Thoughts about my Continental Classic bracket design concept

Hi! I tried creating a new design for the Continental Classic bracket a few months ago. You validly rejected them. I decided to have another go at it. I have made the colors more subtle. I, unfortunately, have not figured out how to incorporate the names of the winners of each match into the design but I think it's an improvement over my old design. Please check it out and give me your thoughts.

Wikipedia:Destubathon of the Americas ↗

You are invited to participate in the '''Destubathon of the Americas ↗''', a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to £2000 ($2680) in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ <span style="font-variant:small-caps;color:#aba67e">''Dr. Blofeld''</span> 17:32, 15 April 2026 (UTC)

About your recent RM close

You recently closed Talk:Persecution of transgender people under the second Trump administration#Requested move 1 May 2026 ↗ with consensus against moving. While I agree that the close reflected the outcome of the discussion, I request that you amend your close to state that many participants opposed the move on grounds of article scope instead of or in addition to grounds of neutrality. In other words, please edit your close to mention that some participants opposed a move because it would create problems with the scope of the article. SuperPianoMan9167 (talk) 20:01, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
: I would also like to understand how you came to the conclusion that there was consensus for a 12 month moratorium on move requests when that was not even a question asked in the discussion. I'd ask you to strike that, or else this will definitely need to go to close review. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 20:51, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
::{{re|SuperPianoMan9167}} happy to do so; whilst either concern is enough to form the basis for the consensus, it was the false balance one that was a little stronger. {{re|Sirfurboy}} I feel as if there's definitely a consensus for both. Moratoria may be added on to a closure if there is enough of an appetite for one, and determining consensus on imposing one is separate to determining consensus on the wider question. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 00:15, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
:::In your close, you say, {{tq|I'm sad to see the motte-and-bailey tactics outwith Wikipedia show up here too}}. Are you aware, however, that the issue of the term "persecution" in this context was tested at RfC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Donald_Trump/Archive_212#RfC:_Transgender_persecution? ↗ and the RfC has just been endorsed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard#RfC_closure_review_request_at_Talk:Donald_Trump ↗? Core to those RfC findings were that sources do not describe the (very clearly anti-trans rhetoric and actions) as a persecution. That was the RfC finding. In this move request, ''no new sources'' were brought to the table, and only one source was discussed that even uses the word. But, as SuperPianoMan9167 points out, there was a good reason for rejecting this move request on grounds of changing the article ''scope'', and many people explicitly stated that ''this'' was their reason for rejecting the move request. This is the weaker claim (the move to a specific title is weaker than a view that the word ''persecution'' ought not to be in the title), and now it will be used to attack the stronger claim. That is the classic motte-and-bailey, and cementing this in with a 12 month moratorium that was at the longest end, only asked for by a few of the one third of respondents who mentioned a moratorium, is clearly ''not'' a consensus on such a draconian measure. Indeed it looks like a supervote. If a moratorium is required (and here, it would be explicitly unhelpful, and disruption has not been demonstrated) then it should be decided by an RfC on that matter, not by suggestions by a minority of the participants. Again, requesting you revise that. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:22, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
::::I'd value your thoughts on this please. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:51, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::Thanks for pointing me to the RfC closure, I was genuinely not aware of it. Looking at the RfC and the close review, the closer of the RfC deliberately made no determination on whether it should apply to this article title (about actions taken by the Trump ''administration''), but that there were suitable concerns about the appropriateness of the word in an article about Trump ''himself''. In any case, in a closure, I can only follow roads suitably signposted by the RM. Bringing up the RfC post-close feels like a Hail Mary appeal to me. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 17:11, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::Indeed, but in the light of that context - a context you were unaware of - perhaps you can now see that your close comments, and particularly the moratorium, create a motte-and-bailey attack on this high WP:CONLEVEL ↗ consensus, and, absent any demonstration of disruption, and absent any sourcing for the wording that is being frozen in, it would not, after all, be appropriate to freeze the discussion at this point, and that the process here clearly has further to travel? Thanks. Sirfurboy🏄 18:17, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::I don't strictly see how the RfC on Trump means that there's a consensus for further discussion on the actions of his administration. The consensuses aren't in conflict -- it is possible to describe an administration/the wider executive as persecutory but not the head of the administration themselves (q.v. the UK on this very issue, in fact). All I saw at the RM was people who wanted a bit of a break from discussing the title again and again. I'm opening to lowering it to six months, but I still believe there's a consensus for a moratorium. