Why hasn't the article Asian relations with Northeast India ↗ been merged in Foreign relations of India ↗

When the outcome of the discussion available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Foreign_relations_of_India#Delete/merge_subversive_POV_coattail_article was to merge the article, why hasn't it been done yet? &#126;2026-21460-02 ↗ (talk) 14:55, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

:It's simply because no one has done it yet. Normally I'd say you're welcome to do it, but the target article is protected so you'd need to create an account and get some experience editing. Either way, someone will presumably get around to it at some point as they go through the list of pending mergers. Question from CyberGator (01:45, 14 April 2026)

Hello BigUglyAlien (great name), on some pages, I see citations on nearly every sentence, but some others with fact-filled information do not. How do you know when you actually cite a source vs. not? --CyberGator (talk) 01:45, 14 April 2026 (UTC)

:{{u|CyberGator}}, the expectation is that you should always cite new information you add, but people don't always do it. This is especially common with older content, written back when this wasn't enforced as strictly. The main exception is the opening paragraphs of an article, which is supposed to summarize the information that's sourced lower in the page. Hello dear Alien mentor, This is Aloha, a friend of Flu WolfeBlue whom I am writing this profile for. Can you please tell me when it is expected that this profile comes online? Also would you please let me know if I need to edit anything? Thanks so much! --Alohabythesea11 (talk) 21:29, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

:Hello, you might want to review the basic guidelines at WP:42 ↗ and the guide to conflict of interest ↗. Anyone you're writing about will need to meet these requirements, which generally means they're already successful and widely-known, not just "up and coming". Be aware that writing an article to promote someone is looked down upon and can even be harmful ↗. Want your advice on the "Kingpin" article

Hey, so after I made Quicksilver into a GA article largely with your assistance, I decided to work on Kingpin next. This was my first attempt making an article without constantly asking others for help lol but I was wondering now if you could look at it.

One note if you do decide to look at it. I'm aware that Other versions and Powers and abilities have some uncited statements; someone decided to "condense" those sections recently and they got rid of some citations with it. ModlordD (talk) 02:53, 18 April 2026 (UTC)

Question from CyberGator (22:58, 20 April 2026)

How do you create a citation for a social media post? Oftentimes, basic information can be found from a direct source on their own social media profiles or posts. Would like to know how you would go about citing basic information about a person from their social media. --CyberGator (talk) 22:58, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

:{{u|CyberGator}}, on the occasions where it's an appropriate source, you can use templates like {{t|Cite tweet}} or {{t|Cite Instagram}}. If none of the existing templates fit your need exactly, you can fall back on {{t|Cite web}} and fill out the fields that are relevant. How do you cite information in court documents? --CyberGator (talk) 03:31, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

:The best approach is to find secondary sources that write about the relevant case and cite those. Question from Arixayo on List of World Heritage in Danger ↗ (16:47, 5 May 2026)

Hi! I am copyediting List of World Heritage in Danger for the Guild of Copy Editors' Drive. Would you mind taking a look at the page and telling me if you think I should create another section with the information from the introduction? I already made a "Criticism" section and some information there. However, I think a section on the process of deciding how a site makes the danger list would be good, like moving the third paragraph into its own section. This is my first Wikipedia article that I'm working on in a major way, and I wanted to get input from a more experienced editor. Thanks! --Arixayo (talk) 16:47, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

:Lists are a little different from other articles. Normally you should make sure everything in the lead is just a summary of the article's body, but in this case it's normal for the lead of a list to provide context on its own rather than being part of individual sections. If you want additional opinions on something about a page, you can make a post on the talk page at Talk:List of World Heritage in Danger ↗, and discussion can take place there. Question from Synotication (14:44, 9 May 2026)

J'ello Thebiguguyalien :D

Synotication here.

I'm a new guy who's decided to start working Wikipedia occasionally, mainly because I wanna help fix grammar errors by aspiring Wikipedians, provide information about my local cultural stuff first-hand, and also kinda prove to the world that some Gen Alphas are NOT DOOMED YET (but ignore that, lol).

So, I've decided to begin creating my User Page.

It's going to take a few days (a few hours if I'm in the zone), though I need some tips and tricks on how to make an article / user page.

