our top image in this case (see most recent edit). -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 05:09, 23 May 2025 (UTC)<br>PS: Perhaps this discussion should be moved to the Talk page ↗ of the article itself. Mobile phones sales

Hello. Because you've made many good edits to some clamshell articles I recently improved, I thought you might be interested in this:

Some content on the article List of best-selling mobile phones ↗ has always been a bit fishy. Well I then decided to look further into it and discovered at least 2 major inaccuracies of incorrect/fake sales figures that originated ''here'' on Wikipedia, and went completely unchecked for years, and has since made its way to other media outlets!

This was quite shocking to me. I have written it all just now on Talk:List of best-selling mobile phones ↗ if you take a look. This is a serious issue but I have no clue how to escalate it or let other people know. I wonder if you have any input or if you are able to let admins or other important Wikipedia users know. June 2025

30px|alt=Stop icon ↗ Your recent editing history at :Wikipedia talk:Unusual biographical images ↗ shows that you are currently engaged in an '''edit war ↗'''; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the '''talk page ↗''' to work toward making a version that represents consensus ↗ among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done ↗. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard ↗ or seek dispute resolution ↗. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection ↗.

'''Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing ↗'''&mdash;especially if you violate the three-revert rule ↗, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts ↗ on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring&mdash;'''even if you do not violate the three-revert rule'''&mdash;should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.<!-- Template:uw-3rr --> <span style="color:black">'''—'''</span><span style="color:black">''Fortuna''</span> ↗, <span style="color:#8B0000">imperatrix</span> 13:50, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

:I certainly do not intend to continue. No thanks! I've had quite enough. In fact, the project in question has essentially become an unwelcoming, hostile waste of time as the pattern of aggressive reverts has amplified (alas, I thought I could contribute something valuable, and put in quite a lot of work with that objective). Having never had to contend with quite this level of rude and aggressive behaviour here, I'm not sure exactly how this works. Will the other editor involved (who already made 3 reverts of the work in question) be similarly reprimanded? I had considered reporting the behaviour, but really didn't think it worth the stress. Are there other steps that should (or shouldn't) be taken in this situation? Thank you, Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:53, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
:{{ping|Fortuna imperatrix mundi}} I don't actually understand why this warning message was placed here and not on the talk page of the editor who instigated the "edit war" (without even making an sincere effort to explain their objection to my work or reach a consensus in the first place), and who '''actually made three reverts''' in a row. I'm a bit confused about this whole thing and I find it quite unsettling. Is this a mistake or am I misunderstanding something? Thanks, Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:16, 12 June 2025 (UTC)

