Betty Guard ↗

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! It's wonderful to see a new editor in the NZ women/history/arts space. And I see you're one of the Auckland museum summer students, which is an awesome initiative. Yay. :)

I really appreciated your additions to Betty Guard ↗ (and I want to read the book you've cited!). I just wanted to check a couple of them with you that I couldn't quite follow. They're both in the paragraph starting with "This case became a cause célèbre in the contemporary press" under the '''1834 kidnapping''' heading. I've tagged the relevant sentences, and wondered if you could take a look? The first one is that I'm not sure who is meant by "would-be rescuers", and the second one it's the phrase "motivations they would benefit from in future" that I'm not sure about.

Hope that makes sense, and again, welcome! Chocmilk03 (talk) 20:56, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

:Hi! Thank you for your message. I'll take a clarify those things for you :) Avawatson03 (talk) 21:27, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
:I have just made some changes to those two points. The one regarding the "motivations" for the captors isn't clarified within my source in any detail other than claiming there were "rewards" in place, therefore if the point still reads too vague it will be best to remove it from the article. Avawatson03 (talk) 21:39, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
::That makes much more sense, thank you! I think I get it, it makes sense that she would have expected there to be some sort of reward available for her safe return and that she would have used her knowledge of te reo to remind her captors of this. :) Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 22:57, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

The article you created: Mick Pendergrast has been accepted

Congratulations. The article you created: Mick Pendergrast ↗ has been accepted. Good work. You may wish to use the revision history to review the minor matters that I addressed prior to accepting the article. One point that must still be addressed is the need for citations for date of birth and death. These could be provided in the Infobox, but are more commonly provided in the text. Citations for birth and death date are essential for biography articles._Marshelec (talk) 04:02, 7 December 2025 (UTC)

Davina Duke ↗ moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Davina Duke ↗, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable ↗, independent sources ↗. <small>(? ↗)</small> Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability ↗ is of central importance ↗ on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace ↗ (with a prefix of "<code>Draft:</code>" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline ↗ and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. <span style="color:#800000;font-size:11px">TURKEYDICAE🦃</span> 20:33, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

: Kia ora, one additional note from the review. I know in New Zealand English it is pretty common for us to use te reo Māori place names in addition to the English (for example, Aotearoa New Zealand, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, etc), and personally I think that's a good thing for normalising te reo to kiwis. On English Wikipedia, however, we're writing for an international audience. I've had feedback from international readers that they find the double-barreling less clear to read, so I've fallen back to just using the common name and not including the te reo translation, unless there is a particular reason for it.
: Also, all of the articles I've reviewed from you have been excellent. Thanks for your contributions! <span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:monospace;">'''David Palmer'''//</span>cloventt</span> (talk) 21:39, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

: . . . but two points. First, some websites are named after their domain names. But most aren't. For a website that isn't, give its actual name. Thus for example not "|website=eventfinda.co.nz" but instead "|website=Eventfinda". Secondly, I am a woodcarving and New Zealand ignoramus. :Hi there, thank you for the welcome and advice! I am finding it to be an equally tricky and rewarding area of Wikipedia, especially as I've discovered how certain sources are not able to used despite only using neutral information from them (which is of course difficult when wanting to represent underrepresented groups on Wiki). But with every edit I'm enjoying learning and improving! Avawatson03 (talk) 07:34, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

Canterbury bell flowers for you

Hi there! I found your page via Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand's recent post. I'm Kassi and I do quite similar Wiki editing work to you but for Australian female artists. Sending you flowers painted in watercolours by Janie Wilkinson Whyte ↗, whose page I created. --Kassigrace (talk) 01:55, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

:Hi there! Thank you for your kind message! It's always lovely to connect with other Women in Red editors :-) Avawatson03 (talk) 00:12, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

AfC ↗ notification: Draft:Jane Groufsky ↗ has a new comment

<div style="border:solid 1px #9accf6;background:#f1f9ff; padding: 0.5em 1em; color: #000; margin: 1.5em; width: 90%;"> 50px|left ↗
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Jane Groufsky ↗. Thanks! Hoary (talk)WWU ↗&nbsp;👍︎ 01:11, 5 July 2026 (UTC) </div>

:I'm sorry to see that Draft:Jane Groufsky ↗ has been deleted, shortly after I made comments that perhaps were overly harsh. You were fully entitled to make the deletion request, which was granted. End of story, perhaps. But half an hour spent copyediting the draft, sleeping on the result, and then another ten minutes spent looking through it again would very likely have improved it a lot. If you have second thoughts about the fate of the draft, let me know: I'd be able to resuscitate it for you. -- Hoary (talk)WWU ↗&nbsp;👍︎ 22:19, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
::Hi there, your comments were very helpful! I only decided to have it deleted as the draft has been rejected a couple of times now for insufficient sources and I haven't found any other sources to add to the article. Thank you for your help regardless! Avawatson03 (talk) 01:27, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
:::Well . . . don't let it get you down, and better luck next time! -- Hoary (talk)<sup>WWU ↗&nbsp;👍︎</sup> 04:08, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