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 02:24, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::::It's possible to describe an administration but not the head of it this way, yes. But sources don't. That's the point. As for consensus to do something that was not even the subject of the move discussion - again, a minority of the respondents requested that. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 06:28, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::I don't think it's honestly a winning argument to say the sources don't support the idea of the Trump administration's actions as persecutory, when we've got human rights organisations using much stronger language. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 17:31, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
::::::::::But not ''that'' language. That's the point. I have no objection to using the language the sources are using. The assumption I want to ''soften'' the language is misplaced. The objection is that we are ''not'' doing that, and that sources don't use ''this'' language. It is Wikipedian editorialisation. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 18:26, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::It really isn't, unless you can think of a proto-genocide (as the Lemkin Institute are warning about, for example) that ''isn't'' persecutory. Sometimes, WP:SPADE ↗ just applies. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 18:50, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::: The Lemkin institute are an advocacy organisation but if WP:BESTSOURCES ↗ use the term ''genocide'' then so should we. However, they don't. `Butler calls it "rights-stripping, eliminationist politics and forcible dispossession".https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v47/n06/judith-butler/this-is-wrong ↗. This paper says "administrative and legal frameworks are being weaponized against gender diversity."https://academic.oup.com/ccc/advance-article/doi/10.1093/ccc/tcaf054/8418140?login=false&guestAccessKey= ↗ It is not hard to find BESTSOURCES that call out the politicised anti-trans agenda, and I am sure there are sources that would use "transphobia" instead of anti-trans in desrcibing that, but a lot of them major on the rollback of ''rights'' and the damage being done. Indeed there's a whole book on that: Mezey, S. (2026) ''Transgender Rights in Flux.'' Bloomsbury. This source https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00909882.2025.2573946#abstract ↗ talks about a deliberate strategy of anti-trans misinformation. There is a lot to say here, but actually we are not saying it, because instead ''we'' (not the sources) want to talk about "persecution". Again, this moratorium that only had minority support prevents the discussion. This is not a battle ground issue - it is a matter about writing articles that follow the sources and not framing the public agenda on Wikipedia. Again, I don't ask that you change the move close - just rescind the moratorium - or else pare it back to a month (because actually, no good will come from a move discussion in less than a month. There is a fuller discussion to be had before someone else jumps in with a new and potentially half-baked RM). Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 19:17, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::::All you're saying to me is that "persecution" is perhaps ''too'' light of a term. But still, going back to the point: the question of an imposing a moratorium is different to the question of the move result. Plenty of people wanted to impose a moratorium, and there was little-to-no pushback on the issue. I also don't anticipate consensus on the page title changing any time soon. Both those points leans towards the imposition of a moratorium of meaningful length being correct, per WP:MORATORIUM ↗. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 19:23, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::::: Disappointed by this response. I'll take it to Close Review. Could you tell me whether this should be a normal move review (which is unusual in that I would think we would endorse the "not moved" and only discuss the moratorium) or whether this shouled be at WP:AN please? Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 19:27, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::::::::I'm happy to cut the moratorium to six months, but given how long contentious RMs take, any shorter wouldn't be meaningful. '''Sceptre''' (talk) 20:15, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
:::Hi Sceptre, thanks for your close. I agree with Sirfurboy here. By my count, there were ~40 users who commented at that RFC; 12 users who supported some form of moratorium; and multiple of those 12 either supported a shorter duration (6 months) or just mentioned "a moratorium". I don't see how that adds up to consensus for 12 months. Astaire (talk) 16:50, 22 May 2026 (UTC)

<big>'''Don't be lasagna (because there's a new newsletter to read)'''</big>

: Hello, and welcome to our first 2026 issue of ''The Space-Time Telegraph''. Inside you'll find plenty of information about recent happenings in our little ''Who'' corner of Wikipedia. We've also included a plethora of ''Doctor Who'' news you may have missed elsewhere in the last few months such as the finding of previously missing episodes, upcoming and recent product releases, a new streaming home for ''Who'' across the pond (and even a potential future partnership for new episodes). So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and jump on in!