I did not say here, there, or in any other discussion on Wikipedia for that matter, that I don't want people to provide more or less references. I asked if the sources were relevant, and if they weren't, to consider removing them. I also said, if they were important to you (as you then go on to argue later), then to bundle them instead. The only outcome that might merit regrets or reproach would be the whole thing swirling down the drain on account of a gurgling death-spiral of logical {{tl|Fallacies}}, soapboxing (e.g., essays posing as policy; opinions cast as rules and the like) propping-up non-policy based arguments (some of which, in my view, are just plain ''non compos mentis'' "to boot" – again, we circle back to opinions) and leading to slap-dash, abrupt DYK-interruptus ↗. I also believe that an apology is owed ''by'' (not to) Launchballer (and Rjjiii as well, for that matter) to everyone who "put in much time and effort" and good faith trying to improve both this misbegotten and ill-fated nom – and of course, this encyclopaedia itself "to boot" (per WP:1Q ↗ and WP:IAR ↗). In my view, this is all a ridiculous, petty, and humourless display of WP:BUREAUCRACY ↗ that mostly succeeded in dis-improving Wikipedia by fiat or cabal ↗ "to boot" (although I suppose incrementally improving an article that presented no "real" impediment for DYK inclusion is some small consolation). (WP:DYKTIMEOUT ↗ says {{tq|if a nomination timed out while it was waiting for a review or a re-review, consider reviewing the nomination rather than rejecting it}}), they are highly experienced at DYK, way more so than I am; or {{oldid|Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Consort Gallery|1318044112|this}}, in which I simply stated the truth (perhaps more bluntly than in the previous example, but certianly not with any malice or ill-intent) – which is that a rash judgment was made (which, as you point out, was a "mistake"), and it made me feel very unwelcome an disrespected.
:::::::::::We were right in the middle of fixing-up the last requests that ''you'' made re: "over quotation". Cunard mercifully bullet pointed the quotes that most needed attention. I spent hours re-drafting the article over the weekend so we could get it over the line. They (including {{u|Rjjiii}}) have now made the '''same mistake twice''' (vis-à-vis WP:DYKTIMEOUT application) to "reject" the nom, ignoring the project’s own guidelines and stated purpose. There's obviously a misunderstanding, but it surely did NOT merit depriving our readers of a perfectly fine DYK ("Great job on the article and nice hooks to boot", in your <s>fist</s> ''first'' words on the matter), or sanctioning me by rejecting the nom. Ouch.
:::::::::::So, unless you're going to help try to '''{{oldid|Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Consort Gallery|1318163301|undo this}}''' and '''{{oldid|Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Consort Gallery|1318167675|this}}''' (i.e., the '''second''' and '''third''' WP:DYKTIMEOUT mistakes), there's really not much more about this sad affair for us to discuss. Since it seems that that is not your intention or why you came back here, you are out of line – in which case, please find somebody else to pick on. It's shameful the way that this DYK ↗ unfolded, and in my view, you are largely to blame. This whole thing is a sad travesty, an abuse of good faith, and it erodes my trust in the project (and it's a huge waste of time to boot). You should be ashamed. Please stop harassing me and please stop wasting everyone's time. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 05:46, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::::Hello Cl3phact0. My reading of that nom is not that it was "waiting for a review" but that it had been reviewed two or three times. My intention with the long close was to clear up confusion that I saw in the discussion there. If that came off as "petty" or bureaucratic then it did not work, and you have my apologies if it only made a bad situation worse. <span style="font-variant:small-caps;">Rjjiii</span> (talk) 09:54, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
:::::::::::::Thanks for taking the time to reply and to look at this (what's a little more time at this point, after all)! The nom was ''very much'' in the middle of being reviewed and amended, in the works, etc. (i.e., "waiting for a review"), so when Launchballer marked it "rejected", it seemed like an obvious error... so I tried to fix it. I thought this was clear in the edit summary (see above). Now, maybe rvts are not a thing <s>here</s> ''at DYK''? I'm still pretty new in <s>this</s> ''that'' corner of the wiki-playground, so, new kid in town, in spite of having done a few (well, 7 actually, or 8 if this one goes through). Anyhow, it was nearly done, so it really felt like getting smacked (for... nothing more than trying to do a good job). -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 11:05, 23 October 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::::::I never said I was at odds with you. I said "we are at odds with each other", and we still are. You are reading a lot into that small phrase. All it means is that we disagree. Take a moment to step back and approach this after taking a break for a few days. You might find that you have a fresh perspective. I notice that in a lot of your replies here and elsewhere, you constantly focus on you, and how this or that makes you feel, how you feel maligned, how you feel upset, how you feel. But I don't see you taking into account how others feel or what they say or believe. Believe me when I tell you this, but I had no idea you were King (or Queen) of Wikipedia. Now that you have corrected me on this point, I wish to alert your majesty that I am about to make my departure. But before I do, I wish to inform your majesty that this kind of editing ↗ is exactly what you were taken to task for at the DYK. To see that you have learned nothing and have reverted back to excessive quoting and citations does not bode well for future DYKs. This is exactly the kind of WP:IDHT ↗ behavior that is going to get you in trouble. Viriditas (talk) 01:31, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
{{od|15}}This now seems to me like a clear pattern of disingenuous, spiteful, and vindictive editing (in a DYK nom that started with "{{oldid|Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Consort Gallery|1315640063|Great job on the article and nice hooks to boot}}", followed by a gaslighting psyco-drama rollercoaster ride), coupled with Talk page hounding, Draft article stalking, name calling, pontificating directives and ultimata (and implicit threats like "does not bode well" and "going to get you in trouble" to boot). What is wrong? Are you okay? Do what you ''need'' to do to resolve any problems you ''may'' have – just PLEASE don't take it out other people (here or anywhere else). It comes off as arrogant, harassing, taunting, and frankly bully-like behaviour (though I sincerely hope that is not be your intent), and PLEASE stop harassing me. I did nothing ''to'' you and I can't do anything ''for'' you. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:45, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