How do you use that sidebar thingy with all the info n stuff?
How does the Wikipedia Editor UI work?
What infobox templates are necessary for the user page?
Can I have a dedicated page for occasional userbox meme posting or smth to remind people that I'm not dead yet? (okay, *maybe* don't include that.)
What about me can I put and what about me can I not put?

Seriously, I have a habit of putting humor in my stuff. Sometimes dark humor. Idk.

There's a lot more I'd like to ask, though I don't really wanna burden you with them all. Most of them are pretty stupid, actually. (I'm serious. Why am I asking if I could put a low quality burning microwave image next to the infobox captioned "air conditioning"?)

So if you're here for it, thx!

Sincerely,
- Synotication :D
(Okay, is this thing even a question anymore, or a letter? I dunno.) --Synotication (talk) 14:44, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

:J'ello {{u|Synotication}}! I'm glad you're getting involved. Articles and user pages are two different things, so it's important you know which one you're working on: articles are the actual pages we're writing for Wikipedia (like Earth ↗) while user pages are our individual profiles where we explain who we are and what we like to do on Wikipedia (like mine at User:Thebiguglyalien). You can pretty much do what you like with your user page as long as it's not inappropriate or anything like that. To practice with the editor, there's Wikipedia:Sandbox ↗ where you can make test edits freely without worrying about breaking anything.
:If you're adding information in articles, make sure to only add things you found in reliable sources ↗, not just things you know personally. I'd go slowly with the humor; Wikipedia editors respond to a specific kind of dry humor that you pick up on over time. And since you're Gen Alpha, I encourage you to read Wikipedia:Guidance for younger editors ↗. If you want more general feedback on a question, WP:TEAHOUSE ↗ is where a bunch of editors hang out to answer questions. :{{u|Baba3d}}, to nominate an article for deletion, you can follow the steps at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#Process ↗. Alternatively, you can go to the gadgets tab of your preferences ↗ and activate the Twinkle ↗ option. One of its features is that it lets you do the entire deletion process in a single form on the page. Before you nominate it for deletion, make sure you check to see if this is a subject discussed in reliable sources, especially in books or articles about photography. Once it's been tagged, your job is done and other editors will also check and weigh in on whether there's enough sourcing to keep it or if it should be deleted. Question from Biar Malek Majok Ring (01:15, 24 May 2026)

what mistakes do new Wikipedia editors usually make?
How can i know if a source is reliable? --Biar Malek Majok Ring (talk) 01:15, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

:{{u|Biar Malek Majok Ring}}, the biggest mistakes are probably trying to do too much at once or trying to get involved in some of the more complicated behind-the-scenes stuff that requires some previous knowledge of how things work. But really, you just have to learn as you go. Just help out where you see fit and don't be disheartened if a few of your edits get undone. I suggest starting with Help:Introduction ↗ to get a feel for how to edit. And you can always ask questions at the Teahouse ↗ if you want the input of other editors. COI request

Hi Thebiguglyalien, I have a Conflict of Interest request pending on the Elliott Investment Management talk page ↗. The request was recently closed due to inactivity and I was encouraged to reach out to 'local editors', and I saw you edited the article last August.

My request puts the Investments section into chronological order. Others have raised issues with the current section structure on the Talk page before, and I think chronological order by decade avoids putting any undue weight on various entries compared to others while making it easier to add or amend the list going forward.

I have coded up what this would look like, so if you agree that this makes the article easier to understand you should be able to just copy and paste the source code to replace the section. Happy to discuss more at the talk page ↗ - thanks and hopefully see you there! Tykonikon (talk) 14:34, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

hello, I just want to say hi --CookieNinja6466 (talk) 00:46, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

Hey

The behaviour of the "let the vandals in" camp has only detoriorated (e.g. denying obvious canvassing is canvassing because "it's just a petition", even when the TAs and SPAs start to show up). If I wasn't a relative newb, I'd have filed an ANI report, but I suggest you do it instead because I ain't willing to bog myself down in wikidrama. <span style="color:#F3C">'''Kinopiko'''</span> in solidarity with Esperanza 15:52, 27 May 2026 (UTC)

:I know. I'd advise against that though; ANI is really for open-and-shut cases, otherwise it becomes a shitfest for everyone involved. Besides, just about everyone who would be reading ANI is already aware of the situation, and a good number of them support the disruption. If they decide to shoot Wikipedia in the foot, we'll just have to depend on the more level-headed editors to sort things out while the people who turned against the project are gone. New Editor Removing Maintenance Templates?

