Cue sports redlink lists
Hi Benny,
Not sure if you watchlist the cue sports talk page, but I thought you might find the links I placed there helpful. It's at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cue sports/Archive 1#Missing players lists ↗. There's a load of players and links to foreign language articles for individual players. Might be worth a peruse. Best Wishes, '''<span style="color:green">Lee Vilenski</span> (talk • contribs ↗)''' 12:40, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
:Thanks {{u|Lee Vilenski}}, and belated congratulations on your marriage! I'll check that list out. My next targets are improving the world billiards championship article, articles for all world billiards champions, and improving Ng On-yee ↗. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 08:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
::That english billiards, or carrom? I would recommend WP:CXT ↗, as there are lots of information on the german wikipedia (that's where I got most of the pool BLPs from. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karambolage_(Billard) ↗ might be a good place to start), and some for carrom on fr.wiki. (such as at https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Championnat_de_France_de_billard_carambole_cadre_47/1 ↗.) Now the wikicup ↗ is over, I can put some more work into the background (like templates, and new articles). Women's snooker
Hi, I'm hoping you can clear up some confusion for me. I was planning to add achievement boxes similar to Reanne Evans#Achievements ↗ for some of the female snooker players. Mandy Fisher#Career Highlights ↗ show she won the 1980 Pontins Women's Champion and Sue Foster ↗ as being the 1983 Women's World Snooker Championship ↗ - sponsored by Pontins. However, the Template:World Women's Snooker Championship ↗ and Template:World Women's Snooker champions ↗ show Sue Foster as the 1983 winner but 1980's winner as Lesley McIlrath ↗ as also shown on 1980 Women's World Open (snooker) ↗ at Warners Sinah Warren Holiday Camp, Hayling Island, sponsored by Guinness. So what was the "Pontins Women's Champion" competition that Fisher won in 1980? --The Vintage Feminist (talk) 02:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
:Hi, {{u|The Vintage Feminist}}. The Pontins championships for women ran alongside some of the Pontins Open ↗ events and were not world championships. I don't think we have those women's tournaments on Wikipedia at the moment - I'll see if I've got the sources to add them in. You may find this ↗ a useful resource for some past results going back to 1983 - e.g. see Mandy Fisher ↗. Let me know if there's anything I can help with. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

::So Sue Foster won the Pontins 1983 Women's World Snooker Championship ↗ beating Maureen Baynton ↗ 8-5 in the final and also won Pontins 1983 championship for women beating Grace Nakamura 3–1 which was ''not'' a world championship. WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- 20px|Zulu (International Code of Signals) ↗ BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
- {{flagicon|Kingdom of Scotland|old}} Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
- 22px ↗ Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗ (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Thank you today for the article, on top of all the quality improvement around, "about the year that Cliff Thorburn ground his way to the world title. Coverage of the final was interrupted by the broadcast of live footage of the Iranian Embassy Siege, which caused numerous viewers to complain to the BBC."! - My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one a reviewed for DYK ↗, liking all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". As I just returned from a weekend of weddings, I also like the spirit ;) - besides having listened to The Firebird ↗ with one of the bridegrooms in the orchestra. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:01, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Thomas Bradlaugh Leng
Not sure i can be of much use but ... I found the following https://www.newspapers.com/article/tunbridge-wells-courier/137028663 ↗ which I hope you can read. Relates to the suicide of a Thomas Bradlaugh Leng from an aspirin overdose in 1965. The trouble is that it's not clear that it's the same person. Age 57 fits roughly, but "retired caterer" less so. Probate records have "LENG Thomas Bradlaugh otherwise KEEN Thomas, of 46 Burleigh Mansions Charing Cross Road London W.C.2 died 16 May 1965 at Pembury Hospital Kent Probate London 12 October (1965) to National Provincial Bank Limited. £66884" Obviously £66,000 was a lot of money in 1965. His birth is registered in March 1908 as Thomas Bradlaugh KEEN in West Ham. The trouble is that that's all I have. Still not clear whether it's the same man. Nigej (talk) 14:31, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
:Many thanks, {{u|Nigej}}. Having spent a while looking through records at Ancestry, I'm pretty much convinced this is the same person, but I feel need one more link in the chain before I put it into an article. Much appreciated! Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 00:28, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
::All very frustrating. Did some more family history stuff myself. Probably he married Ivy Gladys Slyth in Westminster in 1943. Probably no children (per Freebmd). Her birth was registered in March 1911 and she died on 29 December 2014 (probate records). Confusingly she was known as Joy (see https://funeral-notices.co.uk/notice/leng/4208681). I was hoping to find some obituary at her death, but have failed miserably. Nigej (talk) 09:31, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Thank you today for the article, introduced: "Lasting for over 11 minutes, Bob Dylan’s song "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" occupied an entire side of his 1966 double album Blonde on Blonde. No topic for the next three days, - never even think about moving an article while linked from the Main page. - Sad eyes - I mourn the death of Vami IV, and this image - given to him with thanks for GA Gates of Heaven Synagogue ↗ two days before he died - was taken on a cemetery returning from a funeral last year. It pictures a promise, - let's work on the articles he left under construction. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:33, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
... and thank you today for John Spencer (snooker player) - below - introduced: "This article is about three-time world snooker champion John Spencer. Spencer was noted for his cue action, which featured an unusually long backswing that provided immense cue power, allowing him to develop long-distance shots with deep screw and maximum side spin. According to Clive Everton in Billiards and Snooker magazine, Spencer's play in the 1969 World Snooker Championship final "justifiably caused gasps of amazement" from the audience."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:31, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