DYK discussion

Hi, you pinged me about your "Tangential discussion re: DYK backlog" section. I suggest that you start a new thread at the bottom of the page about "DYK backlog", as that is likely to get more attention. You could bullet "Observations" and "Questions" to highlight the latter. I personally don't think there are any easy answers as the project operates by consensus. My view of the recent discussion is that everybody opposed changes which make it harder for them to do what they want to do, so if you add up the opinions you get opposition to any change at all. TSventon (talk) 14:09, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

:Sorry, was that bad form (pinging you in there)? If so, my apologies! I thought that as you gave me the link, it was the right thing to do.
:To your point, I suppose that it's only human nature to oppose changes which make it harder for one do what one wants to do, right? No real surprise in that. The other observation I'd make is that the whole review/QPQ process seems a bit random (as the higher-ups seem to pretty much do it all over again to their taste anyhow – often effectively reversing and rendering pointless the QPQ reviews that are done by the hoi polloi nominators). It's a bit like re-writing one's assistant's correspondence because they didn't do it the way you would. Not super-efficient to hire someone to free-up bandwidth and then turn around and do their job anyhow.
:As for the rest, let's give it a little more time. Notwithstanding your point about backlogs (to which I certainly didn't mean to unwittingly add), I'm rather disappointed and a tad disillusioned at the moment. That Prince Consort Gallery ↗ article deserves a fresh, unbiased review (especially if you factor this nonsense ↗ into the equation). It was B-Rated and >90% {{Y}} marks when it got unceremoniously {{oldid|Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Consort Gallery|1318040897|yeeted}}. Not cool. Thanks again for the link. Fascinating creatures, we humans. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:39, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
::Hi, I mentioned the ping to explain that I looked at your post when you pinged me, not as a complaint. And of course it is fine if you disagree with my advice.
::I don't think that regular prep builders and admins are redoing the whole review, but I am not a regular prep builder or an admin. RoySmith has said he spends about 30 minutes on reviewing a prep set unless there are problems, and I would hope that the original reviewers spent longer than 3 minutes per article.
::Of course I have my own bias, which you have probably noticed. (I sympathise with the prep builders and admins as they are helping other editors get their content onto the main page.) The selfish aspect is that I want DYK to be around when I next have an article I want to share with the world. TSventon (talk) 16:14, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
:::{{tq|3 minutes per article}}!!! I takes me ''hours'' to do a review. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:21, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
:::This ↗ (and this ↗) is currently happening with an reviewed/approved DYK at the prep level. Maybe I missed something, but it seems like a lot of going in circles (and way above and beyond the call of duty) if you look at the letter of what's actually written in the DYK guidelines. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:42, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
:::{{tq|I want DYK to be around}} – as do I. It's a fantastic part of the overall project. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:52, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
:I didn’t see this thread before I commented earlier, but I definitely support TSventon’s suggestion to move the conversation to a fresh section at the bottom of WT:DYK ↗. A dedicated thread will make it obvious that this is a broader discussion rather than a comment on any single nomination, which may encourage more people to weigh in without feeling like they’re stepping into an existing dispute. Zzz plant (talk) 17:03, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
::I'm fine with separating the discussion(s) if you both feel that this is more likely to attract constructive dialogue (omertà comes to mind, but that's just my dark sense of humour). Let's start a new "DYK backlog" thread with curtesy links between the two (probably best not to make a wikitext hash faffing about trying to move the current sub-thread text and links). Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 18:23, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
::I've hived the discussion off into a new thread ↗ (as you've no doubt seen by now). Let's hope I've not made an unholy mess of anything or inadvertently offended anyone's sensibilities or clumsily knocked over some sacrosanct holy cow in the ''sanctum sanctorum omnium scientium''. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:45, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
:::I have moved the new thread to the bottom of the talk page as I think it will be more visible there. TSventon (talk) 13:10, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
::::Hi, responses to some of your (Cl3phact0's) earlier comments. You say that what admin and prep builders do is {{tq|a bit like re-writing one's assistant's correspondence because they didn't do it the way you would.}} An assistant in an office is selected to do a job and can be fired if they do it badly. Wikipedia editors select themselves and vary in competence (which is inefficient, but still cheaper than paying experts to write articles). Also the QPQ system means that a large number of editors do reviews and some will be better than others.
::::There is a lot of going round in circles, but the ASEAN example ↗ is from a new template editor checking one of his first queues, so it is reasonable for them to ask questions. TSventon (talk) 14:40, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
:::::Perhaps the example I used wasn't the most adept. What I'm getting at is that if we tighten-up the QPQ process (e.g., example templates from AfC and NPP) and make it more likely that when the approved/promoted DYKs get to the folks doing the prep and queue work (DYK admins), they'll be less likelihood that anything needs to be re-done. The way it is now, it's almost as if the whole QPQ thing is just a pre-review that gets the nomination further downstream for a re-review. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:04, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
::::::I think "just a pre-review" is an exaggeration, looking at bottom of the talk page Queue 1 has one query, Queue 2 has two and Prep 3 has three (hopefully that isn't a trend). TSventon (talk) 13:01, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
:::::::I've not seen any queues that are put together with straight-up, unrevised, unchallenged, un re-reviewed QPQ reviews. There seems to be a lot of to-ing and fro-ing as a matter of routine (with QPQ approved, promoted noms getting sent back to the start like a game of Snakes and ladders ↗). It this could be reduced, the time-savings would be notable. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 15:58, 1 December 2025 (UTC)