<big>'''Into the Vortex! (Of Good and Featured Content)'''</big>
:Since our newsletter last December, the ''Doctor Who'' WikiProject has seen a large amount of quality article improvement. So far, 16 Good Articles have been improved this year! We're at about the same pace we were last year, which is always good to see, especially given the twelve other articles nominated for GA status at present. Special shoutouts to users {{noping|Rhain}} for their improvements on First Doctor ↗ serials, {{noping|SkywalkerEccleston}} for their various improvements across a wide variety of articles, {{noping|Lbal}} for their work on Full Circle (''Doctor Who'') ↗, and {{noping|Doomitron}} for their work on Sixth Doctor ↗.

:Additionally, since then, Ice Warrior ↗ has been improved to Featured Article status, List of ''Doctor Who'' creatures and aliens ↗ and List of ''Doctor Who'' characters ↗ have been improved to Featured List status, and three Good Topics focused on articles relating to the Midnight Entity ↗, the Slitheen ↗, and ''Doctor Who'' series 15 ↗ have been nominated and approved.

:Congratulations to all of the users who have improved quality ''Doctor Who'' articles in the past few months!

<big>'''A flabbergasting discovery'''</big>
:In March, it was announced that episodes 1 ("The Nightmare Begins") and 3 ("Devil's Planet") of ''The Daleks' Master Plan ↗'' were found by the charity Film is Fabulous! in a private collection among some films. The collector gave them permission to have them and sadly passed away not long after. Upon learning of the discovery through Toby Hadoke ↗, actor Peter Purves ↗, who starred in the episodes alongside William Hartnell ↗ and Adrienne Hill ↗, said "My flabber has never been so gasted". The episodes were shown at a BFI ↗ screening (with Purves in attendance) in April and are now available on BBC iPlayer ↗ in the UK and the official Doctor Who Classic YouTube ↗ channel in the US. This means that episodes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 of ''The Daleks' Master Plan'' are now available.

:It has been hinted that more could be found in the near future as 95 episodes remain missing.

<big>'''Intelligence Bulletin from the Subwave Network'''</big>

<big>'''Succession'''</big>
:The oldest-living person associated with the Whoniverse since Arnold Yarrow ↗'s death in December 2024, Laurie Webb ↗, sadly passed away on 29 March aged 101 years, 327 days. He remains the fifth longest-lived person associated with the Whoniverse and the tenth to become a centenarian. The title of oldest-living person associated with the Whoniverse is now held by 97-year-old Peter Cellier ↗ (''Time-Flight ↗'').

Recent article-move decision

Greetings, Sceptre. In presenting yourself here in Wikipedia, you have written, inter alia: "My editing tends to fall into one of two areas, and I'm particularly interested in expanding Wikipedia's poor coverage of transgender issues and helping to reduce the amount of cisgender, heterosexual and male systemic bias on the encyclopedia." I did not fail to notice the sentence immediately following this ("However, I do understand the importance of not letting my queer politics getting in the way and compromising the neutrality of our queer coverage") but, in all honesty, I cannot see how you took it upon yourself to close down the discussion in this Request to Move ↗ the article previously named "Critical-gender feminism" -- in a non-admin closure, moreover. I have two strong objections: One that the self-evident importance and controversial nature of the titling practically demands closure by an administrator (I'd personally prefer three admins, acting in tandem, so as to have a robust precedent), and not a '''non-admin''' contributor by any stretch of goodwill. And, two, that the justification objectively reads as a straight-up adoption of the arguments for moving the article. I do not intend to go into details on the latter. I can only ask you to reconsider. And possibly to revert the move. Respectfully, The Gnome (talk) 13:06, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