The article could really do with a lot of improvement. At least there are plenty of sources. Feel free to ping me when you take it to peer review. ::I've kind of doubled the size of the article since my last note. I attempted to find the artwork for the '45 release, either for Dylan or for one of the many cover releases listed in the Wikipedia article, which came close though I'm still on it. Possibly you can see if the article is going in an improved direction towards peer review or GAN at some point. ErnestKrause (talk) 15:39, 10 February 2025 (UTC)

Help
Hi there, Benny. How are you? I hope you are doing great. I have assembled a list of snooker-related articles that show some potential with regards to future GA nominations or FA candidacies. There are some I wrote, which would obviously need some reviewing and copyediting, given that English is not my native language. All in all, your help would be very much welcome, should you be interested. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 07:40, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi {{u|Alavense}}, I'm good, hope you are too. I had a quick look at 2021 World Seniors Championship ↗ - there are a few small issues I think, but I'd be happy to review it if you nominate it. I'm probably one of the few people with access to the ''Snooker Scene'' source. For the 2007, 2009 and 2010 world championships, I really dislike that style of table for the final, which repeats the scores. (Probably not enough to fail a GA though.) I'd be happy to take on those, or the other World Seniors ones, for GA reviews as long as you've checked that the citations support the text - it's a common issue in snooker articles that uncited commentary or context gets added, and it's a pet peeve of mine. Keep up the great work! Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 09:41, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
:::Yes {{u|Alavense}}, I think the 2025 style table is OK. If you take the article to FAC there might be a question about accessibility, but there might not. (See the comments at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/1981_World_Snooker_Championship/archive1 ↗ about "The table with the tournament final statistics doesn't satisfy all criteria of MOS:DTAB and MOS:ACCESS at the moment"). Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:32, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
::::Thanks again! I will try to improve those tables. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 15:38, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
::::Hi again. I just wanted to let you know that I've been working on 2007 and I've improved the format for the main draw, the final table and every table in the qualifying sections. I think it looks much better now. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 08:19, 29 August 2025 (UTC)

A penny for your thoughts
Hi, Anonymous accounts with similar editing behaviour keep edit warring on snooker articles, especially over 900 and Q events - see Stephen Hendry ↗ and Stuart Bingham ↗. Now they're back on Jimmy White ↗, wiki bans seem to be ineffective and a GA backlog drive starts sunday.........Not sure how to keep the page stable? <span style="background-color: white"><span style="color: green">Canary757</span> <span style="color: darkgreen">(talk)</span></span> 17:09, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

146 breaks
{{ping|BennyOnTheLoose}} I have added a List of 146 breaks ↗ to the "Maximum break" article. There are four entries for which I can't find citations:
# Stephen Hendry ↗ v Ronnie O'Sullivan ↗ on 22 January 1995 at the 1995 European League ↗.