Helping at DYK

Hi, I thought I would start a new section. Thank you for your offer to help at DYK, I think that the stages are generally, start by making nominations (tick), get experience of doing reviews (started), build some preps and then ask for the template editor ↗ permission to move preps to queues.

I don't know how much reviewing experience you have, but I saw that you started a review of Template:Did you know nominations/Wisaksono Wirjodihardjo ↗ in September. My feedback there would be that when you do an initial review you want to choose one of the ticks at Wikipedia:Did you know/Reviewer instructions ↗, if the nomination is too complicated you can leave a comment (marked Comment not review) or just leave the nomination for someone else. If you are not sure how to deal with the nomination you can ask at DYK talk, you are unlikely to get a timely response to questions like "not entirely sure if something in particular needs to be done in a case like this one. Please advise" on the nomination page. Also reading the Wikipedia:Did you know/Guidelines ↗ may help, there is a paragraph about asking the nominator for quotes and translations from offline or non-English sources, which I think was what was needed. I don't think that your work was wasted as it appears that Launchballer used your detailed review, but you seem to have done a lot of work that you could have asked the nominator to do. TSventon (talk) 14:29, 17 November 2025 (UTC)

:Here's another example ↗ where the best path to follow isn't clear. I have (thus far) refrained from doing "too much work" that the nom should theoretically be doing (i.e., editing the article directly). Frankly, it would be far simpler to just scotch the copyvio image and move the nom forward regardless (although, I'm loath to endure yet more DYK drama ↗). This is also another case in point where a flowchart like what we use for NPP/AFC would be rather handy. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:50, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

Hello Cl3phact0:

'''WikiProject Articles for creation ↗''' is holding a '''month long Backlog Drive ↗ in December!'''<br />
The goal of this drive is to '''reduce''' the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than half a month of outstanding reviews from the current 2+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 December 2025 through 31 December 2025.

You may find :Category:AfC pending submissions by age ↗ or other categories and sorting ↗ helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.<br />
There is a backlog of over {{Rounddown|{{formatnum:3000|R}}|-2}} pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:07, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

DYK

Hi, can you help me understand what on earth is going on? It's like I climbed the Faraway Tree and accidentally fell into Kafka's Circus Land. — Jonathanischoice (talk) 20:26, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