Hi,

I've been gradually learning how to edit and enjoy adding citations to existing articles. I recently added a number of sources to the Sleep and creativity ↗. I believe the Anecdotal Accounts section has a sufficient amount of sources after my edits, so I think it's appropriate to remove the maintenance template. Is that something that's generally okay for editors to remove independently, or is it good etiquette to post in the talk page informing other editors of this change? A book I've been reading

I've recently been looking at the 2022 book Revolution and Dictatorship: The Violent Origins of Durable Authoritarianism, which is about why autocracies that took powers revolutions tend to be much more durable compared to those which didn't. Seeing as you work on topics related to authoritarianism, I wanted to ask where you think such content could be added. It's pretty valuable info that could help readers understand why the political systems of countries like Cuba, China and Iran have been so durable compared to regular autocracies. Hi there! Thanks for the offer.
How do I go about Creating a new wiki entry? --Ntaubman (talk) 21:24, 2 June 2026 (UTC)

:{{u|Ntaubman}}, you can create a new article with the article wizard ↗. But keep in mind that there are a lot of standards and expectations around new articles, and it can be hard to get one approved if you don't have practice editing. I suggest going through Help:Introduction ↗ to learn the basics and then maybe getting some practice fixing or adding to existing articles. Also note that if the article you want to create is something you have a personal connection to (e.g. someone you know or work for), this is frowned upon and there are even stricter standards. COI edit request re: WikiProjects

Hello! I wanted to follow-up here about the concern you raised on my talk page about the wording I used in one of my stock {{tlx|EditCOI}} response templates which implied an authority that WikiProjects supposedly possessed over articles. I agree with you that the wording I used was inarticulate. I've since re-worded that response as follows (in bold font):{{tqb| "The COI editor may also wish to broadcast requests for edits at the talk pages of the WikiProjects '''which give advice on this article'''. Those projects are usually listed at the top of an article's talk page."}} I think this re-wording is a huge improvement. Feel free to offer your input on it as well, but if not, then thank you anyways for bringing it to my attention, it was much appreciated! Regards, <span style="font-size:85%;color:#f00;border:2.5px solid red;border-radius:15px;">&nbsp;<b>Spintendo</b>&nbsp;</span> 02:45, 11 June 2026 (UTC)

How long should a wikipedia article usually be? I mean like for a novel or show?
regards, Kimdokjafragment --Kimdokjafragment (talk) 08:17, 14 June 2026 (UTC)

:{{u|Kimdokjafragment}}, however long it takes to cover the topic. There are no size requirements one way or the other. :{{u|MorriganKingma}}, what article are you trying to edit? If it's your edit on List of glaciers of Palmer Land ↗, it was successful in creating the link once you published. Question from ViolentWaves (06:03, 9 July 2026)

Hello esteemed alien mentor! I have an editing dilemma of sorts. I was editing some citations in the Geoff Rickly ↗ article and I noticed it has the use DMY dates template. The issue is that the article immediately contradicts that by using MDY in the first sentence: "Geoffrey William Rickly (born March 8, 1979)...". The article has used MDY since (and before) it's first non-stub iteration ↗, and Mr. Rickly certainly doesn't have any strong ties to a particular English-speaking country that uses DMY format, so according to MOS:DATERET the article should really be using MDY.
Obviously, I know I'm supposed to be bold and all, but I just wanted to ask another editor if I'd be right in switching the template from use DMY dates to use MDY dates?
Thank you so much in advance; I think I might've answered my own question for myself through explaining it all in writing, but I'm kinda scared of messing up here :) --'''<span style="color:#9932CC">Violent</span><span style="color:teal">Waves</span> ↗''' <span style="color:#9932CC">talk</span> ↗ 𓆉 <span style="color:teal">contribs</span> ↗ 06:03, 9 July 2026 (UTC)

:{{u|ViolentWaves}}, yeah, in cases like this you're fine to swap out the template. For good measure, you can leave an edit summary briefly saying it's always used MDY if you like. I looked back through the edit history out of curiosity and it was using the MDY template until April 2026 when an unregistered editor changed it for some reason ↗. And don't worry about messing up; you can't break Wikipedia ↗, after all! '''<span style="color:#0c4709">Thebiguglyalien</span>''' (<span style="color:#472c09">talk</span>) 15:02, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