:::146 by Joe Davis in 1950 ↗ (world record); and one in 1954 ↗. Mike Watterson won the 1977 National Breaks competition with a 146; I think this was only for amateurs and it's unlikely that the table was assessed for compliance with standards. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:52, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
::::The "16 reds" one by Alex Higgins doesn't count because the table is only for if one pink is potted instead of a black. I don't know about Joe Davis's 146. ::::::{{ping|BennyOnTheLoose}} I've thought about this and don't think the two by Joe Davis should be added to the table, since both this table and the main table are limited to the "modern era ↗" (from 1969). 1998 World Snooker Championship qualifiers
Hi there, Benny. I want to improve the format for the Qualifying rounds of the 1998 World Championship. However, I found some discrepancies. There are two different round 11s. Besides, some other things don't make sense: Andy Neck is whitewashed in round 10, but then plays round 11, wins and disappears? WikiCup 2026 May newsletter
The second round of the 2026 WikiCup ended on 28 April. As a reminder for contestants who just joined or are unaware of recent changes to our round-points system, good article nomination reviews ↗ now receive 10 points, an increase from 5 points in the previous year, as per a consensus at WT:CUP ↗. Peer reviews ↗, which continue to be worth 5 points, are now listed in the same section as featured article candidate reviews ↗, rather than with good article reviews. Everyone who competed in round 2 will advance to round 3 unless they have withdrawn or been banned. No other changes to the round-point system have been made for this year.
Round 2 was competitive. Three contestants scored more than 1,000 round points; nine scored over 500; and fourteen scored over 300. The top seven contestants had at least one featured article ↗ (two of them with two apiece). The following competitors scored more than 800 round points:
- {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant17|MCE89}} with 1,333 points, mainly from good and featured articles about Australian people and geography
- {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant17|Generalissima}} with 1,169 points, mainly from good and featured articles related to shipping ethics controversy in fanfiction ↗, waterways, and Gu Yanwu ↗
- {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant17|Bgsu98}} with 1,149 points, mainly from good articles, featured articles, and featured lists about figure skating, along with many article reviews and two good topics
- {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant17|Olliefant}} with 830 points, mainly from good and featured articles about television shows, episodes and media, along with nearly four dozen good and featured article reviews
- {{Wikipedia:WikiCup/Participant17|Gommeh}} with 827 points, mainly from good and featured articles related to ''Genshin Impact ↗'' and ''Honkai: Star Rail''
The full scores for round 2 can be seen here ↗. During this round, contestants have claimed 12 featured articles, 13 featured lists, 2 featured-topic articles, 106 good articles, 22 good-topic articles and more than 40 Did You Know articles. In addition, competitors have worked on 3 In the News ↗ articles, and they have conducted over 200 reviews. The tournament points table ↗ has been updated.
Remember that any content promoted after 28 April but before the start of Round 3 can be claimed in Round 3. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed ↗. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup ↗, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Help
Hi there, Benny. Hope you are doing well and enjoying the Worlds. I need your help. Does "Rod Lawler wins second title". Snooker Scene. May 1996. p. 30 verify that the 1996 China Masters ↗ was the third time the China Masters was held? Thanks in advance, Alavense (talk) 08:36, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
:Hi, {{u|Alavense}}. No, it doesn't. Chris Turner's page is usually the best place for tournament history, but that says "The first major international tournament in China was the Catch China International in September 1997". That 1996 event, which was on the "WPBSA Tour" seems to be quite different to the 1985 and 1986 ones. I'm not sure if it was really an invitational; I ''think'' there were qualifying rounds. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 09:39, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