:"Kafka's Circus Land" – may I quote you? Oh, never mind, I just did.
:I've been trying to get my head around it too. Bonkers. I was going to just walk away after {{oldid|Template:Did you know nominations/Prince Consort Gallery|1318040897|this}}, but thought I'd have a poke around to see if maybe something could be done help improve the process (not having much luck with that, I'm afraid – and getting a fair bit of resistance to boot). Haven't given up, but getting mighty close. (The probability of my ever getting another DYK through is near zero at this point, no doubt.)
:It's really a shame, as DYK should be a fun thing to do. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 20:51, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
:PS: This ↗ is fascinating too. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 20:58, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
::If there's this much bullshit involved, then it should happen on a separate talk page like the GA process - i.e. Talk:Soprillo/DYK1 ↗ so it's all in one place. Honestly imagine what it's like to have short-term memory loss and trying to get a disability benefit by talking to seven different people on the phone none of whom read each other's notes. — Jonathanischoice (talk) 21:00, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
:::One would think that the purpose of the DYK review ↗ was exactly what you describe. Once the review is done, the nomination approved and closed (i.e., promoted, or whatever the correct terminology is in this case), that would be the last word (with the exception of cases where a significant error is spotted further downstream). It's ''reductio ad absurdum ↗'' as is. Kafka's Circus Land – to quote something I read somewhere. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 21:41, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
:After much ado, a glimmer of hope ↗ that we may yet see Soprillo ↗ play on the main stage. Guessing that the silence procedure ↗ is now the best exit from Kafka's Circus Land. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 07:20, 30 November 2025 (UTC)

AN

Hey, I noticed your interaction with another editor at AN. I know that sort of thing can be disheartening, especially when you're new. I wanted to say that I think your comment was reasonable disagreement. Sometimes it helps just to know perception isn't as one-sided as it can sometimes seen. <span style="color:mediumpurple">Clovermoss</span><span style="color:green">🍀</span> (talk) 16:37, 23 January 2026 (UTC)

:{{ping|Clovermoss}} Thanks for venturing all the way over here say that. Much appreciated! As a non-admin, I wasn't entirely certain it was within my purview (or even permitted) to chime-in at AN. I've spent an inordinate amount of time of late trying to get my head around how DYK works (and, at times, categorically ''doesn't'' work – in my view, of course), so I thought I might have a thing or two to add. As cliquish and cabalistic as the inner sanctum over there (at DYK, not AN) can seem (and it really does feel that way to an outsider at times), the idea of scrapping the whole project seems like a "cure is worse than the disease" solution if ever there was one. Anyhow, thanks again for the encouragement. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 18:49, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
::I agree with you and I don't think one has to have been around forever to deserve an opinion worthy of respect. I'm glad to hear you found my attempt to be sympathetic worthwhile. I agree with your opinion, but I also think there should be more room on Wikipedia for constructive disagreement. To be quite frank, I like it when people voice their opinions that go against the status quo, as long as they aren't attacking people who disagree with them.
::I was worried you might've been offended by my choice to use the word "new". I ended up using it based off my impression of your comment at AN, but you've been around for three years. That's quite a long time in a normal volunteer sense, even if it doesn't always seem that way to Wikipedians. I'm always learning new things about the project, but I'd say I picked up most of my "foundational" knowledge about how things worked within the first year or so.
::Anyways, if you ever need a friendly face, I'm around quite often. Not to brag, but I've been told I'm one of the nicest admins. 😅 <span style="color:mediumpurple">Clovermoss</span><span style="color:green">🍀</span> (talk) 13:53, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
:::Being "one of the nicest" of most anything earns some bragging rights in my book. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 17:15, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello Cl3phact0:

This month, February 2026, '''WikiProject Women in Green ↗''' is participating in the February 2026 GAN Backlog Drive ↗, in which we're aiming to review as many outstanding Good Article (GA) nominations about women and women's works as possible. If you want to help out, you can check out the project talk page ↗ for a list of nominations in need of review (including some WiG originals). If you haven't reviewed a GA nomination before, be sure to check out the reviewing instructions ↗ and guidelines ↗ and feel free to ask for a mentor ↗ to check your work.

We are also working together with a wikithon hosted on 5 February by Wikimedia UK, which will focus on writing and improving articles about women involved in sustainable development. If you want to join the event, feel free to sign up at the eventbrite page ↗; or if you would be interested in providing a 20-minute assessment and/or a full GA review of the submitted articles in the weeks following, put your name down on the project talk page ↗ for updates as the event progresses.

We hope to see you there!

Areaware ↗

Hi, based on your interest in industrial design, you might be interested in Areaware ↗. I made the mistake of putting the draft into mainspace which still had some LLM remnants. I also did contact them today and had a nice call explaining how to upload images to commons- they've sold tons of pieces I'm familiar with (I collect stuff and have a particular appreciation for for playful objects) and thought images would look nice integrated into the article. Now it's up for deletion and I've already been accused of being some kind of paid editor which is completely false. Thriley (talk) 19:01, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

Up your street?