1993
Hi there, Benny. Hope you are doing well. I added brackets and some links to the Qualifying section ↗ of the 1993 WC. There's something wrong with Robert Foxall in the ''Almanac''. He is shown as the player defeated 1-5 by Ken Owers, but that seems to be a mistake, given that he defeated Steve Russell, Paul Gibson, and Surinder Gill before being beaten by David Finbow. I guess the player defeated by Owers was someone else, but I had a look at other sources (CueTracker, for instance) and that didn't help. Maybe you can fix the issue with further sources. Thanks in advance, Alavense (talk) 08:50, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
:Fantastic, {{u|Alavense}}! Sefton Payne played Iain Trimble in the second round not the first; and Chris Capel in the third round, not the second, and so on. I think Downer may have mistakenly put the Foxall v Owers UK Championship result in round 7; it is the row above Foxall's 1993 WC results in the ''CueSport'' book. You can let him know! Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:35, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
::Thank you very much. Have I got it right this time? Please check when you can. Thanks! Alavense (talk) 14:05, 19 May 2026 (UTC)

1999 World Snooker Championship ↗
Hi there, Benny. How are you doing? I added to the 1999 World Snooker Championship ↗ a while ago and then HurricaneHiggins helped me with the copyediting. The article is still missing a summary of the qualifying rounds. I was thinking that maybe you could help with that. I know you are busy with 1993 and other articles, but maybe you are interested in taking on it once you get a bit of time. You will let me know. Thanks in advance, Alavense (talk) 08:02, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:Sure, I'll add something {{u|Alavense}}. In return, if you don't mind, please have a look at some of the newspaper sources I've used for 1993 and see if there is anything interesting to add from the second round onwards there. I'm nearly done on that year, just need to go through the qualifying sources again and tidy that section up. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:33, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
::Great! I will have a look at it tomorrow. Thank you very much in advance, Alavense (talk) 10:42, 25 May 2026 (UTC)

:::Hi there, Benny. Hope you are doing well. I haven't forgotten about this, but I haven't got the access to Newspapers.com renewed yet, so I can't help with that at the moment. I will get to it as soon as I can, though. Have a nice week, Alavense (talk) 10:46, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
::::Hi {{u|Alavense}}, no worries, thanks for the message. Let me know if there are more years I can help with qualifying details for. All the best, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 14:13, 10 June 2026 (UTC)
:::::Hi again! ''The Independent'' has a bit ↗ on the semi-finals, should you wish to add to the White-Wattana one. Something ↗ about the second-round McManus v Davis match, with that 144 break. And here ↗ about White losing being already a "familiar scene". Let me know if there's any round in particular you want me to help with. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 14:20, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
:Hi {{u|Alavense}}! Anything from second round up to the final that you think is worth adding; or from the first round if I missed anything significant. There is probably already ''adequate'' detail for a GA nomination, but I tend to err on the side of keeping things brief. Thanks, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 14:58, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
::More there. Alavense (talk) 15:48, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

Promoting article
Hi @BennyOnTheLoose, I'm trying to promote the 1987 Australian Masters ↗ article using the GAN Review Tool, but it's requiring me to choose a Topic, Sub-topic, and Sub-subtopic. I've never done this before and don't want to screw it up. Could you please advise what to put in this field? All the high-level categories are greyed out. Thanks! HurricaneHiggins (talk) 15:42, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- {{u|HurricaneHiggins}}, If you scroll about 80% of the way through the list you should find "Cue sports events and concepts" - just select that. (You only need to select one thing; in this case it knows that it is under Cue Sports, which is under Sports and Recreation.) Thank you! Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:51, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- :Thank you, @BennyOnTheLoose! I just did that. Hopefully it all goes through okay now. HurricaneHiggins (talk) 15:55, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

List of Coldplay live performances
Hello! I made some adjustments to the list and would like you to comment on it so we can move forward with the nomination. I pinged you there but I'm not sure you saw it, so I'm giving it a second try here. Best regards. '''''<span style="color:#8B008B">GustavoCza</span>''''' (<span style="color:#8B008B">talk</span> • <span style="color:#8B008B">contribs</span> ↗) 14:09, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
:I see that the nomination has been archived now, {{u|GustavoCza}}. I'm not sure that the citations I saw really help as they still don't verify which songs were played; if they were links to recordings of the performance then that would work, but I just had a look at the BBC website as an example and there is hardly anything from Coldplay available at the moment. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:01, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