Hi, Cl3phact0, how are you? Given the outstanding work you've done on various architect/designer pages (yes, it didn't go unnoticed!), I just wondered if this ↗ might be up your street at all? He has an entry in the ''Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani'', so I assume he's fully notable. I'm not interested enough to do anything about it myself, but thought I'd ask you just in case you are. In any case, thanks for all the good work, regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 20:37, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

:Alfredo d'Andrade (d:Q3611528 ↗) is clearly notable and we ought to have an article about him. I'll add this to my list and take a closer look. Thanks for bringing the matter to my attention. (Thanks also for the kind words!) Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 21:03, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

Consensus discussion on List of suicides ↗

Hi. Editors have having a discussion on whether to split this article into separate articles or keep it as one. Me and the other editors presented some arguments for and against in a section that isn't too big here ↗, and then the "surevy" of editors voicing their opinions is in a section below that, which is here ↗. Can you participate? I've been working very hard on this article since 2009, and would appreciate a wide swath of opinions. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 02:30, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Hello {{BASEPAGENAME}},

thumb|400px|New Page Review queue November 2025 - May 2026 ↗

'''Backlog update'''

At the time of this message, there are 15,282 articles and 32,951 redirects awaiting review.

After the January–February drive the article backlog was reduced to 15,179 articles and the redirect backlog to 19,053 respectively. Great job! However, both queues are growing rapidly and any additional reviews are highly appreciated.

'''2024 and 2025 NPP Awards'''

74px|left ↗{{no ping|JTtheOG}} was selected as the NPP reviewer of the year for both 2024 and 2025, for reviewing the most articles amongst all reviewers.
{{no ping|Hey man im josh}} and {{no ping|MPGuy2824}} won the Redirect Ninja Master Award for 2024 and 2025 respectively, for reviewing the most redirects.

Overall in 2024, one Platinum, two Gold, eight Silver, 12 Bronze and 45 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 66 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year. In 2025, one Platinum, ten Silver, 13 Bronze and 38 Iron Barnstars were awarded. Additionally, 38 reviewers got the NPP barnstar for doing more than 100 reviews through the year.

{{no ping|BoyTheKingCanDance}}, {{no ping|Rosiestep}}, {{no ping|SunDawn}}, and {{no ping|Vanderwaalforces}} were inducted into the NPP Hall of Fame ↗ for having two separate years of 2,000+ article reviews.

'''January–February backlog drive'''

The experimental two-month long backlog drive concluded with 183 reviewers patrolling over 27,761 articles and 35,309 redirects, earning over 36,836 points. Congratulations to {{no ping|JTtheOG}}, who achieved first place with 6,484.6 points in this drive.

'''May backlog drive'''

An article-only backlog drive is currently underway. We are hoping to make a big dent in the backlog. You can read more about it or join at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Backlog drives/May 2026 ↗.

'''PageTriage'''

An attempt was made to get the New Pages Feed ↗ to sort by date marked as reviewed instead of date created. However we had to revert it due to bugs. We may try again in the future. You can subscribe to the Phabricator ticket ↗ if you're interested in following along.

Ferrari Luce | "Centro Stile Ferrari" > "Ferrari Design Studio"

Howdy Cl3phact0!

Recently, I've edited the "Ferrari Luce" English sitelink, correcting the info about its designer and its location, i.e., changing "Centro Stile Ferrari" to "Ferrari Design Studio". I was wondering what the motivation was behind undoing the edit: was the reference not strong enough to support this change?

On my end, I've noticed that since their latest release (the Ferrari Amalfi Spider), they have changed what they call "Centro Stile Ferrari" to the name mentioned above. However I do realize that an official text about the car hasn't come out yet.

Since this is one of my first contributions, what do you suggest doing?

Thank you for the help, and I hope I haven't taken up too much of your time :) Interactive-wikinfo (talk) 07:45, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

:Best practice on Wikipedia is to discuss important changes to an article on the Talk page ↗ of the article itself. I'll post a reply there shortly. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 08:00, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
